Prior work they did for us was great. This year we can't get them to return our phone calls after leaving three voice mails starting in mid June. I know we reached the correct number because the greeting said the correct company name. Disappointed because we were quite pleased with work in the past.
Description of Work: We have used this company in the past and were quite satisfied. However, we have left three voice mails in June inquiring about service and phone calls have not been returned. A voice mail was left on 6/15, 6/20 and 6/25. We are now in the process of finding another tree service company on Angie's List.

Due to the storms we have had coming through the area I'm 43 calls behind and being just a small company, I do all the cutting myself. I work 10 hrs during the day and then do bids in the evening till 8:00 p.m. normally only able to get to 3 to 5 bids a night. This makes for a 14 hr. day 6 days a week, and with the Ash Bore in the Kansas City area this year it has been extra busy. I strive for personal one on one service with my company so you have to be a bit patient with me when storms hit the area because people with storm damage have priority over normal trimming calls.

I've used Leawood Tree Service before to thin a tree and was very happy. When Mr Bingham returned to provide an estimate on my tree in the back yard, I emphasized that we are bird watchers and as that is the only tree in our back yard, that while it needed to be thinned to prevent wind damage, I still needed to be able to reach and hang all my feeders. When he returned to perform the work, I again reminded him that I needed branches left low enough so that I could hang all my feeders. He removed all the feeders and assured me all feeders could be rehung on the tree after he was done thinning it. I left him to do his job but when I came back to see his progress, I was stunned to see that he had cut off most of the lower branches (there are now only 2 that I can reach) and, in fact, the two branches are on one side of the tree and NONE that I can reach on the back side of the tree. I'm unable to hang 1/2 of my feeders. To compound the problem, we spend most of the summer on our screened porch and I knew that if he kept the low branches on the tree for my feeders, that it would provide the privacy that we need to keep car lights from shining onto our sitting area. I can't tell you how shocked and devastated I was to see that he totally ignored my request to trim the tree based on MY needs and requirements -- and he chose to trim it the way he wanted. I waited one day to calm down before I wrote this review thinking that maybe I'd be less emotional about it but I was awake all night thinking about how, in my mind, he has ruined our enjoyment of our tree, the birds and our deck -- all because he decided to ignore my needs. I know he didn't forget my insistence upon being able to hang the feeders as once he was done, he asked me if I could reach the feeders. I could only reach 3 of 6! If he was truly concerned about whether or not I could reach my feeders, he would have asked that question BEFORE he cut all the lower branches off. This isn't some cheap haircut that will grow back! I have absolutely no way of getting back those branches and the privacy they provided. Before he left I told him how unhappy I was with what he had done. He suggested I use a pole with a hook on the end to move the feeders but that was unworkable. He had no solution for the privacy problem he created. Now bird feeders are not a big deal for most people but my point is that when you work with Leawood Tree Service, this experience tells me that it isn't what YOU want that matters -- it is what HE wants. If you use this company, be aware of that issue.
Description of Work: He was asked to thin out a large tree and leave branches low enough to accommodate my numerous birdfeeders.

When I was called back I was told that the tree was too thick and that the lower branches were in the way of the mower people, as well as that the grass was fading away in the summer. I used a green pointer and told her the lower limbs with the bird feeder would have to be removed since most were only 3 to 4 ft off the ground. I told her that the bird feeders could be hung on higher limbs so she could still see the birds but she would have to have a small pole with a hook on the end to remove the feeders for filling. She seemed fine with that & when I return in 29 days I re-stated that to her before starting the work. I asked her if she had aquired a small wood pole with a hook, she said she just couldn't visualize that, so I told her I would take less branches off so I could hang the feeders myself since we were about the same height, she said fine and went back inside, when she came back out later she said I DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD LOOK THIS OPEN and I don't like it and don't know what my options are now? I asked he if she wanted me to just quit she said no go ahead and finish the tree which I did, I then hung all the feeders back up myself so she could see the birds feeding. This house sits 2nd back in a culdsack and the street she is talking about is 100 yds away with a neighbors 6 trees all in the backyard that the lights she is talking about would have to filter through to get to her porch. The only NEEDS she told me about was being able to see the birds feeding, the limbs were too low for the mower people, & grass fading in the summer, NOTHING ever was mentioned about sitting out on the porch at night, car headlights and she needed to keep the lower limbs. I trimmed the tree to the NEEDS she told me about, I'm only 5'9" and I easily hung all the feeders when done with no problems myself. NOTHING WAS EVER MENTIONED ABOUT PRIVACY ! When she came out she said she couldn't reach the feeders I reached up and removed it and replaced it, she said that was not easy and she didn't want to do that, so I said I would go to a local Ace's and buy for her the wood stick and hook and bring it back to make it easy for her. When I returned she had taken all the feeders down and moved in different places and a small 10 inch plastic stool on the ground she had used to move the feeders. I showed her the stick with the hook and removed several feeders and replaced them showing her how easy it was now. She then said it looked to hard and she was upset about the removal of the lower limbs. I then said well there is nothing else I can do to make it easy for you & do you want this tool I just bought and made for you or not, she said yes just leave it by the tree. I bent over backwards for this customer and now know what she meant by OPTIONS with this bad report. I've been in this business for 20 years and on Angie's list since 2004 and have won the Super Service Award every year since 2005, so I will stand on my record and let the customers form their own opinions of this report.

