We worked with Tim and Jane Frodge (owners) and they were great to work with. We had used Tooling Around to do some interior painting projects. After getting a couple of other estimates for our master bathroom remodel project, we decided to ask Tim for an estimate. It was by far the most reasonable and it was also very clear how much each component to the project would cost. Labor and material costs were broken out separately and there were no hidden fees or markups. We felt more comfortable because we knew exactly what we would be getting and that it was a good price. Once they began the work, they were very communicative about their schedule. They used no subcontractors. They arrived very promptly at 7:45 every morning and stayed for a full day of work. They were also very sensitive to the fact that my wife was almost 9 months pregnant and tried to minimize the noise and mess. We will use them again for future projects and would recommend them to others. Especially if you want a family owned and operated contractor that takes pride in the quality of their work.
Description of Work: The project involved removing a bath tub, replumbing and installing a ceramic tile shower. Removing an old bathroom vanity/counter and installing a new vanity with granite countertop. Installing ceramic tile on the floor. And painting the bathroom.

Tim and John arrived when they said they would - about 7:45 A.M. and worked tirelessly all day (and it was ho!t) and cleaned up and hauled away all of the refuse.Tim estimated it would take them a full day and he was exactly right. We were very pleased with the work done. We've done business with Tim for several years and will continue to do so.

I had three different companies come out and they were one of them. By the time they finally got back to me with a quote, another company had given me a quote and I selected them and had them finish the job for me. I don't remember the quote. They were not pushy at all. The guy was very nice and very polite. I guess he must have been very busy or something and he must not have needed the work because it really took a long time for him to get back to me. I would not use the company again for another quote.
Description of Work: Tooling Around LLC came out to give me a quote for fixing the roof. They came out and looked at the roof and it was several weeks later, they still hadn't given me a quote so I used someone else. They came in August or September to look at the roof and prepare a quote.

We did drop the ball on this one. I went to look at, determined that it was a job that my Son would do and had him go look at as well and than we estimated. One, I should of told the owner we were still working on and two, I should of ask if he was in a hurry to get the job done. I try to estimate the best cost for the customer and to make sure we can handle the job. Jobs are important, but pricing them correctly and doing them right is more important. Tim frodge

Very prompt response to my inquiry, sent job proposal and estimate by email, did all the work within 1 week of contact and charged $400 less than the estimate because the work did not warrant as much as the estimate noted. Very rare to see someone do a good job so honestly. Thanks Tim!
Description of Work: Tim came in and made many repairs that were needed after we sold our home to satisfy a home inspection report. They came on short notice, 3 gentlemen worked all day to complete all the tasks necessary including electrical work, drywall, crawl space work (reinforcing joists, fixing sump pump, etc).

I submitted a lot of questions to them prior to their visit via multiple emails. The response time was excellent, but not all my questions were answered. The best part of Tooling Around was that they customized their services to fit my needs and only performed the services that were necessary. If something wasn't they let me know. There are a couple of issues that I had. One, for repairing the leaning mailbox, I asked them to restake the mailbox post completely and that it probably need concrete to stabilize it. Their solution was to place wood wedges at the bottom of the post. I can already tell this is a temporary solution and that the mailbox will again be leaning in the future. The guy said the mailbox post needed to be completely replaced, but I don't see any problems with it. So if there really is an issue and it needs to be replaced, it wasn't communicated well. The second issue I had is that the doorbells stopped working sometime during their work on the house. I don't know what went wrong, as they had been working on a variety of things. This could be unrelated, but during the GFCI installation, they took a long time to figure out the fuse box (testing each fuse) including why the kitchen electricity was out for some time. Regardless, the doorbells were working when they arrived, and weren't when they left. When I first brought this to their attention, the main guy blew me off. The second time, he refused to even acknowledge that it could have been their fault, saying that it was probably "an old button that just went out." He said that they would stop by to "look at and advise," but they have not done so yet. This experience leaves me feeling that they tend cut corners. Of course some of it is justifiable, and I probably would have appreciated it more had there been no issues. I gave them a "C" because in the end, I thought their overall work and communication was just average.
Description of Work: Tooling Around came in for several 'odds and ends' repairs for the house we just purchased. Their services performed were a part of the closing costs incurred by the seller. Services included: installing GFCI outlets, installing electrical for sump pumps in crawl space, replacing rotten wood and painting where needed around windows, securing support beam for front porch, fix leaning mailbox, and repairing mortar on the chimney.

We reviewed the work that was scheduled as per the estimate, I was able to cut out $300.00 in repairs that I felt did not need completed. We did not do some gutter work do to the gutters being in such bad shape (part of the $300.00 deduction) I perposaly lowered other parts of the job cost to reduce her over all bill so that she could hire a gutter person to replace the gutters. The mail box needed a new post, I told her that and I told her that I would stake it up to get her by, at NO charge!! The door bell is totally unrelated, I did tell her I would stop by when I was in the area and look at, I did stop by and 2 times, and no one was home. We talked and I told her I was very busy and I would call first when I am in the area again. I was acused not not doing some other work, but as customer wrote me back that she was mistaken. I still plan to stop over and look at the door bell. I take care of my customers and mt record shows that. Tim Frodge

