I received an estimate from Wheaton based only on my listing of items which concerned me somewhat since I had had an awful experience, not three months earlier with World Wide Van Lines (see report). But the day the truck arrived, I was pleasantly pleased with not only the man who drove the truck (Robin) but also his wife who helped with paperwork. Wheaton Van Lines is a national company. You call the local affiliate and make your arrangements with them, then a truck owned by Wheaton comes from where ever is closest to pick up and deliver. The truck arrived on time at 9:00am at the storage facility where my belongings were being kept. He and his wife immediately started doing paperwork, clearing space in the trailer, and loading small items. Every item got an inventory tag, which was marked on an ongoing sheet. It may have been 30 min. before a man from the local office arrived, but he worked so hard over the next hour it didn't matter that he was a bit late. Each and every item was handled with extreme care, wrapped in blankets and taped when necessary. All three of them were very cordial and professional at all times. The estimate was for $2,100, but after being weighed, I was wonderfully surprised to find that the actual weight came in below the estimate so that my cost was $1,994.56. The local office kept in touch with me on the location of the truck throughout the trip. My husband and I drove the trip also. The truck arrived on schedule to unload at our new home. Two workers arrived from the local office in FL to help the driver. They arrived in the same vehicle and within minutes of the truck.Again, all three of them were professional and courteous, handling my items with care. Anything that needed set up was done. I found that not one of my items had been damaged or was missing. I highly recommend this company for their professionalism and commitment to customer service.
Description of Work: Wheaton provided me with an estimate to move my belongings from a storage unit in Chambersburg, PA to our new home in Englewood, FL. Once accepted, the move was completed.

That was 2 months ago when we used Wheaton Van Lines Inc. They packed everything up and they stored it in Tampa for few months. While we were looking for a house here and then move it out then delivered it. They were probably below average whatever that is. We would not use them in the future. We had issues with, some missing stuffs, and some attitude. I think they had lost some of the missing stuffs.

Dear member, I am very sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience with Wheaton World Wide Moving. We certainly appreciate your feedback and also appreciate being made aware of some of the issues you experienced during your relocation. I took the opportunity to review these issues with Carol at Coast to Coast, our Wheaton agent in Tampa. She indicated that she had not been made aware of any missing items or any problems with our team's attitudes. We definitely want to learn more about these issues so we can try to locate your missing items and address any crew members if they delivered anything less than professional service and attitude. My name is David Allen and I am the director of the customer service department at Wheaton corporate headquarters. Please call me with additional information: 317.558.0263 - or e-mail me at david_allen@wvlcorp.com. I look forward to hearing from you and resolving any outstanding issues. Thank you again for making me aware of these matters and am again sorry for any problems.

They were hired by the company that my husband works for, so we didn't get to choose a mover. We paid a part of the total amount because we used their storage facility for 3 months while we were finishing building the house. The people who did the packing and unpacking I thought were pretty professional. My problem was that there were lots of stuff that would be damaged when we got it back, but nothing completely destroyed, except for things like shells that hang on the wall like pottery burnt shells and more than a few of those things that were annoying. The pricing seemed a little bit high for me.

I liked the estimate it was accurate. They sent us three staff members. One of them was a lady, and one was an older gentleman. My husband had to help move some heavy items. They were not good at angling the furniture. As far as moving the large items they were not that professional. There was a hidden cost about surcharges, and we needed to pay for the gas. It was not mentioned when I called for the estimate.

