Although Tom was not the lowest bidder, he was reasonably priced. We chose him over 2 other contractors based on references and the complexity of some of his prior work. Additionally, his bid was easy to understand and very detailed. The project started on time, met sheduled deadlines throughout the project and was completed quite quickly for a large project. Tom's subcontractors all did quality work with quality product. We have had many other remodeling projects done in our homes and Pearson was the best contractor with whom I've worked.
Description of Work: Tom finished approximately 1500sf basement that was completely unfinished.

Tom and his crew were excellent to work with. Everyone cared about the project and took pride in the finished work. Things ran pretty much on schedule with no major issues other than some miscommunication between the tile subcontractor salesman and the tile subcontractor installer. The jobsite was kept well organized and clean. Tom always kept us informed of how the schedule was progressing and was able to accommodate several additions to the project as it progressed. Tom made many visits to the jobsite, as well as doing a significant amount of work himself, to meet with us and to talk about specifics of the project.
Description of Work: Tom and his crew did a complete remodel of a finished room and bathroom in our basement. This included new framing, drywall, carpeting and electrical work in the finished room and a complete rebuild of the bathroom including moving fixtures, framing, drywall and tile work.

Mr. Pearson came to my house to assess the work. Informed me of a couple of different options to get the problem fixed. Told me he would get back to me with an estimate and just dissappeared, never to be heard from again. Unreliable!

We take great pride in getting back to every customer. I reviewed my phone logs and on-line contacts and do not show this member's inquiry with our company and what this project consisted of. While it is possible to have missed a reply, I am unable to locate this project request from the member, nor did we receive a follow up phone call from the member. I am perplexed, therefore, at this situation.

This was an interesting project involving a whole-home remodel of the main living area including a new contemporary kitchen, new basement finish with added window wells for natural light, and complete remodel of family living space. We raised the entire ceiling of first floor to create ceiling height of 10 feet. The finished product is spacious and inviting.

Tom came to my home as scheduled to inspect the garage and review the project. I gave him a copy of the construction plans. He sent me a detailed bid as promised. Tom is very professional and a good listener. I was confident that he understood what I wanted to have done. After reviewing all the bids from four contractors, I did choose another construction company. However, I highly recommend Tom and plan and asking him to review the plans for an addition to my house later this summer.

Our experience with Tom was wonderful. We were considering a whole home remodel and needed help determining what could be done and for how much. All the people we talked to would not drive to our small town or wanted to charge us hundreds to do so. Tom went out of his way to help us develop a concrete scope and estimate of our project. He drove an hour to our small town to see the house and do a walk through. He was positive but realistic. Tom then came to our the next week to go over the estimate with us. We determined that the it was not a good investment for us because of the price of homes in the area. But, we could have never made this decision without Tom's help. We would recommend Tom to anyone looking for an honest, experienced professional to work with them on a project. We are very grateful for everything Tom did for us.

After receiving several other quotes before our renovation, I believe Tom provided a value and quality that made it clear we made the right choice. All of his team was easy to work with and they were quick to respond to any questions. Tom had a detailed schedule that made it easy to follow his progress and it allowed our renovation to be completed on the original timeline. We lived in our house during the renovation and his team was cognizant of that and kept our house impressively clean during construction. Also being able to see the construction every day it was clear that Tom's team does a quality job the first time. Tom and his team truly made our renovation experience as stress free as possible.
Description of Work: Finished basement to include bathroom, bedroom, laundry room, entertainment room and general storage area. Combined two main level rooms into a master suite with bathroom and walk in closets.
The quote was fair and from there it got even better. Workers were professional, always cleaned up each day, always punctual, and most of all they were conscientious(very rare these days). Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone

