They did a little miscalculation on some of the ordering of the material which caused a little delay but other than that they did a fine job.
Description of Work: I used the services Tish Flooring. They did put a plank flooring for me.
one to make the room usable and safe, even though the floor didn't heat. Tish had stopped working on it. The room was a mess, the toilet in the bathtub, the counter unusable, the floor incomplete. I hired an attorney. There was a meeting in which it was clarified that these error's were Tish's responsibility. I hope to get the electrician's fee, the cost of making it usable back and attorney fees back. My attorney has advised I not sign another contract like this without review by a lawyer. Tish violated their own contract by having me hire the electrician, and by charging me for the final payment when they started the job instead of when it was satisfactorily completed per their contract. The contract frees them from repairing damages caused during their installation and from cleaning up. Had they known what they were doing, this whole thing would not have happened.
Description of Work: I hired Tish to install a heated tile bathroom floor. They did not know how to sell, install, troubleshoot this floor. They violated terms in their own contract. The kit ordered was too big and was cut in violation of installation instructions. I was told that I had to hire an electrician to install the thermostat. I did this. When it didn't work, I refused to pay for his troubleshooting. There was an impasse. I hired someone who was able to check both the thermostat and the integrity of the wiring in the floor. The circuit was not closed This was a fire hazard. It was too late to repair this as the floor was almost done. The installer hadn't checked the installation with the Loud Mouth device in the kit. The directions for this were in the owner's manual. The exposed wire was a fire hazard. I hired some-

As we have done consistently since 1992, we stand behind our work. If we are at fault, we fix it or offer a remedy, without fail. Faulty installations are very rare, but in this case we did make an error. We acknowledged that the material was installed improperly. We apologized and offered to either replace the entire project or issue a refund/credit for the full amount of the purchase. The member has not responded to these offers. It is unfortunate for us that this member feels we deserve a poor grade. We sincerely hope that she will contact us directly and allow us to fulfill our obligation to her. Thank you.

I contacted Tish Flooring off of Angies List around December of 2013. The Salesman was originally responsive and came out to do an estimate. There were some unfortunate circumstances and the estimate was lost, so they said they'd come back. However they failed to show up to the appointment. Later I contacted the company through Angies list to give them a second chance. I was put in touch with a second salesman. I met with them and they brought no product with them. We had a few communications via email, but they were atleast a week apart most times. I last heard from them about a month ago, with no resolution. I have since bought flooring from another company. Also the sales people aren't very helpful in picking out products to suit the needs of the household. Update 4/16/2015 The sales rep did not have any samples with her, I asked that it be priced after I went online to the website and looked at the sales. I was never guided to know if it was appropriate for my home (dogs, cats and high traffic). She welcomed me to come to the store to view the samples, because she assumed I had picked out things with the first sales rep. Which I had - however I wasn't sure of what they were. The last email I received stated "I?ll look for something similar that is within your budget amount and we can go from there. Let me know if you have any additional questions." I never heard back.

We are disappointed and confused by this review. Disappointed because our Estimators/Project Managers go to great lengths to insure that prospective customers are provided top-notch service and consultation at the time of estimate and throughout the process of sharing information and options. And we are confused because the member's Estimate File clearly indicates that numerous samples were shown and three different products were priced to her via email at her request at different times. Our Project Managers' vehicles are filled with dozens of carpet, hardwood, laminate, and tile styles for every appointment; we would have been more than happy to show more products and discuss more options - and we would still be happy to do so! In any case, we offer our very best regards and the best of luck with her flooring company of choice. If, due to some unexpected turn of events, the member still needs the services of a professional flooring company, we would be honored to have another opportunity to be of assistance. At any time the member may contact our Client Care Manager, Katie Hughes, directly at 317-879-TISH (8474) extension 37 or katie@tishflooring.com. Katie will personally manage the process and insure that she is given every applicable discount and service courtesy that is extended to each Angie's List member. Thank you.

