+ -1 moreAll needed was a new starter cable on my lawn mower. Even with such a back log of other machines he had yet to service, because the problem was so simple, he got mine done expediently. The only reason he gets a 4 star review is that he did not offer or give me the 10% senior discount his ad claims he honors. I felt that this "perk" should have been on his part to offer, not mine to bring up.

+ -1 more.I called RG, Rob said sure he'd look at it, called the next day and told me what was wrong, what it would cost and asked if I wanted him to fix it. It was in my opinion faster getting on it than I expected, and doing the repair after calling me for a go ahead, had it ready in two days. The cost of $55 was a fair price, (he was apologetic for the cost, explaining that he almost had to do a complete engine disassemble to replace the fuel lines). I could see for myself that the manufacturers design was not done for ease of repair. I am completely satisfied with the cost, the responsiveness and Rob's professionalism.
Description of Work: I had a two cycle blower vacuum that would not start. He looked at it the next day and called me with the estimate.

+ -1 moreI took the mower to a competitor closer to my home who charged $90 to diagnose why I had no spark from my plug. I arrived a few days later to see the plug hanging out and the valve cover off. When questioned about the finding I was told it needed rings or a new engine. I pickd it up paid the money and took it to Robert at RG and he said the compression is fine. He adjusted a valve and informed me that one of the valve cover bolts was missing and told me it started on the 2nd pull. This took all of 40 minutes. Very honest straight forward individual

He arranged for the mower to be picked up on a Saturday morning (a very nice service offering compared to my previous provider, where I had to take the mower in myself). He performed the full slate of annual maintenance services, including oil, spark plug and air filter changes as well as blade sharpening/balancing. He also took care of a couple other incidentals (wheel alignment and replacement of the trailing shield). To cap it off, he cleaned and waxed the mower and sent it back looking great. Drop off, like pick up, was arranged for a Saturday morning and I paid the driver with a check. All this was completed at an extremely fair price, well below the shop I had previously used for this service. Thanks to Rob for a great experience from start to finish. RG will get all my small engine work from now on!

+ -1 moreVery happy! Rob did not hesitate to schedule us in, despite being out of his normal service area. He showed up promptly and had our mower back to us within a week. It looks and performs like new. The final bill was within the estimate. The shop did great work and the price was very reasonable. We would use RG Small Engine Repair again.
Description of Work: Picked up and delivered riding mower. Changed oil, spark plug, air filter, fuel filter, and oil filter. Sharpened and balanced blades. Removed deck to clean and balance. Greased all fittings. Tightened steering wheel. Checked and corrected tire pressure. Installed new PTO cable. Washed and waxed entire machine!

+ -1 moreOn the first day of legitimate spring mowing season, the trusty LawnBoy failed to start. . . so I visited Angie's list for a suggestion and I found Rob's shop listed, with some high recommendations. I immediately made an appointment. He had a full stable of mowers to repair, and gave me a time estimate of 7-10 days (first in, first out lineup), and I happily left a non-working mower in his hands with instructions to go ahead with any necessary repairs. (By the way, he will call with an estimate before proceeding with repairs, if that is your preference). But back to the story-- seems there was a bit of water in the gas tank, so not only was the mower tuned up, the gas feed line was replaced and the mower was returned in excellent condition. Rob had also put a new pull cord on (replacing the worn equipment) and gotten the job done ahead of the time estimate. And as an additional bonus, it was customer appreciation day--so lunch was also included. What a great experience-- and a great shop!

+ -1 moreThis is a guy that repairs lawn mowers out of his home which means you don't pay the high price of a storefront facility that has rent and a building to support. He is rated as an "A" on Angies list so I took that at face value. Took my high end 4 year old Toro lawn mower into him for a tune up and parts only to find he couldn't even start it. By the time he went through it, it needed a charger, battery, oil tube, oil a tune up, filter and cable adjust. I thought it was going to cost as much as a new one but he charged a bit over two hundred dollars and was immediately able to get all the parts including a couple that were half priced because they were used. He did it in two days. In return the lawn mower was like new. Everything was perfect and unlike any other repair shop he even washed and buffed it plus gave me a folder with the repair detail, serial numbers and everything i needed to keep it going in the future. I have had lawn mowers and tractors for forty years and been to all kinds of repair shops. His service was well worth it and at this point I wouldn't any lawn mower anywhere else. He is as honest as can be and unlike so many out there will not pad his bill because he can.

