Detached, uncaring, and pricy service.
Description of Work: Summers repaired a leaky shower head by replacing the seats and springs. During the service call the technician seemed to be in a rush (call lasted less than 20 min.), and he did not take the time to run the shower after replacing the parts to see if it was still leaking. The total bill was $213 but I had a $30 coupon so we paid $183. Later we did research on line and discovered the parts were only $7.00 total so Summers charged me $124 for 20 min. of labor and parts plus $89 for the trip charge! Over time we noticed that it was still dripping off and on, but not as bad as it was previously. However, the day after Summers came out the rain shower head began dripping in the same shower (We have 2 shower heads in one shower stall- a regular shower head and a rain shower head). We had a lot of family health issues, so we didn't call back to complain until the end of April. Summers said they would send someone to check it out. They sent the same technician that came in January. Again, he appeared in a hurry and uncaring. He just told me to watch the drip and let them know if it gets worse. I definitely felt like we were getting the brush off and they did not care about solving the problem. I called a different plumbing company who definitely did care about helping me. The owner spent almost an hour on the phone trying to diagnose our problem. Then one of his plumbers came and solved the problem (nothing is dripping now), plus they charged us $100 less than Summers. Summers really let us down and we will never use them again.

Our heat pump/AC went out last week and I called Summers to take a look. From the time of my initial contact to the time Dave arrived at my house was less than two hours. He was able to quickly diagnose my situation and deliver the bad news. I had options, none of them good or cheap. I was expecting that to be the answer. (We have babied this heat pump along for the last five years and I was pretty sure it was at the end of its rope.) Anyway, I feel the price we paid for a new basic furnace/heat pump was a competitive price. Our good friend who is also in this business with another company looked into everything after the process was finished and thought everything, including price, was done correctly and right on target. I had called Summers on Friday and they installed our new system Saturday morning. Took about 3-4 hours in total. The installers, Brandon and Wes, were extremely professional. We are very pleased with their customer service, responsiveness, compassion for the financial burden of the situation, professionalism in explaining our options, warranty, maintenance agreements, and use and maintainence of the equipment itself. Overall, our experience with Summers could not have been better! Highly recommended!!
Description of Work: Diagnosed the issue with our heat pump and recommended and gave us options to consider. We chose an entirely new system, furnace and heat pump, which was installed the following day.

We are extremely satisfied with this service.
Description of Work: Summers is opening a new office in the Brownsburg area and sent out a letter stating that they would do an A/C check-up and service for $59 plus 2 pounds of freon for free if needed. Their home office is in Noblesville, but this was an introductory offer to gain some customer loyalty in their new service area (Hendricks County and surrounding locales). Alan arrived on time and did the most thorough A/C inspection and service call I have ever had. He took off the compressor top and cleaned out the debris on the inside. He hosed down the cooling coil on the outside unit. He checked temperature differentials. The system was slightly low on freon, so he added one pound (no charge) and the temperature differential went from 11 degrees to 21 degrees. He was very polite and professional in his approach to us. Our system is 20 years old, and he said we got very good service from that unit since most units have a 14 - 17 year life. We will definitely have Alan do our furnace inspection this fall. If Alan is typical of Summers' service technicians, you won't go wrong using their service.

We used Summers at our last servicing and had a great experience. We called them again. I was thinking of using one of the competitors since we had four VALPAK coupons for Free Service calls. Summers matched the competitors coupon. The serviceman came out the same day. He worked on the furnace no more than 25 minutes. He found the problem, made a minor repair and put it back together. Problem fixed. Good experience.

Our furnace wasn't working. We called Summers and scheduled an appointment. The tech showed up on time and was professional, but said that we needed a new furnace, our other one was "on its last legs", rusted out at the bottom and the best option was to replace it. This furnace was a top of the line Trane unit and only 9 years old, so you can imagine my surprise. When I questioned this, the tech said that that's about how long furnaces last these days. Didn't seem right to me. When I said we can't possibly afford (sat at kitchen table and talked about having kids in college, etc.) he said that he could replace the circuit board, but it would only be a temporary fix. We went ahead with this. He then said that our air conditioning unit needed replacing as well. Right. This week, our furnace stopped working again. I had another company come look and they said that Summers had put a circuit board on that wasn't a Trane and didn't belong on our furnace. It was wired wrong and this could be our problem. He said the rest of the furnace is in fine shape - no need to replace. He shared that Summers techs are paid on commission, so if they do a small repair, they get a small commission. If they replace the unit, they get a large commission. Now I get it. The contractors they hire are out to get as much money as they can from you - even if it means lying, putting in cheap parts, etc.....shame on Summers. I will share this knowledge with everyone I know - including Angie's list.