It went well. The crew arrived on time, and I left for work. They called when they were done - took them between 3-4 hours, and it looked great. I was impressed with the responsiveness, friendliness and helpfulness of each person I spoke to on the phone - seems to be a very professional company. The *only* reason I gave them a 'B' for professionalism is because they need to upgrade their system for accepting credit card payments. I would recommend paying by check until they do so.
Description of Work: Installed new vinyl flooring in kitchen, half bath and entryway.
We needed to refresh the carpeting in our house. We were referred to Tish by our realtor. After checking them in Angie?s List we contacted them and arranged for an estimate. The salesman came to our house and brought samples. We were able to narrow down our choices but did not select anything at that time. Jack measured all the rooms and gave us a ballpark estimate to be finalized when we made our final selections. A week or so later we made an appointment and went to their storefront to make final selections. The process was easy we made our carpet and tile selections and signed two purchase agreements one for the tile job and another for the carpet job. We also paid a 50% deposit on each with the balance due upon completion of the each installation job. We scheduled the tile job just before Thanksgiving and told them we would schedule the carpet job afterwards. The tile demolition was a bit of an ordeal. The installers tore out the old floor and installed a new underlayment and the new tile. What was supposed to be a 3-day job turned out to be a 5-day job. The work was well done however, the installers were not very careful about cleaning up. They dripped toilet water and tracked dirt all over our carpets during the process and slightly scratched our newly refinished tub in the bathroom. When demolishing the floor, the saw they used caused smoke to flow all thru the house. They should have opened a window and/or warned us to turn off the furnace blower during the process. While the job they performed seems to be of good quality, the install process could be improved. The billing process also did not work as stated in their agreement. We were billed via our charge card for the balance of the tile job before completion of the work when the terms of the agreement clearly state upon completion and customer acceptance. We contacted them and they agreed it should not have been billed. We left the date of the carpet install open as the holidays were approaching and we were going to be out of town. While on vacation we were surprised to receive a charge for the balance of the unscheduled carpet job. We contacted them and again they indicated that this should not have been charged and offered to credit the payment. We declined the offer saying we would trust them. We scheduled the carpet installation for late-February. The installers they provided were excellent and did a good job. They were very careful moving our furniture and took care not to cause any damage. They completed the installation ahead of schedule and we are happy with the results. I would highly compliment the installation crew on this job. The carpet is wearing well and is more pet-friendly than our previous carpeting. I think Tish provides a quality job at a fair price but needs to work on their back office processes to make sure they adhere to the terms of their agreements. It should be noted that they do follow-up post installation with a survey to get your input. We responded following both jobs.

We do appreciate the positive comments and the generous overall rating. While we are happy that this Angie's List member is pleased with the quality of the products and installation provided by our company, we view their feedback as absolutely vital. It informs us where to direct our immediate attention and it enables us to improve the service experience service that Angie's members, their family, friends, and neighbors expect from Tish Flooring. We are now in a position to improve our current methods for processing C.O.D. balances (this has already been addressed!) and to provide re-training to the tile crew that was assigned to this project. Thank you again, very much!

The gentleman that I worked with initially was good and knowledgeable and helpful. We had a couple of mixups in the beginning regarding our scheduled meetings but he was very apologetic and I would go through him again. The men who installed the carpet did a very good job. They were punctual and efficient and, actually, got the job done earlier than I expected which, I believe, is because they stayed on task once they arrived and got started.

We appreciate this member's comments; to be very frank, we, too, would be extremely frustrated if we felt that our attempts to d business with a reputable company were being ignored. There's absolutely no excuse for not following up! In this case, after being made aware of the problem through Angie's List, we immediately researched her claim and then contacted the member by phone. We re-assured her that the estimate was, in fact, emailed to her the morning following the in-home appointment and we then forwarded it to her with the time stamp. So often, a misunderstanding can be resolved in an instant with a phone conversation between two parties dealing in good faith. We are appreciative that we were able to communicate with this member and confirm for her that, while Tish Flooring is certainly not perfect (what company is?), we do deal, and have always dealt, professionally, honorably and in good faith.

A very professional operation. Harry Tish was very friendly and interested in attending to my needs. He came to my house and took measurements and showed examples. I could tell that this was a business with his name on the door and that he was proud of that fact and wanted to serve my needs. I then went to his store to review other examples and his apparent interest was not just selling me something but rather trying to ascertain what I wanted and then patiently walked me through the process and helped me choose what was right for me. His staff called to confirm installation dates and what I needed to do in preparation for the event. After the installation the staff called to make sure everything went well. The installers were punctual, friendly, clean and very good at what they do. I thought it would be a two day process but they were done in one day and I was thrilled with my decision of carpeting and to have it done by Tish. If I ever needed such service there is only one company that I would call and it would be Tish. They made me feel that this truly was a team effort and that they valued me as a customer and wanted everything to be perfect.

