The member will contact you to coordinate fulfillment of this purchase. Tuesday, April 30, 2013 1:13 PM: Good afternoon Drew, I placed an order through Angie's List for 2 hours of carpentry work, and after I placed the order I realized the phone number listed for me is incorrect. I left you a message yesterday with the correct number, and here it is again...732.801.7211. The work I need done, is to repair the wood siding of my house. Squirrels have gnawed into the siding and left a hole. I would also like to have the fascia protected with metal sheathing. Please get in touch with me so that we can schedule time for the work to be done. Thanks, Dee Tuesday 30 Apr 2013 22:57:25: I will put you on the list and I will give you a call so I can come take a look at what you have. Drew Wednesday May 8, 2013: I arrived at the members home at 9AM and no one was home. I called the member at the number furnished, they answered the call and directed me to a dwelling behind the main house where there was an area of damaged siding above the garage. The call ended. I began looking at the damage area and notice that there was squirrel activity in and out of the siding hole. Because of the squirrel activity I called the member back and informed them that I would be unable to perform any repairs while the squirrel were active. The member said they would get it taken care of and contact me when the area was free of squirrels. Also during this conversation I inform the member that the siding is an odd pattern of Fir siding that may or may not be available and the options of patching and complete replacement. Friday, May 10, 2013 8:06 PM: Hi Drew, There's been no squirrel activity for a week, which for me is a window of opportunity. Would you please schedule the work to be done as soon as you can... hopefully right away. Please let me know. Thanks! (removed member name) ***Please note: May 8 to may 10 is not a week as stated above.*** I respond Friday 10 May 2013 23:48:41 Did they catch any? The members response Saturday, May 11, 2013 8:03 AM was: No squirrels were trapped, and they are no longer in the hole. Thanks Tue 5/14/2013 8:39 AM: Good morning Drew If you are able to find cedar panel I would like to have it replaced. If not, then patched. How much more is the cedar panel replacement? Thanks After several hours on the siding search I respond on May 16, 2013, at 10:37 AM: I found the panel and it is in stock. I may need 2 sheets and it is approx $88 per sheet. The member responded Thursday 5/16/2013 11:50 AM: Hi Drew, so I'm clear..., would the patch job require one panel and the replacement 2 panels? Would either option result in about 2 hours of work? I'm trying to figure the budget for this. Thanks My Response Thursday 16 May 2013 15:59:50: The most inexpensive way I can patch it is to make it look like a access panel or slap a wide piece of exterior grade something over the hole. That can be accomplished in 2 -3 hours. If I splice the sheet (cut it horizontally) and flash the splice, or if I replace the sheet or sheets it will take two people for the install. The fir panel comes from a lumber yard, it’s out of the way, I have to wait in line and I will charge you whatever time is involved to pick it up. It may take only one panel, but it may take two and it depends on where the vertical seam is located. Combined time will likely be 2-3 hours per man. If you want to order the panel yourself it is called Fir Reversed Board & Butt. It comes in sheets of 5/8x4x8 and 5/8x4x9 and they will deliver it. Sometime later the member called me and informed me they could not afford to do the work at the present time and would call back when they were in a position to have the work completed. At that time I offered to refund their purchase and they declined stating that they could not get anyone from Angies List to service Parkville. The next time the member contacted me was nearly 2 months later on July 8, 2013 with this email: Hi Drew Please give me an estimate on what it would cost for the additional man for 2-3 hours. I will order the board myself and would like to know how many pieces you think I will need, and the name of the lumber yard you are referring to that is 'out of the way'. Thanks My response Monday 8 Jul 2013 14:05:48 Though the repair may only need one sheet, I would order (2) sheets just in case. Schutte Lumber has it and McCray may have it.Per the coupon: $63.20 for any additional hours if needed with the purchase of this offer. So any time beyond 2 hours is billed at $63.20 per man hour.At present my worked schedule booked through September. Drew The member next emailed me on Thursday 7/11/2013 2:15 PM with the following: Hi Drew I purchased 2 of the 5/8x4x9 panels. Please schedule the work ASAP. Thanks Then on Wednesday 7/24/2013 7:28 AM the member emailed me the following: Hi Drew, I need to have the panels delivered. At what point will you know if 1 or 2 are needed? There's a restocking charge for any returns so it would be best to pinpoint 'where the vertical seam is' prior to taking delivery of the panel. Please schedule the work. Thanks (removed member name) I responded to the member Wednesday, 24 Jul 2013 12:39:40 with the following: End of August probably. The member next made contact on Wed 8/21/2013 11:15 AM: Hi Drew, As we are nearing the end of August, please provide me with a update with regards to timing. As I'd mentioned previously, the panel has to be delivered. Thanks On Wed 8/21/2013 3:44 PM I responded as follows: I would have the panels delivered next week. I have 2 jobs in front of you and will try to be there on the 29. If that doesn’t work, it will be the following week on the 5th. On Wednesday 8/28/2013 5:02 PM I confirmed the date we would perform work: (removed member name), My window install is a taking a bit longer than anticipated, so we will are planning to be at your house 9/3 around 9 AM. Drew We arrived at the members home on 9/3/2013 around 9AM and completed the siding replacement by 11:00AM. We show the customer the completed work and the member was quite pleased. The member then inquired as to what additional expense they owed. I informed the member it would be around $40 for materials and I would send them a bill for the amount. At that time the member said that was fair. After that the member requested we look at some other projects and we then spent another hour walking around with the member discussing the projects. And then we left. The expedience at which this was accomplished is due to ‘The $30 Blade’ that has drawn this complaint. It should be noted that without ‘The Blade’ the job would have taken longer (as mentioned in my Thursday May 16, 2013 response) which would have equated to additional materials. Without ‘The Blade’ we would have required partial removal, and possibly replacement of the soffit, replacement of trim and 3-4 additional man hours at $63.20 per man. Other considerations towards the frivolity of this complaint: The coupon was for 1 trip with up to 2 consecutive hours of work. I showed up and could not perform the work because of squirrels. Then the work was postponed because of the members financial situation. Despite that I made 2 trips and drove approximate 130 miles combined and burned $60 worth of fuel. Plus 3-4 hours of time involved getting to and from there twice. I spent 2-3 hours searching for the unique siding required for the job. I gave the member all the information they needed to purchase the siding themselves. I did all that and the member believes they have been taken advantage of because I charged them for a $28 dollar blade that I ruined on nails and siding to save the member $100’s of dollars. As for the Trash complaint, here is what transpired: From the Member Saturday, September 07, 2013 6:58 PM: Oh. I didn't know I bought a blade. You should have left it here since I purchased it My response Sat, 7 Sep 2013 19:24:45: If I still have the bag of trash I can mail it to you The ‘It’ I was referring to was ‘The Blade’ not the entire bag of trash. I did find the bag of trash, the blade in question was found , and as I promised it is in transit via USPS to the member. And thanks to this customer I will no longer consider servicing the Parkville area.
