I had to call him after three weeks. I gave some of my list to his helper over the phone. I called back in a couple of days then the helper gave me a date he would come. He had almost no equipment to work with, he couldn't understand the carbon monoxide detector so he went to Lowes to buy a new one (He wouldn't give me the receipt) patched the hole in the bathroom but didn't have the tool to make it match the rest of ceiling. Then he charged me $95.00 for the carbon monoxide detector he bought and supplies he used (?) He did a good job on the bookcase shelf and on the vent. Used a lot of the time at Lowes then still had trouble installing the one he bought. I have used 3 handymen from Angies list and will not try one again.
Description of Work: need batteries put in smoke alarms a carbon monoxide detector which I had purchased in where the smoke alarm was. Bookcase shelf repaired. Patch a hole in bathroom ceiling. fix vent in furnace room. several other small jobs he did not get too.

Shelf, door knobs & kick plate all done well. I asked about future work (to be given estamites for) 1 screen replacement & installation of laminate floor. Which he took measurements. I explained I was putting the house up for sale as soon as floor was put in. Then he went to replace switch (I provided) He didn't turn off electricity & the was a noise (pop). Things didn't go well after that. He said the outlet for the disposal didn't register the right voltage. He said he had to check out concerning the disposal problem (voltage of outlet). The deal was for 3 hrs for $95. I had to go to work & he was there a 1:2 hr extra. I asked how he wanted to take care of the extra time. And he said we'll take care of that when he came back. He left the disposal not working & would get a replacement for the switch, ( left wires exposed) get the replacement screen & give estimate on floor when he returned. Now over 3 1/2 wks & no word from him. I sent email & still no word from him.
Description of Work: New doorknobs installed, shelf put up over dryer, kick plate on screen door screwed in and switch for garbage garbage disposal replaced

Poor communications - after multiple attempts to schedule I was ready to cancel, but they called that day to schedule - one of the items I needed help with was too big for just me, so I stayed with them. Unfortunately, I wanted to have these items ready for a party and due to their weeks of no contact, the installation was a week late. Summary - 3 items hung: 2 were measured incorrectly - largest one is too big to move, so I'll live with it - 2nd one was off by 1 foot (out of a 4 foot total opening) - I'll have to move on my own. 3rd item not secure as holes were drilled too large for the provided anchors - I'll move that too. Overall, I needed some labor, another pair of hands, which is what I got for my purchase.

I bought the "Big Deal" $95 for 3 hours of handyman service the beginning of October. It took a while to hear back from them at first to work on scheduling, but I just thought that was because so many had purchased the deal. There were emails, texts, and phone calls to try and arrange a time for Richard to come out and look at my door to see if he could fix it. He told me they had a lot of jobs and he had other people doing the work due to work restrictions he had, so I was trying to be patient. When we met in mid October I was told they could fix the door and would hear back that evening from the person who would fix it, but I did not. I had not heard anything after a week so I sent a text, still no response. Sent an email saying I just wanted my money back and no response, so I contacted Angie's List to get a refund. Thankfully they were able to get my money back. I would not recommend this company to anyone. There was never any contact with this company since Richard came out to my house. I have purchased several deals and never had to contact Angie's List before, but thankfully they were able to get my money back or else I would probably still have a broken door and be out $95.

Had to call 2 or 3 times in an effort to schedule work (each time my call went to voicemail, even though calls were made during normal business hours. Just as I was ready to give up on this service provider, they finally called me back. Service was scheduled about a week later, starting at 9:00 a.m. When the day of the scheduled service arrived, no one appeared. I received no call or notification that they would need to reschedule. The job was something I wanted to check off of my "to do" list soon, so it turned out to be a waste of about three weeks (plus two hours awaiting their expected arrival). Rather than call again and waste more time I asked for a refund of my voucher, which AL promptly provided. Hoosier Carpenter might do nice work but you'll need some luck (and a lot of patience) getting them to your home to do it!

The process went very well. Was overall pleased with the service; however, the siding to which they were to fix separated from the attached sheathing two months later due to wind.
Description of Work: Repaired siding. Replaced outdoor floodlights and repaired vinyl siding that had unattached to the house.

