SHS Pool & Spa Service

Called 3 companies for pool repair on the same evening after hours calls. Left messages for all 3. Following day received a call from SHS and they schedule me for service on Sat. At 10am according to the girl from the office. Only day they could come and was 4 days after initial call. Explained they were booked during week doing pool cleaning. The Sat appt. was OK. One other company called and after explaining the repair needed they said they would check the techs to see if they could make this type of repair....never heard back from them. On Sat. At 10:15a received call from Elden explaining he was installing a heater at another appt. and would not be able to come until Sat. Afternoon. Unable to accommodate his schedule Sat. Afternoon, but he apologized and said he could come on Sun. At approx. 11am. I called Sun to confirm and Elden called back said he would be at my home in about 45 min. He arrived and began work very hard to figure out the problem. He spent at least an hour troubleshooting the issue. He had just deinstalled a heater just like mine and when he could not get mine going offered to switch out the burner tray from old heater which included the gas valve which he thought was defective on my unit for just the cost of the labor. We agreed to try it and right before installing he look things over again and found a wire which was a little lose and after securing tried to fire up the heater again and it worked. Will use this company again!

We want to recommend this company to any and all. He could have convinced us to sign up for monthly service or some kind of service and instead educated us with all we need to maintain our swim spa ourselves, and didn't charge us for this valuable service!! When/if we need service we will definitely be calling him!

A week earlier, Imperial Spa came out to fix my hot tub. The water level was down and the heater was off. He flipped the circuit,hit the reset switch,charged me $85 and told me to call if that didn't work. He was here all of 5 mins. In his defense,I do understand trip charges,but to not even try to diagnose the problem. Since this was the second time I paid this company for nothing,my senses returned to me and I consulted Angie's list. Elden came out the first available time he had available..in a matter of minutes,he diagnosed the problem and explained to me what was wrong and possible reasons. He worked in the cold rain and brought the hot tub back to working perfectly. He is such a pleasant man to work with. He was very professional and gently told us how this all had happened. He explained part and labor estimates before he did the work. He was so kind. When we told him we were clueless on the tub (homeowner was gone),he showed us how to test the water,shock it and clean it. He was not smug nor condescending. I will only call him for future needs.

Eldon did a fantastic job on the hot tub. He drained, cleaned, and refilled the tub as well as treated the water and cleaned the hot tub cover. Very reasonable prices considering the quotes I got from calling around to some of the other hot tub services listed.

We noticed that our hot tub had stopped heating on 1/12/13. Called Elden and left a message about trying to get him to come out to take a look on 1/14/13 since we had some seriously cold weather coming our way. Elden called me on the morning of 1/14/13 and was able to come out. Found out that there was a leak around the bulb in the tub and the water ended up killing the circulating motor. He replaced the motor and while replacing it, we found that the heating element and pressure switch were both shot. Replaced both of them as well as some various gaskets that were deteriorating and some jets that had broken off. A pricey day but Elden did a fantastic job and was incredibly responsive. This very easily could have been an extremely expensive repair had he not come out on the 14th. I was grateful that he was as he's definitely sold me on his services.

We were extremely please with the responsiveness and quality of the service we received from Eldon. To start with, he traveled to Muncie on a Sunday afternoon to diagnose the problem. This was well outside of his published call area of Indianapolis and the surrounding area. He told us exactly what was wrong and what procedures we could use to protect the tub in the cold weather while we were waiting for the heater to arrive. He stayed in touch with us through the order process, and promptly made the trip back to Muncie to Install the heater upon arrival. Eldon's responsiveness speaks well of his company, and we will most definitely recommend him to others.

There were delays that made the job last too long; however, the weather did not the help. With that said we are completely satisfied with the finished product. We had another liner put in years ago, and there is no comparison to SHS's quality, professionalism, and meticulous attention to detail. The price was a little high, but worth every penny.

In my opinion - Elden did an excellant job repairing my pool cover mechanism, and I believe that the cover will work for years now with the proper preventive maintenance. Time will tell -- but I do now plan to use SHS for most of my pool needs including "opening" and "closing" my pool. My only "complaint" -- SHS is hard to contact and schedule when you need repairs -- I guess partly becuase they are good at what they do - repair pool/SPA issues in the summer -- and I do note from the Angie website that Elden had trouble with his repair truck this summer.

