The project went very well, and our teens now have the best bathroom in the house. We went from a pink tiled bath with an old, single sink vanity (pink, also), pink tub and pink toilet to an updated bath with a separate toilet / bath area, plenty of built in storage, and two sink areas. Tom has done many projects for us and all have been above expectations. Tom is great about making sure the details are done right. I had specific ideas about what I wanted in this bath project, and they were executed flawlessly.
Description of Work: We were converting a dated 1960s bathroom to an updated bath for two teenagers. We wanted to change the existing footprint of the bath and include some unused storage space.

Job went well. Tom and his crew had built a new front porch for us several years ago. Some woodwork on the columns suffered water damage. I called Tom and told him about the problem. He personally came out and evaluated the problem and promised to make it right. His workers brought new (different) materials and installed them. The new materials should be much more durable. Tom’s crew did all the work and provided new materials at no cost to me. Tom stands behind his work. During the course of the work Tom came by several times to check the work and see if we were satisfied with the remedy. We are.

There was a complete transformation of our basement from a dark, creepy and unsafe area to an inviting and functional family gathering spot. Specifics include new windows, stairs, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as new insulation. New walls, flooring, sump pump, cabinetry, countertops, tiling, lighting, fixtures and painting. Concrete was dug up, new concrete pored and a new support beam installed. Throughout this entire process, Tom and our project manager Michael, were always available and responsive to any of our questions or concerns. Although I imagine they were working on other projects, we always felt as if we were their top priority. The polite, friendly crew always kept the job site neat and clean. We are so pleased with our new basement and the work of Tom and his crew.....we will hire them again!

We remained in the home during the remodel, and Tom's employees and sub contractors were always very courteous and sensitive to the fact that we lived within the worksite every day. Very clean and conscientious on a daily basis. Tom was very involved and easy to communicate with. Very pleased with the quality of work and unique design ideas he presented. He worked closely with our architect, Lee Constantine. When unexpected things occurred, Tom presented reasonable options and did not quibble over nickel-and-dime matters. Definitley conscious about our budget and end cost was extremely close to his original estimate. Tom's employees were very knowledgeable and talented. We definitely got to know his employees, esp. Doyle and Michael. We could trust they would make sure the work would be done right and they were easy to communicate with. Tom does use some subcontractors who he knows very well and respect him. The subcontractors who worked with him were just as professional and easy to work with and we would give each an A+ rating too. As a family living in a construction site, we felt very safe leaving our middle school boys home for short periods, knowing all the workers were conscientious and very aware of our needs as a family. We are very pleased with the outcome and highly recommend Tom Pearson.

Tom and his crew completed a four-month-long project for us this spring & summer to add 430 sq. ft of interior space to our house by extending a dining room and converting a screened-in porch to an interior sunroom. Detail work included built-in bookshelves and a window seat. Tom provided an itemized estimate that listed each task in detail and made it pretty easy to be sure we were on the same page for scope of work to be performed. We compared his estimate to several others; his was second-lowest and we chose Tom because we felt his style and personality was the best match for us. They started on time in April and stayed mostly on track with the schedule that Tom had developed. They got a little behind when it came to the flooring, and the final punch list items dragged out a couple weeks longer than we would have liked. There were a couple fairly major unexpected issues that came up - any project this big is likely to have one or two - but Tom was very responsive and made sure they got addressed to our satisfaction. Communication with Tom was always very easy, somewhat less so with his on-site foreman, but we always felt like Tom was available and listening and working with us - keeping us informed, answering our questions, and being flexible for minor tweaks as the project progressed. Quality of work was excellent - we are simply thrilled with the final result! A primary objective was to make the addition look like it was an original part of the house, and they succeeded - the brickwork and roofing blend seamlessly on the exterior, and the new wood flooring matches refinished existing wood in the dining room and kitchen. The built-ins look fantastic! Tom went above & beyond to minimize dust & disruption inside the house, and to make sure our house was secure during the construction. Tom is not one to nickel & dime his clients - we made some upgrades that were added via official option, but he absorbed several other tweaks as part of the job. Overall we are very happy with the work that Tom and his crew performed.

