The Wheaton guys were absolutely fantastic. They packed our house so much faster than we could have possibly done ourselves. They made it in two days, which based on my previous experience with movers is an astronomical accomplishment to get 1000 miles in two days. It's probably a coincidence that we were the last one on the truck and the first one off. It worked out, but that's the way it was. It was an absolutely fantastic service. Nothing got broken and nothing got lost. It was just a perfect move. The price was certainly the most expensive, but it wasn't the least expensive. It was a 3-bedroom and 2000 square-foot house. The distance between the two houses were 800-900 miles.

When I decided to move from California to Connecticut last summer, I choose Wheaton based upon combination of price and fact that they said expert at moving pianos. I don?t think my baby grand is that expensive, but it was my father?s and therefore special to us all. When the movers put a bunch of marks in wall of house in Hermosa, was at first willing to write off as fact of owning tall skinny house and big wooden furniture. Even when first saw scratch on piano when they set it up, I wasn?t that upset since it could be fixed. It wasn?t until the claims processed dragged on and on that got frustrated. First there was a problem with paper work since had wanted elected higher coverage due to art work, but broker accidently didn?t file or charge correctly. I tried to explain that at this point just needed basic coverage since piano repair would have been covered even under no deductible plan given its weight and was willing to forgive damage at designation. They pointed out that damaged had been fixed without their review so wouldn?t cover. At this point broker stepped in and I believe was force to pay extra. They then finally sent out estimator/repair man, Mr. Amato. Next I get a check for $50 for repair. I refuse to accept for full coverage. I do try to get to get repair man out to fix it for $300 he quoted while I still deal with matter of $250 deductible. He refuses to deal with me until I release Wheaton. I now bring in my real estate agent to help with getting them to accept damage. Again, broker steps in and gets them to agree to cover (again guessing she foot most of bill). Wheaton now sends $300 check to cover that since that is what I had paid to have the holes patched up and paint touched up after the move out. I explain that want piano fix not checks. Point out that cannot find anything substantial about their Mr. Amato on the internet and as such cannot accept quote of $300 as acceptable. Wheaton refuses to pay for repairs directly. I get independent quote from company I find on Angie?s list and submit to Wheaton. They stand by their quote. I talk to supervisor who says she will talk to repair man and that he would contact me. The following week when I followed up, I was told to call him. When I call him again, he is evasive and somewhat hostile (won?t give estimate of when can fix, won?t talk about next steps etc unless send email first). I finally surrender and go with repair person I found independently. It costs me $450 plus tax to fix damage and to help blend the damage with rest of piano which has suffered light damaged over the years, I pay an additional $150 plus tax for special oiling. So after 4 frustrating months, the piano I inherited from my father was repaired for a grand total $638.10 of which Wheaton ?covered? $300. Bottom line is if no damage is down, company is fine. Workers show up on time and are helpful (even stopped to let me put felt pads on furniture to protect new wooden floors). Driver is prompt and delivered on weekend as requested. Broker was responsive and helpful. The claim people are unfriendly, unresponsive, and uncooperative. Update: After posting the reviews online, Wheaton did contact me and offered me an additional $150. Their listening skills still left a lot to be desired and they wanted me to remove the reviews. Since my old house has now sold and am over rough financial period, I decided to forgo the extra money and leave the review up in the hopes that others will have a better experience.
Description of Work: Wheaton handled my cross country move from Southern California to Stamford, Connecticut. This included the packing of the breakable items. If you do have them pack, take them seriously about they will pack EVERYTHING if not told not moved to special area. I left my yellow pages in a closet, they packed them. Also watch when packing odd items. I made mistake of not watching closely with mantle clock. They taped back close and put in box with just blanket. It didn’t work when first got here. Since had to file claim over damage to piano, filed figure would be fixed at time. Claim on clock was denied as part of saga (see below). Fiddled with back and was able to get running. Wasn’t 100% damage on back was due to tape, so just let this item go. Have your broker come in at end of move to inspect for damage. Don’t wait thinking it might not worth it since by time you get stuff delivered it is likely too late to decide it was worth it.

.Overall it was AWFUL!!!! Do NOT use Wheaton or any of their affiliates, especially Bernardo Moving in San Diego, who unbelievably still maintain an A rating with the BBB.
Description of Work: Their job was to move my household goods from San Diego, CA to Memphis, TN. Their "professional" estimator came to my home TWICE for the estimate and still managed to under estimate by 50%, claiming that I hadn't been forthcoming with all that there was to move! REALLY! I specifically asked him if I would be charged more at time of delivery. His reply was, "Absolutely not. We don't do that type of thing." Yet that's exactly what they did. They charged me $6000 more than originally agreed. At the last minute there were some issues with escrow closing causing me to be delayed getting into my new home by 2 days. Wheaton agreed to work with me so the delivery would take place when I was into my home. By "working" with me they meant that their driver would offer to "store" my belongings on his truck for $250 a day. He called me at 8:00 in the morning saying that I must get back to him by 10:00 a.m. if I wanted to take him up on his offer!!! This is REAL professionalism. Fortunately, the builder gave me access to my ATTACHED 3 car garage, where my possessions were placed, so I didn't need that wonderful offer. I had purchased extra insurance, which I later found out isn't really insurance, yet that's how it was sold to me. I had several broken and damaged pieces. I completed their forms, but was told that because my things were placed in my garage it wasn't covered as they consider that self-storage! That was the last straw. After much insisting Wheaton finally did repair the items. However, it took 4 months before I had everything. Do NOT use Wheaton or any affiliate of the company. I actually went through Bernardo Moving in San Diego, who are Wheaton affiliates. The experience was HORRIBLE!!!!!