Overall experience was excellent. I picked Tom's company based on the reviews and references and was not disappointed. I had a fairly tight timeline for the work to be completed and Tom's company were able rise to the challenge. The team were able to work around my schedule everyday - and adjusting when my plans changed. From the start to finish Tom and his team were easy to work with, my questions were always answered in a timely fashion and when things went wrong (as they always do on such a large project) the fixes were handled quickly and without fuss or drama. Tom worked with me to incorporate things that I purchased independently and was flexible in small modifications to project along the way. I also liked that the sub-contractors were local - made things like color and style selections very straight forward - as I got to see in person vs. picking from a sample chart or website. Most importantly the whole team treated me and my home (& pets!) with the greatest respect and I felt comfortable with them having access to my home even when I was not able to be there.
Description of Work: Finished the basement (~2,200) including Home Theater, Bar, Bedroom, Office, Gym and Full Bath. Plus storage shelving in unfinished spaces. Project took approx. 10 weeks start to finish (including designs, permits, etc.)
Our company needed more office space and a place where we could serve our customers. It was decided to change an area of the warehouse to serve as upstairs office space and an auction office. In looking for a contractor we searched Angie's List and found Thomas J Pearson Inc. The challenge came in that we had a very short time span to complete the project. We called four different contractors and of the three Tom was the only one that was able to provide a quote that was complete. He spent a lot of time listening to our needs and did an excellent job assisting us in making cost conscious decisions. He and his crew were very respectful of listening to our concerns and acting upon them. We would recommend Tom to anyone that needs a good quality builder that cares.
Description of Work: Removing current walls and creating office spaces, custom service area and more in an old warehouse space. Tom, Michael and their crew did an outstanding job on turning an old dirty warehouse into an executive office and service area that we are very proud of. Not only was the worked performed under very short deadlines; but it was done professionally. They overcame challenges of walls in the way, old structures and more. They added 4 custom offices, a sign shop and an auction office with 5 customer service stations. There were no shortcuts with this project. Only the best was delivered. We would highly recommend this company.

Project was 4 weeks in duration. Everything went smoothly and efficiently. Tom and his crew were incredibly punctual, responsive, communicative, professional, talented and we could not have had a better experience. Living in a construction zone for 4 weeks can be trying but Tom and his crew made it as easy as possible to be here during all phases of our project. This company is top notch!
Description of Work: We cannot praise Tom Pearson and his staff of employees and sub contractors enough. We had a variety of interior and exterior projects (endless list that Tom so graciously accepted). These projects included the rebuilding of our front entry, concrete steps, hardwood flooring, cedar siding, interior and exterior painting, electrical work, window repair etc. etc. etc. Excellent craftsmanship, service, responsiveness, fairness and everything (and more) that one hopes for in a home improvement project was provided. Many thanks to Tom and his staff for an amazing job. We love it!

Tom, as usual, exceeded our expectations with this huge project! He went above and beyond! After making the decision not to rebuild our aging in-ground pool and the surrounding area, we made the determination that we desired a level area which we could enjoy. After the removal of the pool and surrounding area, Tom's team went about installing an extensive stone retaining wall with three levels. Next, was a large pavered patio as well as a new deck with three levels. Lastly, landscaping including the installation of 22 (seven to eight foot ) Arborvites and seeding our entire side and backyard. After the exceptionally hot summer we had, Tom's team returned and reseeded the entire project for free.
Description of Work: Tom has done a lot of exceptional work in the past for us as well as for my parents. Over the years, we have continually relied on Tom for his expertise and knowledge. He is an outstanding contractor!!! He is professional and very personable. He is cost conscious. Tom was the general contractor on the removal of our in-ground swimming pool, as well as the complete landscaping of our entire backyard, including the installation of a new stone retaining wall, large pavered patio, and new deck. Because of the layout of our backyard (the entire property was an incline), there were issues to be overcome concerning our desire for a level area to enjoy. Our expectations were not only exceeded by the level of work (which we have grown accustomed to by Tom), but by the overall finished result gave us SO much more!

We found Tom to be a person of integrity and a smart problem-solver. He was personable and reassuring, and his humor relieved much of the stress we felt during our first building project. He tried hard to please. We liked having weekly meetings to discuss the progress on the house and any concerns we might have. We liked the people he works with, as well--his subcontractors and his crew. Several neighbors noticed that his crew always worked hard and kept the site cleaned up. The workmen obviously respect their boss and were courteous to us. The project was done quickly, which was appreciated because we had to move out for five months. We are very happy with our spacious and bright "new" home and would definitely use Thomas J. Pearson Inc. again.
Description of Work: Tom Pearson took on the challenge of remodeling and fixing up our 40-year-old ranch house. He built a new garage with two rooms above, added a room over the family room, created an attic storage space, re-configured much of the first floor (including conversion of our garage into a great room), replaced all windows, and fixed up the rooms that were not structurally altered.