Elden came out on July 16th to do the estimate and was late because of transmission problems, but was very apologetic and friendly when he arrived. He estimated our costs in person on the same day and emailed us a copy of the invoice to approve. We discovered through several other trials and estimates that we had a few other issues to be fixed. I sent Elden a photo of another part that was leaking after the tub was filled up past the bottom portion and he immediately estimated the cost. His estimate of $670 was well below other estimates of $887 up to $1200 to fix the issues. We went with SHS Pool services and Elden fixed our tub in two hours and ordered us a new cover. Our experience was wonderful. Elden brought us the new cover a week later, told us what to use on the material to keep it looking nice- and even recommended a process to stain our newly-installed fence. Despite any issues that Elden might have been having with his truck he never had a bad attitude or complained. He was very friendly, reasonably priced and helpful. We would definitely use this company again.

I used SHS for the first time to open my pool this year and I thought they did an excellent job. I have had Eldon come back a couple of times since then to make some repairs--most recently I needed a new motor on my pump. He was there the next day, made sure that's what was needed and replaced it. He is very honest and knowledgeable and I would recommend him without hesitation.

I highly recommend this company for pool care and maintenance! We have a contract with them to have weekly cleaning and service (as well as opening and closing). It is money well spent as all we do with our pool is enjoy it! They are professional and responsive.

Elden has been our pool "guy" for the last couple of years...has opened and closed our pool as well as maintained it throughout the summer. I have always been impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. He has been in the pool business for years and is one of the most knowledgeable persons I have come in contact with since we've had the pool. I would highly recommend his service.

Eldon is great - he has serviced my pool for SEVERAL years and he knows his stuff!

I called and spoke with him atleast 2 weeks before a pool inspection on a house we were buying. He TEXTED, NOT CALLED ME, and cancelled 2 days before after he had already committed himself. I live 2 1/2 hours away and had to scramble to find someone in time. Not good business and not reliable!I

I just bought a home and wanted the pool inspected. I contacted this company to schedule an appointment for the same day the home inspections was taking place, so I could have both inspections done at once. I never heard back from this company. They didn't even call to tell me they were unavailable that day. Very unprofessional and rude.

They know exactly how to make the pool sparkly and maintenace free.

They were very thorough and prompt in their service. They did a good job.

The experience is consistent and the quality of work is good. They maintain my pool all summer, too.

I moved into a house that had a hot tub but wasn't working. I checked Angie's list and found that Eldon received an A+ rating and after reading through the comments decided to try him out. He returned my immediately and came out to the house to provide an estimate. The estimate was higher than what I'd expected however it was because the previous homeowners hadn't maintained the hot tub properly. Eldon described exactly what needed to be done and I allowed him to do so. Eldon showed up to do the work on the exact day he said he would. He was very professional and courteous. He finished the work quickly and I was delighted with his results. I'd originally called Royal Spa, the manufacturer of the tub however wasn't happy with the conversation. I would highly recommend eldon and wouldn't let anyone other than him touch the spa in the future.

The company was responsive to my initial call. They performed the services in a very acceptable time frame. Although the work was more extensive than they originally expected and took longer than they had anticipated, they completed it for the original estimate. They took time to answer my questions about how to maintain the hot tub and were gracious and friendly throughout the work. They cleaned up after themselves well before leaving.

I purchased a hot tub from O.co that was damaged during delivery. O.co did not have a service person in the area, so I checked Angies list. I called SHS on Thursday, and they were able to come out first thing Friday morning. They arrived on time, were quick to find the issue, and were able to get the parts and fix it that same day. Very happy with the service and would use again.

He was great. Services were good and reasonable. He talked to me about why he was doing it and how. I just really like him.

