They came out the first time and diagnosed it and thought that a part needed to be replaced. Then, about a month later, it stopped working again. So, they came back out with no additional charge for the service fee. They found that there were leaks throughout the coil. So, they replaced the coil at their cost of the part and not additional service. All in all, I think the cost added up to around $1,800 for parts and service. They could have been a little better. They did not manage my expectations very well throughout the whole process. So, there were several times I had to call them back to see what the status was. They could have better communication. I have really appreciated their service. When they were here, they provided good quality service, but it is just more of matching my expectations a little better would have been good and having realistic days on when the equipment would be available.
Description of Work: They helped fix the issue that I have had with my air conditioning. They actually ended up replacing the coil.

The furnace and coil were replaced 5 years ago. Since then, the system never worked properly. It would not dehumidify properly and each year needed to be recharged with freon, sometimes multiple times per year. Service calls identified improper installation of drains but they never did get it working properly. They were going to charge full labor cost to replace the coil and compressor under warranty. I finally switched to another company. After they saw how the leaking freon continued to be an issue, we bought a complete new system. They solved our problems. We won't be using Neal Harris in the future.

Neil Harris Service Experts came out to my elderly parents home in KC North to give a quote to replace a 15 year old AC unit and furnace on 7-6-16. I made it clear to the dispatcher ahead of time that because of my parents age and that I live on the East Coast, I would be working in tandem over the phone to help with the decision. I also made it clear that the reason that I called Neil Harris specifically was because of their positive reviews on Angie's List and that I was hopeful that they would be sensitive to their situation and that it would be a positive experience. John Hamilton was the technician who came out to my home and who I worked with directly over the phone. Within the first 30 seconds of our conversation he was already attempting to sell my father on a very expensive zoned A/C upgrade which would have required a complete duct system rework in addition to purchasing an additional unit. I quickly informed John that we weren't interested in pursuing that method. Once we received his quotes I was disappointed to see that the total price was not included, only a monthly amount that we would pay at 7.99% financing over 60 months. A quick calculation on the middle of the road quote would have come out to be a little more than $20,500; a number that was 250% higher than competitive bids for comparable systems by reputable . When I kindly asked for a revised bid with clear flat pricing I received bids that were $15 and $16k, still 2x the amount of any competitive bids... I am very disappointed with the service that we received from Neil Harris and want to let everyone know about what I perceive to be deceptive business practices of this technician. I feel that their technician attempted to take advantage of an elderly couple who could been perceived to be an easy target. I am not able to tell you if this is an isolated incident or if it is indicative to the company culture, but I can tell you that this is a factual account of my experience. I was able to get in touch with the General Manager easily and in a timely manner to provide a formal complaint. He expressed his concern and that he would look into things. Please proceed with extreme caution.

We had a new AC unit installed to replace one that was over 25 years old. It is working great so far. The service was fast from the initial contact to installation. (under a week). Price was comparable to other estimates. Dalton #236673 and Cory were friendly and went over everything with me at the end of the installation.

Technicians James and Kyle showed up about 10 minutes early - already off to a good start. The gave me their best estimate of completion time and they met it. After accompanying me outside to inspect the new compressor, James took me to the basement to see the new equipment. He reviewed the "winter-summer" settings on the ductwork and suggested an even better combination of settings for comfort in both summer and winter. The 2 work areas were thoroughly clean up before leaving. He checked floor vents to insure that the rooms were receiving the cool air. I paid the bill and they both departed. Both were very pleasant and professional. Equally worth mentioning was their repair person and service consultant. The repair person arrived on a Sunday to determine why our A/C was no longer cooling. After her diagnosis and discussion, she told me that no part stores were open that late on Sunday and parts availability would have to be determined the next morning, Monday. I didn't want to 'fix' the problem on a 12-year old system that was already towards the end of its useful life so I asked about a new one. Since she wasn't armed with that information, she called (at my request) a service consultant to see if he was available to come out that same night. He arrived at the appointed time and explained our options. The bad news was that there would be a 7-day wait because so many other people were doing the same thing as me. The prospect of a full week of 85-degrees indoors was not relished. He suggested a "temporary" solution to that problem: purchase a mobile a/c unit to cool our family room until they could get to me with my newly installed unit. To make it financially more palatable, he said he would credit the cost of the mobile a/c unit in the price of the new unit that was to be installed! The deal was that I would then give him the mobile a/c unit once my new unit was installed. This would allow him to offer a "loaner" to another family who would find themselves having to wait some time for their new unit to be installed. This is what we ended up doing. Thanks to him we had a reasonably comfortable room in the house, even though the rest of the house got up to 88-degrees at certain times. Sleeping in our family room was better than sweating in our bedroom. Lastly, we will receive in the mail reimbursement for the original service call made by their repairman. It's 3 hours since switching on the new a/c unit and things are ever so much more pleasant. It will take several more hours for the unit to pull all of the humidity out of the house but you can already feel a major difference. We look forward to sleeping in our bedroom tonight!