Dear member, thank you very much for your feedback! We especially value the constructive comments as it allows us the opportunity to look into each situation and determine the root cause of the problem. I'm sorry that the line item tariff charges were not properly explained to you at the time the estimate was presented to you. Our tariff does require us to charge for the fuel and insurance surcharges, which is what I believe you had referred to in your report. We are also sorry to hear that the labor supplied was apparently not the most effective. I am going to forward this information to our booking agency to review this matter further. Please feel free to contact me if you need any additional information. My name is David Allen and I am the director of the customer service department. I can be reached at 317.558.0263. I had heard very positive things about Wheaton Van Lines both from a quality and professionalism standpoint. In fact I had not heard a negative about Wheaton. Though I had moved several times in the past at my company's expense and their choice of moving companies I had no experience with Wheaton. My company never used Wheaton but based on the positive things I had heard from friends and acquaintences and the strong reviews I read in Angie's List I decided to call Wheaton for an estimate. I spoke with their representative and representatives of two other major movers. After evaluating all factors I contracted to use Wheaton for my move. Though the estimated weight vs the actual weight was off, it was comparatively off less than the stimated weights of the other two companies. As a result of the additional weight the estimate of $5200 actually ended up being $5800 which I felt was reasonable and based on the professionalism, timeliness, and couteousness of Jim and Larry. I had no complaints. All of the furniture arrived on time and Jim and Larry had to move some furniture left in the house prior to our move into the basement and out of the way for us. They moved us in as carefully as they moved us out and only one piece was damaged when accidentally dropped (easily repairable). I really cannot say enough about Wheaton Van Lines and especially Jim and Larry. They have that "old fashioned" midwestern work ethic. I highly recommend them. .
Description of Work: Wheaton Van Lines picked up our household items in Arizona and delivered them to Bloomfield Hills. In addition to physically moving us they had items crated and also provided us used boxes at no charge for us to use packing our shipment. The Wheaton representative came to the house in Arizona and estimated the weight of the shipment to be 7500 pounds and estimated the cost to ship would be around $5200. They picked up the items at our Arizona home and also from our storage unit so they had to make two different stops. Two movers, Jim and Larry, handled the move from start to finish. The pick up was scheduled for Tuesday morning. In order to stay on schedule Jim called on a Monday to see if he could pick up the storage unit later that day (Monday) to help stay on schedule. We agreed. They picked up the storage unit late on Monday and on Tuesday loaded and packed the truck. I have moved for business purposes several times with several different companies so I was familiar with the various packing abilities and work ethic of movers. I would judge Jim to be the most competent and careful packer of any of the movers I had used previously. He was very careful the way he carefully wrapped our furniture items, especially the antique items. Jim had prior knowledge and experience moving antique furntiure and was fully aware of the proper way to protect and move those type of items.

I can hardly believe how wonderful my experience with Wheaton Van Lines was. I was directed to them through Priority Moving (San Diego), who has merged with them. I moved from San Diego to the Philadelphia area. They came and gave an estimate, which included a "not to exceed" price. When my items were weighed, the estimate was WAY under what it could have been, but they stuck to their price quoted. Ed came to move me, along with a partner. He was so professional. The entire time I was being contacted by his company to make sure everything was going smoothly. I cannot recommend this company highly enough. It was the lowest price I found, and the best service.

To begin with, the surveyor responsible for evaluating our move from Indiana to Missouri was quite inflexible about scheduling a visit to make this assessment, saying that he would be in our area (one hour's drive away) several weeks later than we needed him. When he did come, he was not able to answer some of my questions. The discussion was civil and very rational, so I was amazed when he told me that he didn't think we could do business together. My questions arose from two sources: a problematic move eight years ago (which opened my eyes about what questions to ask this time around!), and one negative review on Angie's list. The questions I asked were as follows: 1. Who will actually pack and move our belongings? Are these your employees, or are they hired from an agency? I mentioned that, in our previous move, we witnessed carelessness on the part of those workers, and saw items broken due to this. The surveyor replied that, yes, they go through agencies that screen temporary workers, but that the driver is their employee. 2. I referred to notes I'd made from the feedback on Angie's list from one consumer who had listed a variety of problems, trying to understand how the company handles issues such as missing or damaged items, possible delayed delivery, and additional charges beyond their initial assessment. The surveyor told me that he is just a salesman and could not answer any of these questions. He also informed me that other companies I might interview would give the same answer. 3. I mentioned that the driver of our previous move had dismissed one worker for poor performance, and asked if their driver would do the same. He seemed angry at this question, said he could not give that assurance, and it was at this point that he declared that he didn't want to work with us. I was really flabbergasted that someone representing a company so highly rated would refuse to follow through with evaluating our move, especially when I had simply asked questions he was not able to answer. There was no animosity in my questions, I just wanted to anticipate possible problems and to do what I could to avoid them.

