This company was canvassing our neighbor offering to give estimates. When they called us a few days later the man on the phone was very aggressive and did not want to take no for an answer. I will never use this company or any company that uses high pressure tactics.

We are doing a lot of home improvement right now. They came out several times before to make sure they had the right measurements. All the guys have been really great. They had a great price too. We did try other places to see what their prices were, but we really liked White Oak Construction better. It was a really nice experience. We hope to use them again.

THE CREW ARRIVED PROMPTLY EVERY DAY AND CLEANED UP DAILY, THEY STARTED ON A MONDAY AND FINISHED THE SAME WEEK ON FRIDAY BY NOON. AFTER THEY LEFT I WAS NOT CONTINUALLY FINDING SCRAPS AROUND THE YARD LIKE I HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH HOUSING CONTRACTORS IN THE PAST.
Description of Work: THEY REPLACED THE SIDING ON THE HOUSE AND WRAPPED ALL THE WINDOWS IN DURABLE VINYL. THE WORK WAS DONE VERY PROFESSIONALLY. I HAVE HAD MANY COMPLIMENTS ON THE NEW APPEARANCE OF OUR HOME.
We were very pleased overall. The windows were installed timely, with no problems. We really like the new window style. The old gutters were removed without problems. When the new gutters were installed, they made sure they were wide enough to handle the amount of rain in certain problem areas. The woodwork looked good in the end, but there were a number of miscommunications with the provider and myself, and also from one employee to another. The company and I had different ideas of which trim boards were rotten, and therefore needing replaced, as per our contract. The response time was very good for someone to come out and talk to me about the problems. At the end of their work, all pieces of wood that I had expected to be replaced were replaced. And a foreman made sure to meet me and do a through walkthrough, and be sure I was satisfied.
Description of Work: 4 New windows installed. New gutters/downspouts installed. Some woodwork/exterior trim removed and replaced.

We got the work done in May by another company. The gentleman came out and gave us three quotes for vinyl siding. The first one was $59000 to put vinyl siding all on our house and none of the wood would have to come off. They would just cover it up. If we got the manager’s special, it would have been $39000 to put vinyl siding on our house. Again it would have been just covered up. If we got a different type of siding and the manager’s special with the advertising in the front yard, they would have got it down to $26000 for vinyl siding on our house. We chose not to do it. Instead we just got the wood that’s presently on our house repaired and painted. So that worked out really well for us. I thought that they were trying to sell vinyl siding to us. They were just so outrageously high. They had a display of what they had with them. They had two different types of sidings. One was a little thin with a little piece of insulation in the back and the other piece with the vinyl siding had a secret piece of insulation in the back. So we had a choice of those two. They were really pushing the vinyl siding on us and they didn’t even offer us the woods. The gentleman who came out and gave us the estimate was really nice. He presented it really well and got my attention but it was just so expensive. So we did not even consider it. We only talked to them one time and there was no problem in having them come out to give us an estimate at all. They were punctual. They were here right on ten for the estimate for that one time. When they first came out they were very professional but after a while when they relaxed and talked, it was more like a friendly session. So they were very professional and I’m sure they would have kept that up. My husband and I are not like that. We like to relax and talk. We will not use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: We got an estimate from White Oak Construction. We did not use their services. They came out in March or so to give us an estimate for the siding on our house.

