Estimator, liaison person was a delight. Driver was a nightmare with inappropriate flirting, refusing to provide services I paid (full unpack)  causing me to have to repeatedly call the main office, and resorting to bullying behavior, as well as treating me in a sexist, "little woman" way. They did refund some money but I would have preferred the service  I paid for. I would use them again, but make sure I didn't get the same driver.  I think he was retiring which is good for this company.

Crew worked diligently, everything arrive in reasonably good shape.  Good communication. A few scratches, but could have been previous move.  Moved my studio piano.  My only problem was I thought they underestimated the weight quite a bit, so cost higher than I expected.

We moved from Artesia, NM to Medford, OR.  At one point, one of the boxes was found not to be checked as received, but movers did not leave this problem hanging.  Instead, they searched until the box was found.  I would use this company again.

The move started well. Brian was very good at coordinating and responding to our questions. The packers appeared to be efficient. The guys who loaded the truck were excellent, they were very careful of our belongings and of the house. Everything went downhill when our belongings were unloaded at our new home. The person in charge had injured his knee so was unable to help or oversee the unloading properly. His help was one quite elderly man and a middle aged one. They obviously had no training. In the beginning, they brought boxes in and put them where we requested. In bringing them in,they knocked blinds off the window and ran into walls ,etc. It was taking too long to unload, they had another job to get to so they started putting boxes in our storage room. I requested they put light boxes on top. My husband and I are in our sixties and in poor health and are unable to lift heavy objects. They piled things to the ceiling with no regard to how heavy the boxes were. Several belongings were damaged,a table leg was broken off,a lamp was broken and we've been unable to find some things. Overall,it went well on the loading end and was a nightmare on the unloading end. We've used several moving companies in the past and on the unloading end it was by far the worst. We would not use this company again.

STAY AWAY! They ruined approximately $50,000 worth of items and although we purchased FULL REPLACEMENT VALUE INSURANCE, with $0 deductible, it took them over three months to send me a letter declining ANY responsibility. Below is the letter I wrote to the claims adjuster (edited for size), Laura Pritchard when I submitted our claim, followed by her response to me today:

September 29, 2013
Dear Laura,
Our move was scheduled for 8/23/2013, with an AGREED arrival
date of 8/26/2013 or 8/27/2013.
On 8/22/2013, while the packers were on the job, the driver
called my husband and asked if his team could arrive a day early, to begin loading.  My husband answered by saying the packers
were there, but they could load what they could.

The load team arrived later that day on 08/22/2013 and
looked around.  After a few hours of
waiting for I?m not sure what, they decided to begin loading some things,
including our 2011 Sundance Spa.  This had never been moved since it originally was delivered and was in perfect/like
new condition and still under full warranty. The load team had the packing crew
actually move the spa to the curb from the backyard.  It was not padded, shrink wrapped or given
any protection while it was being loaded or after it was on the truck. It?s no
surprise, the cabinet was damaged.
From there, they began loading more items.  Our house was not protected other than the
use of a small, red runner, partially covering our wood floor.  Stair rails,  door ways, walls, carpets (stairs, in
particular) were not protected with anything.
Around 4-5pm , they called it a day and said they would be
back early the next morning.
Arriving on time the next morning, it was raining.  Again, my floors were not protected.  Our carpeting was very wet and became quite dirty from the constant traffic up and down the stairs.  I was forced to pay extra for a carpet cleaning
that I already scheduled due to additional areas needing cleaning. That totaled $595.00; it was originally
$400.00
As you are aware from a previous claim, a ceiling fan was
broken during the 8/23 move day, as well. I expect from your email, that
incident will be remedied shortly.

Late in the day, it became apparent that they were running
short on space.  A call for another truck
was made and around 7pm, another crew arrived to load the remaining items.
Unfortunately, we were scheduled to leave our home that night, in order to take
our son to college on our way to Fort Myers.
Because the job wasn?t finished until very late that night, we were
forced to stay in Cary and make other arrangements for our son.