Response from Summers Plumbing Heating & Cooling - Noblesville
At Summers we always want our customers to be satisified with the work we perform. We do not pay our technicians commissions on repairing equipment. We immediately followed up with the customer after seeing this complaint. After talking with the member, he informed us it had been 11 months since we replaced the inducer and circuirt board. He also informed us, his house and his neighbor had a power surge the night before it failed this time. Unfortunately we cannot control power surges but we would of been more than happy to come out at no charge to look at the system.

This is a continuing service plan that I prepay each year. They are on time, thorough, and complete in their check-ups, repairs and installations. Their prices are usually the best. Dustin took the time to tell me what was going on, what issues there were if any, and what I might consider for the future as far as replacements etal.
Description of Work: This was a pre-season air conditioning service visit. It was part of my annual service program with them for heating, A/C and plumbing. Dustin checked the coils in the furnace plus the outside unit. He wrote a detailed report and explained what we had for this year including estimated life-cycle of what we had and options / alternatives in the future.

I had Summer's Plumbing Heating and Cooling come out on 3/21 because the air conditioner had started tripping the circuit breaker. I had them try a quick fix by replacing the condenser fan motor. That lasted only about a day so I had them back the next day to talk about air conditioner replacement. Since the furnace was about the same age and in the past they tended to wear out around the same time, I had them work up an estimate for both. They came out the following Saturday morning at the scheduled time to do the installs. I should note they did give us a courtesy call 15 minutes before arrival to say they were on their way. The technicians were very professional yet very courteous allowing me to interrupt with questions and even waiting while we clean behind the old furnace once it was removed. I am really impressed that these techs/installers went the extra distance by sealing the area below the ducts that run through the concrete slab from the ground below. They took the time to fashioning a plate from the galvanized metal and sealing it in place. A step missed by previous installers. Another thing I thought was nice was that they called the next day to ask about the installation and to see if we had any questions. They installed Lennox systems that seem to work great. Overall I am very satisfied with the equipment, the installation and with Summer's in general.Plumbing Heating and Cooling.

Checking on my dad's house and found heat not working. Inside temperature was 52 degrees. I called the phone number and was directed to push and quot;1and quot; for after hours/emergency service. Directed to operator who was polite and knowledgeable. Operator told me if no response in 30 minutes to call back. Received call from technician within 5 minutes. Technician arrived within 15 minutes. He diagnosed and fixed the problem right away - found dust/dirt particle blocking the hose to the pressure switch. Technician provided information about maintenance program. Only charge for this visit was minimum service call charge for after hours. Prompt, polite, competent. The work was performed at 2140 West Liberty Lane, Greenfield, IN 46140.

We were told that they installers would arrive between 8 and 10 AM. We received a call around 845 that they were on the way and they arrive around 9 AM. They removed the parts that were an issue so that I could take pictures of them for a warranty that I have. Then they removed the old furnace and brought in the new one. While one guy was working in the basement the other one drained the AC. The furnace got installed quickly and was placed on vibration pads instead of just sitting on the concrete like the old one had been. After getting it all in, they refilled the AC and installed the thermostat. The new furnace fired up just fine. We discussed filters to use and proper changing times just to make sure that I was using an OK filter and changing it appropriately. The tech showed me how to operate the thermostat. The whole install time took about 3 hours. The techs work shoe covers as they came in and out and cleaned up the work areas. I was very pleased with the whole process. As a side note, in hind sight, I probably should not have opted for the digital thermostat. There was no power to the old one and so there is no house power to the new one, which means it runs on batteries. While this may not ever be an issue, if something would ever fail with the electronics we would not be able to call for heat or AC. At least with the old style with the mercury switch, this was not a concern. There is power available near the thermostat and I may opt in the future to have that hooked up.
Description of Work: During a normal furnace checkup, tech discovered several things wrong. This furnace is 20 years old and we were aware of some of them, but some of these were new. Tech provided pictures to my wife who was as at home at the time. We discussed the options of repairing the items, but to do it right would cost almost $2000 and I opted to get a new furnace instead. The quote was for a new 80% efficient furnace - which was similar in efficiency to what we were replacing, a new AC coil which sets on top of the furnace since it was one of the problem areas, and a new digital thermostat. We opted for the 80% mostly because of cost. We realize that with a more efficient furnace there is potential to get that money back over time and there was the potential of having an upstairs that was warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer because of the variable speed motor. However, the payback in gas savings would take about 10 years and we might not still be in this house in 10 years and there was no guarantee that the more efficient type of furnace would make the upstairs more comfortable since there may be other factors, such as insulation in the walls contributing to the issue. Because they were replacing the coil, there would also be the need to drain the AC of refrigerant and then recharge it. Summers carries several brands and we opted for an Armstrong on the recommendation of the tech, David.