We were solicited by two pleasant young men who were canvassing the neighborhood. I made an appointment for someone to come out in a few days to give an estimate for adding a window in a wall, where there was not one before. Later, I received a call indicating that both my wife and I needed to be there for the estimate (in order to get the promotional discount). This was dissappointing, since I had made the appointment for a time that I could be there, but not my wife. The guy on the phone (Mike) was initially a bit brusk, but later pleasant when I explained that no one had told us that both my wife and I needed to be there. We decided to put things off for a few weeks, until we could find a convenient time for both of us. Finally, we made an appointment, approximately 1 week in advance, for tonight, Tuesday, 9/6/2011 at 6:30PM, a time that both my wife and I put on our calenders. I received a call the next day asking if we could move the time to that day at 2:30PM, but I confirmed with them that 9/6 at 6:30PM was the first time we would both be available. We then received a call on Saturday 9/3 to confirm the appointment (a second time). Tonight, at around 6:15 both my wife and I were hurrying home to be on time for the appointment. I received a call from Mike indicating that the fellow giving the estimate would be around 15 minutes late. I said that would be fine, but that I would need to leave by around 7:30 or 7:45. He was a bit upset, despite that fact that no-one told me that the appointment would take more than 1 hour. Mike then called me back 10 minutes later to tell me that the guy might be able to make it by 7PM, but that since we would not be able to provide 1.5 hours of our time, they would have to cancel. We wanted to still have the appointment that night, so I made arrangements to move my later plans to be much later. We discussed with Mike, who then said that now the earliest someone could make it was 8:30PM. He tried to convince me for another day, but we decided it was not worth dealing with them. We'll choose another contractor for our windows
Description of Work: Appointment for estimate canceled after confirming twice.
Great job with installation, replacement windows and frames are high quality and well insulated, custom sized and fitted the windows.

We did not use them because the guy that did the estimate was very pushy. We wanted to look around and make sure that was what we wanted to do and try other places, but he wanted us to sign something that night. He walked away mad at us that night and made us feel bad because we wouldn’t sign something that night.

These things are fantastic. Our windows were the 1951 original alum windows and these all open very nicely and are sealed properly and the screens move to either side of the window so our dog won't stick her nose through them. I debated on the full screen for top and bottom on double hung because my parents have that type and I was really happy that I didn't go that route. The amount of light and clear color that you get from the plain glass in amazing. I used to get headaches inside because the sun was so bright but since these windows have the energy efficient stuff in them my headaches are gone. Our house stays cooler when it's bright outside, it always used to heat up on sunny days and now my energy bills are being saved by these new windows. They guys were so good at explaining how they were hanging them and what the different pieces were that they were putting in and asked me to look at all of the windows before they put in the expanding foam, the trim and even the caulk process all had my thumbs up before they left. We already know that if we need doors or a new roof, we are calling White Oak again because they have been great to us. They were all professional from Sales through the Installers and clean up was spotless. Just really great service all around. Keep up the GREAT work!!!!!!
Description of Work: In 2010 White Oak did all our siding and we were so pleased that later that year they replaced 4 huge pictures windows for us and then here in 2011 we finished up with our last 12 double hung windows.