It went well. The workmen (JT Kanak, # 411 and James Savage, # 413) were professional and took care to explain things. They and rest of the crew cleaned up well before leaving. The air-con is putting very welcome cool air today.

Technician tried to scam Neal Harris and myself.
Description of Work: Nothing. Without looking at the outside AC unit, Neal Harris Technician attempted to make me pay for a replacement when all that needed to be done was re-attach the fan to the outside AC unit. I am a landlord in a low income neighborhood. Technician informed my tenant that he would work on the side to save me money. Not only was he scaming Neal Harris, but trying to scam me as well. If Neal Harris vetted their technician's correctly then they would not get a bad review. I really felt that racism was involved because both the tenant and the technician was the same race. Neal Harris will never get my business.

My original appointment was scheduled for June 18th, but the office called to inform me that the technician was going to be late. I was understanding, but i wasn't going to be available outside of the original window. I asked that they reschedule me for the following day in a 12-2PM time slot (Confirmation # 12-235610). The following day (June 19th) I waited until 3PM, one hour past the end of the scheduled window. I called Neal Harris and requested an update as to why the technician had neither called or shown up. Nicole responded that the technician was in the area and would come to my house after he finished his current job. I asked Nicole for any sort of ETA, and she told me she could not give me one. I have two very big issues with this company. First, based on my experience, they have no regard for the time windows they assign to their customers. They need to provide customers a courtesy call if the technician isn't going to make the scheduled window. The air conditioning is not working in my house and we are stuck waiting in it this entire time instead of at a hotel cooling off. The second issue i have is that Nicole was very short and disrespective to me on our phone call. She could have called the technician to request some sort of ETA, but she simply said he would arrive after he finished his current job. The company should have called to let me know the technician was running late so that i could have scheduled someone else to come out and look at my air conditioner. This company obviously cares very little for it's customers and cares more about the quick fix jobs. Customer service is a requirement for me and I will not be using this company in the future.

Had problem with furnace not consistently turning on; circuit board found to be faulty. Technician ordered part, showed us how to reset if needed until part found. Company did have a problem getting part, but responded quickly when reminded and found one locally. Same technician returned to install and perform semi-annual maintenance that was due. The technician Dalton was very professional, knowledgeable and pleasant.
Description of Work: Performed semi-annual maintenance check of furnace/heat pump. Replaced faulty circuit board controlling inducer.

They were very responsive from the phone call to being able to come out within just a couple hours after a 6am phone call. The tech that arrived was punctual, courteous and knowledgeable. He was not able to fix our issue but not only made recommendations for someone who could he did not charge us for work that he did because it didn't fix the problem. I have dealt with many service providers who will charge you even if they don't fix the issue and it was so refreshing to have someone treat us like fellow humans instead of walking credit cards. Thank you so much and you are definitely on my preferred provider list to use myself and recommend to other homeowners.

We met with John Cooney, who explained all of the options available. A week later the crew arrived and in one day tore out the old equipment and installed the new. There were no problems and the crew did an excellent job. We have tested the AC, water heater and heater and they all seem to work perfectly. This is a large professional outfit that has been around a lond time and knows how to keep customers.

Overall they provided the high level of workmanship that I expected. The sales rep John Cooney can work on being a little more punctual. Their main installer Jason T, #351, needs to polish his mentoring skills with his crew. The furnace is the same 98% unit I had installed two years ago at a prior residence. We love the variable speed fan and the thermostat. I upgraded on the air conditioner to a SEER 25. They had installed a SEER 21 two years ago at the previous residence and I am looking forward to seeing my utility bill with an even higher efficient unit. The hot water unit is the same as the one I installed two years ago and it worked great. We like the addition of the recirculation pump to give us "instant" hot water at our shower.
Description of Work: Replace furnace, air conditioner, and hot water heater. Furnace included humidifier and UV light system. Other modifications included installing dampers so that heating and cooling on the upper floor could be regulated. Hot water heater included recirculation pump for master bathroom.