Sent availability no reply till Angies List associate called company. Gentelman showed up without ladder tall enough to reach cathedral ceilings to change smoke detector batteries. This info was put in scope of work sent to him. Took two meetings to complete work. Gentelman took personal phone call during our conversation without excusing himself from our conversation. There was no window of time given. waited all day for 1 hr of work.

On Sept. 30 I purchased a handyman special offering three hours of service for $95.00. Nearly two weeks passed until I heard from Richard at Hoosier Carpenter via email on Oct. 11 to schedule service. The email stated he was making a second attempt to contact me (no record of previous contact on my end; this was the first attempt I received). We talked live the next day (Oct. 12) and due to his schedule and my family vacation the following week agreed to talk the week of Oct. 24 to schedule a date for the ceiling fan installation. At the close of this conversation he assured me there would be no problem scheduling and no reason for me to schedule time before we ended our call. Long story short, beginning on Monday, Oct. 24, I called his cell phone and left vm two times, called his office one time (got disconnected), and, last, sent a follow-up email requesting the service on Friday, Oct. 28. Today is Nov. 1 and I have yet to hear from Richard to schedule the service I paid for or see him or any other rep from his company at my house to fulfill their end of the contract. Way too much work on my end to schedule this work. Now I need to figure out how to get my money back.

Not well. Communication is a big problem. Owner doesn't answer phone calls, emails or texts. He only responded when I asked for a refund. As for the work, only the faucet was completed in 4 hours and the drain was left unattached. Def would not use again and would not recommend.

Last Sunday, I started a small job myself and as I got into it it quickly turned into more than I had bargained for. So I turned to Angie's List to find someone to complete the whole job. Hoosier Carpenter was one of the only companies with Sunday hours, and Rich sent Don out within an hour of my call. The work was professional, efficient, and high quality. I will definitely use them again. I could not be more pleased.

Upon my return from an out-of-state conference, I discovered that an approximate 5 foot diameter of ceiling plaster had let go and fallen. Our house, dated to approximately 1926, has had years of poor maintenance and "self-help" of less than sterling quality as we have discovered as things need to be repaired or replaced. The ceiling plaster was greatly textured resulting in little stalactites that were a nuisance to try to keep clean. Richard Russell, owner of Hoosier Carpenter, explained that once the plaster's integrity is broached, it needed to all come down or other weakened spots might let go. They found upon removing the rest of the old plaster that it was 2-3 and sometimes 4 inches thick resulting in a great weight. The crew came in and removed all the old plaster down to the lathes, then installed new sheetrock and painted with nice white paint. Richard took the time to look over the plaster in the rest of the house so that they could add a texture that wouldn't look radically different from other rooms. They tried to touch up the seam with the wall, but I no longer had any paint that matched. The guys even were gracious enough to move out and then back in, the two pieces of furniture that were too heavy for my husband and me to move. Although the plaster dust was pervasive, they tried diligently to keep from tracking it throughout the house. They cleaned up all the old plaster and carted the trash barrels out to the curb for us since they were so heavy. Richard had estimated the task would take a day and a half, but they were finished in about 6 hours. Throughout the day the crew was professional, personable, and responsible.
Description of Work: Removed remainder of old ceiling plaster then installed sheetrock and painted and textured ceiling.

He took the old door out, replaced it, and had to paint it since it came in white. He waited for it to dry as another coat needed to be done. While waiting, he did the knobs and deadbolts on the rest of the house. The entire job took a morning, about three hours. He did the work by himself and everything went fine. I am going to hire him to put a cabinet in my utility room. He came out and wrote up the cost, I paid 50% upfront and he returned the next day to do the job.
Description of Work: Richard replaced the insulated door and door jam between my garage and utility room. He also replaced all the doorknobs and deadbolts on my doors and rekeyed them.

HE HAD TO COME TWICE TO DO THIS JOB. HE DID NOT REINSTALL BASEBOARDS OR SHOWER CURTAIN. HE LEFT ALL KINDS OF DUST AND DRYWALL MUD ON NEW SHOWER, TOILET, AND FLOOR BOTH TIMES HE WAS OUT. HE CAME RECOMMENDED BY THE PLUMBER I USED TO INSTALL SHOWER, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM FOR ANY DRYWALL WORK AND WOULD PROBABLY NOT RECOMMEND HIM FOR ANYTHING LOOKING AT HIS WORK. I WILL NOW HAVE TO FIND SOMEONE TO COMPLETE THE BATHROOM!
