Green Vista Landscaping

Their advertising is good. They're very nice and the person that you contact and talked to is the same person that comes out and helps you. Like the owner I think it’s really needed to have that personal connection with the person that is actually doing the work. They're very informative, they were appealing to what we suggested and offered some options and suggestions.

They got everything done in a day. They had one oopsie where they cut a cable that was not marked by the Utility Locating Service. They told me as soon as it happened so I could check our services and make sure they were okay, and, as I said, it was unmarked. I think it is very professional to admit when you screwed something up - even when it is not your fault - and try to remedy it. I still need them to come back in the fall to finish (because the plants I want are not available until the fall for the last part of the garden - not because they did not finish the job.)

They are very very good and I would recommend them.

It went well! TJ was responsive to our emails and was quick to set up the installation on the calendar. We had the idea and they came did the initial prep work and came within a week or so and did the planting. We're pleased! They did a great job and would recommend them to others.

This light job is beautiful. This is the third year we have had this service. People stop in front of our house to look at the lights and people have contacted us to ask us who did our lights because it is clearly a professional light job. Green Vista took time and listened to what we wanted, they hang the lights and then take them down after Christmas and store them for us. Jeff at Green Vista is great.

They fixed my issues upon my request. Even though there was no warranty agreement, they still honor their work after 6 years. I even offred them to pay and they declined. Not sure if you can find service like that these days! Honest people.

TJ just stopped by to look over an Ash tree for us and see what had to be done to combat the Ash Borer beetle. We have used Green Vista Landscaping exclusively and TJ Houghtalen for over ten years. TJ is the best of the best. He's a wonderful communicator, very very good at what he does, and absolutely a joy to have in charge of your landscaping projects. Green Vista is a top of the line landscaping company. They are very easy to work with and makes a big effort to take good care of their customers.

Started on date promised The first day they removed and reset the existing paver but then had to remove and reset pavers day 2 because they were reset without proper grading and water would have still drained back towards the house. They had to eat the cost of this but it shouldn't have to happen and a homeowner shoudl't have to point it out. I probably saved greenvista alot of money by pointing it out to them in advance rather than letting it go until they were done like most homeowners would do. I had asked for any leftover fill dirt from the installation to be put into low areas of my back yard. They did this but most of it was sand and gravel. For some reason they then seeded it (which I didn't need them to do) and strawed it even though it was still way below grade. I had to rake the straw and rocks out and fill the low areas with topsoild and reseed. Why would anyone fill low areas in someone's back yard with sand and gravel then on top of it seed and straw it? Downspout pop up drains were buried under topsoil and I had to dig them out. I marked three locations where invisible fence lines had to be run under the sidewalk for the system to work properly but they ignored it and only installed one location for the wires to be installed under the sidewalk. They had to come out and drill under my brand new sidewalk in two additional locations then come back to backfill after I ran the wires. During the drilling one of the plants that was installed was dug up and appeared dead. I asked to have it replaced and was told it would come back to life. I now have 4 healthy plants and one that is trying to survive but looks dead, though there is a couple of inches of new growth. Also, because of the drilling, I had to re-grade and re-seed. Fill dirt along sidewalk was mostly sand and gravel and I had to rake it thoroughly, install topsoil over it ahd reseed it. Forgot to install paver retention strip along one section and had to come out and install it at a later date I just noticed the other day that a leg on my pation furniture is scratched up really bad so I can only assume that it was done during the install by one of the workers because I never move the table nor wheel anything around that would cause that type of damage. Since I just discovered it, it couldn't be proven so I have not mentioned it. There is a deep scratch every 1/4" or so for about 2' on one leg. I asked them to stack any leftover pavers on a pallet that I provided which they did, but for some reason they stopped stacking on the pallet and just threw about 100 pavers in a big pile next to it. Wouldn't you think they could at least stack them ? While the finished walk and patio look okay, getting there was another story. I really don't know if it was poor supervision, poor craftsmanship, poor direction, poor understanding or what, but it didn't go real smooth. If I had to go back and re-do my work as much as they had to re-do theirs I would have been fired a long time ago. I only waited so long to file this review to make sure there was nothing additional to add since the walk was completed the end of June.

Initially they graded it and put down the seed, and I was real happy with the job. They came back at there own expense, re-graded it and put down topsoil, and they seeded it. They went above and beyond, and they made me happy.