We like the product that they installed. They worked very quickly. They were very clean. They cleaned up after themselves. They got the work done in a day, and I thought that was pretty amazing. We were really happy with the work, but we wonder if they were a little expensive now that we look back on it. We might use them in the future, but we would check into more prices. Based on their workmanship, we would use them again.
Description of Work: I hired White Oak Construction to replace 17 windows.
The team arrived promptly with the foreman introducing each of the employees. We were informed of each step of the process and asked if we had any questions before any work began. Once started, we watched the work progress and could see that they took great care in not distrubing existing landscape work and were very friendly. All work was completed within the pre arranged time frame. Once completed, we were invited to examine all work prior to signing any completion papers. Even then, after they had left, I noticed a slight error in the replacement of the trim around the tripple windows. Althought I had signed off on the completion, they still came back and fixed the error within 24 hours of my call to their home office. Very professional and we couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: We had our front door with side lights, storm door, and tripple windows replaced from the originals installed by the home builder. The front door was not installed properly causing excessive drafts and movement on the foundation. The tripple windows were always drafty. White Oak Construction replaced all items with much better products resulting in the elimination of drafts and a tremendous savings on our heating bills this winter. The crew arrived promptly on the date agreed to. They were very curtious to my wife and explained in detail exactly what they were doing. Additionally, they had agreed to replace the cedar facing which had begun to rot. All work was performed excepetionally within a two day time frame.
Our experience was excellent. We were surprised to see only two guys show up, and they told us they would be done the same day, so we were also a little skeptical. When they came, it was below freezing outside, so we figured our house would be freezing by the time they finished. Then they got started... my wife and I were both really impressed with how they worked; very professional, and completely thorough. They did all of the outside work first, then just popped the old windows out, and put the new ones right in - it stayed warm in the house, because they did it so fast. The area around each window was cleaned up as they went, so there was virtually no mess. I let the head carpenter, Chuck, know how much we appreciated the way they worked, and he told us that White Oak is really a good company; "they are good to their employees and good to their customers." He also said that if we liked their work, we would really appreciate their customer service. We haven't had to use the customer service for anything, but judging by what we saw, and the quality of the window, we're taking his word for it. I was a carpenter for 12 years, and have never been on this side of a job. Needless to say, I was nervous about having somebody else work on my house; it is a big, old house, with all original woodwork, inside and out. After this experience, I am sure that we will use them again. We're having 4 more windows put in after tax-time, and might have them do some roof / awning work in the spring. If you are as nervous as I was about having somebody rip a hole in your wall in the middle of winter, all I can say is that these guys are the ones to call for the job. The windows look fantastic, inside and out, and we can tell a HUGE difference in the temperature inside.
Description of Work: Replaced 6 windows; 3 of which are huge. Replaced deteriorated window sill.

A representative came out to give us an estimate. He was plain-spoken, professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and personable. He explained the windows thoroughly and was genuinely concerned that we understood what he was telling us about the windows and how they would be installed. I didn't particularly care for how the estimate was presented to us: we had to commit to the deal that day. The price was reasonable, so we went ahead with it, but I would have felt quite a bit more comfortable about the decision had he given us a day or two to verify some things before signing. White Oak is a reputable company, and I really don't believe they should feel the need to require a commitment on the spot like that. The windows were ready right around when I expected them to be. We got a phone call to arrange a time for the work to be done. Two men arrived at the house on time, ready and equipped to get the job done. They were very efficient with their time and mine. They patiently answered all my questions (I had many) about the work. They were skillful and clean, and very conscientiously cleaned up after themselves. I did not have to do any cleanup after they left. They removed and hauled away the old windows. Insulation and caulking was expertly done; the finishing and trim looks much nicer than the old windows. They checked the operation of the windows, and went over the operation with me so that I was aware of all the features. They left information behind for my reference. The windows came with a (non-transferrable) lifetime warranty; I am comfortable knowing that I can call White Oak with problems and they'll address them promptly and professionally. Before, during, and after the sale, White Oak demonstrated in word and deed that we are a valued customer. That's important to me, as it shows that they know how to treat customers well.

They were good and their presentation was very professional. They explained things well. We don't have any problems about the company's potential or their quality. We went with the different contractor because of the price. We did some shopping and we found out, that we can get the same work done for quite a lesser price. They were good in responding. We didn't have to wait for a long time; they were on time and very punctual. I don't have any negative things to say about them. I suppose I would have used them, if the price had been good, or at least I would have given them another chance.

The project went very smoothly with no surprises. Communication with the project leader was easy and timely. The design process went smoothly as well. The remodel took about a week and a half total, from tear-out of the old material to finished room. This project covered the entire range of activities from framing a wall and door, to cabinetry, plumbing, tile flooring, staining trim and painting ceiling/walls, etc. There were a few things that we wanted done differently as the project progressed and White Oak accommodated our requests; when we pointed out minor problems they were quick to remedy them. The project leader checked in every day on the progress and was on site most of the time. We felt confident that our expectations would be met, even when we were not available to answer questions.
Description of Work: Master bathroom remodel. Complete tear out of old bathroom (down to studs). Installed new drywall, cabinetry, shower, all plumbing fixtures, electrical, flooring, doors, paint, etc. Included addition of cabinet/flooring/paint in walk in closet.