I called to set up an appt. and the woman Lisa or Amy set me up for a sales person to come that week. Tom Sur visited our home to take measurements and show me reasonable options for replacing our carpet to sell our home. He gave me his card and was able to email me an estimate of what the cost would be to replace our carpet (not the pad, per my request) and move furniture via email the same day. From there all I had to do was print off the agreement and sign it and email/fax it back. Then the customer service person took my information and set up an install date. We were charged 50% at time of signed agreement and 50% at install. My husband said that the installers were efficient and cleaned up after themselves. The installers left a receipt and the next day a letter came in the mail from Tom wishing us well in the sale of our home. Overall a very good experience and I would use them again.

Our experience with Tish Flooring MANAGEMENT has been very disappointing. Tish Flooring claims on their website "a commitment to personalized service" among other things. My wife and I however, did not find this to be true. We contacted Tish flooring and the Tish sales representative viewed the flooring area, listening to our requirements and quoted the job. Our major requirement was that all tile-to-hardwood transitions would be level and seamless by using utilizing a header board as opposed to an unsightly length of T-mould. We were very adamant about the transitions because from our front door entrance, and anywhere else in the foyer, all three thresholds of this custom built home were clearly visible. Upon entering the front door, straight ahead is the entrance to our great-room, immediately to the left is the office with inward-opening glass doors. (Doors that could ill afford to have a t-mold strip between the doors and the floor.) To the right is the formal dining-room. The flooring we choose was an engineered hardwood product in variable widths planks, 4, 5 & 6". The flooring arrived and the installers began. They first tore out the existing carpet and kitchen tile and then the old sub-flooring throughout the first floor.. Tish Flooring then informed me that a completely new ply-wood sub-floor would need to be installed throughout the house in order for them to insure my request for level transitions. I was also informed that we would be responsible for payment of the sub-flooring up-charge. We had communicated this request for seamless/level transitions to Tish Flooring on several occasions before this stage and felt that the added expense of the new sub-floor should not be incurred by us. We desperately wanted to move forward and settled with Tish Flooring by asking that they split the up-charge with us. They agreed and things proceeded. When the great-room portion of the job was completed, they started installing the header for the first wood-to-tile transition. The installer took an 8' plank and customized it to fit a variable space from approximately 7.5' length to a variable width running width of 1 1/8" to 1 1/2". We were not super-excited that the first piece of wood you see in this beautiful floor was this a narrow header. The dining-room transition was next and that header seemed to be a full width and clean length but was a bit high. The office was the last room to be finished. We called Tish Flooring and Joe, the foreman for Tish installers, stopped by. We explained that there were three different treatments on each transition. We already had two visitors that week comment on the inconsistency of thresholds! Joe, said that T-moulds were the way to go. T-moulds are the easiest for the installer and the ugliest for the home owner. He also displayed very little compassion for our concerns and was more interested in telling us what was the usual default move. Joe, at this moment the representative face of Tish Flooring, was absolutely no help. Shortly after installation I noticed tiny pieces of wood in my office door threshold and discovered that the high hardwood edge going into my office was starting to splinter off. About a month ago I noticed larger pieces breaking away and called Katie at Tish Flooring, Katie handles customer service calls and assured me that the lead installer on our job would stop by and take a look. The installer, Sean, stopped by and said it would take a while to fix and would come back that Saturday. In the meantime, Joe, the foreman called and let me know that he had already been out to speak with me and my wife a few times. As if his presence should have been enough to satisfy us. Sean came over on his off day and repaired the damaged header. Looking at the header now, about three week later, it is still well above the tile line. Katy called me a week later to check up on the repair. I told her, despite Sean's best efforts, the wood edge was still high at the threshold. She was going to send Joe back out and I shared with her I preferred not to deal with him. She shared that she would send out Harry Tishler, one of the owners of Tish Flooring. We thought, finally, a resolution is in sight! After many false starts, and two and a half weeks later, Mr Tishler came with Joe in tow. He listen carefully and was very PC as he explained Tish Flooring's business policies. Summing up it was a "what we are obligated to do by contract and we decide what is correct" speech. He was polite and very magnanimous in his bearing. He stated that the height of the hardwood above the tile is well within the industry standards. I believe he referred to the National Wood Flooring Association guidelines and said that an industry flooring inspector would agree that the transition were within guidelines and basically, that's as good as it gets. He also said that Tish Flooring wants the customer to be satisfied and goes out of their way to make sure this happens - yadda yadda. Not so much in our case I guess. I offered a couple of ways to remedy the situation such as shave thickness off of the hardwood on the back surface and re-install. Or, cut the the sub-flooring down a bit by sanding or planing and feathering to the correct height, if necessary, with roofing paper to achieve level. He said both ways would possibly work but that would call for customized work and, although he could arrange for that, it would be up to us to pay for it - completely. At this point it was obvious we were at an impasse and nothing was to be gained from further discussion. All Joe really said the entire time was "this is like the fourth time I've been here". Unbelievable! The height of the hardwood in my office food threshold is variable. It crowns in the middle at 3/16". According to the National Wood Flooring Association, the guidelines are "make sure the customer is satisfied". The technical representative of the NWFA that I spoke with did share that they (Tish) should "make it right". He too had several techniques ways to make that happen. He stated that a T-mould definitely wasn't the way to go on a $13,000.00 flooring job. He said that Tish should contract with someone who could fix this problem if they didn't have the personal on hand to do so. I recently had an independent flooring installer in to do some work. I asked him blindly what he would do to remedy this transition. He said, "contour the back of the hardwood and re-install," it would take a couple of hours he said. I explained that Tish stated that such work was a carpenter's job. This guy said that is was a flooring installers job and he does it all the time! FOR THE RECORD. The actual installers they sent to our home were the nicest, most considerate team I have ever seen. They worked hard and did their best to get this job finished on time. They were professional and very neat. The lead, Sean, even came by on weekends to help tie things up. These installers deserve an A+. but can only do what his bosses will allow. Tish office personnel were also very accommodating. Tish Flooring wasn't the lowest quote that we had, but with the Angie's List endorsement, we thought they were they right choice. We want Tish Flooring to make good on their promise to keep the customer satisfied.