The room in question was at one time an attached two car garage that was converted to a carpeted living space by a previous owner. The portion of wall where the garage door used to be had been replaced by some sort of lightweight veneer (likely due to the lack of a footer). As the brick on the exterior was painted, it was not immediately apparent that real brick had not been used until we noticed water infiltration problems during heavy rains. The room was also cold in the winter due to the concrete floor under the carpet, and lack of hvac. Tom and his crew re-did the wall, which included the removal of a never-used exterior door, pouring of a new footer, laying real brick, and replacing a single picture window with 2 double hungs. All this his crew did well, on time, and on-budget, and during the job they were extremely polite and friendly and kept things clean. Once this was finished we had him price out the addition of new, smooth drywall for the ceiling and a raised floor--this would bring the floor closer to the level of the rest of the house, and allow for ducting to be run underneath allowing for better air flow. They completed this work quickly as well. At our request, he allowed us to do some work ourselves throughout the process to save on costs, including insulation, painting, and carpeting. We're very pleased with the work done, and a year out have had zero water issues, and have noticed a vast improvement in the temperature and general environment of the room. More recently we had him come by to quote a master bath renovation. He was able to stop by despite his busy schedule, and worked up a very comprehensive estimate. Although we're unable to have the work done on our bathroom at this time, we'd certainly contact him in the future for additional jobs.
Description of Work: Thomas and his crew took down an existing exterior wall of our house and rebuilt a new masonry wall, a job that included pouring a new concrete footer underneath and adding 2 new double hung windows. They also re-drywalled the ceiling in this room (getting rid of what used to be a textured ceiling), and raised the floor.

It didn't go!!! They refused to come out to provide a bid.
Description of Work: Nothing! Apparently our request to add a 1/2 bath to our home wasn't big enough for them to come out to provide a quote! They said that they couldn't be competitive because of the size of the job. They didn't know or care that we had much larger plans in store for the company that completes this first stage of a $30,000 home remodel. Oh well, maybe we can get another company to take our small amount of money!!!

This member sent an inquiry regarding a half bath project, and requested contractor visits within a few days of the initial inquiry. We promptly responded to the member that we are not pursuing this type of project. I was disheartened to read this review, as we provided the best response in a timely fashion to the member given the information we had from the member. We strive to promptly respond to inquiries, both those that are within our project service offerings, and those that are not.

A whole home remodel that affected most of the interior living space of our residence, which included a downstairs bump out of kitchen and upstairs master bath. Demolition, foundation, framing, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, exterior trim, interior finishes, windows, flooring were areas impacted by the architectural design of Constantine Design Group. The remodel took 5 months and was dirty and stressful at times but without hesitation we would do it all over again rather than do it piece by piece over an extended period. This was our first experience with remodeling and not realizing the important criteria of personality as a trait for a contractor. Tom Pearson was compatible with us as homeowners and so professional, maintained frequent, excellent communication during the whole project, and even kept us in our home. Tom, a Journeyman Carpenter, used his crew and subcontractors who performed the necessary work for project completion. We cannot compliment enough the quality network of subcontractors Tom uses for project progress, impeccable workmanship, and attention to detail and integrity of the home. Tom Pearson?s team works with great precision and professionalism and unbounded desire to please the client. It is most insightful about someone?s character when people who surround him are loyal, respectful, and reliable. This is Tom Pearson?s team! We are not complete with updating and transitioning our 1980?s traditional home and Tom is the only contractor we will consult and schedule with in the future. In addition, we would like to acknowledge Constantine Design Group, Beverly Markhoff Interiors, and Wood Shapes Unlimited for their contributions to our home remodel and Jeremy, Carpenter Foreman, and Michael, Lead Carpenter, of the Tom Pearson team.

They did an amazing job and it turned out better than we ever imagined. They were always extremely professional and pleasant to work with. Since it was such a large project they were there almost every day for 4 months and were almost like part of the family! Every evening their work area was spotless along with the area they stored their materials in the garage. They were prompt every morning and ready to start. They have returned to make a few adjustments and stand behind all of their work. I would recommend them for any work!

Mr. Pearson finally called back after my secod message and left me a message saying that my project was too small - they don't do small projects. I'm sort of surprised without actually hearing what both projects entailed that he had any idea what the scope of our project was (big or small). Ultimately I guess he missed out on a 200k reno inside our home because I'm not going to make an effort to contact him again. If they don't do home renovations at all then someone needs to update their description on Angie's List.
Description of Work: I left a voice mail on two different days asking for a call back about both a small structural project we needed to get done right away, but also mentioned that we were going to start on a complete home renovation soon and needed a bid for that project.

We regret this member was disappointed that our schedule would not accommodate an urgent, small project at this time. The member needed to get this done right away, and we were not in a position to be able to do it right away. In order to maintain excellent quality and service to current clients, we prioritize our workload to maintain our project schedules for current projects already underway. We recognize that this means at times we may miss out on opportunities with new clients, as in this case. We wish the member well with their project.

