Our goal for both our commercial and residential clients is to integrate the design of the structure with the landscape to create one harmonious design.
"At first Mark was responsive and replied quickly to my request for a landscape/hardscape bid. We set the initial meeting for Saturday Jan. 9th. Mark cancelled because of a family issue which we understood. We rescheduled for Wednesday January 13th. During our initial meeting Mark appeared very competent and confident. He said he'd have us a quote for our large project by the following Wednesday, Jan. the 20th. I sent Mark two emails on January 21st and 25th following up about the quote and he did not respond to either! I called him on January 28th and to my surprise he answered his phone and seemed very annoyed that I was questioning him about the missing quote and missed deadline that HE set. Mark said he was busy and he'd get it to me within the next couple days. I texted Mark on January 31st and asked if he was still planning on sending the quote and when? Mark replied, "yes. we have been dealing with snow. will have it to you no later than Wednesday (Feb 3rd)." We FINALLY received the quote on February 2nd and it was only partially complete. He only quoted us for the front house exterior portion and completely left off the extensive landscaping and backyard living space portions! Furthermore, the drawing he provided for the front stone installation was wrong. He had the stone on the wrong section of our house. This only added to our enormous frustration with Mark. Not only was his quote two weeks past the deadline, but it was also only partially complete, and the part that was done was wrong!! He said he could get us the rest of the quote by the following Monday the 8th. You guessed it, he never did!! My wife called him on Friday February 12th and told him that he needed to get us the quote by 5pm that day or we were moving on. He never replied. In summary, Mark started off professional and seemed competent. After our initial meeting he dropped the ball continuously. He missed deadline after deadline after deadline. He didn't respond to numerous emails, and even seemed annoyed when we talked on the phone and I questioned the status of the quote that he failed to send us within the timeframe that he established. This was a big project that he missed out on. We are going with another contractor and would never recommend Mark or his company based on his terrible customer service and lack of responsiveness. Mark, it will be interesting to see how you respond to this review. I read other negative reviews and you seem to get very defensive and even blame the customer. In this case you're the only one to blame. I have everything documented and you failed to come through for us multiple times. If you're too busy to take on large projects than be up front and do not string the customer along missed deadline after missed deadline. My guess is your response to this review will be timely, unlike your quotes."

Mulch costs anywhere from $30 to $150 per cubic yard, depending on the type you choose. On the inexpensive end, red and black mulch are about $35 to $40 per cubic yard, and are typically made from recycled waste wood like shredded old pallets or deck material. Cedar, cypress, and rubber mulch cost anywhere from $100 to $120 per cubic yard. A pro can help you determine the type of mulch most suitable for your landscaping needs.
Topsoil costs from $12 to $55 per cubic yard, depending on the type you choose. For example, screened black dirt will cost about $15 per cubic yard. Loam (soil composed of sand, silt, and clay) costs about $17 per cubic yard. Standard screened topsoil costs about $20 per cubic yard. The type of topsoil you need depends on your landscaping plans.
Topsoil should go down first. If the topsoil is next to your house, make sure the grade slopes away from the house to keep water from pooling against your foundation and possibly leaking into your basement or crawl space. Don’t cover your decorative landscape mulch with topsoil as that defeats the purpose of laying down the mulch. If you’re trying to create a certain soil composition to improve plant growth, you’ll likely want compost mixed into the topsoil instead of mulch. Over time, any decorative wood mulch will simply decompose under the topsoil.
No, mulch itself does not necessarily attract termites even though it’s usually made of shredded wood. Some types of mulch like cedar or cypress resist termites because they’re toxic or unappetizing to the wood munchers. However, when the mulch is deep enough, say three inches or more, it creates a perfect habitat for insects of all kinds to build nests.
Although it’s not required to lay anything under mulch, it can help to put landscape fabric or plastic weed barrier down and lay mulch on top. The barrier helps keep weeds from growing up through your mulch. It also helps keep rodents and insects from burrowing into the ground underneath.
