Description of Work: I had a propane leak that the propane company couldn't find, I have used Jakes for many years now and he has NEVER let me down. He found and fixed the leak promptly which I really needed since it was winter. My hat is off to you Jake for many great years of service. Sincerely a VERY satisfied customer.

Description of Work: They were very patient, answered all my questions, and came back out right away if I had even a slight concern about something. We had them do a new heat pump, furnace, and ductwork. Their pricing is also very competitive.

Description of Work: We had a plubming leak on the home we just purchased. As part of my residential home warranty, I called the warranty services company and they directed me to use Jakes. The service person from Jakes came out and immediately told me (before he looked at the problem) that "it was going to be very difficult to get the warranty company to pay out." Then he proceeded to look at my problem, go out to his van and talk to the warranty company for an extended period of time out of my presence. Then he came back in and advised me they weren't going to cover my expense but he could fix it for me today for $800. I told him I wasn't comfortable with his level of professionalism and didn't feel this was an $800 repair and sent him away. Then Jakes proceeded to invoice me for $80 for a trip charge. I contacted another plubmer and got the same repair made for $480. | |My issue is that this appears to be a racket. The warranty company dispatches a plumber who makes a living on getting the trip charge and overpricing repairs; while the warranty company keeps the premium you paid for the warranty with no payout.

Description of Work: I have had Jake's to my house in the past before being an Angie's List subscriber. They took care of a problem with my boiler under a home warranty and expertly fixed a problem that another company could not. However, I called Jake's out again about 2 years ago for a problem with a wall heater in a three season room. It was obviously old, and the engine had seized. They couldn't fix it, but I of course had to pay the service fee. They were supposed to email me a quote for a new one and never did. I called to follow up and they said they would send it, and still nothing. This time around, I had the same problem with my boiler that they had fixed 5 years ago, so I thought it was worth calling them another time. I asked about the service fee and was told it was $80. The tech came out. He was a nice guy, seemed to want to help, but could not locate any problem and of course the banging noise would not occur while he was here. He tried to put some pipe insulation around a few pipes thinking that was the cause. He was here fiddling with it for 50 minutes. He couldn't find anything wrong and therefore didn't fix anything. I knew I'd still have to pay to have him come, but he tried to charge me $150. I said I was told it would be $80. He said well I've been here quite a while. I said a service call doesn't come with the first hour of diagnosis/service? He said he thought he'd been there an hour and a half. I reminded him when he arrived and then he agreed with me that it was shy of an hour. He said ok...well....it'll be $80. Of course, the same night after he'd been there, it began banging again. So I paid $80 for nothing, but would have paid much more had i not questioned it. I think two strikes is enough - so I'll have to find someone else.

Description of Work: My furnace had gone out in the dead of winter and I was working out of town. I needed to get heat on for my wife and two young daughters. Jakes came right out and got the heat back on. I also told them about the noisy fan. They had to order that and came back in less than a week to replace it. My furnace has been running like new ever since and it's probably as old as the house, 40 years? They fixed the problems and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need and they were very resonably priced.