Response from Tish Flooring
This letter is in response to your inquiry dated 1/13/14 regarding [member name removed] and his dissatisfaction with Tish Flooring. We appreciate being given the opportunity to further assist [member name removed], and Angie’s List member. It is gratifying to know that [member name removed] found our company representatives to be the most considerate team he has ever seen. And we sincerely appreciate his grade of A+ for our installers and the experience they delivered. These types of compliments mean everything to service companies like ours and we sincerely appreciate it. Unfortunately, in the case of this installation, the member is assigning responsibility to Tish for delivering a cosmetic solution to a very minor, uneven site condition that cannot easily be corrected by basic carpentry, contrary to his assertion. [member name removed] desired resolution for Tish to “fix the flooring transitions correctly” is misguided given the flooring is already installed within an acceptable tolerance in light of the uneven condition of the tiles to which it abuts and altering the board may create even more undesirable effects. First, it is important to define the member’s claim as we understand it. The hardwood plank header board that Tish Flooring installed is nominally 1/16” to1/8” higher or less than some of the tiles it meets. Apparently, the member is dissatisfied that plank is not precisely even with his uneven tile. This plank was installed at the customer’s direction – in a custom manner – and in lieu of the manufacturer’s transition moulding that was specifically designed for this type of condition. [member name removed] may find them undesirable, but installation of transition mouldings is the industry-accepted approach to “bridging” a joint where tow uneven floor surfaces meet. Transition mouldings were suggested early in the process but [member name removed] was emphatic that they not be installed. At no time did representatives of Tish Flooring promise him that adding a layer of subfloor would completely mitigate the unevenness at the doorway or provide a for a perfectly flush transition up to his uneven tiles. In fact, it did not. [member name removed] now endeavors to hold Tish Flooring responsible for a miniscule variance between two boards that are already correctly installed under the circumstances; this variance is the direct result of the direction he provided to our representatives. The core issues are that the tile is uneven and the contour of the subfloor apparently varies from one upright member of the door opening to the other. Some tiles are higher than others. Logically, the transition cannot be made precisely flush unless the existing tile were removed, the substrates underneath it corrected, and new tile installed uniformly. This type of application is the reason hardwood flooring manufacturers make transition mouldings in the first place. We agree with the member that removing existing wood in the affected area and sanding the subfloor or modifying planks in order to follow the general contour of the tile edge approaches that could be attempted; however, even if a new board were to be “sculpted” and reinstalled, the raw, unfinished edges of the plans that abut the ends of the modified board will likely be higher in profile and visually unappealing. It is unlikely that this will render a satisfactory result. (It is apparent that neither the member’s floor installer nor the help desk at the NWFA informed him of this.) Had [member name removed] informed our representatives that he expected his flooring to match up n the uneven tile in this doorway with zero tolerance height variation between boards we would have had a very different discussion regarding this aspect of his project. Based on the foregoing, Tish Flooring is willing to offer two options conditionally: Tish will provide and install a new, modified header board plank and, if needed, sand the subfloor beneath it, on a “No Guaranty” basis. This will likely result in exposing the raw edges of contiguous planks at the ends (as described above), but we are willing to attempt this on [member name removed] behalf on a time and material basis provided he pay half of the cost for this and any related services that may be needed – or Tish will refund (or credit) $250.00 as a courtesy adjustment to [member name removed] account. He can apply these funds to the bill from his independent installer should he elect to have him do the work or spend the funds however he wishes. These options are offered provided the member agrees to sign a full release furnished by Tish. We have completed and attached pages 6-9 of your Resolution Process forms. Thank you for your effort to assist both [member name removed] and Tish Flooring in this matter. Sincerely, Harry Tishler for Tish Flooring, Inc.
Excellent service from start to finish. David (salesman) was prompt and placed my order very quickly. My staircase was wide and was the reason for the added cost of this job. Tearing out all of the old tile was a huge job. The crew was careful not to damage my kitchen cabinets which can not be replaced. There were a few nicks in my drywall...but that is to be expected in any job this large and easy to fix. Shawn and his install crew did an awesome job and were a pleasure to work with. Shawn used great care in all of the installation details...around the fireplace, trim work around the kitchen cabinets and baseboards. I had this job quoted by two other flooring companies. I'm glad I chose Tish. The finished product is absolutely stunning and very easy to clean. I plan to post photos soon because this floor is so beautiful. I doubt that my floors would look this good if I had used one of the other flooring companies.

