JMS Tile was a PLEASURE to work with! They were most professional, polite, treated us and our home with great respect, were prompt in arriving each day and truly kept any inconvenience or mess to an absolute minimum. They knew exactly how to rotate the work so we had working bathrooms at all times, yet kept the total project of redoing three bathrooms moving in a timely manner. Their artistry is wonderful and they are VERY particular and detailed in their work. Natural stone can vary greatly in its look and color and the way they meticulously chose the placement of the tile created a magnificently beautiful final product. They were honest in the use of the materials and we were able to return any unused product for a refund at The Tile Shop. Redoing three bathrooms could have potentially been a nightmare but the entire thing went so smoothly and efficiently that I can say it was fun! We are deliriously happy with the end result! I highly recommend these men. They are skilled, trustworthy and were nice to have around from start to finish.
Description of Work: Mr. Shumate and his co-worker, Scott, demolished and completed new tile work on three bathrooms. They removed old tile around existing bathtubs in two bathrooms and completely removed a shower unit in the third bathroom. In addition, they removed old flooring, all plumbing fixtures, mirrors and most electrical fixtures. Existing toilets were removed and reinstalled. Countertops/sinks were removed and tile countertops and vessel sinks were installed on existing cabinetry. John (Mr. Shumate) met us at The Tile Shop and offered most helpful advice in choosing tile along with the use of his generous discount in purchasing the tile. We completed all three bathrooms in natural travertine stone tiles, each bathroom differing in the shape of the tile, added trim and/or color of tile. John scheduled a plumber to be here for each shower valve installation that needed to be done prior to the tile work. This same individual had expertise in electrical work as well, so could take care of some electrical changes where needed in order to install new electrical fixtures. We did all the selection of plumbing fixtures at a local plumbing showroom/distributor i.e. shower fixtures, faucets, etc. and had them here ready for John/Scott to install through the process of each bathroom project. We also chose to seal the tile at the end of installation, remove wallpaper where needed and do painting where needed.

It went very well. The whole process took less than three weeks. He has a person who brings him the boards and helps him in other ways, but Jon is the only one who does the actual cutting and laying. He did a very good job, as usual. He had previously installed the travertine tile in our bathrooms. He is patient and easy to work with. We have had many compliments on our new floors. They are a shiny cherry bronze and look like waxed hardwood. We couldn't be happier with the results.
Description of Work: He took out all of our carpeting and linoleum and replaced them with laminate flooring. This was the entire house, except for the bathrooms. The carpet was torn out, rolled up for disposal, and all of the carpet tacks removed--all in less than two days. There was a circular area and a stairway landing to work around, which made it more difficult, but he did a great job. He also had to cut under the doorway facings to make the laminate fit. Our laminate was made up of individual boards. He used scraps as much as he could. There was very little waste.

We had a do-it-yourself job of laying down ceramic tile in our master bathroom go wrong, apparently we used wrong materials and ended up with cracked tiles and grout. I called JMS in desperation to get us out of this mess and explained my situation over the phone. John gave me a rough estimate on the job and explained what he would do and how long it would take. The quote given to us was for labor only to demo the old floor and to lay down the new floor, materials (tile, grout and thinset) were purchased in addition at the tile shop by us with a discount provided by JMS. Within two weeks John was out here to start the job that only took 2 1/2 days from start to finish. He did a wonderful job and even gave us some tips of what we did wrong. I don't have a single complaint and we are very satisfied with the completed job quality and time it took to complete. Thank you! I will be back with other projects down the road.

Jon was highly recommended by Angie's List and by a local tile company where he does a lot of business. I thought I would have to hire someone to do the construction work and then have him tile the areas, but he agreed to do it all, even though laying tile is his forte. I ran into some problems with the people who supplied the master bath vanity, so the job took longer than it should have, but Jon was patient and understanding about the delay. The bathrooms look great! I have had many compliments on them. I would recommend Jon to anyone who wants an honest and patient person who does great work at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: I remodeled two bathrooms. The plumbing pipes and the walls were left intact, but the rest of the areas were totally redone. Some of the plumbing and electrical was contracted out, but Jon did the majority of the work, which included: (1) Master bath and walk-in closet--removed the carpet, the surround shower, the old double vanity, the cast-iron tub, soffit areas above the vanity, and two privacy partitions. He put in a new toilet, a whirlpool tub, a vanity, and two vessel sinks, and laid sheetrock where necessary. He installed travertine tile on the floor, around the shower walls, around the tub, and on the vanity countertop. (2) Guest bath--removed the carpet, the surround in the tub/shower combo unit, the vanity, and the soffit area above the vanity. He put in a new toilet and vanity and laid sheetrock where necessary. He installed travertine tile around the shower walls above the tub and on the floor.