Description of Work: My Honda mower is almost 15 years young. My Weed Eater Trimmer was about the same age. Rob and his team had my mower back to me very quickly. My trimmer however, was a lost cause. They recommended not repairing it as it would be three times the cost I payed for it originally. I thought they were going to try to sell me a trimmer (as this company is a "Tanaka" dealer), but I was shocked when they did not. After doing a bit of research, I phoned Rob to inquire of the "Tanaka" trimmers pricing. He asked about my usage and made a recommendation. I compared it to a "Stihl" trimmer and their cost was well below with a SEVEN YEAR Warranty! Now, here is the most interesting part of the additional transaction. When speaking to Rob on the phone, he said there was a $30 Rebate being offered on their trimmers. Score! But, that is not the amazing part. When I arrived and accepted delivery of the item, he told me that the rebate only applied to the "higher end" trimmers. In that moment, I thought I had been "had." I worried it was the old "bait and switch." BUT, that was NOT the case. Instead, he gave me the full rebate amount anyway! I even tried to get him to remove it because I felt badly. I did not want him to "eat" the cost because of his honest mistake. He insisted I pay the reduced rate. Simply amazing.

+ -1 moreThey promptly trouble shot the tiller (at no cost), diagnosed what was wrong with it and called me with an estimate. We both agreed that the cost of repair was more than the tiller was worth, so I took their recommendation not to repair the tiller. They also took the tiller for recycling (at no cost), saving me from having to find a way/place to dispose of the inoperative tiller. This was the first time I have used RG Small Engine Repair - but not the last time.

+ -1 moreDropped off on a Tuesday morning, no quote but felt he could get the engine running again and said it was possible to re-weld the guard back into its proper place. RG said he would have it turned around in two days and sure enough I got the call on Thursday that it was ready for pick up. Turn around was quick - 2 days as promised (although not necessary going into winter). Price was very reasonable considering all the work needed to get the unit in running order. RG's is the type of establishment that belongs in your black book of contacts. I have every confidence that this guy can fix anything with a small engine - quality work at a fair price. Would recommend RG's to all and will definitely be using again when the need for small engine repair arises.
Description of Work: Gas powered edger was in bad shape, several years without running. The carburetor was messed up and the protective blade guard had cracked along the weld. RG tuned and cleaned the engine - runs tip top again. Also managed to re-weld the blade guard in place.

+ -1 moreRobert Grant repaired my 20 year old Snapper 5 HP walk behind lawn mower. The seals were shot on the carbureter and leaked gas everywhere. Also, the self-propelled mechanism stopped working. He was quick to give me a free estimate and it took about a week and a half to get it back. I thought that was pretty good as he seemed to be pretty busy and had a lot of customers ahead of me. + -1 moreWhen they called and said it was ready, I picked it and it seemed to be working fine the first time. The 2nd time I used it, it started dying off and on and I had a hard time keeping it going. The 3rd time, I couldn't get it to start at all. I brought it back up there and they fixed it w/o charge. The only issue was the inconvience of having to bring it back in, the extra time it took and they didn't call me when it was completed the 2nd time. I had to call them. Since then, it has been working fine all summer to date.
Description of Work: Brought my lawnmower in for it's annual tuneup and an issue I was having with the Pull Cord starter being locked up.

While the pick-up fee was a little steep ($40) it was worth it to us, and the company was very professional, quick (turned it around in three days!) and the mower runs well.
Description of Work: Picked up our mower and took it to their shop for a tune-up and blade sharpening. Delivered the mower when they were done.