We were very unhappy with final results and his attitudes toward us as we complained about his inconsistencies. He was very difficult to contact, not returning cell phone calls and e-mails. UPDATE 7/23/2010 To answer Tooling Around's response, many of his "I just could not please this owner" statements are false. Ex. An estimate was given on painting the basement ceiling. Tim painted half of the ceiling and said the other part didn't count because it wasn't part of the ceiling. To us a basement ceiling means the whole ceiling and not just 1/2. Work was contracted in Sept. and completed just before Christmas. There were plenty of beautiful days to complete outside work. The paint on the front door was put on in such terrible conditions it is already peeling off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: Tim gave estimate for various repairs, inside ceiling repair and painting; repair and paint outside front door; inside painting, and several more home projects. We were promised work would take approx. 3 days. He was very inconsistent with time spent here, would e-mail (I'll be there tomorrow) and at noon, when he had not arrive claimed he had e-mailed us at 6:00 am saying he would not show. Then we wouldn't hear from him for another two weeks. In Oct. he month he spent 1 1/2 days, other repairs took another 2 months as he would show up for a few hours then disappear. Work was good when he took his time, but spent a lot of time hurrying resulting in very unsatisfactory work!! Example, basement ceiling painting - painted around recessed ceiling lights, not under, leaving about 4" of exposed dirty ceiling. Work began in Oct. and finally ended in Dec.

All inside work was completed in a full day and one half. The painting of basement ceiling was to be 1 coat, they felt like it did not cover, we installed second coat at no change. The basement estaimte was for the main area, they felt like we should of did another area as well, so we did this on another day, at no change. The exterior painting could not be done do to weather, we did resculed a number of times and we di this by e-mail, as I do all my business. We ended up doing the repair work on the door and painting the frame (as I planned and estimated) They felt the door should of been painted as well and than they wanted a seperate color (two coats ) two more trips. We did this part at no charge. After all the no charges and unabilty to please customer on timing.. I asked customer to not call me to complete window repairs in the spring. My record show clearly that I am customer frist focused and I do every thing I can to try to please customers, some customers just can not be pleased and this unforchanitly was one. Tim Frodge

We needed to prep our old house for sale in a hurry. Tim came over, went through our list of jobs with us, made recommendations for paint, tile, and stain, and even pointed out a couple jobs which we would be better off doing ourselves. A few days later, Tim, Jane, and a couple employees showed up and went through the house like a whirlwind. They are fast, clean, and talented. Within three days, our whole list was done, and they had cleaned up very well. We couldn't believe that much work was done for so little cost. It would have taken us weeks to accomplish the same work. Completely satisfied, we are considering Tim and company for future work at our new house, including finishing the basement.

Great! I called, and this is the hardest part with this company (that is a family owned...wife and two sons do work with him, too)...getting someone to call you back. They take on a lot of work and hardly ever say no! They came and finished the project in one day. I am very comfortable leaving them alone in my house (or being home alone with any of the Frodges and my kids), so he performed the work while I was gone. The work was great, my shower has not leaked since!
Description of Work: This time around, they re-caulked and re-grouted a leaky shower, and repaired damaged dry-wall.
They are very reasonably priced. The charge is $50.00 per hour.
Description of Work: Josh Froge installed ceiling fans (18 ft. ceiling), hung curtain rods, and granite countertops, hung pictures, installed knobs on kitchen cabinets, peat moss in my back yard, installed screened in front door.

These guys are fantastic, they come on time and do a great job. I will never use any other handyman but Tim and his company in the future. Tim is reliable, and is truly a professional at what he does. He goes the extra mile in everything he does, and has helped us out with other little repairs as well, at short notice. Tooling around comes highly recommended and I will refer all my friends to Tim and his company.
Description of Work: All the countertops were removed in the kitchen and disposed of, plumbing, as well as a sink and garbage disposal removed and disposed of. A new garbage disposal was installed as well as new faucets etc. Tim then came to install a 30 sq foot backsplash above the new countertops. This included an intricate pattern above the cook-top with accent tiles. There were a few accent tiles left and Tim came up with a nice design idea to enhance the area above the faucet as well. Which he completed. He came back the next day to grout and seal the backsplash.

It went great. When we initially had them out for the estimate, they gave great advice and suggested this work over replacing the entire chimney. They showed up as scheduled, did a great job on their work, and cleaned up after themselves.
Description of Work: Our chimney had lost it caulking and developed some cracks in the top over the years. This had allowed water to get in and when it got cold, freeze, expand and caused a few of the bricks to flake off a little bit. They removed all the old caulking, replaced it and then sealed the chimney with some paint.

Tim came out and provided an estimate since it was hard to tell if the furnace would need to be removed to get drywall behind it. We scheduled a day for the repairs. He was on time, completed the repairs in a prompt and efficient manner. He cleaned up after the projects. He provided documentation for my closing that the repairs were done. Was very pleased. Was an easy and efficient way for me to get the repairs done for closing.

The entire experience was excellent. They provided us with many suggestions to make our space fit our needs. The price was very reasonable, they were reliable, they were flexible, and their workmanship was outstanding! It was clear to us throughout the project that their only goal was to have a satisfied customer in the end. Our basement project turned out to be exactly what we wanted! We would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: We hired Tooling Around to finish our basement. They added extensive lighting (can lights, sconces, pendant lights, and under-cabinet lights), plumbing for the bar area with cabinets, a large counter, ceramic tile, a wall unit for our home entertainment system, and storage space. They did all the painting, finishing, and trim work.
Tim has been one of the best contractors I have ever worked with! He is very professional and a great communicator. He gave us an initial schedule of what he planed to do on what day and he called after the first day just to give me an update on what was done that day! He kept the place very clean and organized after the end of every work day which was greatly appreciated. The workmanship was very good and I will use him again on any project in the future and would highly recommend him.
Description of Work: I hired Tim to convert a bonus room into a bedroom, and remove a drop ceiling and put in a regular drywall ceiling. He also did all the trim work, added some can lights, electrical outlets and electrical switches and a ceiling fan rough in.