Jon was very friendly from the phone call to the estimate. He came to our home and spent a good deal of time getting an understanding of what I want done. He went above and beyond the call of duty by recommending some other companies on other work that needs to be done that he does not provide. I have some more estimates scheduled and things to think about, but if I do not use him for this project, I will for others. I will definitely recommend him to friends!!!

Jon was quick to come over and give me an estimate when I called him. They were even ready to start working within the next week. He also checked on the prices he could receive when purchasing a specific tile I wanted and if I could find it somewhere else for a cheaper price. He ended up finding it cheaper somewhere else so I went there and purchased all of the product beforehand so it was ready when he started. When they began the demo portion of my shower they discovered extremely bad wood rot. So the project was put on hold while I had another contractor come in and fix the beams, etc. Jon and I were in constant communication while the contractor fixed the shower up. After the shower was fixed and ready to go, they worked hard to get me back on the schedule so they could finish up. I believe it took a total of 3 days work. By the time they finished, it looked like a completely different bathroom! I cannot explain to you how great their craftsmanship is! Jon knows exactly what he is doing and I would hire him in a heartbeat for another project.
Description of Work: I had Jon and his co-worker come in to demo and rebuild my main bathroom shower. They replaced the shower valves/shower head and installed my new sink.

This was my second excellent experience with Jon Shumate. He met us at the tile shop with invaluable suggestions. He allowed us to purchase the tile with his discount. When he was ready to do the job, he picked it up and brought it to our house. He demolished the old tile, patched the drywall and cleaned up very well as he went. He then spent three days doing a superb job of installation. He is truly an artist and was very easy to deal with and very pleasant. I can not recall ever dealing with a better contractor of any type. We are completely satisfied with his work.

We had a leak in our Master Bath and we thought it had damaged the floor and walls. We found out that the shower floor had been installed backwards on a previous remodel to the same bathroom. As a result, we decided to gut the bathroom and do it over entirely. JMS was recommended to us along with a couple of other companies. We had JMS give us an offer for the work and due to the professional handling that Jon did and the reasonableness of his offering, we did not even get a second bid. Jon gutted the bathroom and in place of ceramic tile, we selected Travertine, a new vanity and a vessel. He coached us on all of the accessories in the room so that we would get the best impact and that is exactly what we got. The bathroom is gorgeous and everything looks exactly as it should.
Description of Work: Had a 3/4 bath gutted and had installed Travertine tile in the shower and as a wainscoat in the rest of the bathroom. Installed a new subflooring and sheet rock. Had a new vanity and mirror installed, as well as lighting and a new shower valve and all new plumbing fixtures.

It was truly a positive experience in every way. We talked with a number of other contractors before deciding to go with Jon and Scott. We were impressed that they really listened to what we wanted, obviously knew how to execute our plan, do all of the work themselves, and gave us a prompt and fair bid. (Choosing Jon & Scott over a large home store which does custom bath remodeling saved us over 50% so please check JMS Tile out before going with a big box store because you think it will be easier. Jon and Scott can do it all!) Once work began, they worked quickly but carefully, working continuously on our project until it was done, including some weekend days. During the entire process, both Jon and Scott were wonderful to work with: friendly, honest, reliable, neat, and willing to go the extra mile when needed. Scott is an amazing tile setter. The entire project was done in under two weeks. When we need similar work done in the future we will definitely call Jon.