On 8/27, as scheduled, the driver of the first truck arrived
at our home in Fort Myers.  Again, the
house was not protected, other than the red runner.  Part of the threshold of the doorway was
chipped as a result.

During the unloading process, we were never given an
inventory sheet to check off the items as they were brought inside (we didn?t
even know this was routine until the second truck arrived, three weeks later).
We had no idea what, if anything was missing, especially since there was more
than one truck.  After all was unloaded
into the house, we were asked to sign the inventory sheet.  The sheets were barely legible and were
several pages long. I?m not sure how we were supposed sign off on anything.

As of this point, we still had no idea when the 2nd
truck would leave IL, much less arrive in FL.

During this time, we could not completely set up a single
room in our home.  There were parts of
every room missing and we were hoping they were on the 2nd truck;
but we had no idea. This made it very difficult to obtain any type of normalcy.

For example, my daughter?s bed was in FL, but her bedding
was somewhere else.  Her desk was here,
but the top of her desk, with mirror was not. Our sofa had only two of four
feet attached and needed to remain on cardboard, so as not to damage the
material. I was forced to replace the feet. Power cords were missing for
various items and could not be used. Most of our bedroom furniture was elsewhere,
so we were living out of suitcases.  Part
our of elliptical machine was here, but most of it was not. No vacuum, not even
a broom.  No outdoor furniture of any kind.

Where were our belongings?
We had no idea.  We were told they
were in storage, awaiting a driver to bring them down to FL.  No one at Wheaton or Van Sydow knew when that
would be, however.  Were items protected
from the elements? Was it climate controlled?
We later found out the answer was ?No? on both counts.

Finally, on 9/13/2013, three long weeks after we left IL,
the driver, Paul, arrived with the remaining items and a two-man crew.  They were polite, professional and took the
extra time to tape cardboard to the floor, walls, and doorways; even placed a
bumper at the threshold of the front door, all without my asking.  He also explained how they would be calling
off tag numbers, so I could check items off of the inventory sheets. Obviously,
this was new to me, since this wasn?t done with the first shipment.  It was then that he explained the notations
on the inventory sheets and any remarks, when they were legible. Many, I still
cannot figure out.

Paul also expressed to me his dissatisfaction with the level of service we
received, including the condition of our items that were held at the storage
facility and encouraged me to call customer service. He took a few pictures of
how our items were being handled.  On the
day he arrived, much of our stuff was just sitting out in the sun, uncovered,
including my husband?s MAC.  It wasn?t
boxed or wrapped; just sitting in the extreme heat (the few days when the temps
spiked in Chicago).

He even called customer service on my behalf while at my
home in Ft. Myers.

Paul made notes on items that were damaged, not knowing the
condition prior picking them up.  I do
not have copies of those notes.

Many things didn?t have tags, as Paul noted, or were tagged
incorrectly on the inventory sheets.

I have since gone through the first set of sheets and tried
to make sense of some of the notes.
There are things that are marked ?SO?, ?M? or ?W? that are in goodE
condition, even after arrival.  For
example, there are 8 bar stools (item 157-164) that are noted the same EXACT
way:

?SC 6 5 10 12 SO W?

With the exception of the broken back on the one stool (on
my claim sheet) there isn?t anything wrong with the stools.  The upholstery is perfect?certainly not
?soiled? or ?badly worn? as indicated. And how could all 8 be in the EXACT same
condition???

Item 311 is a King Mattress.
Notes:  ?SO? Soiled?  I invite someone to inspect my brand new
mattress that has always had a cover in place, as well as my bar stools. So,
why the remarks?