I was referred to Tish Flooring through my realtor when we recently purchased a home in Northeastern Brown County. I called Tish and was put in contact with Wes Haining. Wes was fantastic. I was concerned that since this property is 75 minutes from their showroom that the distance would be a factor. This was not the case. Wes met my wife and I at our property with a car load of samples. We quickly identified the products we liked and Wes put together a thorough price quote. We agreed to terms and ordered the products on 12/7/2013. The install was completed on 12/23/2013 as promised before Christmas! We were not present for install, but the contractors cleaned up after themselves and when we came down to see the result we were very impressed. The work was A+ quality and made such a difference to us visually. We were kept informed throughout the process. There was an extra labor charge added on when the old carpet was removed. Wes called us and informed us of a sub flooring that was tightly adhered that was going to take 3 men an additional 3 hours of scraping that was not foreseen. We certainly understood this and the extra charge was very reasonable in our opinion. We couldn't be happier with the final result and with the entire process. Great job Tish Flooring. We will certainly use your services in the future and would gladly refer to all our friends and family. Thank you!!
Description of Work: Tish flooring came to our property in Northeastern Brown County from West 86th street Indy to install a waterproof vinyl laminate floor in our basement. They also replaced our carpeted floors in our 2 bathrooms with tile. Finally, they installed a subway tile product for backsplash in our kitchen. The price also included all removal of old floorings, grout, finishing work, and disposal.

We can think of no better way to close out 2013 than to open our Inbox and find such a supportive, friendly review from another great customer on Angie's List. We are really fortunate to have experienced, service-minded Project Managers such as Wes on our team. Many thanks to this customer for taking the time to post such thoughtful review.

I asked a number of questions about the carpet, installation service, invoice on the front end of the project and I am glad I did. While our overall experience was positive, it is clear that there are communication issues within the company between sales and installers. There was reportedly no communication between Tish and the installers about our closets requiring so much detail work and the need to move furniture on the second floor. The installers, Tony, Kevin, and Warren, did a nice job, worked hard and were pleasant. The most comforting aspect of the job was when Tony found my wife' wedding ring (had misplaced it for a few weeks) and could have easily kept it...but he did not. Thanks Tony for your honesty!