I was happy with the price. I was first approached by someone going door to door in the neighborhood making people aware about their products. I gave them my name and phone number, and was contacted to set up an appointment for a sales person to come out to my home. They came out and explained their product, and showed us what they looked like. They arrived very promptly. We liked what they had to offer, so we went ahead and had the windows replaced. I would recommend them to other people. I liked the quality of their product. I wasn't here when they installed them, but according to my husband, it was a very easy installation. They got the job done in less than a day. The price is comparable to anyone who is dealing in quality windows. They were very responsive.

We were impressed with White Oak's window, but totally turned off by their sales pitch. After the presentation, the salesman claimed not to be a "salesman," but part of the "advertising" department and said they would give us a "special" price if we would purchase our windows (we needed 7) from them within 90 days. After the 90 days, that price was supposed to double. Their "estimate" for 7 vinyl windows was $5,000, and up to $10,000 if we didn't take advantage of this wonderful offer in 90 days. We told them we thought that if we called them after 90 days, we would still get the $5,000 price. This turned us off totally - this company, which has decent ratings here, is doing itself a great disservice by using this sales tactic - unfortunately, I imagine it works on some potential buyers or they wouldn't be doing it. They talked themselves right out of a sale.
Description of Work: Not sure of the exact day they came - we received no written estimate. No work was performed - they blew the sale. See below.

This team did a great job from start to finish. They were no "slap it together" group of guys working on our house. Every little piece was detailed out to the tee. My dad was at the house as an "adviser" if they needed it and he even stated that these guys took their time to get it done with extreme care. Even with them taking their time, it was done in the allotted time that the sales guy said it would be. They even found ants in our front porch and stopped that section to call us, let us treat the house and then gave us another quote to fix that portion which we had them do. These guys were a class act on our house and I cannot wait to get the money together to have them come back and do windows for us. That's next on the list.
Description of Work: Our house had wood eaves that needed painted along with very old alum siding on it. The wood was rotting in some places of the sides and underneath the eaves and these guys came out without pressuring us to sign that night. They did tell us exactly what we were getting and wrote it all down. We picked out the color, set the date and within a few weeks ahead of when they thought they would start, they were calling to say they were ready.

UPDATEe: Mr. Lupino, VP of White Oak, and I struck a deal where they build a new window in beige and installed it for $1200.00. Mr. Lupino was extremely professional, and I felt like his deal, while not addressing the root morality of the issue, was "fair enough" to be done with the whole fiasco. The installers were very professional, and did an excellent job. I have changed my overall experience from an "F" to a "C." My grandmother was alone in her front yard when a salesman approached her and asked if she would be interested in buying vinyl windows. She told him "No," but the salesman pressured her into giving him her name and number. Later, another salesman called her an convinced her to set a sales appointment. On June 24th, TWO salesmen came to her house, and tried to convince her that she needed replacement windows. After repeatedly telling them that she wasn't interested and couldn't afford it, the salesmen changed tactics and started asking her "if you could replace only one window, which would it be?" With some prompting from the salesmen about how bad the picture window on the front of the house looked (also the largest and therefore most expensive window in the house) she stated that it would be the one she replaced. Once they got her to "pick" a window, they upped their sales pressure to convince her that she could afford it. Eventually, after hours alone with these two salesmen ganging up on her, they convinced her that she could have the window for "only 40 dollars a month." They quickly wrote up her contracts, and after shoving a flurry of paperwork in front of her, were gone. My grandmother, shaken and embarrassed that she was coerced into buying, didn't tell anyone about the purchase, and I found out about it only after visiting her house and seeing a sign in the front yard. After investigating the issue, I have found out that the salesmen sold her a WHITE window (when all of her home and trim is in chocolate brown) with ALL of the additional "energy saving" features they offer (when it will be the only new window in the house) on a CREDIT CARD that they opened in her name (at 13% interest, that she had NO IDEA she had signed up for- she thought it was a payment plan) . To put this into perspective My grandmother is a woman who has not opened her windows in the last 10 years. She is also the thriftiest woman alive- still wearing clothes she bought in the 1970's. Finally, the only thing she has EVER purchased on credit was her home. These predatory salesmen sold her a window that doesn't even match her home, for $1800 (Lowe's carries a similar window for LESS than $500 INSTALLED), on a credit card she didn't even know she was applying for. The three-day cancellation passed before we even knew about the window. Once I saw her contracts, I asked her why she signed up for the credit card instead of paying by check, and she didn't even know she had- she thought they were offering a simple payment plan. At the 13% interest rate they got her at, it will be nearly 5 YEARS before this window will be paid off. I spoke with Sam Lunipo, Vice-President of White Oak, and while he has been responsive as far as speaking with me (hence the "A" rating in that category) he has so far refused to cancel the contract. He did offer to remake and install the window in Beige, or install the White window for $1,200 instead of $1,800- but both of these solutions miss the point entirely- my grandmother was pressured into buying an EXTREMELY high-priced window that she doesn't need and can't afford. If you have older parents or grandparents WARN THEM about speaking with salesmen from WHITE OAK- these salesmen are predators who are looking for vulnerable seniors to gang-up on.
Description of Work: Two White Oak salesmen coerced my grandmother into purchasing ONE $1800 white vinyl replacement window that doesn't match her home, her budget, or her other windows.