This calls into question several other line items with
remarks similar to those.  Our spa, for
instance, was less than two years old and didn?t have a scratch on it.  It has been noted as ?marred, contents
unknown.?  That?s absurd.  It had never been moved and is still under
full warranty.  Perhaps t

Paragon Moving (MN) packers arrived 2 days ahead of time to get the boxes ready. Tommy and his team helped tirelessly to pack and prepare for moving day. On the big day, the loaders worked with John (Bekins/Wheaton Van Lines) to load the truck. We were 1 of three families packed on the truck.
John (Wheaton/Bekins) kept in contact with me throughout the move. He was professional and patient with the helper crews. He took pride in his work and kept all of our boxes safe.
Bekins Relocation unloaded John's truck at our new location in Watkinsville, GA. The team was polite and hard-working until the end. Everything, including the piano, arrived safely.
Our family has moved 4 times in the last decade. This was the best, most stress-free move we've ever had. I credit Bekins/Wheaton and Paragon Moving for the success.

Many items were damaged or destroyed - some are not replaceable or were custom built furniture items, or things with sentimental value.  We had decorative egg shells packaged with metal objects (literally wrapped up in the same packing paper) - the egg shells were obliterated.  Handwriting on bill of lading was difficult to make out; as we have started claims process we are discovering that they wrote that items were damaged when they had not been.  In my book, that makes them a bunch of liars trying to make sure they won't be blamed for the damage they will do by their utter carelessness.  The crew had lunch by the truck and left chicken bones on the curb; also apparently they are as careful with their bathroom habits as they are with your possessions as they managed to urinate down the side of the toilet and on the floor.  They ignored instructions I provided regarding how to disassemble furniture, which resulted in damage to a couple of items.  They attempted to move our washer without putting in the shipping bolts and seemed upset that I made them wait until I could put them in myself since they outright refused to do it (they said their company says they aren't supposed to).  They tried to move a very valuable teak table that I inherited from my grandparents without taking apart the pieces and even after I cautioned them about it, they did not package the pieces in a way that prevented rubbing of the top surface of the table.  Frankly, I could go on and on - there is a long list of items they damaged because they refused to listen to my instructions and apparently they don't have any idea what they are doing...or they just don't care to do an acceptable job because they just write down that everything is damaged beforehand.
Regarding delivery, we were supposed to get two days notice before they showed up.  It was getting late into the window of possible delivery times (they give you a range of delivery dates when they take your stuff) so WE called and found out our stuff would arrive the next day.  I wondered if we hadn't taken the initiative to call them whether anyone was going to see if we would be home or if they were just going to show up unannounced??  When unloading, there were several items that started coming into our house that were not ours and I had to tell them to put them back on the truck - I have yet to discover if we are missing anything that didn't come off the truck that was supposed to, but it is clear that their ability to make sure all your possessions stay together is utterly lacking.  They don't go through any of the paperwork when they deliver so you have to somehow do your best to account for all of your possessions.  If, however, you try to pause and look around and account for your stuff or examine any possible damage you see, they will get snappy at you and just start putting stuff wherever they see fit (rather than into the rooms you direct/prefer) because they don't want to wait for anything.  They piled boxes into one room so that we couldn't even get into the room - and our dogs were in crates in that room so it became an emergency for us to shuffle all of those things around so we could let our dogs out.
We didn't get to choose this company as it was assigned by the employer, but I would strongly urge anyone to use a different company for their move.  We have also now been waiting for two months now for the claims process.  I'm sure it is complicated because this company was subcontracted by the employer's contracted mover, but someone is dropping the ball with follow up and ultimately this is the company responsible for all the damage to our stuff and the lies on the shipping paperwork.
Response from Wheaton World Wide Moving

