Things went fantastic. Another company was doing the cleaning and restoration that Jake had referred me to. They got me scheduled and on time service that is very refreshing to me in the home repair business. William was the main plumber that did the work and could not have been nicer and more professional. He fixed the problem and added metal support bands under the pipe he worked on to keep a very costly expense from happening again. For the time and trouble he went to, I am grateful he was so fair on his pricing also. I would reuse and refer Jake's to anyone. Definitely an A+ company.

Jake has been in our homes since 2005. He has always represented himself with the utmost professionalism every time i see him. I read some of his negative reviews and there seems to be a theme.. warranty companies... I have NEVER had an issue with him or his work. Do not hesitate to call him for your service needs. I will never need another HVAC company.

He's conscientious. He custom made a thermal heat pump because we had a real old one. They worked at it again and again. Jake made sure he came out here himself. They just worked at it all the time until they got it right. He's very thorough in his work. We have insurance so we paid $75 and then the insurance took care of the rest. He customized it and made sure that it fit with the rest of the stuff that was there that he could use and it works well. They did a good job and we were real impressed.

Waste of time, stupid, lazy...see above!
Description of Work: In a word, AWFUL!! In another word, RIPOFF!! When we bought our house in Anderson, the seller threw in one those home warranty options that, thankfully, we didn't pay for but considered it a bonus. My personal opinion is that anything like that is never a savings because they hire and contract with "bottom of the barrel in skill and professionalism" vendors to save a buck. But what the heck, they were paying for it so okay. Not long after we moved in, we were constantly overcome with disgusting sewer gas smells whenever we showered, did laundry or dishes. We call the home warranty service and they send this vendor out. We basically paid the guy our portion of the deductible only to have him do NOTHING but tell us that it was the City of Anderson's responsibility. Not knowing anything about this type of problem, we called the city and they sent techs out on 3 occasions to "deodorize the sewer". That did absolutely nothing, too and we are still overcome with this putrid, disgusting smell of sewer in our home. JAKE'S IS A JOKE AND A RIPOFF! I found a guy on YouTube who addresses this problem and remedies with certain plumbing fixtures. I can't believe I forked over $75.00 to this ripoff clown. I will not even use my home warranty because I do not trust them at all but will look on Angie's list to find a plumber with high ratings and great comments. Jake's - I hope your laziness and lies make your business go down the drain. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!!

VERY PROFESSIONAL AND DID A TOP NOTCH JOB!DO NOT USE JAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Description of Work: DO NOT USE THIS CO.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I JOINED ANGIES LIST TO WARN PEOPLE OF THE TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE I HAD. THIS COMPANY CAME TO MY HOUSE TO INSTALL A NEW FURNACE AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST $500 TO INSTALL THE FURNACE. I WAS ALSO TOLD IT WOULD TAKE LESS THAN A DAY TO DO THIS, WELL AFTER 3 WEEKS THEY WERE STILL WORKING ON IT. THIS IS WINTER AND WE DID NOT HAVE HEAT FOR THE FULL 3 WEEKS. THIS IS NOT THE WORST, WHEN INSTALLED THE EXHAUST WAS VENTED INTO THE HOUSE INSTEAD OF GOING OUTSIDE. (THEY COULD OF KILLED US) ALSO THE DRAIN WAS HOOKED UP WRONG AND WATER WAS ALL OVER THE FLOOR AND DAMAGED THE WALL WHERE THE WATER WENT DOWN.

They were contracted by HMS Home Warranty to fix my A/C unit. They were out 4 times between 9/2/11 and 10/25/11, making various repairs, none of which were solving the problem. I caught them in lies twice..... In the first instance, they said they had contacted HMS to authorize further work but that HMS said it could not be approved. I called HMS to confirm this, and they had received no call. In the second instance, they had scheduled an appointment to be at my home "in the afternoon." At 3:40pm I received a call from them stating they were running behind, but would still be there that day. There was someone home all day, and they never showed. The next day, I received a call from HMS stating that Jake's had called and said they couldn't do the repair the previous day because no one was home. I made an appeal to HMS to stop using Jake's for my problem and go to another vendor. That vendor came the next day, made a minor adjustment and cleaned a condenser coil that was completely plugged with leaves and debris, and my problem was solved.

Jake's Heating, Air, and Plumbing of Knightstown was contracted by HSA Home Warranty to provide service for a clogged kitchen drain at our recently-acquired Merdian-Kessler (read: older plumbing) home. The technician, Tom, was scheduled to arrive between 1 and 4 PM. He called prior to arriving and showed up at 12:50. The technician took a look at the kitchen sink and made a couple attempts to clear the drain using a manual snake. Per the work order and quot;checked kitchen drain, ran cable in drain several times with no success.and quot; The technician informed us that the clog was very difficult and recommended that the drain be hydro-jetted, although he knew of nobody who provides this service in the area. This service call was through a home warranty company. After discussion between the technician and the warranty company, the warranty company determined that it would not cover the claim. We paid the $75 deductible and the technician left. The technician spent approximately 45 minutes on-site (including the time spent consulting with the warranty company). After the technician left, I contacted an Angies List Super Service Award winning plumbing company (I will be posting a separate review regarding that experience) that we normally call for plumbing services. They came out within 2 hours. Their technician utilized a drain machine (a power snake) and was able to clear the clog, which was not far down the line, without complication.