The project was wonderful. We had plans done by an architect and when Tom was done everything was exactly as we envisioned. His crew was always polite and respectful. Any questions or issues were immediately addressed. The project was on time and within our quoted budget. We have heard so many horror stories about remodeling and we experienced none of that. It was as stress free as something like this can be.
Description of Work: We had our old family room remodeled into an office/playroom. We then had a large family room added to the back of the house connecting our dining and kitchen into one large space. The project included new hardwood floors that match the original hardwoods in our home, custom fireplace and built in cabinets/shelves, new HVAC, lighting, painting, etc,

Tom was friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. We have a rec room in our home that was previously a 2-car garage and was converted to living space long before we lived here. The exterior wall that used to house the garage door had begun to deteriorate and we had issues with water infiltration. It also had a large bay window that was poorly insulated, an exterior door that was locked and never used, a textured ceiling with slight water damage, and carpet that was installed on top of the old un-level concrete garage floor. Tom assessed the issues and brought in a crew to demolish the old exterior wall, poor a new footer, and build a new wall complete with 2 new double hung windows, no door, and better waterproofing. The guys who were at our house every day were polite, friendly, respectful, and worked quickly. The mason did a great job keying in the new brick so that it matches the rest of our house. Toward the end of the wall project we decided to have them laminate new drywall onto the ceiling so as to create a smooth surface, and also to build a new subfloor in order to insulate and level the floor. Tom adjusted easily to the expansion of the project and everything got done quickly. He was also willing to let us help so as to keep our costs down, allowing us to do our own insulation, trim, paint, and carpet. Having tackled several large-scale projects in this and previous homes, this one goes down as one of the smoothest, most painless ones yet thanks to Tom's management and both his and his crew's quick and thorough work.
Description of Work: Tom and his crew demolished, rebuilt, and waterproofed a large exterior brick wall with 2 windows, and in the same room they redid our ceiling and built up a new subfloor.

He was very professional. He came out and did the estimate, but that was it. He had the crew that did the work and his brother was like the foreman. At the time, I thought it was just a little bit expensive, but I don't remember what it was since it was 5 or 6 years ago. It was expensive, but it had worked out. They did pretty good. He just wasn't that involved whereas the Buckland guy was here almost everyday and did a lot of stuff.

Overall, it went well. We had a small issue with scheduling. On the appointed time, Toom was a "no-show." However, he called me and apologized profusely. We set another time and he was then prompt. Once Tom arrived, he listened to me tell him what we needed as far as home renovation is concerned. He took some measurements, walked around our property, and gave me a high-level "guesstimate" as to what our addition would cost. He was thorough in explaining the issues he would face regarding our property lines and the current layout of the house on our land. Although he said he would be happy to go back to his office and prepare a formal estimate, he kindly warned me of extra expenses due to our land limitations. We decided not to go forward on the project. Overall, I thought Tom was polite, friendly, and helpful. Although he was a "no-show" for the first appointment, the way he handled the mistake was professional. It would not have kept me from working with him.

Summing up the work that Tom did is easy. In the end the project turned out better than we expected and we had pretty high hopes going into the project. This was an extensive remodeling with walls removed, plumbing and electrical relocated and floors replaced. Tom's crew provided demolition of the existing environment and then provided carpentry services to frame the new walls. After new drywall was installed, Tom's crew was back to provide new trim carpentry which is just beautiful. Along the way Tom insures the quality of the entire job by enlisting top quality sub-contractors to do the work his crew is not specialized in. Tom worked with us to incorporate our design preferences and smoothly blend them into the architect's vision of the project. This was about a 90 day project from start to finish and we were amazed at how nicely the coordination of contractors took place. I would use Tom again for any suitable project I had in mind and would not hesitate to recommend his services to anyone.
Description of Work: Thomas Pearson provided us with complete contracting services in the remodeling of our kitchen, dining room, family room and living room. This job involved pretty much the entire first floor of our home, including the stairway leading up to the second floor. Tom worked with us to get an architect to design just what we wanted and then used his crew as well as a number of sub-contractors to perform all of the necessary work.

We were happy to deliver to the member a total transformation of their home. The members had been developing their ideas and plans for some time. By working with them closely, we were able to match their wishes. To carry the arts and crafts theme throughout the first floor, quarter-sawn cabinets and a hand-scraped wood floor were installed. Finish carpentry included new columns, newel post, balusters, as well as doors and trim consistent with the theme. We are very proud of this project.

The project went great! The craftsmanship is amazing, and we absolutely love the porch! The team was wonderful to work with; they genuinely cared about our opinions, provided great suggestions, and took great pride in their work. We really enjoyed working with and knowing them. Details of the porch: Each post is wrapped in cedar. We were planning to paint all of the posts originally, but elected to stain the inside once we saw the beauty of the wood and craftsmanship. The ceiling was also very difficult with the vaulting and beadboard, but it was constructed to perfection. The floor is deckboard, for we like the look of that and the extra ventilation it provides. Tom had a great idea of screening under the floor boards to protect from bugs. Therefore, the space is completely protected. We are looking forward to working with the team again soon on our next project.
Description of Work: We added a 16x24 screened porch to the back of our home. The work included all of the carpentry, electrical work (including cable routing), roof, soffits and gutters, a closet build, and screening. The ceiling is vaulted and finished in beadboard. We elected to do our own finish work (staining and painting) in order to save money.