Jon and Scott came in the first day day and leveled the floor in the basement with cement. I was suppose to have a partial wall built to enclose the shower. I wasn't able to get this done before they came. So instead of postponing me, they went ahead and built the wall a couple days later. Jon then had a contractor install the plumbing for the shower. The complete bathroom took less then a week, even with the unexpected wall. Jon was extremely conscientious to the every detail. I was very impressed with the entire job. He even did a few odd jobs for me around the house that had nothing to do with tile. He seemed to be very knowledgeable in all areas of remodeling. Because I was so pleased with his work, I hired him to put in my wet bar countertop and floor for the wet bar.
Description of Work: Jon and Scott built a Travertine Stone shower and floor in my basement bathroom. Jon hooked up a pedestal sink and toilet. They also, put in a counter top on the wet bar and a small floor in front of it. Jon installed the sink in the wet bar.

They did the floor in one bathroom and in another he did the floors, walls and shower. What they do is charge labor only and one nice thing he does is set you up with a tile store who he does business with and you can get the tile at a discounted price. I paid him $1500 in labor and $2000 for the tile. I have already hired him again for another project! I would highly recommend him to others.

I signed a contract with Jon to ''tile all areas of my home''. He completed everything but some of the tile in the kids' bath. He said he didn't have enough tile to complete this part and would come back to finish the job later. Jon then ignored my numerous calls to him for 6 months. I had to call my contractor to ''convince'' Jon to call me back. When Jon finally called me back, he said he would have to charge me a $300 minimum to come back and finish the job he didn't complete 6 months ago. When I reminded him that he signed a contract with me to ''tile the entire house'', and that I had paid him in full he said ''well, we'll negotiate a new price''. I promptly told him I would not pay him twice for the same job. Jon never called me back (my builder is now finishing the job Jon refused to finish). Jon's work is pretty good and his prices are low, but that doesn't mean much if he isn't willing to honor his word and his written contracts (and he isn't).
Description of Work: I hired JMS Tile (Jon Shumate) to install all areas of tile in my new house (mudroom floor, 1/2 bath floor, kitchen backsplash, master bath shower, floor and walls, kids' bath shower and floor, etc.).

THE MEMBER DID NOT HIRE US OR PAY US THE BUILDER DID. WE WERE NOT INVOLVED IN BIDDING THE JOB OR SELLING THE TILE ANOTHER TILE CONTRACTOR WAS. AFTER THAT TILE CONTRACTOR AND THE MEMBER HAD A FALLING OUT THE BUILDER HIRED US TO TRY TO SALVAGE THE JOB FOR HIM. THE PRICE WE QUOTED WAS BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF TILE THAT WAS ALREADY PURCHASED AND SUPPLIED FOR THE JOB. THE JOB WAS AN HOUR AND A HALF AWAY SO WHEN WE WERE ALREADY STARTED AND HE WANTED ADDITIONAL TILE PUT IN AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE SHOWER I TOLD HIM WE WOULD DO IT WHEN WE RETURNED TO DO OUR BUILDERS NEXT HOUSE AND THAT HE NEEDED TO PURCHASE THE ADDITIONAL TILE. AFTER 3 TRIPS TO GET THE TILE WHEN HE SAID IT WAS WAITING FOR ME AND IT WASN'T I BECAME FRUSTRATED. THE 300 DOLLAR CHARGE WAS FOR SEALING TILE AND REPAIRING GROUT AFTER HE FLOODED HIS OWN BATHROOM, BOTH OF WHICH ARE ADDITIONAL CHARGES AND 300 WAS MORE THAN FAIR. HE TRIED TO BLAME THE BUILDER FOR THE TOILET FLOODING EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE OCCUPYING THE HOME. THE MEMBER WANTED THE BUILDER TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS BUT OF COURSE THAT WASN'T PROPER. THE BUILDER TOLD ME TO CHARGE HIM DOUBLE BECAUSE THIS INDIVIDUAL WAS SUCH AN UNREASONABLE PAIN BUT I DIDN'T. TOO BAD THERE ISN'T AN ANGIE'S LIST DESIGNED TO WARN CONTRACTORS OF UNREASONABLE CUSTOMERS BECAUSE THERE ARE FAR MORE BAD CUSTOMERS THAN CONTRACTORS. THE MEMBER THREATENED TO SUE US OVER THE FEW PIECES OF TILE HE WANTED AROUND THE PLASTIC SHOWER ENCLOSURE. AT THAT POINT I DID NOT RETURN ANY FURTHER CALLS.

