John Block Deck Contractor did a wonderful job. Everything looked great. He did a really nice job.

We are very happy with our choice of John to build our deck. His work is fantastic and he obviously takes a great deal of pride in it. The deck is exactly as we agreed on. To provide an example of how precise he is in his work: He took the time to explain to me why he needed to move two of the footers. Total difference in the location: 4 inches! He was very friendly and open during the work and communicated in detail about each step and what we could expect. I was concerned that I would have to keep my dogs away from the work site in the evening due to debris but I have been very pleasantly surprised with how clean he keeps the job site. No trash or hazards of any kind.

He sat down and drew a plan for us and figured out what would work.

We requested a quote for a deck from several contractors on Angie's List. John Block was the first to respond. He came over to our home, performed a needs assessment with us, and came up with a creative idea for a deck. His prices are a little on the higher end, but he is very professional and has some very creative ideas. Would love to work with him in the future.

John was great to work with, suggested several good options and was very patient as we made our decisions. His workmanship was wonderful and he kept the work site very tidy. We especially appreciated how he handled the building permit process. I wish he did other carpentry work - I'd use him again in a second.

The deck is absolutely beautiful. The finished product exceeded our expectations! John is a very talented man. His work is exceptional and other workman who have since come to our house have commented on the exquisite workmanship of the deck. Throughout the entire project, he consistently communicated with us and explained everything he was doing. He (and his son Josh) were professional and a joy to work with. We would highly recommend John.

John was very professional starting with our initial consultation through the design/build process. He started when he said he would, and only worked on our job until it was complete. He offered helpful suggestions from past experiences to maximize our view and keep us within budget. He was competitively priced and provided excellent craftsmanship. The deck and the dock are beautiful and have exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend John Block Deck Contractor.

In 2008 the deck was damaged... almost totally... during the windstorm. A chimney was knocked or blown down... right on the deck. John rebuilt the deck and did a typically great job!!

I usually don't write reviews. I figure you pay a person to do a good job and do what they say they are going to do. John Block was so exceptional that I felt like I had to submit a review. He was very detailed in his initial visit to give an estimate. We had gotten other estimates and his was the most reasonable. He described exactly what he was going to do and how he was going to do it. He removed a 142 square foot concrete patio and replaced it with an Azek deck. He also made suggestions and had plenty of samples. From the time we accepted the estimate to the time he started was a matter of a couple of months, which he told us it would be. He is at the particular job he's on and finishes it before he moves on to the next one. That whole time he kept in touch and let me know what was going on. When it came time to do ours he was here when he said he would be and did exactly what he said he would do and did it in a very efficient amd timely manner.I hav enot seen and better work. I couldn't be happier with the results. I would very much recommend him to anyone.

John showed up within a week of promised date, weather had delayed him. He worked continuously and did not stop until the job was completed. We chose the hardwood Massaranduba, it is very hard, and durable. One issue with the wood though is that John told us that it would look dark and "reddish" after putting on a special oil, which cost $50 a gallon. We put on 2 1/2 gallons the first year, and almost 2 this year and it does not look as good as we had expected. We also notice that it "scratches" if you move something on it. This is not impacting the strength of the deck, and damage is just superficial. On balance I think we made the correct decision using the hardwood, but John did not really inform us of the down-side. His work was outstanding, we replaced our whole deck and under-structure. John was a pleasure to work with.

Their quote was a little high. I will not be using them.

John designed a lovely deck. He was responsive to our concerns and we are happy with the result.

He came and surveyed the damage,,, gave me and estimate which I passed to my insurance adjuster. The the adjuster felt he was reasonable for what was needed. John made arrangements to come and take the deck apart , haul the broken pieces away, and rebuild. The site was left clean and uncluttered.

It went without a hitch! I couldn't imagine a better experience. We saw John, first, at the Home Show in the Duke Center. We gave him a call and he came over to go over our plans and provide an estimate. We took estimates from 3 other Contractors and settled on John as he seem so "together" and professional. We signed on in the Spring and the date on his busy Calendar put us out into October. He showed up one morning with his assistant, Jeremy, and set right to work. The old deck came down and he carted it all away in his pickup. He took care of the Soil Inspections, and poured the new footings. We continued to discuss some options as the Deck came together and he was very easy to work with. We made some changes to our original design that added to the functionality of the Deck - and saved us some money, to boot! The construction went well and the new Deck is really well built and GORGEOUS!!! We couldn't be happier with our choice of Contractor for the project. He's not the cheapest - but his work is outstanding!

I met John Block at the Home and Garden Show and scheduled an appointment. A few weeks later, he came to my home to look at the current deck and surrounding property. At this appointment, which was about 2-3 hours, he sketched out a few different designs and when we agreed on one, he was able to give me a bid. After that, he took me to a few other homes so that I could look at his work. The job went great and was right on budget with one exception. I decided after the job had begun to have an additional staircase added on to one side of the deck. I paid a bit extra for that, but it was well worth it.