Reasonable prices, and friendly employees.
Description of Work: We called because our air conditioner went out and our home warranty has us use their company. Service was excellent, quickly pinpointed the problem. We have since used them for yearly air and furnace inspection and maintenance and have been pleased with the knowledge; they found a problem with our furnace that had it not been found could have resulted in a fire.

This was recently purchased home, and I had a home warranty. The Home Warranty (HSA) made me use this plumber. The plumber arrived, and he looked at the leaking areas. He pushed in the plaster in my wall cabinet and was going to put the refuse on my floor...I brought him a trash bag....the first big red flag. Then he proceeded to look in my bathroom which was above the china cabinet. He found the problem. Apparently the previous home owner had some work done on the bath tub and the sealant was not properly installed. The plumber replaced the sealant. He did not offer to clean up the mess he created, and he had the audacity to tell me that the HSA would most likely not pay for his service because it wasn't part of my contract. Since when had he read my contract. I called the HSA, and my service was covered. I would never use these people again. After the fact, I checked Angie's List and saw that they received terrible scores. I forwarded that information to the Home Warranty Company.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have recently had a company meeting and talked to our techs about these concerns. To take care of the concerns you are stating we now stock trash bags in our vehicles. As far as the Tech letting you know the insurance company may not cover the repair: We have come to find over the years that many warranty companies do not cover repairs like this. We do not like our customers to be blindsided by extra cost they may not be aware of. Thank you for your time for bringing this to our attention. Jake's Heating, Air, and Plumbing.

This company was selected by my home warranty (Total Protect). Company said they would show up between the time window of 1-5. However, they showed up 90 minutes early and claimed I did not show up at 1220 PM. I was very angry with them because I had signed up for the whole afternoon off from work, and they refused to re-send the plumber until I made it clear I signed up for the afternoon off, having shown up 15 minutes before the 1 to 5 window. They finally relented and send the plumber in. To be fair, they did try to contact me but I was not available in the morning due to client interviews at my day job. Company failed to diagonis the problem, claiming they needed to break the floor to find the case of the problem. Home warranty refused to pay for the idea ot break the floor. However, the water leaked into my neigbhors condo. Second opionon provided by Bell Plumbing showed the problem to be a water hose kicked off by a clogged drain which also backed into my air conditioner. Problem resolved and I am now requesting reinmbursement from the contractor and the Home Warranty people.

This is the second report that I'm submitting for Jake's. My furnace was squeaking and technicians have been to my house 5 times in the last 2 months and the issue is worse than when we began. I was forced to use Jake's through AHS. The initial calls were handled well, they were punctual and polite. The tech could not find the source of the squeaking and repaired a few holes with tape. The sound was getting worse and Jake's sent out a different tech, who was able to diagnose the issue of a worn out inducer motor, causing the ball bearings to squeak. On the 4th visit, the original tech came in and replace the motor. Within 15 minutes of his departure, my furnace developed a violent vibration that can be felt throughout the house. With another call to AHS, the same tech came back to diagnose the problem. He admitted that he did not know what it was, implied that it was normal operation, which is impossible, and then said that he would be back with another inducer motor the following day. I followed up with AHS, which was reporting that the issue was resolved. Basically Jake's lied to AHS. At this point, I believe Jake employs incompetent technicians who lied to both me and my warranty company. AHS is sending a different company out to finish this repair. I DO NOT recommend that anyone use Jake's. Essentially, I feel that they further broke my furnace. They should not be trusted with your equipment either.

The service man was at my house, parked in my drive on Nov 9th and 11th prior to 8:00 Am. He actually rang my bell at 7:50 AM on a 8 to 12 window, without a courtesy call. After he installed the part on the 11th I noticed that the drainage spout was leaking. So I brought it to his attention and he tightened it. I had someone else service my furnace that same day, which is right next to my water heater. He made me aware that water heater was making a hissing noise because it was constantly heating and the other pipe that extends from the top of water heater had a constant drip of hot water. I called the warranty company and they notified Jake's. They called and scheduled another appointment for Thursday afternoon. I waited all day to hear from them. So after 4:30 I called Jake's and reached their voice mail. Then I contacted AHS and told them that I hadn't heard from Jake's. After a long discussion about what the cut off point for (afternoon) was they tried to contact Jake's while placing me on hold. While on hold Jake's contacted me and said that they got tied up and were on the way. It was almost 6:00PM when they arrived at my house. He tried to give me excuses but I told him that he should tell them to the warranty company. They did not give me a courtesy call to extend the hours beyond afternoon. He had to remove the copper tubing to replace another part on the top of the tank inorder to stop the leak, which did not exist before he serviced my unit. He also splattered gray residue on my walls surrounding the tank, left debri from the pipe sealer on the top of it and water all over the floor surrounding it. I had to wipe down my walls, off the top of the tank, and dry the floor around the water heater.
Description of Work: My hot water heater had a broken rod in it and was previously diagnosed by a plumber. I have AHS which is a warranty company that provides service on most appliances and I pay a premium for that service annually. After I contacted my warranty company they assigned Jake's to my claim. They came out ordered the part,on Nov 9th and returned on the 11th to install it.

