About us

Swalms Organizing Service provides fast, courteous service with minor interruptions to my client's lives. My background includes a degree in Industrial Design from the Kansas City Art Institute, prior ownership of a successful industrial design and manufacturing company in Kansas City and 20 years in organizing and downsizing assistance. I specialize in organizing storage areas: attics, basements, garages, shops, storage rooms and storage units. I offer down sizing help as well. I assist my clients with deciding what to keep and donate, take donations to donation centers and take paper, cardboard and steel for recycling. Trash is bagged and ready for disposal. All areas are clean and neat when finished. I build simple and sturdy custom shelving that is designed to fit any space. Please read my Angie's List reviews and see my photos of completed jobs. Mrs [Member name removed] was a nice lady. I spent five days on her rather large project. My standard rate is $300/day which includes taking items such as cardboard, steel and papers to recycling and taking items to donation centers. I also can take paint for recycling as part of garage organizing projects. Many garages and basements have been overfilled by well meaning husbands, Mrs Bryan had that problem. I was happy to help her get the basement cleaned up!

He was courteous, polite and very professional. I live alone and I was very comfortable with him in my home.

Tillar did a great job; I should have asked him to hose out my garage as well as sweep it but that's my fault, the materials were $360 from Lowe's (shelving units, hooks, bins) and his labor for approx. 8 hrs. of work was $360 as well. Hauled away the trash. He also took 5-gallon paint containers to the recycling center. Very pleasant person, nice to my kids, pets, etc. His website shows some great before and after pictures.
Description of Work: Swept garage; bought/assembled shelves, installed hooks for tools, sorted belongings into bins, took old paint to recycling center.

Tiller was professional from the "get-go". He arrived exactly when he said he would and did exactly what he said he would. He surveyed the areas I was cleaning and organizing and knew exactly how to approach it. He made good suggestions. He estimated the time that it would take accurately. He is very trustworthy and I felt extremely comfortable leaving a garage door opener with him and access to my house. He separated items based on the ability to be recycled, donated or just trash. He took the donatable items to the appropriate venues. I thought that was great. He gives you the impression that he does what he does because he enjoys it, and he has a talent for it. I would recommend him to anyone who wanted a reliable, intelligent and honest person to help them at home! His bill detailed the costs of work done, and considering that he spent several days doing the job, it was well worth it.
Description of Work: Tillar cleaned and organized my basement and garage. He patched a hole in the drywall in garage, removed unnecessary nails and boards in the garage wall, painted my garage and removed things left behind by previous owner and got rid of old paint cans. He removed a large amount of wood and debris from recent yard work. He removed wooden storage shelves from my basement that were non-functional.

Tillar was professional, punctual, trustworthy, courteous and very hard working. He came out a few days after I contacted him with an estimate and began work a few days later. The minute he got to my house he immediately went to work and I got out of his way - he knew exactly what he was doing and never did I need to hover over him or check his work. After the debacle I had with my last handyman, it was such a joy to work with a professional who knew exactly what he was doing. When he was done, he swept up and cleaned all the rooms to perfection. This guy is terrific!
Description of Work: Tillar organized my garage and basement, picked up from a home supply store then put together 5 shelving units I had purchased, rebuilt a wooden shelf in my furnace room, built a mini shelf in my garage, lugged all my boxes from my garage to the basement then unboxed the majority of them and put everything in its perfect place, bagged, tied and took to curb some leftover flooring and trash my previous handyman failed to do, hauled away all my empty boxes, moved my clothes dryer to a different spot and reconnected the lint filter, unstuck 2 windows that were painted shut, put up a towel rack in the bathroom, replaced a light bulb, connected my speakers to my old stereo, moved furniture, stabilized my bed frame and swept up everything in his workplaces - all this in just 2 days!

I had never hired an Organizer before and after moving into my first home I was overwhelmed at all I had to do to get somewhat organized. Tillar was professional, punctual, trustworthy, courteous and very hard working. He came out a few days after I contacted him with an estimate and began work a few days later. Mr. Swalm is a friendly, courteous, clean and trustworthy worker who provides excellent service at a most reasonable price. He also does Handyman Home Repair, and I will have him back to make repairs to a wall in the newly emptied room and paint it. Anyone needing help will be more than satisfied with his work. He does organizing services, repairs, cleaning, and most any kind of home repair work. You can check his work at his website, www.swalms.com.
Description of Work: Cleaning out a bedroom which for 20 years had been used only for storage, and transporting usable items to a charity, the balance to disposal. Price listed is for two hours' work. Mr. Swalm will return in a few days to repair a wall and paint the room preparatory to its becoming a home office.

Tillar organizes items very efficiently, quickly and works well without supervision. He is very trustworthy, professional and polite. He has experience doing lots of other handyman types of jobs. For example, he also repaired tiles and grout in a shower upstairs ($300).
Description of Work: Tillar organized my basement, it took three days. You can see the BEFORE and AFTER on his website. I'm the OVERLAND PARK pictures. He sorted through boxes and boxes and organized the items into plastic boxes that I had already purchased. He didn't sort through pictures or minute things such as that. He folded up all of the empty boxes and took them upstairs to my garage so that I could put them out for the trash. He organized all of the furniture pieces that I had. In addition, he built a storage area for all of my extra clothes. There are double hanging rods on either side of a dress section. To save on cost, he hung heavy plastic sheeting to enclose the clothes.

Tillar calls back the same day and is always on time. He generally charges by the hour and is very resonable. Also he is quiet while on the job - he works alone and causes very little distrubance while here!
Description of Work: Tillar has done many things for me over the last ten years. The most recent job was repairing cracks in my walls and touching up the paint. He also repaired two long cracks across the livingroom ceiling. He put up a grab bar at my garage step and adjusted the latch at the front door so that the door would lock again. A job before this was to organise my basement - he took everything out of the old boxes I had, sorted everthing ang placed everything into new plastic bins. It makes such a difference when I go down there!

Tillar has been working for me for about ten years. When I call him, he calls me back quickly and arrives on time. Over the time he has worked here, he installed a laundry area upstairs in my office so that I did not have to take laundry up and down stairs. He installed two outside outlets and an outside sensor light. He has done much painting and small repairs over the years. I would recommend him to anyone who calls.
Description of Work: With his most recent work, he repaired sheetrock cracks around the living room. He painted the areas when finished. Tillar works alone and quietly. He is a pleasure to have in the house.