Arborist was very knowledgable and was able to diagnose the problem with our Pin Oak. He gave us helpful suggestions and advice to address the problem. Chuck also treated our Ash Tree to prevent the Emerald Ash Borer infestation. We had our Honey Locust treated for an insect problem. We are very pleased with their services and will recommend them to others.

I made the terrible mistake of using a questionable tree service to prune my trees late last summer. This spring when the trees were waking up from winter they were weeping/bleeding from the cuts made last year. I panicked as I realized my trees were truly injured. I found Leawood Tree Service on Angie's List based on the top reviews this company had received. I contacted the owner, Chuck Bingham, and told him about my issue. He came out immediately and surveyed the damage. I was concerned that I was going to lose my trees, one of which was a flowering dogwood. Mr. Bingham assured me he could save them and then proceeded to show me why the cuts made were so damaging. He said that with proper care and proper pruning, the trees would survive. He told me what I needed to do in the two weeks before he came back to fix the pruning. I followed his precise directions and when he returned to do the work, there was already improvement. He then proceeded to refine the injured areas and thinned out the trees branches that were improperly growing. Mr. Bingham is extremely knowledgable about his profession. He is a certified arborist and knows trees better than they know themselves! I am still following his instructions for watering, etc. In the month since he came out, my trees are recovering nicely and look wonderful. I highly recommend him to anyone who made a mistake like I did by using a questionable tree service as well as anyone who wants their trees to stay healthy.

The trees in my yard had not been trimmed in a long time. I had a redbud which was overhanging the front walk and rubbing on the roof. Chuck raised it up and removed two dead branches which were high up. He also raised a hackberry which was interfering with mowing the yard. Similarly, he raised an overgrown oak which was intruding upon my deck, and another tree which was touching the roof of the garage. In addition, he trimmed the neighbor's trees which were overhanging one fence line, and raised up my trees over a second fence line. He also removed 3 small dead trees and cut out branches of two others which were too close to the power lines. He gave me advice on why I should not allow vines on my trees and what to do about them, what to do about carpenter ants, how to water trees in a drought, and how to put up bird feeders in taller trees. He's a good problem solver - even for ones you didn't know you had! When he was done, all the cut limbs and wood debris was hauled away, even some dead branches which had already been there. The yard seemed so much more clean and spacious after he finished! With the tree branches lifted up, I felt uplifted myself. There is now more light for the grass, and since that time it has grown much better. There are even fewer squirrels on my deck. I will definitely call Chuck back the next time I need tree work done. He's cheerful, energetic, and a very hard worker!

Chuck was great! I hired a tree company that was on a Angie's List "Deal" over a month ago to work on (4) Oak Trees. I failed to be deligent about researching them. I got the "DEAL" if you understand what I mean!! This first hired company was polite but did not use professional tools and techniques to attempt the job. They even offered to return to the scene of the crime, after I reported their poor performance to Angie's list, and attempt again. First time shame on them, second time shame on me. This time I hired Leawood tree service and the problems were corrected in one visit. Chuck even offered recommendations, that I could do, to care for other damaged trees. He even wanted me to observe one completed tree before starting on others. The work performed by Leawood Tree Service was outstanding. Prompt, professional, and no problems. Chuck's selling point really was accurate: He bids and performs the work himself. No mis-communications you know exactly what he is going to do! He has invested in special arborist certifications that demonstrate his commitment to his profession not, just a job or sideline. I will call Leawood tree care again for future work as needed.