The Wheaton Van Lines driver called me the day before the arrival date to let me know they were in the area and what time they would be at my house the following morning. They arrived the scheduled day and on time to load my furniture and personal belongings. The men were very friendly and professional and went to work right away. They took extra time when needed on some furniture pieces to wrap them to make sure they wouldn't be damaged during the move. They worked well together and didn't waste any time. When they were finished they picked up anything that belonged to them and made sure they had everything I wanted them to take. They went over the destination and arrival time with me. They also checked to make sure they had contact information for both me and them. They arrived on the delivery date on time and unloaded everything quickly. I had a location written on all my boxes and they were placed in the correct locations which saved a lot of time for me later when I began unpacking. I will reccommend them to all my friends and family in the future.

I would give the Kansas City branch of Superior/Wheaton my highest reccomendation. We did a same city move where we packed ourselves, but had them move everything from one house to the next. They provided us with boxes and very good tips on moving...free of charge. We bid the move to 5 different companies and I felt that this company gave us the most in terms of service and realistic expectations for our move. They were polite, careful and speedy. In addition, due to an unexpectedly difficult closing, we had to adjust our moving schedule at the last minute. They went above and beyond to work with the new schedule. Their customer service is amazing. I will say this...their quote was higher than the rest. But my personal perception is that they did not lowball us with the idea that the move would come in over estimate. Instead, they gave a realistic price and came in under budget!

We spent $12000 for the moving. They packed everything in the house. They were very efficient. They came in and one guy was assigned for a room. They just worked in their room and everything was packed very well. They were courteous. I didn’t feel funny having them around and I don’t think my husband did either. They seemed like nice guys. They took my car since there was enough room in the back of the truck. We had already arranged to put our car in someone else’s garage and have it transported separately. They asked us to bring it over so that they could put it on the truck. There was not a mark on the car when it arrived down here. Everything was very well packed. When they got down here, the two men and the driver unpacked the entire thing. They were very pleasant and very nice people. We chose them because we felt that their price was pretty good. We had other companies come out ad they were definitely more expensive. If we hadn’t felt comfortable with the representative who came out from Wheaton Van Lines to do the assessment of the price, we wouldn’t have gone with them, but we did. That’s how it turned out. We would recommend them to other people and in fact, we have. We would surely use them again.

From start to finish, they did a great, professional job with a wonderful attitude. Representatives from both Wheaton and their local agents contacted me regularly to check on the progress of the move and my satisfaction with it. On the few occasions when I needed to contact them, I was able to speak with a person immediately rather than having to wait on "hold" or wade through seventeen levels of a phone tree to get to an operator. The guys who did the actual move were amazing! They were patient, flexible, and very understanding about the level of chaos that existed in my home. They came prepared for contingencies I hadn't anticipated and added a stop at a new storage unit at the last minute with only a minimal additional fee. By the time we finished the move, I was sorry to see them go! I have rarely been this happy with a service provider, much less a set of service providers coordinated through central agent (Wheaton). People have described Wheaton as relatively high-priced compared to other moving companies, but this was not my experience. I obtained quotes from another large, national moving firm for that came in at almost double what Wheaton charged me, and for fewer services. A friend of mine has a fairly difficult move planned in the near future, and he has already decided to use Wheaton based on what he saw of my experience with them. Wheaton provides friendly, extremely competent service at a very reasonable price.
Description of Work: Wheaton's contracted agents moved my belongings from my home in Plainfield, CT to my new home in Syracuse, NY. The move took four days, although they could have done it in three; Wheaton easily accommodated my need for slightly more time between their transfer of my belongings to NY and their actual delivery to my new home. I had around 10,000 lbs of belongings located in both my CT home and in a storage unit. Because of the circumstances surrounding my move, my belongings were mostly packed and ready to load, but they were scattered over the four stories of my home. The Wheaton movers were great about making sure that nothing that was supposed to come with me was left behind, and that nothing that was supposed to be left behind was accidentally packed. Wheaton only packed a few items for me, including a valuable, fragile lamp and a 30-inch x 46-inch, glass-framed painting. Both objects were carefully packed and arrived in perfect condition. The Wheaton guys also saved me a lot of time with their last-minute packing of several totes that were full of things but which had no lids. I didn't have to search for or buy new boxes because Wheaton's movers just sealed the totes with heavy-duty, plastic cling-wrap that held up as well (or better) than some of my cardboard boxes. Wheaton delivered my belongings to my new home in NY and to a storage unit on a schedule that met my needs.