Upon further analysis, Wheaton discovered the following: The Angie’s List member contacted Crown/Wheaton approximately one month ago to schedule an in-home estimate. The agreed upon date was set for Thurs., March 29 at 11:30am. One day prior, the member contacted the salesperson to cancel the appointment. On April 2, the member re-initiated contact with Crown/Wheaton and requested an appointment during the April 12-14 time frame. The salesperson was not scheduled to be in Bloomington until the week of April 23 and the member informed she could not wait that long. On April 19, the member contacted Crown/Wheaton again to request an estimate for the week of April 23. An in-home survey was scheduled for Mon., April 23 at 11:00am. Shortly after arriving, the salesperson fielded a series of questions from the member and determined that neither he nor our company would be able to meet all of the members’ expectations. The salesperson recommended ending the meeting and did not conduct the in-home assessment. The salesperson did not want to jeopardize the quality of service Crown/Wheaton provides after it was determined the member expectations were not aligned with the services our company could provide. On behalf of Wheaton, I apologize for the inconvenience. I welcome further conversation with the member regarding why all of the expectations could not be met. My name is David Allen and I am the director of customer service. You can reach me at 317.558.0263. Thank you!

The agent was absolutely on time for the estimate visit, was professional and helpful, and provided followup service. We have used Wheaton in the past. This was a tough choice, but we picked another company. Deciding factor was the ability to actually watch the truck weighing on both ends of the move. I would recommend this company.

They said they subcontract out their long distance moving to local movers. I prefer to work with only one company.

Response from Wheaton World Wide Moving
Dear member, thank you very much for considering our services and I am sorry if there was any confusion as to how we conduct our business or regarding the business relationships we hold with our network of agents. I'd like to take this opportunity to further explain how we, and most interstate carriers, do business. Wheaton World Wide Moving has agency agreements with approximately 370 agents nationwide. These agents must go through a certification and qualification process to represent the Wheaton brand and we take great pride in our agency network. These agents are individually owned and operated and do perform their own local moves outside of our authority. However, any interstate move is done under the Wheaton interstate authority and the involved parties must abide by not only the federal regulations set forth by the Department of Transportation, but also by the strict policies and procedures we hold ourselves to here at Wheaton. I would like to possibly answer any other questions you may have about the benefits of our operational business model. Thank you again for providing us with feedback as to why you chose to not utilize our services. My name is David Allen and I am the director of the customer service department. If you would like, please contact me at your earliest convenience at 317.558.0263. Thank you!

Every part of the experience went very well. We got several estimates and even considered doing the move ourselves. The price Wheaton charged for the the move was very affordable and cost less than it would have cost us to do the move on our own. Bernardo Moving explained the process very clearly; the estimation was right on; the scheduling of the truck fit our needs well; the packers and the driver were very friendly and careful; the driver was super polite and conscientious and called us to give us updates; no items were damaged or broken. There were no delays, no unexpected costs and no surprises. Moving can be a stressful time, and this excellent move with Wheaton reduced stress significantly. Thank you.
Description of Work: We contracted with Wheaton to help a family member moving from San Diego, California to Idaho. Wheaton's agent, Bernardo Moving in San Diego, did the estimate and made the arrangements for a Wheaton truck/driver to move the household items to Idaho.