Everything was fine - employees were polite and responsive to my phone calls. I have a home warranty and they selected this company. They were nice guys, professional, explained the problem and repaired it quickly. My only small issue was that they gave me an arrival time window of noon-5pm (this is farily standard). I called them a little after 4pm and asked what the status was since I hadn't heard anything and was told we were next on the list. To their credit - they arrived at 4:45pm within their time window. However, we were obviously the last call of the day so I wish they had told me that in advance so I could have planned my work day better and not had to use so much vacation time. Just a minor complaint though because they did show up "on time".

Made a request to my home warranty company for someone to come look at both pieces of equipment. They told me they sent Jake's because they could look at both for only one $50 service charge. The man who came said the furnace wasn't functioning properly because the filter was dirty. I was skeptical, but agreed. He was able to get the warranty company to pay for a new water heater, which was supposed to be installed in a couple days. More than a week later, they finally came to install it. When he arrived, he said the old water heater was installed incorrectly with the hot water going in cold and vice versa. He said he could make sure this one worked properly, but it would mean that to get cold water, I would have to turn on the hot side of the tap and to get hot water, I would need to use the cold spigots. I said there was no way that was going to work. After a bit of arguing and annoyance, he agreed that it could be done the other way ... it was obvious he didn't want to do it that way because it would take a lot more time. Late that evening, I went into the basement and it was leaking. They had to come back out to tighten the fittings. The basement was soaked. Two weeks later, big surprise, the furnace still wasn't working even though I changed the filter and had many new ones handy. It was a coil that needed cleaned and they charged me another service call even though I argued that should have been found the first time. She told me that they have plumbers and HVAC people and never should it have been billed just once because a plumber would not have known what to look for on the furnace. Interesting. I paid it even though I didn't appreciate the hassle of MULTIPLE service calls and felt that should have been told to me the first day. I still don't necessarily agree.
Description of Work: Furnace was not kicking on to keep temperature where thermostat was set. Water heater only provided about 3 minutes of hot water. Requested both be looked at.

I have a home warranty and they selected this contractor, I did not have a choice as to who I could call. I paid a $50 service call (per my home warranty contract). It took them several days to get back to me and finally schedule the plumber to come out to our house. Not a quick turn around time here. The first plumber came out to diagnose a leak that had sprouted in the basement from the bathroom above it. The plumber pulled the toilet and said that it looked ok. He said that the leak was because the septic tank is full. I had another company come out and pump the septic tank. The guy said that the tank was fine and didn't need to be pumped. Yippie... that was a waste. So, the home warranty company sent Jake's back out again since the problem was still happening after the septic tank was full (luckily the home warranty company was nice enough to not charge me another service fee because this was Jake's problem). The second plumber looked at the clean-out on the outside of the house and said that there were roots and dirt in the pipe and that I needed to have it jet cleaned and have a camera run down it. I called another plumbing company and they showed me that years ago, the clean-out had been improperly installed and had shifted off of the pipe below. So, they showed me where the second plumber from Jake's had been digging with his tiny little snake in the dirt on the side of the pipe. He didn't even get his snake into the pipe! After getting quotes from a couple other plumbers, it appears that I need to have the clean-out replaced before I can have the drain cleaned. Jake's Plumbers just don't seem to really know what they're doing and have given me very bad advice.
Description of Work: They didn't really fix anything.

We have a home warranty through a home warranty company, and for whatever reason, they sent a heating and air conditioning outfit out for a plumbing-related service call. The guy was on time, pleasant, and generally took care not get things dirty, but he had no clue how to resolve a plumbing stoppage. He crammed a snake and some other device down both the toilet and the tub drain to attempt to clear the blockage. He claimed to have 100 feet out and couldn't reach the blockage, even though at 100 feet he'd have been way out into the street. As he was working, he managed to flood a few inches of water into our laundry room, and scratched the porcelain in the toilet pretty bad. After 4.5 hours, he quit, and called the home warranty company to try to get another plumber on the job for us, which was nice and the professional thing to do. When the next plumber came out (which is another long story, this time dealing with the home warranty folks), he was able to diagnose and resolve the problem in under 15 minutes. So it wasn't that the job was particularly complicated, it was just that the guy from Jake's had no idea how to get the job done. I do feel badly that he spent so much time trying. Fortunately for me, I did not have to pay him for the service call.

Jake and his employees were wonderful to work with on this project. The cost of the repairs were covered under a home warranty so the $75 only reflects my portion of the cost. Jake was great in trying to get the warranty company moving so my repairs were done as quickly as possible. The crew did a great job, left my house clean and COOL!
Description of Work: Replaced outside air conditioning unit and coils in furnace.