The driver,, Norris was very professional, on time, and did an excellent job. When I had a problem with the packers,( from another company) Wheaton responded and straightened out the problem quickly.however they didn't get other packers which is what should have been done. Two of the local packers did a very poor job and the driver helped repack the boxes and oversaw the others. I have moved with Wheaton many times and certainly appreciate their response to customers and their professional employees. Having said that, beware of any mover who hires outside help!!! My printer was wrapped with one sheet of paper and placed in a large box along with the keyboard and flat screen monitor, neither of which had any protection around them. Wire hangers and other items were tossed in the same box. Needless to say my electronic equipment is damaged. Let's see how Wheaton responds when I notify them.
Description of Work: The contents of our home were packed up and moved from LA to FL. We had packed 104 boxes and they packed the rest. It was delivered to storage. They arranged for a separate company to come and crate a spinning wheel for safe shipment.

The thing we liked the best was that they packed the high risk things like the paintings and furniture. They wrapped it. We packed our small stuff. They moved everything and they were very efficient. They did what they said they would do, they were on time and really knew their stuff. They were very courteous and professional movers. At the loading end, they changed the date of pickup by a day the day before they were supposed to arrive, then called and changed the date back. The day of loading they were four hours late and left items behind and since they arrived so late there was nothing to do about it as I only had 1hour to arrive at the airport and catch a plane. Our goods were placed in storage for 2 weeks and when things arrived many items were damaged or broken. Working with the office to settle the claim was horrific and they denied payment on the items left behind even though it was the company's fault and we had purchased extra insurance. This was the worst moving experience we have ever had and we move every 3 to 5 years for my husband work.

Great. We will use them again when we move from the apartment to our house in a few months.
Description of Work: We made a move from San Diego to Las Vegas May 2, 2011. On April 30th they came and packed up all the items that we did not finish packing. May 1st, they loaded up the truck and they delivered our items on May 2nd. They where exceptional. Our driver was very polite. My husband tipped him 200.00 bucks, that how good they where. We will be moving one more time from the apartment to a house, so we will use them again. For the price it was good. Allied movers was more money.

The agent that provided us with a quote was Preferred movers of Nashville. The person they sent to provide an estimate to move, pack, store and then unload at the other end arrived as schedule. He went through each room, closet, drawer, and all the nooks and crannies so as to provide us with a good estimate. We needed to move 900 miles away, during the Christmas holiday and arrange for storage, as we had not purchased a new home at the time, and finally unload our belongings. The estimate was right on target. Wheaton provided the packers. The three gentlemen, were polite and quickly packed all our belongings. Taking care to examine each piece and noting any damage prior to packing. We also had a glass tabletop. They arranged for a person to come in to build a crate to protect the table top during the move. They left us a bed and linens so that we could spend the night as the actual move would not occur until the next day. The next day the movers came, again with enough man power to move us quickly. They were organized and completed the move, including a storage area as planned. On the other end, Wheaton used Bridges of Exeter NH to unload the truck. We called five days before we had to move and they were able to accommodate our move date. They too, brought the appropriate number of people to move our belongings up a flight of stairs to our new home. The day was cold. They were organized and had my husband, check off the list, as items were brought into the home. It also gave us a chance to tell them were to put each box making it easier for us to unpack. The move required that they move a piano up the stairs which they did with lots of moans and groans. Nothing was broken, the glass tabletop was intact and the piano was gently placed in its new place. The only problem we had was payments. We had failed to ask when payments were due and to whom we should pay. We eventually paid for the packing and the move out, after our goods had been loaded on the truck. We paid for the storage and the unloading, when our goods arrived at our doorstep and prior to the unload. The actual cost was less than the estimate as the weight and storage time was less than estimated.
Description of Work: We sought a mover to pack our belongings, move us 900 miles away, store our goods for an undetermined amount time and finally to move our belongings to a new place. We called three different places using Angies' list as a start. We received three quotes. Two of the agents used Wheaton's Crown moving and storage as the carrier. One did not. We chose Preferred Movers of Nashville as the agent using Wheaton as the carrier. The difference between the two quotes was Preferred agreed to store our belongings in the northeast where we planned to live vs the other quote that kept our belongings in the midwest. The quotes were similar.

The move went perfectly. Not a thing was broken or scratched; each box was labeled; they were there on each of 3 days (1 to pack; 1 to load; 1 to unload in Saint Paul) exactly on time; their estimates of the time each segment would take were dead on; the men were pleasant and professional on both ends; and put everything that they had taken apart to move back together again. They made a stressful process nearly stress-free. I HIGHLY recommend this firm.
Description of Work: Smoldt Moving packed and loaded our household goods and furniture in Des Moines and delivered them to Saint Paul. They packed dishes, lamps, and pictures and moved bedroom furniture, end and coffee tables and a piano. In addition, they moved furniture for us on both ends of the move.