TJ is very nice and pleasant to work with, and is very available. He is prompt and reliable and seems to care very much about customer satisfaction. He was always very responsive to us, and took his time to go over any changes we wanted to make and to explain all facets of the job to us. His crew was excellent; very friendly and hard working, and eager to please us. They were very respectful of our pets and personal belongings and cleaned up beautifully every day. We really enjoyed our time with them. TJ is quite pricey. We agreed to all of the charges, so we are not faulting him; he gave us what we asked for, and did it beautifully. His labor charges seem quite high to us, but again, we got beautiful work. If you want a true professional who will deliver as promised, TJ is your guy. He sat with us during one of our planning meetings and worked hard to bring down the cost, and although we did that, in the end, we invested a little more to get what we wanted. You truly do get what you pay for, and TJ is good. All in all, a very positive experience, and we have added a beautiful new living space to our yard!

We didn't select Green Vista for our project because the price for our project just didn't fit. However, we would consider calling them again in the future for a second opinion on a different type of landscape project.

I was happy with how quickly the job got done - it was completed well within a week and looked great. We had the wall completed during the summer of 2011 and the landscaping was done the following spring to spread out the cost. Unfortunately, the top 2-3 courses of the wall had to be replaced because it developed a lean. Green Vista honored the workmanship guarantee in our contract and fixed it free of charge. They also buried plastic drainage pipe for my downspouts, and during some hard rains this spring, I noticed the drain lines were backing up at the connections. After some investigation, I found that the piping didn't have a consistent grade to the street and replaced it myself rather than contact GV. I am confident they would have honored the contract again but I'm picky about drainage and I felt better doing it myself. Overall, I'm happy with the work Green Vista provided - the landscaping really enhanced our house's curb appeal and they were very professional in their work. A good experience.

We got a discount for booking early in the year and sending a deposit for our yard mulch. We've used them in the past for mulch delivery without issue. This year we had them do the mulch application and it was nice to come home to the finished product but I am a bit dissatisfied with a few things. 1. I was also told our bushes/trees would be trimmed, which did not happen, and I brought it to their attention when sending our payment. 2. When they cut the grassline back, not all of the grass/dirt was discarded- some of it was put back into the mulch area. 3. Several of my plants were partially or fully covered in mulch. While digging them out, I noticed chunks of grass that were poking thru the mulch, which was the case in three separate spots of our yard. I would recommend being home to monitor the application process.

Hats off to Green Vista!!!! They turned an eyesore into beautiful focal point of my landscaping. I had an existing stacked block "retaining wall", which was falling apart because it wasn't properly installed. They responded quickly to my bid request. Green Vista was the ONLY company (of 5 I had bids from) that suggusted using my existing blocks, which made a difference on the job cost...and he said "you might as well use what you already have", GOOD POINT!!!!! I had bids from $900 to $4500. I chose Green Vista first because my neighbors highly recommended them after they installed their irrigation system and were very pleased and second because of they of they price! The wall was installed in about 5 hours and looks beautiful! The installers were friendly and didn't leave a mess. I will definatly be using Green Vista for future landscaping/hardscaping needs. TJ and crew showed up and completed all their work in about 2 days. We didn't know what any of it looked like as nothing was in bloom but now that warm weather is here, we can see what we bought. We are not at all familiar with all the various kinds of bushes, shrubs or trees. TJ presented us with a plan for low maintenance but would be unique and attractive. So far so good. Only thing left to do is spray the beds for thistles and cutting back the warm grasses before they green up.

Greenvista was very responsive and came out quickly to provide a bid. I replaced mulch that had been in a couple flower beds surrounding my home with rock and rocked the side of my driveway. They were pretty booked so weren't able to schedule the work for about a month but now I'm all set for the spring! They completed everything in one day and left absolutely no mess.

TJ came to our home several months ago to interview me and develop a landscaping plan for our property in Wolf Run. The builders provided minimal landscaping, but we intend to live in this home "forever", and needed something nicer. Also, our home is a walkout, with a steep grade leading down to a wooded area in the rear. I was really delighted with the plan TJ delivered. He had taken care to measure and take pictures of the property, and especially paid attention to the plants and color palette I wanted. I asked for a few minor changes to be made, which TJ readily accommodated after making some helpful suggestions. We had to wait a while for installation because of the watering ban due to the drought this summer. Plans called for new beds in the front of the house, with new trees, evergreens, bushes and perennials. Beds were edged with limestone, and an unsightly utility box was obscured from view with ornamental grasses. In the back, several retaining walls were created using boulders, and beautiful limestone steps lead down the grade. Plantings around the back include hollies and hydrangea, and many perennials. Twelve additional trees were planted in the back, including redbuds, dogwoods, arborvitae, a hawthorne, a sycamore, and a japanese red maple. I can't wait for the perennial flower beds to come in next year. In addition, TJ plans called for the original plants to be transplanted and incorporated into the plan so that nothing went to waste. The crew that came and spent a week doing the work were incredible. Truly nice guys who did a great job, and were a pleasure to work with. The lot was muddy when they first arrived, but they got to it - no complaining. They answered all my questions about how to care for the plants through this winter and on a ongoing basis. By the time they were done, everything was spotless - and gorgeous! All this, and I was charged less than the original estimate because the builders landscapers had graded the yard since TJ developed the plans, and they needed fewer boulders and steps than planned. This is a great company - I highly recommend them. A great experience start to finish!!