I am thrilled with the results! I have received several compliments on what a high quality job they performed. John and Scott are hard working and efficient, as well as just great guys. They were very accommodating, as they had to work around a large pool table and the surprise foundation crack that was discovered when the carpet was removed (as well as a noisy, hyper dog). The cost of the project was very reasonable as well. I just wish I had heard about JMS Tile before having flooring installed in two bathrooms upstairs (the bids from other companies to install tile were so high that I went ahead and installed vinyl flooring). I was able to get quite a discount on the stone by using JMS as well. Probably the best part of it all was that this was the first time I have felt completely comfortable with a contracted home improvement project from start to finish. I will definitely be using JMS Tile for all future tiling projects. Thanks guys!
Description of Work: They installed approximately 730 square feet of natural stone tile in a mosaic pattern. The area covered was a basement bathroom, hallway, and recreational room. An area where the foundation was cracked was also leveled before tiling.

FIRST LET ME SAY IT WAS A PLEASURE WORKING FOR YOU, BUT I AM SADDENED THAT YOU GUYS DIDNT DISCUSS YOUR CONCERNS WITH US BEFORE WE WERE DONE OR BEFORE POSTING YOUR REPORT. IF YOU HAD WE COULD HAVE EXPLAINED TO YOU WHY SOME OF YOUR TILES SEEM IRREGULAR. THE REASON IS SIMPLE. THE TILE YOU PURCHASED, 1 INCH BY 1 INCH AND 2 INCH BY 1 INCH, FROM NEBRASKA FURNITURE MART COMES PRESPACED AND INSTALLED BY THE FACTORY ON A MESH BACKING THAT IS ALREADY SET 1 FOOT BY 1 FOOT. WE REMOVED THE OBVIOUS TILES THAT WERE REALLY BAD AND REPLACED THEM BUT WHEN WORKING WITH A STONE OR A FAKE STONE (PORCELAIN, SLATE KNOCK OFF) SOME IMPERFECTIONS ARE ACTUALLY THE NORM. THEN YOU ADD THE FACT THAT YOU HAD US INSTALL ONLY A PARTIALLY HEATED FLOOR RATHER THAN A COMPLETE ONE THAT LEFT SOME AREAS OF THE FLOOR HIGH & SOME LOW. EVEN WITH THE FLOOR LEVELER IT IS HARD TO REMOVE ALL THE HIGHS AND LOWS WHEN YOU HAVE A HEATING ELEMENT UNDER SUCH SMALL TILES THAT ARE IRREGULAR TO BEGIN WITH. WE HAVE DEALT WITH THE LARGE CHAINS LIKE N.F.M & HOME DEPOT, ETC. FOR MANY YEARS. WHEN TILE MANUFACTURES HAVE FLAWED TILE NO MATTER HOW MINUTE THE FLAW IS THEY SELL IT AT A HUGE DISCOUNT TO THE BIG WAREHOUSES BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT WONT MEET THE STANDARDS OF MOST (TILE STORES). THAT IS WHY THEIR TILE PRICES SEEM SO LOW. WE DO DISCUSS SOME OF THESE ISSUES ON OUR WEBSITE. I CANT ADDRESS THE PRICE CONCERN SINCE WE ARE USUALLY CHEAPER THAN OUR COMPETITION & WE MET YOUR BUDGET. IF THERES ANYTHING WE CAN DO PLEASE GIVE US A CALL!

They worked very hard and diligently to get the work done. I appreciated the creativity and unique designs that they came up with. They were very friendly and polite.
Description of Work: The work is beautiful and very creative. The company tiled over 3,000 square feet, and almost all of it was natural stone. Most of that was flooring, but they also did four fireplaces, 2 showers, a back splash in the bar and one in the kitchen, and granite on our bar.

They were very responsive, there when they said they would be. When I had a problem, they corrected it immediately. Anybody who has come into my home and sees the work is very impressed. The tile looks beautiful. They made some excellent tile recommendations that turned out to be very nice.
Description of Work: Laid tile flooring in a kitchen, two foyers, a bathroom & laundry room, also a kitchen backsplash.