The company knew I was moving valuable antiques. I paid for packing, boxing and moving art, antiques and a new mattress and box spring. I packed approximately 150 boxes myself. The moving company sent a mover reputed to be one of their best who was not yet even authorized to handle long distance moves. At the departure point the two assistant movers were completely unprofessional. One used my bathroom and left an absolute mess in the toilet and surrounding area after he disappeared for approximately 30 minutes. I paid for my 4 month old mattress and box spring to be boxed and shipped flat. I was horrified to see the mattress suspended in a dangling fashion by a belt attached to the top of the moving truck. I immediately telephoned  the local agent representing Wheaton Van Lines in San Diego CA and my request for proper handling of the mattress was ignored. The company sent too small a truck for my possessions. Antique furnishings were shoved against metal. The total damage was in excess of $10000. I believed the additional insurance I purchased for $500 for full replacement cost coverage would provide peace of mind and protection. I am still in the process of hiring an attorney to obtain the actual replacement cost of the damaged furniture. This mover states its only responsibility is to repair the item. An antique table with no observable damage at the departure point suffered 1/8 inch by 6 inch by two inch gashes into the wood of the table in multiple places. When I contacted the Wheaton Claims Department I told them I had not had an opportunity to examine many of the items and needed to know if I could add to the Claim if I filed it when they requested it. I was assured by someone named "Trina" that I could add to the claim. When I did so the company denied responsibility. Wheaton Van Lines used false and misleading representations to obtain my business. They purported to offer insurance without notifying me that the insurance would be processed and adjusted by some employee of Wheaton Van Lines. I obtained estimates from 4 other national companies prior to utilizing Wheaton. They were not the cheapest company and I selected them based on their false and misleading representations. I can never replace the items destroyed by Wheaton Van Lines. I hope this review can protect someone else from the misery of a move like my recent one. I thought I was an educated consumer and using due diligence. My possessions would have been more carefully packed and moved by a few college students than this disgrace of a company.

Very reasonable pricing for the move from Sacramento to Austin.  Received discounted storage for the transition because I was paying for it out of my own pocket.  The pickup in Sacramento went well.  They only sent 2 guys for the delivery which prolonged the unload.  Overall,  it was a good experience.

We were treated like family and so was all our stuff!  It was the least stressful move I've made, and I've moved 3 times in the past 3 years!  Excellent customer service.  We had absolutely no issues!

The day of packing was very stressful for me and again I felt stressed out but the people who were packing kept me informed and was very empathetic to my concerns. The day the moving van was loaded, the drivers came to our house and spoke with us explaining how our home would be shuttled to an area of safe loading. They were very professional and again empathetic to our worries and concerns.

I want to say that Wheaton has an excellent/informative website and the guesstimate I did was so very close to the final amt.. The estimator who came was very polite and thorough and explained many things I hadn't thought of, provided me with contact info so I could follow up AND an impressive folder with detailed information about every step of the process....including any problem resolution. At my request he estimated what moving materials (boxes, etc.) that I would need and had them delivered...a huge convenience esp. if you don't have the time or strength to go run around and get them yourself!!  And though it was a bit more $, it was worth it as they buy back what is not needed...but I used everything he suggested, down to the last scrap of paper. That is a good estimator!
Both the NYC and FL crews were excellent, very pleasant, hard working, organized and wasted no time getting things done. Made sure I had all my copies of the paperwork and had phone nombers, etc. to track my items or ask any questions. When my items arrived  in FL (time frame just as they predicted) they called the day before to let me know delivery time. Upon arrival they made sure I had a check off list to tick off items and they called them off as they came in to match both their and my list. I really appreciated the system Wheaton has in place as it took a lot of pressure off me. Before they left they asked more than once if there was anything they could do and quite willingly did what I needed (setting up heavy bulky shelves iin the armoire, and unasked rescrewed the knobs on my hutch).
To put it politely, moving is a real challenge and in the last few years there have been more and more horror stories in the media about people getting ripped off...it was so nice to have this continual level of professionalism (not just at the beginning when they want your business) but throughout the move.
If you need to move, Wheaton is the way to go. Thank you Angies List (I'm a new member) for pointing the way!

Outstanding service by Wheaton and its subsidiary Bell Moving & Storage from start to finish. Most professional moving company I have ever moved with. I would highly recommend this company.

They were excellent. They overestimated the billing price and adjusted it after weighing the truck.