Summers was originally called out to my rental property this summer due to the AC breaking down. Tech found that it had a blown capacitor. He was able to fix the AC immediately on the spot. The tech was courteous, on-time and professional . I had then decided to purchase a Service Agreement that would discount the price of the capacitor and include three scheduled maintenance visits. Summers was scheduled today for one of my maintenance visits. The tech gave the furnace a tune up. I had noticed that the tech was very thorough and took his time to ensure me everything was in good running condition. I had not seen this with other HVAC companies that I had used for many years in the past. They always seemed to be rushed and in a hurry to move on.

I called Summers with an emergency no-heat call during this Christmas season. The "on-call" tech contacted us within 15 minutes of us calling into the call center. The tech was to our door within a hour of speaking with him. After evaluating the issue at hand, the tech determined that the inducer fan motor was not operating properly. The tech then was able to contact the warehouse and have them open up to get the part that was needed; all in the same night! We were back up and running within 3 hours from the initial call. They even provided a space heater to keep us warm while the tech went to get the part needed. THANK YOU SUMMERS!

I have two main issues with this. The first was that they offered us a 20% discount on services, but they never honored that when they did the service and always gave us the run-around when asked about why this was. The second is that they told us there was a problem with our heating system and we could get a new one or fix it. Summers told us that it would be cheaper to replace it. I thought that was a little sketchy, so I called to get a second opinion and was told that there was nothing wrong with it from the other provider who came out. I feel like they tricked us and attempted to scam us after hearing this. I called in to talk to someone and it took forever for me to get in contact with someone. When I finally did get in contact with them I was told I could be refunded or they could come double check everything. I told them I just wanted my money back, and they said ok. I have called them almost everyday and have still not gotten the refund they promised. They are ready to get there and help you when it is time for the sale, but if you are upset, don't expect a timely response. ***UPDATE After many repeated attempt and hours of chasing after a boss who and quot;can't be reached or left a voicemailand quot; I finally got a call back. They boss was fairly calm and courteous about the situation and did end up issuing a full refund. In my conversation with him I accused them of setting their service men up on commission, and he declined to comment on this accusation, making me think that this was true, and by the dishonest behavior I saw from this one rep, I believe it is. The boss did say that this type of service wasn't acceptable and he would have a talk with the rep.
Description of Work: We purchased a service agreement with them, where they come check the plumbing, heating, and AC once a year or so.

I came home from an extended business trip around midnight to find the temperature in my home was only 45 degrees. I called Summers- based on a positive past experience and there answering service got someone here within 45 minutes. My Heat Pump had failed, and my indoor fan was blowing cold air throughout my house. I had family coming over for the weekend, so having no heat - even in the mild weather would have been disasterous. The gentleman who came over (Dave Eli) was extremely helpful, made some phone calls - at midnight no less - and had me scheduled to replace my heat pump and indoor furnace starting before 10am the next day. The installation team was prompt and friendly. They wore their little orange 'booties' even in my less than clean basement, and had my house warm by 5pm the next day. What's more is that my basement surrounding the indoor furnace was cleaner when they left than it was when they got here. I assumed once they cleared out their tools, they would rush to get out of here. On the contrary, one of the installers sat with me and taught me how to program my thermostat, and was very patient all the while. I may have spent more - but the value that Summers brought was more than worth the money spent.

Last Spring, we received several inches of rain within a few days and my basement flooded again. I had had another ‘Presidential’ plumbing company out after the last incident of basement flooding. After charging far too much, they assured me that if my basement flooded now, I should begin building a boat. Someone from Summers came out and looked at not only my sump pump, but also investigated outside – which was where the issue was. Apparently, the other company did not check to see whether my line was clean. Regardless of the two sump pumps and the battery back up they sold me, the clog in the exit line caused water to back up and burn both of my sump pumps out. My mistake, Summers referred me to another company 1-800 Water Damage for the clean up (another whole entry could be written about the great work they did, finding ways to reduce my cost in several ways); and went to work designing a system that ensured my basement would not flood again. The system has worked phenomenally since then. Even after several recent deluges, my basement has been bone dry. The Summers Plumbers were professional and fair. After 2 full days of work – I received a bill for little more than the other company charged just to install a couple of sump pumps. Kudos to Summers.