They are great! We have used them several times. If you have any problems, they come out right away. The owner is very good at getting back to you if you have any questions about anything.

TJ and Green Vista are wonderful. The "backyard" of our house had always been unusable. Two problems: first, lots of trees and, therefore, little light; second, a very sloped yard. We tried several approaches from various vendors over the years, all unsuccessful. Then we contacted Green Vista, I believe in 2005. TJ came out and, in a relatively short time, produced a plan that included a substantial lawn that had never existed before (and I was convinced could never exist) and the complete landscaping of the large mulch bed. Although skeptical, I went ahead with the project. It worked perfectly. A year later I had a backyard that was the envy of my neighbors. The lawn took, the mulch bed landscaping looked great, and my family and I couldn't have been happier. Indeed, from that time on I asked Green Vista to handle all of the landscape maintenance needs in the rear of our house. I trust TJ and the company so much that I would have no problem simply telling them to do whatever they think ought to be done without even contacting me about the price. We have had several other projects as well with Green Vista. For example, five years ago we added a hot tub and deck to the back. Green Vista came out and did all of the landscaping around the deck. Looks great. We also had them do some significant work to help improve the runoff of water on our steeply sloped back yard. Once again, the results were great. All of the maintenance of the landscaping is, of course, done by Green Vista. I really can't say enough about Green Vista. Just wonderful service.

They usually come out about four times a year. He has done a good job. He is very prompt, professional, and provides good services. I am also going to hire him for the Fall clean up of the beddings and tree trimming.

They did a great job. After an initial consultation and estimate, they came back out with the pond specialist before they started work. It only took them one day to rip out our existing falls and build a new one, as well as re-stack rocks in our pond. The new fall is bigger, nicer, lower maintenance, and gives us better sound. Initially, we still had a leak in the waterfall after they rebuilt it. It took a couple of weeks of visits from them, problem shooting, and patching attempts to fix the problem. Finally on a recent trip they found the source of the problem, a liner attachment problem that the pond specialist had only seen a couple of times in the past decade. It's easy to have a good experience when things go well, but I think you get a better idea of a company's service when there is a problem. TJ at GreenVista was very responsive to our problems after the waterfall was rebuilt. They sent people to our house several times to try to find the source of the problem, and TJ was always responsive to my emails. They were about to rebuild the waterfall from scratch when they finally located and fixed the leak. Since we had a leak both before and after the waterfall was rebuilt, I was really worried that they would rebuild the falls and we would still have a problem, although after the trouble shooting, no one knew where else the leak could be coming from. I was very glad that they were willing to rebuild if necessary though, so that we didn't have to live with a pond that had to be filled daily. We would be happy to use them again in the future.

They did an excellent job. The crew was very professional and hardworking.

The first job was to prune back my shrubs and trees and lay down three cubic yards of mulch. That job was initially quoted at $900 but we negotiated it to $800. Then I brought him back last year to do that again; he gave me the same price. This year he did the weeds in the front yard. He wiped those suckers out. I’ve been trying to get them killed for ten years. The herbicide he could use was more industrial grade than the stuff I could buy. That will run me $125. He is going to cut back my trees and shrubs when he has a slow time; that has been quoted at $400. Any time I have worked with him, he’s been just a super person. He’s been easy to work with and his quotes have been very thorough. If you don’t understand them, he will explain them. He gives you details so if there are several segments you can see that if you knock off certain parts, you know how much you’ll save. Other people that have done work for me have given me a bottom line and if I don’t want to do the whole thing, I can’t figure out what I can do. He makes it easy to make budget-friendly decisions. If you can’t get along with him, you can’t get along with anyone. I know that he also does snow removal and some design work.

The quote for both shrub removal and replacement planting was professional and somewhat detailed. their quote was $925 for the shrub removal. I actually got the removal done by another company for $280.00 less. I'm sure they would have done a good job on the removal, and I am keeping them in mind for the plant replacement. Their business is located about 15-20 minutes away from me and the trip fee of $85 equaled about 9% of the total.

.The work went very well. They started on time and fished the project in four days. The crew - Craig Staggs and Mike Pearce - worked very hard, kept us informed throughout and were very considerate, taking special care to avoid damage to our grass and driveway. They were very professional and did several additional things that were not part of the contract. After completion, T. J. came out and spent some time with us to explain how to maintain the new plants and trees.