This was the 9th move in our adult life, all but 2 were long distances and many also involved interim storage.  So moving long distances and going into storage for a time is routine for us, with corporate transfers.  We got 3 moving bids.  We had narrowed it to two movers, one of which was Wheaton.  We read all the reviews, both pertaining to the sending end (Castroville, Ca) Wheaton Van Lines and the receiving end(Austin, Texas) end for Wheaton Moving and Van Lines.
I liked the other company but the salesman Wheaton sent out to the house sold my husband on Wheaton.  He promised our antiques and wood and upholstered furniture would all be wrapped and the high end Wesley Alllen bed-frames for both beds  would also be wrapped in plastic.  Before I left they were packing up the last bed-frame and "wrapping" it in plastic.  I pleaded with them to tape all the hardware and small bed-frame pieces to the headboard, so they wouldn't get lost.
When our load arrived after one month in storage, not one thing was covered.  They lay custom powdered coated iron bed-frames on exposed aggregate driveway with nothing underneath, so the finish was badly scratched  down to bare metal.  Not one piece which went on the truck "covered" was covered coming off the truck. They lost four of the leg supports and all of the hardware for our king-size bed.  Since it was a 15 year old bed, I had to come up with creative solutions of how to restore our once functional, pristine-condition bed.  We slept on our mattress on the floor for over 6 weeks.  Wheaton claims department did nothing to help us out, and suggested we buy a $40 Hollywood bed-frame which would not attach to our head and foot-board.  They were rude and accusatory, my husband submitted one claim and left off a few things which had been   broken.  They wouldn't accept a separate claim, they said that was their policy, only one claim.  Since the load crossed state lines, I don't think this is legal, but I need to further research this.
We had a set of 6 French oak antique chairs in perfect condition (I had even moved the rush seats myself to ensure they made it).  One chair looked as though it had been smashed to pieces in  bar-room scene from an old Western.  An antique cabinet,  was badly gouged, our oak parquet coffee table looked as if a  two year old carved into it with a pen knife in multiple places.  Newly upholstered chairs, which left our house covered with soft cloth covers came off the truck bare and had dark grease marks across the arms and the protective arm-shields were removed on one of them, so the damage couldn't be hidden.
When they unloaded the truck to our house I asked that they cover the entry to each carpeted room, most of the house is tile.  They covered the tile but not the carpets, even though I made this request several times.  I had brand-new carpeting and now it   needs cleaning.
Oh, I forgot to mention that when they arrived to unload, it was a very hot day and within the first 15 minutes one of the guys quit!
We purchased insurance but it had a deductible, and the amount Wheaton paid out less the deductible does not begin to cover the actual repair or damage costs which they caused.  They also would only allow one claim form for damages and they expect you to know how much refinishing will cost before you submit a claim, I think most people have no idea of refinishing costs in a new area.  So in short, learn from our mistakes, it will be several months and a lot of money to undo the damage this company did to our household.
They did send out several local people to survey the damage, they all commented on how bad the damage was.  However  Wheaton's national claims department was not at all sympathetic, in fact their claims people should not be in any kind of customer service position, because they are totally clueless.

"Dear Member, I am very sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience with our company. We certainly appreciate your feedback, and also appreciate being made aware of some of the issues you experienced during your relocation. Allow me to assure you that the incidents you have described are isolated ones and not in keeping with the usual quality standards upheld by Wheaton Van Lines. The appropriate parties have been made aware of your concerns and will take the necessary measures to avoid recurrences. I am also disappointed to hear you incurred any damages during your move. I understand there was some confusion over our claims process and the requirement for one claim submission. In fact we did make an exception to our one claim policy. We received an email on July 1st stating that you were requesting to rescind the claim as it was not understood that you could only file one claim. We allowed this and received a subsequent email on July 17th stating you had completed the final claim form and had examined all boxes personally. Our claims department came to an agreed settlement on August 16th, which was signed by your husband in acceptance of our offer for settlement. I would hope this would have been to your satisfaction. If you would like to discuss this further or in more detail, my name is Tabitha Lowery, Senior Move Manager at Wheaton Van Lines. Please call me to discuss these issues or provide me with additional information at 317.558.0279 or e-mail me at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you and resolving any outstanding issues."
