First, I would like to say we never strive to or expect to receive negative reports on Angie's List. We take great pride in giving our clients great service and always trying to going the extra mile for them. We have received the Angie's List Super Service Award for landscaping from 2004-2011. We are the only landscaping company to receive this award continually since 2004. We would not have qualified and been given this award if we did not take of our clients, and always strive to go the extra mile for them. I think if you read additional reports on our company will you agree with this statement. I know we are not perfect and we do make mistakes. When they do happen we try our best correct them in a timely and efficient manner at no additional cost to the client. As I think you will see if you completely read this response. In response to the member's report on our company, and his statement that pictures are worth a 1000's words, I truly feel he did not fairly report on our company and how I and we as company truly went the extra mile for him. More so than I feel most companies would have done that are in our industry. I would first like to state that I first met the member and we discussed that he wanted to complete a paver patio in his backyard. We discussed where he wanted to put it, the shape and size. He agreed to the estimate and decided on antique color holland pavers by Belgard. I put together the contract with the square footage of the patio and the type of pavers he selected. We began the project for the member, by removing his old concrete, installing gravel and sand base, and began installing the pavers. We installed about half the pavers, and he stopped us. He stated that they were not quality pavers and that it was not what he had picked out. However, I showed him the Belgard brochure and the pallets of pavers. They both were the same as he picked. Again he said the were not quality pavers, (please keep in mind that Belgard is the largest manufacture of pavers in the country and most companies in this area use Belgard pavers.) At any rate I told the member if he wanted to use a different paver that it would fine with me, but would have to use a different manufacture. I showed him a Unilock brochure and picked out a similar holland paver from Unilock. I told him the Unilock paver would be more as it shipped out of Chicago, while the Belgard paver is shipped from Indianapolis. He agreed this would be fine. At this point we removed all the pavers we had installed and re-palletized them, and my supplier picked them up and restocked at no additional charge to the member. He stated that there was restocking fee, but this is not true, the only additional fee was in the additional cost and delivery of the new Unilock pavers. Once the pavers arrived we started constructing his patio again. As we were nearing the edges of the patio, the member stated that he thought the patio was going to be bigger. At that point I showed him the notes from original meeting and the square footage as listed on the quote and contract, and why it was shaped as it was. We then came to agreement on the size and shape of the patio. We finished patio with the Unilock pavers. A few weeks later the member contacted me about have some water pool in two areas of the patio. I met with him and discussed the situation. I told him that we usually do not have issues with water standing on our patios, but I would be happy to take of the situation, and took full responsibility for the situation. I told him I really thought the situation occurred when we removed the original pavers and replaced them with the new Unilock pavers. At any rate I told him that we take care of it. On two different occasions we came out tried repair both areas that were pooling and holding water. However, we were unable to successfully repair the problem. Thus, I told the member we would completely remove the 400 sq. ft. of pavers and relay the entire patio again. I also told him since he had the pooling problem and that we were going completely re-install the patio, that I would purchase at no charge to him the additional pavers to complete the patio to the size and shape I thought he had originally described to me. He was very grateful and pleased that we would stand behind our work and guarantees. At that point the member told me he wanted to show me his neighbors patio, and that he wanted his to look like his neighbors. We both went over to his neighbors and looked his patio. At that point I informed the member that his neighbor's patio was a raised stamped concrete, not a paver patio. I also told him that a concrete patio is installed and reacts totally different than a paver patio. I also told him that if would have shown me his neighbors patio when we first met to discuss his patio, I would have informed that it was a stamped concrete patio, and that he would have needed to talk with a concrete company. At that point I started to realize that no matter what type of paver patio we installed for the member he would not be totally happy because in his mind he was suppose to be getting a stamped concrete patio like his neighbors. At any rate we came out completely removed the the paver patio and reconstructed the patio with the new pavers to the size he originally thought he was getting, and charged no additional fees to complete this service. At that point the member was very appreciative of the work, and his daughter even gave me a picture she drew of her family thanking me for the work. Now almost one year later he puts a very negative report with pictures on Angie's List, and stating that pictures describe a 1000 words. In response to some of his pictures, first the picture of the stoop. The stoop/step was constructed as described and discussed by the member. Now if look at the pavers and the block you will notice they do not match, however the block is from Belgard and it do match the original Belgard pavers. However, now with the Unilock pavers the colors do not match. I asked the member if he wanted us to switch out the block, and he said no it was fine. Next Mr. Srinavasu shows a picture of the water pooling date June of 2011, and yes it was pooling in two spots. However, this picture was taken before we completely reset the entire patio at no additional cost. Since that point there has not been any pooling, and you do no see any pictures with water pooling after that date. The member also blames us for not using weed fabric under the patio, and that is why he has weeds in his paver joints. We certified paver installers by the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute. They create standardized paver installation procedures and practices. We follow these recommended procedures. They do not recommend or even suggest any weed fabric under the pavers. They suggest on high impact installations such as driveways or roads to use geo-textile fabric between the soil and gravel base to keep a separation, but it is not to keep weeds out. Even if we could have installed a weed fabric, the weeds he is showing have germinated and are growing in the paver sand joints. These weeds would have germinated and grown in the same spot because it would have been above the fabric. The fabric only prevents weeds from coming up from below the fabric. The final picture shows weeds growing along the paver edge. The member fails to mention that those weeds are growing in his large vegetable garden next to the patio. You can see the "nice" chicken wire fence running along the patio to keep his dog out the garden. The garden is full of weeds, and I am not sure how it was our responsibility to keep the weeds out from this area? Also, what the pictures fail to show is the lack of general landscaping maintenance that is performed at his property. He blames us for getting leaves, debris and weeds on his patio. However, he has allowed the the grass around the patio edges to grow over the patio edges, the vegetable garden beside the patio is full of weeds, and there is a river birch off the corner of the patio that continually drops leaves. I really don't understand how these items become the fault of our company. In closing, I do feel bad that the member did not get the patio he thought he was getting, and that he did not do the proper research to find out what type of patio his neighbor had prior to meeting with us. However, I feel worse for our company who received a terrible report for work that we completed by following the original contract, trying to go the extra mile for our client, and installing the patio by the recommend procedure of the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute. In conclusion, I truly feel whether it was our company or another landscaping company, the member would not be happy with his paver patio. He truly thinks his patio should be like his neighbors raised stamped concrete patio. I truly know that we have done everything in our power and gone the extra mile to complete the patio for the member, and after that I feel we can do no more. As read additional reports on our company, I think you will again agree this statement, that we truly do try to service our clients the best we know how too. Though I know we are not perfect and do make mistakes, we try to make the corrections as quickly and effciently as possbile without any additional cost to our clients.