We were very pleased with our experience with Summers Heating. We have an 1880s farmhouse, and have not had heat in the upstairs for several years. Another company had put a new heating system in the house before we bought the place, and the upstairs never heated well. A few years after we bought the house the system malfunctioned and had to be replaced because it was not the right size and had cracked severely. We put a new system in downstairs ourselves, but had not finished the upstairs. A Summers representative talked with us and helped us to figure out the best way to run heat to all of the upstairs rooms without losing any floor space. They then came to the house to install the new upstairs heating system. Due to the age of our house and some old construction issues, they had to do some special figuring to avoid causing problems, but they did a wonderful job. For the first time since we have bought the house, the heat is very even and quiet. We are able to turn it off when we are not using the upstairs, yet the rooms heat quickly when we need the heat. We were not pressured to purchase anything that we did not absolutely need and are very happy with the results.

We felt that the experience was good. The plumber got the work done, which was extensive, in two days. He let us know exactly when he was coming and was on time. He was very helpful with questions that we had. We look forward to working with this company in the future.
Description of Work: A Summers plumber came to our house to help us install plumbing for a remodeling job. Our house is an 1880s farmhouse and is not easy to work with. He helped us plumb in an upstairs bathroom where none existed and ran the lines from the upstairs to the drains, etc., in such a way that we can finish the remodeling with no obvious plumbing showing. He also gave us good advice on some other plumbing that we need done in another part of the house.

My furnace went out over the weekend. I called and they sent a technician out after hours. He said the furnace was not igniting and needed the board replaced. He said he could manually ignite it for us to get the heat going for now. He said he would order the part and it would be in on Monday. he was very nice, friendly and professional. On Monday I received a call letting me know the part had arrived and what time I could expect them to arrive at my house to make the repair. I also received a call a half an hour prior to my appointment to let me know they were on the way. They arrived and repaired my furnace. Jim was very polite and willing to help discover the reason for the strong odor of methane gas backing up into the house. Jim and his assistant did a nice job of replacing all of the 50+ yr old plumbing. However it was not until they cut everything out that we discovered that the problem could have been resolved by cleaning out the vent pipe. Too bad they didn't run a camera down the vent pipe first. It would have spared me a lot of clean up and drywall repair. We learn as we go... At least now I have new pipes and should not have to worry about a slow drain for another 10 yrs or so. I will use them again in the future, if needed.

Overall this was a very negative experience. We called and scheduled an A/C service call advertised for $50 (that arrived through the mail.) the technician, Max, performed some services and billed us $326 in total. We asked why they charged us so much and he told us he had to perform other services. While we understand that additional services might be needed ocasionally, the technician should have consulted us and tell us about the additional costs prior to performing the services. After having said this the technician agreed and gave us a partial credit, billing us $138. We weren't satisfied with the experienced and do not plan on doing business with them again.

Summers first came out in June to do an AC inspection Tune-up. After completing the Tune-up the tech came in the house and let me know that I probably had a little leak and the AC was down a little on freon. I should be sure to keep an eye out for any problems. I was informed they had a special and if I paid an additional amount up front they would schedule and do the furnace inspection / tune-up for a reduced cost. Inspection scheduled for 22 Aug and tech did show up and immediately pulled out the heat ex-changer and showed me it had a couple small cracks and that it needed to be fixed / replaced. I felt he knew what he was going to find as the furnace was 12 years old and put in the CP Morgan house when it was built. It was decided to have Summers back to give us a quote for both a Furnace and AC Unit. He returned the next day with no literature to provide us as to what equipment was being quoted. Quote had a couple of items listed (G61 Furnace - XP 13 AC) and then he read their motto on the back. I felt the quote given me was high. After receiving some quotes from other companies I decided to go with a Gas Furnace and Heat Pump instead of AC Unit. To be fair I called back the tech from Summers and asked his opinion on installing a Heat Pump in place of the AC unit and he let me know he had the same set-up at his home. I asked for him to give me an updated quote with the SL280V Furnace and XP13 Heat Pump. He said he would get it to me that evening. I never heard anything back and did not feel it was my responsibility to call and remind him I was waiting for another quote. I had a new Lennox Furnace (SL280V) and Heat Pump (XP14) installed by a small individually owned business last week for much less then the original quote by Summers.
Description of Work: AC and Furnace tune-up / inspection. Also received quote to replace both units.