We had a rough beginning. He was extremely busy when I first called him and there were some mixups in the scheduling of our first meeting. At one point I had decided to just try to find someone else to do the work, but no other companies that I called were able to or willing to perform the service without coordinating mutiple companies because none of them had the in-house expertise to complete the job start to finish. Sure, there were people willing to do one part, have someone else do the next part, then the first was willing to come back and finish it up, but I didn't want the headache of coordinating it all. I was very close to just filling in the pool, but my gut told me to give him SHS a chance. A big part of his reason for being difficult to get in touch with was the fact that he was out of the country doing some charity work around this period, which told me at the very least he's a guy that cares about doing good for others. Given the circumstances I gave it another try and was able to talk directly to Elden. Once I finally connected with Elden, he was very straightforward about when he would be available, and he also gave me some good advice in how to save money on the project. Several months later he became available and was able to come out to look at the problem it quickly became apparent he knew what he was doing. His knowledge of everything pools was pretty incredible. I've worked with several companies on different projects, but they all had specialized knowledge about certain aspects of pools. He understands pools top to bottom, from how they are constructed, to how to make them work efficiently after installation, to how to repair them. I'm convinced no one else in the Indianapolis area would have been able to complete the work (trust me I called every other pool/concrete/construction company I could find and he was the only one willing to tackle the problem without subcontracting). Once we decided to move forward with the project Elden met or exceeded expectations every step of the way. When something came up that didn't hurt the quality of the finished project, but he was able to save us some money on he would bring it to our attention. At one point, we discovered that the previous owner had cemented in our pool ladder making it impossible to extract it to put a cover on. I was convinced we would have to trash the old ladder, but Elden requested that we give him some extra time to try to cut it out of the concrete. He was able to save the ladder and save us several hundred dollars. That's just one example of the type of thing he did that he really didn't have to do. He was able to find us good deals on both the liner and the safety cover. In the case of the safety cover he discovered that someone had misordered one that was a close fit for our pool so he secured that for us at a heavy discount. Then the work begins... On day one they drained the pool and busted out the concrete deck on one end. They straightened out the wall and the stairs and repoured the concrete during that week. A couple of weeks passed while we were waiting for the liner to come in. During this time they patched the bottom of the pool where it had gotten banged up over the years. Elden was very good about communicating where his team was at in the process throughout the project, which made it easy to answer my wife's questions about why the pool area looked like world war III had occurred back there. Additionally, Elden and his team did a great job of minimizing damage to the lawn with all of the equipment they had used. The ground was very soft at this time and I was suprised at the lack of damage. (I noticed that he put some mats down where workers were walking back and forth frequently, nice touch that most contractors wouldn't have even thought of) Once the liner came in they installed it, and shortly thereafter the safety cover was installed. Up to this point he's earned a solid "A" on everything. But there's more... He called to let me know the work was done. When I went home to inspect it everything was done as proposed. We had talked about having him fix our pool light at some point in the future, but he already had it done. So for the first time since we've owned the house the pool light works, despite several other attempts to get it fixed with no success. No charge for that. So I'm sitting there that night with the pool light on and I noticed a ripple in the bottom of the pool (having the pool light on highlights any imperfections). We confirmed that it was just an irregularity in the original concrete. I actually remembered it being there prior to him doing the work. Several hours after I gave him the final payment, Elden calls me and says the ripple on the bottom is bothering him and he doesn't want to just leave it. So he agreed to come back in the spring and fix it at no charge. This is no small undertaking. It will require him to redrain the pool, peel back the liner, fix the irregularity, and then replace the liner and water. I didn't expect him to or even ask him to fix it, but I guess in his mind this pool "has his name on it" now and he is clearly an upstanding professional. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He is a hard worker, delivers what he promises, and expects perfection from his work. If there is a way to get a project done he is going to figure out how to make it happen. My advice to any potential customers is to be prepared for it to take some time to secure an appointment with him. Be patient and try to be understanding if it appears that the back office side of things seems a little disorganized. It was definitely worth the wait. So why did he get an "A" on punctuality and responsiveness given our inital difficulties? The one thing I noticed about him was that while it was frustrating trying to get the first appointment, once Elden agreed to do something it got done. My points of frustration were all from my expectations that when you call a service person to get a quote they will just call you back. I came to realize that Elden is loyal to the customer(s) he is working with. If he doesn't have time to deal with getting new business he just won't do it. He told me that up front, but it wasn't until I was writing this report that I remembered that conversation. Six months passed from the time I first tried to call him from the time the work was done. While that can be frustrating for would-be customers as a current customer you couldn't ask for more. As a side note, this company is also known as Super Handyman Service. Its the same guy, this is just his pool service company.

Just a great guy....love the personal touch of a service provider who does what he says he is going to do.

Awesome don't think about calling him......just call him and enjoy the experience
