JOHN BLOCK DECK CONTRACTOR

Description of Work: We contacted John Block to see about replacing our deck which was quite worn and somewhat unstable. We made an appointment to meet and discuss the job and John was right on time. John explained that once he started a job he completed the job before starting a new one. The work started as planned and was completed in 4 days. The job was quality workmanship and we would recommend John for any deck construction needs.

Description of Work: Removed old deck and replaced with a 2-foot wider and much more sturdier deck with Azek flooring and steps for maintenance free use. John knows his stuff. He worked with us to get a better price by using treated lumber for the railngs instead of aluminum or plastic. Also installed two small corner shelves per my request using the Azek material. I had him extend three of the railing posts to a 6"-8" height for us to hang flowers and bird feeders. He warned me that the higher railing posts will probably twist as they dry over time. I already knew that but I accepted it.

Description of Work: Replaced ~12 x 22 surface, facia and steps with AZEK and rails with American aluminum railing system. Added small amount of new deck to fill in sharp corner. It's beautiful and we expect it to be maintenance free! The site was always clean when we arrived home. Job completed under 2 weeks - would have been less without downpour rains. Took a little longer than would with other contractors which have crews. John worked on his own or with his son. The reason we chose John was because of the quality of jobs we saw when we were deciding and we liked that he is a skilled carpentar with lots of experience building decks. He's the one who does the work so we felt very comfortable not being home while he worked. He's done far more elaborate decks than ours but still gave focused attention to ours and communicated well before and during the job. The only drawback is that we put a downpayment in July and the job started 3rd week in October. But we were in no hurry and it was certainly worth the wait!

Description of Work: I contacted John once, by phone, he gave me a verbal estimate, based on square footage, but at the time John was very busy and stated that he would not be able to schedule my work for approx. two months. I needed to have the work done sooner. John was very helpful and friendly. Would contact again.
