Swalms Organizing Service provides fast, courteous service with minor interruptions to my client's lives. My background includes a degree in Industrial Design from the Kansas City Art Institute, prior ownership of a successful industrial design and manufacturing company in Kansas City and 20 years in organizing and downsizing assistance. I specialize in organizing storage areas: attics, basements, garages, shops, storage rooms and storage units. I offer down sizing help as well. I assist my clients with deciding what to keep and donate, take donations to donation centers and take paper, cardboard and steel for recycling. Trash is bagged and ready for disposal. The work was completed to our satisfaction!
Description of Work: We hired Swalms Organizing Service for a 2017 basement project. This is the second time we've used Swalms for our basement. The first time was in 2014 and organized us after a long distance move which left the basement a dumping ground. Tillar identified a nice location for shelving and did a great job unpacking and organizing. Over the course of the last few years, items were moved for garage sales and moved again for more garage sales. While we'd whittled down the contents we created disarray. We hired Tillar again in 2017 primarily for more shelving and the basement looks awesome again, with plenty of shelving storage and once again organized!

Was very responsive and scheduled the service in the next few days. Works efficiently and independently. I could still work from my home office while he was working. Things are much neater and more organized. I still have a lot of work to do to purge and get rid of a lot but I can at least get to it and have a better idea of what I have.

I just had a multi-day organizing and purging project in my garage and basement storage with Tillar Swalms of Swalm's Organizing. I cannot express how gratifying and wonderful it was!! I am a busy working mom so I needed to work with someone who could work independently, and I am so impressed by Tillar's ability to organize without my continual presence. He hauled away all of my donations (which were many) and built tool hanging shelves in my garage. In my basement, he organized a total disaster into a neatly labeled room with plenty of empty space. Tillar himself is a very nice man. It felt wonderful following him down the road after he completed the job and watching my unused possessions being taken to a charitable organization.

they showed up on time was professional you can imagine with 3 boys and 2 dogs how dirty white carpet can get they made it white again and also got out a RED cool aid stain, i recommend them, they are fairly priced,they cleaned 3 good size rooms and a hallway and it was only $140.00 Im so pleased with their work they deserve 10 stars. i will be using integrity carpet cleaning service again

Tillar did a wonderful job cleaning out my basement and garage, as well as putting up shelves to organize the garage. He was on time, efficient, checked with me if he had any questions, took things to be donated to Goodwill, ReStore, etc. and returned with receipts, hauled away anything else that was simply trash, and figured out where to put whatever was left. The basement and garage both feel and look so much better now.

Thank you [Removed Member Name] for this nice review. I was able to use existing shelving in her basement. The garage was a very small one car garage with very little excess room. I believe I took about two truckloads of donations and recycling materials from the basement and garage. In the garage, I removed everything from the space, then built shelving along the back wall. It extended over a rear door for maximum storage. Part of the shelving included a small work bench for her gardening - her favorite hobby. When I was finished, the car and all her tools fit inside the small space - a very successful garage organization!

I am in the process of moving to a smaller home and needed to de-clutter and organize my basement. It is like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders! Generally old cardboard and packing materials take up half the space in basements. Being able to take things for donations helps clear out the spaces and benefits others at the same time!

I called him before Christmas and asked if he would be available to help my husband organize our garage. I told him I wanted it to be a christmas gift for my husband, but I didn't want any work done until after the new year and that we could schedule the visit then. I informed him we lived in Lawrence on the first phone call. He told me that wouldn't be a problem and that he would call me a week later when he was back from Nashville. I then proceeded to make a nice certificate for my husband for his Christmas present informing him of Tillar's services. I had not heard from Tillar so I called him today and he informed me that he wouldn't be able to help me because he is too busy and Lawrence is too far away. I am very disappointed in his lack of professionalism and the fact that he has left me stranded without being able to provide the Christmas present I had planned for my husband. He should have informed me that he would be unable to provide services on the initial phone call.