He has great attention to detail, and the preservation of our home during the renovation. My family moved into this house in February of 1953, and I just inherited the house from my family. Excellent. Several architectural renderings to wholly redesign kitchen and living room space for better functionality for family. Felt secure with all engineering aspects despite weight-bearing wall with plumbing and ductwork in it. Tom and his crew hired and oversaw all contractors to get the job done on time and exceeding expectations. We knew upfront all anticipated costs and fees, and Tom was forthright on all change orders including adjustments up and down for respective upgrades or lower scope work on different parts of the project. We never worried about the security or cleanliness of our house while we were away, and they even constructed a temporary wooden wall and deadlock door to seal off the rest of the house from the renovation/work area and had a vacuum onsite that they used every day before leaving. We are already planning other projects and Pearson is the only one we will ever bother to call; we are also getting new quotes for work from his excellent custom woodworker (see Woodshapes Unlimited, Brad Hasecuster review). The only bad subcontractor was Midwest Electric (see that review and never hire them!). Tom had to heavy-hand that electric company on this job and also secure a back-up one that was excellent (Ellison Electric) so we'd be surprised if Tom bothers with Midwest again; we are simply glad that Tom took control of that situation. Our new kitchen is absolutely amazing, all custom and bells and whistles we enjoy every day.
Description of Work: Removal of weight-bearing wall and gut kitchen to renovate entire end of house, including redirecting duct work and plumbing and entire redesign and build-out of new kitchen.
Overall everything was good. Tom is great to work with, and his team was very nice and did a solid job. There was an issue with his drywall team that was a little frustrating, but Tom made it right and the basement looks amazing. Tom was a little more expensive than other contractors, but I believe you get what you pay for. Tom was very helpful and accommodating. I would recommend him for another job.
Description of Work: I had my basement refinished. Tom helped manage his team in the the framing, drywall, cabinets, granite counter tops, and 1/2 bath. in order to save money, I did the demolition, painting, and electrical work to the basement.

Tom, my husband and I clicked right away. Tom is very professional and guided us through the steps necessary to get the process rolling. His estimate for the room addition was reasonable, and only because of an unforseen circumstance did it end up costing a mite more. This was a "from nothing to something" kind of project. His people were polite, prompt, reliable and professional. They were there when they said they would be. They are the kind of Company you don't mind handing over a key to your home to. If I had any questions along the way, they were there with answers. If I wanted to change something, he was willing to work with me. From the foundation to the roof, electrical, flooring, customized ceiling, windows and siding, they handled it. And they completed it within the time frame they estimated. What a relief to not have to worry about the people you hired! I would recommend Thomas J. Pearson to anybody and everybody!!