This was a great project. Our team really enjoyed working with this member. We were a bit surprised to learn that the member perceived there to be a communication gap between our Project Manager and the Crew Chief. We reviewed the paperwork and spoke to the parties involved as we do anytime a customer raises a concern. The installer was clearly aware that this job involved handling furniture, so no issue there. There was some disassembly and reassembly of office-type furniture items about which the Crew Chief, Tony, called our Project Manager to confirm and they also discussed some additional cutting around closet shelving units at that time. Ultimately, the job proceeded as planned. As the member points out, the overall experience was a positive one for all concerned. Perhaps more exciting than installing the new carpet was finding and returning the members’ lost wedding ring! That was gratifying for Tony, the crew, and for our all of us at Tish Flooring. We sincerely appreciate the feedback and we are grateful to have been of service.

UPDATE 12/20/2013: After reading my review, Tish contacted me to get my few concerns addressed. Although I was still pleased overall with my experience, Katie at Tish fixed all of my concerns without question. With Katie and Tom addressing all of my needs, I will certainly contact Tish in the future for all of my flooring needs. This service went very well overall. Tom Sur was my salesman, who did a very good job of explaining the services they provide along with information on the different types of carpet and pads available. Their price for approximately 2,100 square feet was tough to beat. The price also included moving furniture, nailing down any loose floor boards and pet stain resistant carpet pad. The contract for payment is 50% down and 50% upon completion of work. The lady working with me on scheduling a time for install was patient with me as I wanted to delay the install in order to get a few other items completed in my house prior to the install. We scheduled 3 days for the install, depending on who would be sent out to install it. The installation is sub-contracted. They sent 5 guys to do the install, who did it in about 6-8 hours, much faster than expected. The installation looked very good, and I have a keen eye for details and quality work. After the work was done, the lead installer went around the house with me to see if there's anything else I needed prior to their departure. Once we were done with the walk through, I paid him the balance of the work. After they left, I did notice a few things that bothered me. These are small things that is not the fault of Tish, but of the sub-contractors. I noticed that they used one of our wash cloths for wiping down our bathroom (yes, our 1980's house has one bathroom with carpet) which we determined to be ruined. We also noticed that some of my son's halloween candy that was on the counter was eaten while they were working on the living room and dining room. Once again, this is not the fault of Tish and even with that done I still think the quality and the price of the work is hard to beat. I had Tish recommended to me by my neighbor and I will certainly recommend them to anyone who needs new carpet installed.

We are very grateful for the kind comments. There is one distinction to be made, however; while our installation crews are subcontractors, unlike some "big box" firms many of our folks have been with us 5, 10, even 15 years! So, we are proud that our subcontractors choose to work exclusively with us (in most cases); there is no revolving door of unqualified installers here at Tish! Their workmanship, technical skills, and the experiences they deliver to our clients reflects on our organization overall. If one of the crew helpers helped themselves to pieces of candy or a washcloth as the member describes, this is not something we view as separate from Tish. When we send our representatives to a member's homes, whether it is an employee or a subcontractor, the experience should be consistently positive. This is a primary focus for us; our procedures and policies are built around this as well. We would like for the member to be looking in the mail for a package from Tish Flooring: one bundle of our famous Green Apply Jolly Rancher candies, some coordinating wash cloths, and a Giftcard as a token of our appreciation for their trust in Tish Flooring!

It went great. The sales rep was very informative. They were able to get the flooring in and installed in just over a week. After the first day, 3/4ths of the house was done and there was no trash or scraps about the house. Very pleased with overall experience.

We were getting ready to put our house up for sale and we knew the carpeting had to be replaced as it was several years old, worn, and dirty-beyond-repair in several places. Between the great room, two guest bedrooms and the master bedroom, we have several hundred square feet to replace. The guys did a good job and got the place looking great, such that we got an offer our first day on the market.

Contacted Tish flooring to see about replacing the carpeting in our house. We like the reviews they got on Angie's list, plus they would come to our home to show us carpet samples. Tom arrived Saturday morning and brought in some samples. We liked what we saw so he measured the house to give us an estimate. We received the estimate on Monday as promised. The price was less than we had expected, which is always a nice surprise. We gave Tish our deposit check on Monday, Sept 30 and they got us scheduled for the install on Thursday, Oct 3. We were extremely happy with being able to get the carpet installed so quickly. The install crew arrived Thursday morning when promised. They did a fantastic job installing the carpet. They even replaced the carpet in a downstairs closet that we forgot to include in the estimate. We couldn't be happier with the job Tish did! We will absolutely use them again when we have any flooring needs!