He was precisely on time at 9 oclock, was always willing to work with me on scheduling beforehand. I was very pleased with the service, it took him just over an hour and a half to clean up the one room and he did a thorough job. My only concern was the fact that he charged an extra $20 for boxes which I felt was a bit steep.

The experience has been absolutely wonderful!! My husband and I have accumulated extra stuff over the past 25 years, through 3 homes including a move to the midwest. During that time, our children have moved and we have had several family members live with us. As a result, we have accumulated not only items from our homes but their things as well. Our daughter is graduating college and returning home and we had absolutely no space to store anything. I sent an e-mail to Tillar over a weekend and he called the Tuesday he returned, apologetic. We made an appointment for him to view our home and the storage unit, which he did at no cost. After seeing all the spaces, he made suggestions and estimated that it would take him approximately 4 days for all the spaces. He arrived promptly in his pickup as promised and got to work immediately. He brought his own tools and purchased boxes for sorting and storing items. We thought he would be directing us but that wasn't the case. Based upon the description and agreement of what would be done, HE got to work and at the end of the first day, he had cleaned out the majority of the garage, sorted everything into boxes and labeled them with various categories (electrical, plumbing, cleaning supplies, etc.) as well as created a pile for us to go through, which included garbage. He bagged the garbage, boxed the donations and recyclables and took it with him at the end of the day. The next day, he finished the garage, started the same process in our storage room and another bedroom that was turning into another storage room. The third day, the process was repeated with the exception that we had plans and had to end his tasks early. My husband and I work from home and had expected to be deeply involved. This wasn't necessary because once he had a plan, he did all the work! At the end of each day, he would show us his progress and we would do the happy dance when he left!!! Every area was organized with archive boxes labeling the contents. Holiday decorations were placed in storage tubs we already owned and placed neatly. We are seeing surfaces that haven't been visible for years. We have started on these projects at least 10 times and have never made the progress he has in just 3 days. He is quietly brilliant at organizing. He is respectful of our belongings and our feelings about them. After offering a suggestion, he does what we ask. He has a number of suggestions about local recycling, donations, etc. that we weren't aware of and are very helpful. His fees are more than reasonable for the amount of work he does, and be clear that HE does the work!! My husband made the statement that his cost is a great investment. We are reclaiming not only space but our peace of mind.
Description of Work: Mr. Swalm cleared and organized our garage and basement storage room . He hauled away any material that needed to be recycled or shredded. He is still working with us to clean out a unit in a storage facility to which we moved the overflow of 'stuff' we have accumulated over the years.

Mr Swalms was out of my budget range. I had recently been hospitalized and had a lot of other medical expenses. I could not afford his services at this time. I may use him for organizing the storage room that is attached to my 1 car garage. It is good that he is also a handy man and can get my tools off the floor and hanging so I may use him this spring or late winter for that purpose. I found another provider to do the work and their cost was a great savings to me. MY TIP TO MEMBERS> I have found that Organizers are expensive so a tip to my Angie's list friends/family is that you almost have to be an organized person and pre organize your stuff before using them. Some charge by the hour instead of a flat rate. MY RECOMMENDATION TO PROVIDER> My request to Mr Swalms as a provider with free estimates, please give a written brief description of the work to be performed including time, cost, and end results. It does not have to be that formal, but it helps a consumer to plan a budget and shop competative prices. OVER ALL All in all he was courteous and responsive and I would recommend giving him a try if you can afford him
Description of Work: I have forgotten the exact date of the estimate. No work was performed. Mr Swalms arrived as arranged to give an estimate. He stated he worked very fast and could have may 1 car garage cleaned/organized in about a day and a half. My goal was to be able to park my car in it again. It was very out of order! Ok, let me be real .... it was a MESS!