The technician, Houston Brown, arrived even earlier and spent over 2 hours on our units. He was thorough, pleasant and very knowledgeable. The contract we have with Neal Harris for annual maintenance of our heating and air-conditioning units has paid for itself numerous times.

Jeffrey (228118) arrived on time, identified himself, and handed me his business card . He covered his shoes and entered my home. After he told me what he was going to do, he went to the basement to the commence his work. He said the motor on my air conditioner was working harder due to condition of my capacitor and recommended that it be replaced now rather than wait for a hot day for it to fail. He also recommended a CO detector be placed in my bedroom to ensure I could hear it in the night and also recommended a Healthy Climate UV light. Jeffrey provided enough information to make an informed decision. I chose to replace the capacitor and do the CO detector another day. Jeffrey was thorough, efficient and professional. He even turned the light out in the basement, something often, if not always, overlooked by other service providers. I would definitely recommend Neal Harris for air conditioning and heating service. (Note: Neal Harris was my provider of choice to install my air conditioner and furnace presently in my home which was 6 years ago. So, I have 6 years experience with this company.) Note: The part was $252.00. I have an annual service plan with Neal Harris for both furnace and air conditioner service. This service call today was part of that plan. I don't recall the cost of this plan. Parts are discounted when parts are needed and installed during an annual scheduled service call. I believe the decision to act on a recommendation will be performed by a service representative anytime within 30 days with no additional cost for the service call, just the cost of the discounted part. So that gives you 30 days to research and think about the recommendation. So, should I decide to put the CO detector in my bedroom a few weeks from now, a service representative would come back to install for just the cost of the detector. I was not pressured to replace anything today.)

The installers were Todd S, Ed K, and Bobby H. They arrived when they said they would. They laid rugs and tarps on every surface they walked on. They install took one and 1/2 days. They installers were amazing!!!! I have been in retail for 20 years and I know installers can make you or brake you. The installers that came here were professional, courteous and very conscientious. We are very pleased with the work, the products and the installers. I will always be a reference for Neal Harris.

On Tuesday, April 19 we had a salesman come out for Neal Harris Service Experts, he was personable, social and most importantly knowledgeable about what we need. Our unit was not broken but it being twenty years old we knew it was time to replace before the summer heat hit. The salesman went over a few things with us and helped us pick out what we needed (similar to what they installed in 2013) and set us up an installment date. We were WOWed how fast they were able to schedule us. On Friday we had two technicians in to install. Jason T #351 and Jon S #353. Both were courteous and respectful to our home. Both asked if we had any questions and answered if we did. They met with us a few times throughout the installment to give us updates. The total installation took approximately six hours. We highly recommend Neal Harris Service Experts for your AC/Heating needs. The company is respectful of your time, sensitive to your needs and very professional. If you are replacing a unit, ask them about their Costco card program.
Description of Work: Our home has two AC/Heating units. In October 2013 our first unit went out and we used Neal Harris Service Experts, they did a such a great job that we used them once again last week (April 2016) when we had to replace our second unit.

Watren the sales rep came out and was very professional and up front. He was able to beat the price of our other quotes we received and were able to install the same week. I use them all the time. I'm on a maintenance plan so I pay one fee a year. They come and do anything I need. We've used them for the past 10 years and they show up when they are supposed to. They do a good job. Their prices are reasonable. My interaction with them was great. The work turned out good. I have no problems. I don't have any complaints. I never had anything to be disappointed about.

Our furnace went out unexpectedly and Neal Harris was there to save the day. The technicians that installed our new furnace were Todd S. and Matt S. (#224617). They both were very friendly and very knowledgeable. The entire installation process was orderly and efficient; we were up and running by late afternoon. Well, JC got on his phone to his manager while I got on mine to the hubby, who looked up a thermostat on sale at Best Buy he said was about half the price JC quoted me. So when JC came back from his phone call, he offered the middle of the road model, no sevice call fee, and he'd have it in next day. I said deal and signed the papers! I felt he went over the top for me, and in so doing probably came within 50 to my good if hubby &I had gone to Best Buy for the sale thermo, then hunted down a tech/company, had them install it so that would have been labor plus service call...I feel I have been well served.
Description of Work: My 20 year old thermostat had to be replaced, because it was too brittle to open and replace batteries. At first, JC on ticket #224338 talked to me about the product he used in his house - but the cost was way too high! I couldn't even handle that in a payment plan!