We contacted Tish Flooring when we moved into our new home. A salesperson, David Hirsch, promptly responded to our request for an estimate and arrived at our home to show us their product. We were drawn to Tish because of their in-home consultation and willingness to work with our busy schedule. When the salesperson arrived, he was very thorough and measured every room with great detail. We chose a carpet based on quality, value and David's recommendations. Our first mistake in the process was to assume that he would recommend carpet that would work well in our home. He never once mentioned the carpet and pad we chose would present a potential issue with door clearance. Had he done so, we would have appreciated the advice and chosen a different product. On the day of installation, the crew was scheduled to arrive early morning however they did not show until after 10 A.M. This caused them to not complete the job until close to 11:00 PM. Once the Installers finished we came upstairs to review the work and pay the remaining bill. At that time we were shocked to find 11 doors off their hinges and laying against walls in various rooms. When we asked the installer why the doors weren't replaced, he informed us that the pile and pad of the carpet we chose was too high and the doors would not close. Not one time during the 12 hour installation did someone from the installation crew come downstairs to advise us of the issue. At that time, we were disappointed with their service and felt sure that Tish would offer a solution. So, we withheld the remaining payment until we could contact our salesperson. The following day we contacted Tish Flooring and the response we received was simply "we don't fix doors. It's in your contract." We spoke to the salesperson, a manager and finally the owner. We were not looking for a handout, just understanding that MAYBE the Sales Person or Installers should have mentioned that once the carpet is installed in your home you will have no working doors. Shame on us because it is in their contract. We acknowledge blame for the oversight. However, it was at the bottom of a contract that the salesman never reviewed with us. Furthermore, we are not carpet experts. A salesman who was looking out for the best interest of the customer should have mentioned that this product may not be the best one for your home. On their website, Tish prides themselves in "commitment to service." We experienced everything but good customer service. The owner of the company, Mel Tishler, was incredibly condescending and seemed to take pride only in the fact that he had an iron clad contract that states we do not trim doors. He literally could have cared less if I was actually satisfied. We paid the bill in full and also the bill for our contractor to trim the 11 doors and hang them back up. At the end of the day, we were actually happy with the product and thought that was the one positive aspect of our experience until 2 weeks later when several seams were starting to become pretty visible. So, we're not even pleased with the product we received. We have NEVER given a poor Angie's List review and hope to never do so again.

We sincerely apologize if the member feels as though they were communicated to in a condescending manner. This is simply not our style. We are in the flooring business, but we are also in the business of working diligently to earn every customer’s loyalty to Tish Flooring. In this instance and it seems we fell short. Again, we apologize for this. With regard to the after 10 AM arrival, it is our practice to offer timeframes based on the information that is available to us. Typically, we provide a three-hour window for arrivals: for example, 8:00 AM-11:00 AM. Our actual arrival depends on the location of the member's home and the quantity, location and type of materials needed for their project, etc. Our representatives arrived within the timeframe that was given to this member, so the duration of the project is a separate issue in our view. In that regard, while working until 11 PM is not common, some of our crews will stay late if the homeowner is agreeable. And many customers appreciate the willingness of service providers to stay late. Others prefer that we end our workday before or around the dinner hour. In either case, to describe our installation crew’s arrival as, “…they did not show until after 10 A.M.”, is not nearly the same as acknowledging “they arrived within the three hour window I was given” which, in fact, we did. Regarding the doors and clearance issues, this is covered in our Contract. The pre-printed Terms and Conditions on a Tish Flooring Contract are written in an easy-to-understand style and they take up about one half a page. The document is “customer friendly”. (For perspective, we would direct this member to compare our simple contract to one from a big box retailer.) Homeowners buy new, thicker carpet virtually every day. Sometimes, a potential door clearance issue is readily apparent to our representative doing the measuring and estimating. Other times it is virtually impossible to predetermine whether a particular pile might be too high. So, while we understand the member’s rationale, we stand by our Project Manager on this one. Regardless of who is at fault, while this member acknowledges that they should have read the contract, we acknowledge that some flexibility on our part might have helped to turn a disappointed customer into a loyal Tish client. Perhaps we may have another opportunity to do this… As always, we fully guarantee the quality of our workmanship. In fact, our warranty is twice the duration of many other companies. We would appreciate the opportunity to assess the seams in the carpet that the member referred to above. We respectfully request that they contact Katie Hughes, our Client Care Manager, at 317-879-8474 x37 or katie@tishflooring.com, to schedule a time for one of our technicians to come take a look. Thank you!