He did an excellent job. I was happy with his work. He was able to help me move stuff. I had to move just one piece of furniture downstairs. As far as helping me move stuff around, I think I like the fact that he was able to do that. It was just one thing. I think it was a chair that he helped me move. That was the thing I like about that. As far as organizing, he helped me put stuff, moved books from one room, but as far as organizing the books, he didn't do that. I think that was his specialty. He was able to help me with consolidating stuff together I think of that nature and moving. A female probably couldn't be able to help me with that particular piece of furniture. That was a good price. He was pretty responsive.
Description of Work: I used him. I had a home office and I moved some books from one room to another and just helped me to consolidate. I had a home office that I wanted all my stuff, so he actually helped me do that.

I would recommend Tillar Swalm for organizing any disorganized room you might have. We needed assistance getting our garage in shape. Tillar did a wonderful job sorting through the stuff, placing them in plastic bins and putting together a shelving unit for us. After that, it was easier for us to go through the bins and purge our items. Now we have a nice organized garage!

Tiller arrived right on time. He began working immediately. He completely organized my garage to perfection. It took 2 days for my overloaded, dirty garage to be completely clean and organized. Tiller put up shelves, organized all of my tools, gardening equipment, plus everything that had been stuffed or crammed in boxes, bags, old paint, many things I hadn't seen in years or though I had lost or didn't have. Everything has a place now and it is amazing. I plan on using Swalm's again in the future! You won't be disappointed. A++

When I called Mr. Swalms a few weeks ago, I specifically asked him if in addition to organzing if he provided cleaning and hauling away items. He said he did and came to my home to survey the areas and provide an estimate. I made it very clear what needed to be cleaned and hauled away, pointing out I had organized many items already but mainly needed help with the cleaning and removing items I wasn't capable of hauling. He said he would haul away all of those items and donate any usuable items to charity. However, after he arrived today he informed me he is not a "hauler" so did not complete the work. He said recently finished a large job and could use the day off. Not only was I extremely disappointed, it required me to take a day off from work which was a waste of my time

As one can tell from all of the previous positive reports I have received from Angie's List, my primary service is organizing. As a part of my organizing service, I do haul away recyclable items and take items for donation. Originally, the job the member presented me with was organizing and hauling of old materials. When I arrived at her home to do the work, the organizing had been done by others and the only work left was hauling. I advised her that she could call 1-800-GOT JUNK for the work she needed done and offered to give her the name and number for that service. I do attempt to satisfy all my clients with excellent work, obviously that is not possible 100% of the time. I am very happy that everyone else who has contacted me through Angie's List have been very satisfied customers.

I highly recommend him to others. He is a pleasant man, friendly, kind, punctual, and wants to please his customers.The job took about 1 1/2 days longer than he originally thought- but his first estimation came solely from 'pictures of our mess' that I had emailed to him. We also made some changes to our original ideas, which increased the time schedule. Not knowing what anyone else would have charged, I accepted the amount that he quoted me. Description of Work: We had a 3 car garage and 3 storage areas in our basement that needed to be combined, sorted through, and reorganized. In the basement we were making a storage area, an indoor workshop, and a small office. In the garage we were hoping for a workshop area in one stall, a place for bikes, lawnmower, etc. in another stall, and to park our car in the last stall. Tiller responded immediately to the email message that I sent to him. He was on a trip and called me from several states away to let me know that he got my message and to make arrangements to meet with me. He came over and gave us his suggestions and listened to the ideas that we had. He showed up on the day that he said he would and worked very hard helping my husband sort through the many boxes, stacks, piles, barrels, etc. that had gathered up over the years. Tiller built shelves, built racks to hang tools from, moved workbenches and cabinets, was very good about cleaning up as they went along. He helped my husband make decisions as whether to keep items, recycle items, or simply send things to the trash. He was patient with my husband- not too pushy. (My husband keeps every..........thing!) What Tiller, along with my husband, accomplished in about 4 1/2 days, was amazing! He was methodical and kept the 'ball rolling'. I am very pleased. I am a very organized, type "A" personality, and these areas were causing me so much frustration. Tiller came in and took care of about 30 years of anxiety.