Chuck was very responsive and quick to arrive for bid request. He came out and gave me a bid plus gave me a lot of useful information and referrals to other services that I needed to clean up the overgrowth around my fence and power lines. Which I really needed as I am new to the area. I feel he was extremely honest in keeping my cost low never selling me anything I didn't need. The work that was performed was done at a very fair price. He did the bid on Thursday I believe and was on the job Saturday and completed it. He kept me informed as of his ETA and went over and beyond Great customer service. I will absolutely use him again and highly recommend him to anyone! Thanks Chuck for doing such great work, for keeping me informed of your ETA and for giving me cost effective advice and referrals.

I have used Chuck for a few years and in my mind he is my official tree guy. His knowledge of trees and diseases and bugs is up to date and thorough. He loves the trees and he's really into keeping them in good health. We had a major branch fall from neighbors 50 foot oak and it damaged our patio, furniture, trellis and plants. We were out of town and I knew I could call him and he came right out and cleaned it up carefully and thoughtfully so this large branch wouldn't cause more damage in the clean up process. On another tree he saved us money by showing us that we didn't need to cut a whole branch, but just part of it for the solution we needed. He's very professional, clear and fair about prices. I wish most businesses operated like he does. As long as he's doing this work I'll have him look after my trees.

I called Mr. Bingham on a Friday, and he arrived the next day to take a look at the dead trunk/limb hanging over my backyard. He quoted me an extremely reasonable price, and said he could take care of it immediately if I wanted. I thought his price was so good, that I agreed. He had the tree trunk cut, chipped, and hauled away extremely quickly, and did a wonderful job. I had also asked what he thought of the condition of the other two large trees in my yard. He gave me great advice on keeping the trees healthy, so that they would not need expensive removal in the future. This was a really good experience with an individual who knows his business, is a certified arborist, charges reasonable prices, and is a true professional. I highly recommend Chuck Bingham!

They were thorough, courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. I was very pleased that as they cut branches down (some quite large), they cut everything up into logs and stacked those for our fireplace. We highly recommend Leawood Tree Service and will certainly be calling on them in the future.
Description of Work: We were primarily concerned with safety, to prevent a problem with limbs over the roof. We have a lot of trees, and we spoke with a number of tree services. Chuck was the only one who gave us an itemized list and stood by his prices for a year. He stated we could select any or all of the items listed. Everyone else quoted big prices and wanted to do everything at one time. Chuck was willing to do the work on a priority basis and work on this in stages. I anticipate using Chuck (Leawood Tree Service) on an ongoing basis to keep our trees healthy and safe.

It all went real well. I know very little about trees and thought that the 2 trees would have to be removed but I guess the years will tell if all was done right. He arrived when he said he would for the estimate and his estimate was right in line with the others. He arrived when he said he would for the work and did the work himself with one helper. He left everything better than he found it. I will be calling him again when I'm ready to clean up the tree in the front yard.

I called and Chuck came out as scheduled, to view our sick pine. He was very friendly, knowledgable, honest and informative. Unfortunately, we had waited too long to have an expert come out, and it was too late to save the tree from disease and insects. He was very honest with his opinion, and that he could do nothing to save the tree. He recommended another (A-list rated) company for the removal, as the tree and job were way too large for his equipment. I will call Leawood Tree Service next time we have a sick tree...and hopefully sooner.

Things went very well as far as the visit for the estimate and the performance of the work. I had already gotten another estimate, but Chuck said that some of the limbs that I wanted taken out did not need to be taken out as they posed no threat. So he wrote everything up and left me to make my decision. There was no pressure. I did decide to go with him and sent him a fax confirming this. The only real problem in the whole deal was that from the time I gave the ok until the time he actually came to do the work was about a week and a half. i had hoped to get the work done more quickly since there were trees blocking my satellite. But when he came, he did a great job and cleaned everything up nicely. I would certainly use his services again.
Description of Work: I needed some tree trimming done. Some of it was needed to get a clear signal for my satellite coverage, some of it was out of concern for branches falling on my roof and some if it was just cosmetic.

I work 6 days a week and just can't do much more than that since I do all the cutting. I'm glad you liked my work and always try to do my best. Thanks for the work.