The entire process was professional and transparent. We wanted carpet in our living room instead of our laminate flooring. The removal of the laminate made the process a bit more expensive. The carpet was a nice stain-resistant carpet from Shaw that is really nice on the feet as well. Tom, the salesperson, was excellent to work with and we recommend using both he and Shaw.

The sales person I was working with was nice and helpful with working around my schedule...the trouble came after I made my purchase, paid, and installation of the carpet began. The workers came to install the carpet but didn't have all the equipment, so I had to wait at home a second day so they could finish what was supposed to be a one day job. They also installed carpet in a walk in closet but forgot to cut the air vent holes out, so it was good that they did come back the next day anyway so they could complete that job as well. After installation, trash was left in the basement, tack strips, cardboard, excess materials that were trash when they left. They also were supposed to re-stretch a room upstairs that I was told by the original salesman would be included in the price, but then the installer charged me $50 and wanted a check written to him, not to Tish. That should have been my red flag. Shortly after installation was complete, my husband and I noticed a section where the carpet seam wasn't installed properly and it was pretty obvious where the seam was. I called and emailed the installation coordinator at Tish numerous times (estimate that I tried contacting them at least 10 times to get someone out to look at the seam). The original install was done in February, they didn't send someone out to look at the carpet until June. The guy came to inspect and said they would contact the installer to come fix it. They never contacted me, so I contacted the owner through Angie's List (I assume he is the owner) and finally got some action. They scheduled the original installer (who screwed up in the first place) to come out...but not til the end of August! I was told the installer would be at my home first thing that morning, which to normal people is 8-9AM. He didn't show up until at least 10AM and he was supposed to call me before he showed up at my house. He never called so at 10AM I left my father in law (who was visiting from out of town) at the house and told him if the carpet guy ever showed up to let him in to fix the seam. The installer did finally show up sometime after 10AM, but didn't bring his equipment or anything to fix the seam...again! My father in law said he knocked on the door 3 different times and finally brought some solvent in and spread it on the seam and tried to brush out the glue...which didn't work. The seam is still there, right in the middle of the floor, and I guess it always will be. Long story short, the sales people at Tish seem very honest but it was a nightmare dealing with the installers - who don't seem to work directly for Tish. It seems they are separate contractors. Then when you try to call back to get them to fix a problem, they don't want to work with you at all. Maybe it was the person I was dealing with in the beginning (the lady that finally scheduled the installer to come back seemed very competent over email), but I would never use Tish again for flooring based on the last 7 months of being ignored and given excuse after excuse for why they didn't call/email me back.

We reviewed the member's file to determine how our post-installation service failed her; follow-up service, when needed, is one of the strongest aspects of our organization. So, we take her comments very, very seriously. We were a bit surprised to learn that 10 calls regarding a basic seam repair were placed and went unanswered and that so many months transpired before this member brought their claim to the attention of our ownership. A customer should not have to call a company owner to step in; but, service breaks do happen and stepping in is one of the primary responsibilities of any business operator when things go awry. While there is no good excuse for leaving job refuse behind or arriving late without the proper repair equipment we can, at the very least, react and assist the member to the extent that they will allow us to do so at this late date. Certainly, we sincerely apologize; we will reimburse their $50; and we will offer other considerations as needed (albeit at a point that may be too late to regain this member's confidence in Tish Flooring). While we certainly appreciate this member's frustration and comments regarding our installation representatives, it is important to state that some of our crews have been with Tish Flooring over 15 years; most have been with us between 5-10 years. We are not perfect and do not claim to be, but our people are skilled, qualified professionals capable of managing even the complex installation projects. When post-installation service of any type is needed, this member or any Tish Flooring client may contact their Project Manager directly or Katie Hughes, Client Care Manager, at 317-879-TISH Monday-Friday. Ms. Hughes typically returns calls within an hour or two if not the same business day. Thank you.