Please NEVER use Wheaton Van Lines and be very careful not to use an agent or any affiliate that (works) with them. The agent that came to my home that gave me a business card that had Q & S Storage and Movers along with a large bi-folder with Wheaton Van Lines on the front and all the moving do's and don't's inside. He introduced himself as a sales person for Wheaton. His Wheaton/Q&S Storage business card had Memphis, TN on it. The 800 numbers were out of Indianapolis. Now for my nightmare that I really wish would have only been a dream. I am very ill with several problems. I have been through tumors removed, severe pain 24/7, fibromyoma, etc, but for the purpose of this review, my lupus plays a major role. (Lupus attacks your auto-immune system and your organs.) I explained to the agent that we had to be very careful with germs and cleanliness; he assured me that all of my furniture would be shrink wrapped, especially my bed, mattresses, and everything would be put in NEW BOXES. He lied. I have pictures for proof. All of my mattresses were put into used boxes! Ugh! Imagine body hair, dead skin, bed bugs, mites, and anything else that lives in mattresses sharing the same box with your mattress (which I steam clean twice a week). When I realized that these were all in used boxes, I called Jack (the agent) and he told me he wasn't bringing out new boxes. He said he had no proof, but my word, that the boxes were used. At that point, I believe I turned very red and I told him to hold on, please. I took the phone to the Wheaton truck drive. He confirmed that all of the boxes were definitely used and he was also told that no new ones would be brought out. When I contacted Wheaton at the time of the delivery, I was told, too bad, they would not cover the cost of buying new mattresses. Even when I explained to the manager at the corporate office that I could end up hospitalized by their mistake. Next, while loading (which took 12.5 hours), the driver realized that he would not have enough room on his truck for everything in my household. He called the agent and was told a truck would be sent out, as soon as possible. Two hours later, a dirty (and I mean, trash on the floor) truck was sent out. The driver of the Wheaton truck made them take the truck back to the warehouse to clean or send a clean one out. Four and a half hours later, the (overload) as they call it was literally being thrown on a truck. That overload, which I was never warned would happen, is still in Indianapolis, at the corporate warehouse where it's being stored. My delivery date was guaranteed April 2-4 at the latest. I only have half of my things as of right now. Then at the new house, we all, including the men who were loading, noticed that most of the boxes did not have any sort of label corresponding with the room they were to supposed be in. Most of the boxes did not tell you what was inside, so my husband and I are still moving boxes into different rooms. I have crushed boxes, broken items, and an antique piece that was not blanketed, but banded. I was told by the driver that the packers at the other house were caught packing items in boxes and then writing on the box that I had packed the boxes, instead of the packers doing it themselves (company packed, as opposed to packed by owner). All in all, this was the worst move we have ever experienced and with my husband's job, we have moved several times. I could tell you more problems, but I think you get the drift. Lastly, all the bed frames and antique furniture with mirrors were supposed to be together at our new room. Surprise, surprise, they still haven't been put together. Do yourself a huge favor and stay away from Wheaton Van Lines. Even though this is a company move, it will be a cold day (you know where) before this move is paid for. I just received a letter yesterday that told us we had to keep every box and mattresses until they decide if they will send an agent out to cover any claims. Please bear in mind that I was told on the phone on 4/4/12 by Karen (a manager) that they had decided not to cover any claims on the bed and then she had the nerve to demand for my medical records. (Please remember the HIPA law.) I was also told if I went out and replaced our beds, it would be at our own cost. I am ill. What do they expect me to sleep on? The floor? An air mattress? For months, while they investigate? Needless to say, we bought the new beds out of our own pockets and I'm sure that everything else will be replaced, repaired, or plain fixed, out of our own pockets and not Wheaton's pocket. Moving is hard enough. Please do not make it harder on yourself by using WHEATON.
Description of Work: My husband got a new job and his company was paying for the move. They were supposed to move us from Tennessee to up north.

Of the 5 moving companies suggested, one had an F rating, 2 of the others seemed to do local deliveries only. so I choose Wheaton, as they seemed to have glowing reviews. I am needing to move from Alaska to Colorado. I called the Wheaton listed and the person who answered after WAY TOO MANY rings informed me that they were an agent of Wheaton. She referred me to another agent in Anchorage, the Denali Group, and supplied me with their phone # and the names of 2 people to speak with, one of whom was said to be the GM. This number was not a working number. So I Googled the Denali Group, got a web page with a phone number which I called. The person that answered was actually in Seattle. He was EXTREMELY helpful, and ended up taking my information, telling me he would email me a quote within the day, WHICH HE DID!!! and have someone from the Anchorage branch call me that afternoon. Like I said, I received the quote in a very timely manner. That's where it ends. I've never heard another peep. 3/31/12 This update is due to the prompt attention of the above matter by Brian Crockett, GM of the Denali Group in Seattle. Although I have still not used this service, I chose to remove the negatives in the grading as he did call me and offer to be my 'main point of contact' for future dealings with this company. I look forward to using this service, with his assistance, and will update my review again if and when that occurs. 6/15/12 My car arrived mid May, that went very well. My Household goods arrived in CO a few weeks later, I have yet to have them delivered. Overall (other than the initial mis-contact) I have been totally satisfied with the experience and highly impressed with the treatment I have received by Mr. Crockett and his staff.
Description of Work: Moving from Homer, AK to Colorado. Both Household goods and a vehicle, which were to ship separately. My car was in Anchorage, AK being repaired before shipping. Denali went 'above and beyond' my expectations by picking the car up at the Lexus dealership for me, saving me a lot of time and money. Otherwise I would have had to drive or fly`Homer is 275 miles south of Anchorage` up and back simply to drive the car a few miles to the Port. I was given a time frame, updated regularly, and when the transport got to Colorado I was given the flexibility to choose the drop off location that would be convenient to me. The transport driver called, gave me a time, and was there exactly when he said he would be. I was extremely pleased. My household goods are still in the movers' storage as I have not yet found a permanent place to have them delivered.