Tom and his crew are absolutely wonderful to work with! This is the second time that they have done work on my home (4 years ago they built a master bedroom addition and re-configured the interior of the house by removing some walls to combine two bathrooms into one and inserting a 6 foot doorway and turning a closet from one room into the adjoining room.) As with my first experience, Tom and his crew are punctual, polite and do good work. Most of Tom's crew work directly for him and the work that he sub-contracts is given to people he has worked with for years. One of his guys is always on-site when the sub-contractors are in the house. They care about ensuring that their work spaces are clean at the end of each day so that the house can still be lived in with as little inconvenience as possible. When I ask questions, they answer them completely and honestly. Because I am not very good at things like where to place canister lights, they walk me through options and give me insights that I would not have thought of - oftentimes, saving me money. I did have one question about how some of the work was done and Tom came back personally to check it out and changed how some of the tub molding was installed to ensure I was happy with the work. I recommend these guys to everyone that I know is planning to do work in their homes and I will definitely call them for my next project.
Description of Work: Plumbing: tear out existing tub; Install Kohler Sterling® 60” x 36” T & S unit, T17478 Almond with smooth wall panels. Electrical: (1) change bath fan light to QT fan light (2) add tub recess light, tie in with light fan (3) delete 2nd bath fan light (4) add recess light over the stool (5) delete outlet (6) remove track light in the living room (7) add 2 recess lights in the living room Drywall: ceiling in the family room skim & re-texture where lights used to be, touch up in the bath Kitchen: (1) remove 2 track lights, add 6 recess lights, replace 1 existing light, add 2 Hockey PVC lights, replace sink light. We have used Tom in the past to remodel our basement then later to build our back porch. We wanted to have the driveway poured while we were out of town for a week to minimize the impact of waiting for it to cure before we drove on it. We have neighbors who are VERY particular about their lawn and our driveway has only 7" of grass one their side. They have become so unhappy when someone's tires went into their grass that they actually bought large reflectors and put down the side of our driveway :) in order to minimize any impact to them we wanted tom to do this work even though i am sure i could have hired a concrete company. we walked it with Tom and marked some changes we wanted to make to widen it a bit. To my amazement we pulled in from vacation and if it hadn't been a different color due to not curing yet (it later matched nearly perfectly) i would have never known work was done. somehow my neighbors grass was actually growing over the edge of the new concrete and looked like it had been there for years. Pearson carefully removed a strip of sod then laid it back down after they were done. Several of my neighbors commented that they were impressed that Tom actually visited each house around our circle to introduce himself and make sure they had his number in case there was any issue. Even my next door neighbor had nothing but good things to say. he showed me pictures of the work in progress and all the unexpected things he found under my drive that he had to deal with in order to do the job right. today i told tom that we had developed a crack across the boundary of two sections (sometimes this just happens) and his response was "that crack stinks. we will replace those 2 sections. I wills stop by next week to review". i have used many contractors over the years and i know i am not the easiest customer with some of the complex projects i have done but i swear by Tom. I found him on Angies list years ago when i did my basement and he has always been no more expensive than other bids yet he has more attention to customer service than anyone i have ever worked with.
Description of Work: Our driveway was badly cracked and needed to be partially removed and replaced. Pearson Construction cut the bad sections out, jackhammered out the old concrete, poured gravel and new concrete to match our existing sections.

Tom and his sub contractors are without question the most professional, considerate, and meticulous we have ever worked with. Tom never failed to communicate with us regarding issues or concerns and always went the extra mile to exceed our expectations. We had a challenging kitchen and sunroom remodel, expanding the room in a very old home and Tom worked out every obstacle the house put in his way. The final result far exceeded our expectations and we lover the space.

I contacted Mr. Pearson for an estimate to add a half bath on the main level of my older (1915) home. Mr. Pearson returned my call right away and was very prompt in coming out to give me an estimate. He was polite and professional, although I decided I couldn't afford his estimate at this time.

I have hired Tom Pearson several times and will continue to hire Tom and his crew over and over again. Not only are they punctual, professional, and do very high quality work, but they stand by their work and are very fair in everything they do. In addition, the communication with both Tom and the crew is always great. Last year, we had Tom replace all of the windows on the front of our house, some of which had wood rot and needed significant repair. We also had him replace some wood rot around our chimney. Everything turned out wonderfully. Fast forward one year - we are now selling our home and the inspection report stated that wood rot around the chimney would need to be repaired. I know that Tom's guys repaired it the first time, so when I contacted him, I was trying to understand what the inspectors could have seen. We have an extremely high pitched roof and we cannot get up there safely to look at it ourselves. The inspector had taken pictures and you could see that repairs had already been done. Tom said he would take a look and make it right. When his guys came out to do the repair, they were here for a lot longer than we all anticipated as they found the damage to be a bit more substantial once they started working on it. Tom charged me minimally for the work and it was done within a few days of contacting him during his very busy summer season. I couldn't be happier - it's tough to find a contractor that you can fully trust, which is why is will continue to both hire and recommend Tom.

My husband called him to request a quote for services. A car had driven through our fence, tree, and impacted our home. Upon hearing the situation, Mr Pearson informed my husband that he doesn't like working with Insurance companies and would rather not waste his time or my husband with a quote. After reading all of the wonderful ratings for Mr Pearson's professionalism and quality of work I was incredibly shocked by his dismissive response. Especially given the situation; I am incredibly disappointed that he couldn't even take the time to give a quote for the work, let alone actually doing any work.