I did not get as much light as the older windows. They also did not size the windows properly and they do not open all the way. The windows don't open wide enough and is dangerous if there is ever a fire. I would be stuck in the room since I could not fit through the window. I tried calling the company back more than once and they said they couldn't do anything for me. You would think they would be able to compensate. They said they would come out and they didn't show up most recently. One person came out about two months ago, but nothing was accomplished. I can't just throw the windows away.

Response from White Oak Construction
On December 8,2009 White Oak Construction Installed Windows in the member’s home. Prior to the purchase of the windows the member was shown an actual sample of the window that she was purchasing to have installed in her home. A copy of the contract is enclosed and the member initialed that she had seen a brochure (in this case she received a brochure and saw an actual sample of the window). After installation, the member called our office and said that she "loved the quality of the installation and the windows" however, she did not like the fact the she lost some glass space. It was explained to the member that our window had a thicker stronger frame and that it's typical with all replacement window installations to lose some glass space. At this time the member stated that she would just have to get used to it. The member called back several weeks later and stated that was still not happy with the windows because they did not let in as much light as her old windows did. She swore that we made a mistake and "mis-measured" her windows. At this point I sent out our assistant manager, Quinten Sweet to inspect the installation. Quinten, reported to me that the windows were measured correctly and that they were installed properly. I explained this to the member. Again she said that "she would just have to learn to live with it." The member has since called back repeatedly complaining that we did not correctly measure her windows. I have sent three separate people to her home. The first visit from Quinten Sweet (mentioned above) another visit from a service Technician, who verified Quinten Sweet's evaluation. After the member continued to call, Paul Wilson went to her home. He also verified that the windows were measured and installed correctly. I have explained to the member several times that we did everything correctly. We even met with her daughter at her home, who also verified that the window installation looked correct. I have explained to the member that I am sorry the she doesn’t like the loss of glass space, due the nature of a thicker window frame, however, we can't refund her money or take the windows back, as they are custom made for her window openings. She continues to call and I have told her several times that I am sorry but we did everything by "the book" and I can't do anything about the product we sell. That is why we show a sample prior to purchase. I have included pictures of the old windows and the new windows. You can see that about 1 Yz" of glassspace was lost with the replacement window system. This is typical. I do not feel this complaint is warranted. White Oak Construction fulfilled the contract with the product purchased and with quality installation. We have responded in a timely manner to the member’s complaint three times. I am sorry that she is not happy with the loss of glass space but we can't refund her money or continue to send representatives to her home to verify what three employees have established as proper measurements and a proper professional installation.