Due to medical issues I was in desperate need of clean up and re-organization of my garage. Tiller provided significant expertise in handling the task at hand. He may not have been as satisfied with the total job as his standards are to do the best job possible for the client. I was more than pleased with his work. He charged a flat fee for his services, plus I covered the expense for recommended storage materials which he suggested to best handle the job. I intend to "invite" him to return to tackle other overwhelming jobs ahead... Like my basement. I would also like to comment on his professionalism; Tiller never was critical about the mess, but just went ahead quickly getting things organized. He was a pleasure to work with and I will be looking forward to having his services again. What a difference he has made. I totally appreciate his approach and the quality of his work.

Found the number on Angie's list and called on a Wednesday morning two weeks ago. Mr. Swalm was out of town but listened to what I needed and gave me a description of his service. We agreed that he would call me when he returned to town. He called a week later and made an appointment to come to my house the next day. He showed up on time and gave me his card my door. I showed him the spaces. He explained his rate is $300/day and the joub would take about a day. I was on my way out of town for the weeked but he agreed to call me the foloowing Monday. He called me Sunday night to make an appointment and we agreed that he would come out on Tuesday at 8:30 am. He was on time on Tuesday and began with the garage. After organizing the "stuff" into groups, he walked through the stuff with me and asked what should be kept. It was trash day in my neighborhood and he put some items at the curb for the truck. We then went to the same process with the deck. He stopped for lunch around noon and took a load to the dump. He returned about 90 minutes later and finished at about 3:00 pm. He broke down a few cardboard boxes for me to recycle and put some old paint into a box for me to take to the recycle center. I am very pleased with the job.
Description of Work: Mr. Swalm cleaned my garage and my deck and hauled away two truck loads of junk to the dump or to be donated. He took away old books, toys, tools, trash, a bar-b-que grill, flower pots, and garden tools.

Tillar was planning an out-of-town trip when I originally contacted him but he followed up with a phone call when he returned. He suggested ways to organize and we both worked to take everything out of the garage. He purchased shelves, containers, and hangers and installed them. He also removed/delivered the "donate" pile for me. He encouraged me to discard things that were useless, despite my ongoing compulsion to save everything because I might need it some time. If the price seems high, it included the purchase of 3 shelf sets, numerous containers and hangers. I was delighted with the end result and intend to hire Tillar to help me with my basement later this fall.

I called Mr. Swales on Monday. We agreed to meet at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. He arrived promptly and was shown the basement. He gave me a price and immediately went to work. By 5 p.m. he had completed the work. He is very pleasant and friendly. He put up with my dog all afternoon.

It went great from start to finish; wished I'd done it sooner! Tillar arrived when he said he would, he made helpful suggestions and he was a joy to work with. We're thrilled with the results.
Description of Work: Tillar organized our garage, delivered and installed shelving for the garage, and made numerous improvements in where we stored items. He completely organized all of my gardening tools all in one place, using wonderful new hooks. He also fixed several cabinet doors that would not open properly nor stay closed, by sawing off from the bottom of the doors then he rehung them so that we now have easy to use storage. He also hung two 8' long sun screens from our arbor and he installed a shade cloth over the arbor. He hauled away unwanted items that could not be donated. He left behind a clean, organized garage with a proper place for everything, and a patio we can enjoy throughout the summer.

The process went very well. Mr. Swalm was punctual and worked in a very professional manner. Now I have lots of free space and I know what is down in the basement and where everything is.
Description of Work: I had a large basement full of stuff left over from two prior residents of the house, our own stuff and construction materials that came from a major remodeling. Thinking about getting it organized was just overwhelming to me. Mr. Swalm worked approximately 40 hours. He sorted everything, bagged up junk and useless items, and boxed up numerous things that I agreed could go for donation. He took the junk to the curb for the weekly pickups and personally delivered the donated items.
