Description of Work: Cleaned and scotch-guarded all carpeting in my house (living room, dining room, one bedroom, one large floor rug, carpeted staircase, and hall) and cleaned and scotch-guarded three piece living room furniture set. Took the crew (two men) about two hours from start to finish. Men were good about asking questions before they started to make sure they cleaned what I wanted cleaned. All looked great when they were done. Only drawback was drying time. Lead salesman said carpets would dry in 8-10 hours; took almost 24 hours in some places. Running fans and a dehumidifier helped the drying process along.

Response from SEARS CARPET & AIR DUCT CLEANING
Thank you so much! We are thankful you chose Sears to help care for your carpets. In the cooler , damper winter months, sometimes dry time is a bit longer than in the summer - fans are the perfect solution to speed up the dry time in those situations! We so appreciate your business and look forward to the opportunity to serve you again in the future.

Thanks [removed member name]! We are so glad to hear about your son's asthma symptoms being reduced! The Environmental Protection Agency has stated homes can be up to 70 times more polluted that the outdoor environment. With regular duct cleaning and the installation of the UV light, you are taking great steps to improve the indoor air quality of your home. We greatly appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.

The work turned out good but the only thing was that it seemed like it took a long time to dry. It did seem like they were having equipment problems. It cost me $400 because I had them put the protector back on as well. I was happy with the results. I might probably use them again.

We bought the carpet that had to be stretched from a company that is no longer in business. Other flooring places are not keen on stretching somebody else's carpet. The only reason I chose Sears is because I know that they are going to be in business for a long time and they would be responsible for the work being done. There certainly wasn't anything stirring about their work or they were rather young. They worked hard and did the best they could, but there was nothing great about it all. I didn't think their price was good. Two young men came the first time, but they seemed to be a little bit lost about what to do. They went to get another guy who knew more about stretching carpets than they did. The other guy didn't come back with them. In the meantime, I had told them that the price was kind of high. I thought that if the other guy came back, I could talk to him about that as well, but he didn't come. They were punctual. If I did hire them in the future it would be only because of Sears being the anchor.
Description of Work: The carpet company came out and stretched our carpet and cleaned it.

They told me I needed to buy my filters. It cost $970 for the permanent filters. They told me permanent filters only need cleaning twice a year, which is the reason I replaced them. They didn't give me the paperwork that explained that the filters were good were for 6 months. Turns out the filters need to be cleaned every month. I would have never bought them knowing that i have to clean them every month. They have ignored us. We have called, written letters, and they just send us from one place to another. In the brochure they send out, it states that sears does not use subcontractors and everyone they send out is a certified employee. The person they sent out was a subcontractor and Sears refuses to resolve this situation. They also cleaned our carpets. I only hired them to get rid of pet odor and stains. They tested and said they could do the job. None of the places they cleaned removed the odor nor the stains. I paid $660 for the carpet cleaning. They still have not resolved this issue. Since Sears is a big company, we thought we could trust them. We can't believe how they are treating their customers.

I called SEARS's manager later offering reasonable negotiations to avoid both parties going through the court process. But they insisted full payment plus file fee, leaving no room for further discussion out of the court. I don't understand why a big company is so interested in suing a small customer for only hundreds of dollars and not listening to any communications. They claim "satisfaction guarantied", "We guarantee it's not clean until you say it's clean" in their ads, but I just don't feel it in my case. SEARS didn't warn us about the possibility of any damage in advance, and now they want to avoid paying any money to repair this damage by suing us. This doesn't look like the behavior of a big company. After the court hearing, the judge made a judgment against SEARS and I won the case. This further confirms what SEARS did, including suing their customer, was not appropriate. But so far I haven't received any apology from the company for all the psychological burdens they had created by suing me. Neither have they offered anything to repair the damage they caused. I think this kind of facts should be shared with Angie's List customers before they consider any deal with SEARS Carpet Upholstery."
Description of Work: I moved to Indianapolis and bought a house. We looked at newspaper ads in order to clean our carpet, because the previous owner had a dog. We asked SEARS Carpet and Upholstery Care Company in Indianapolis (317-577-1090) to clean our carpet. Unfortunately, after they cleaned, several spots appeared on our carpet in one room. Because the carpet is light brown and the discoloration was large and green, it made us pretty upset. We told SEARS that we'll pay their cleaning fee after they fix these obvious spots on our carpet. Before they came, the carpet was beautiful, but after their work, the carpet looked even worse. We thought it was not difficult for a professional cleaning company to fix this kind of problem. But SEARS said it's too expensive to repair and rejected our request. So they left and no further communication from them since then. We continued to wait wanting to understand how they'll fix the problem they created. Surprisingly several weeks later we receive a notification from the Court. And we found, as a customer and consumer, we are being sued by SEARS asking for paying all cleaning money plus delay fee plus legal file fee. I cannot imagine a big company like SEARS would take legal action against their old customer for just hundreds of dollars. It was not that I don't want to pay, but it was that they rejected to repair the damages. I don't think suing customer is a friendly way of communication by a big company like SEARS.

They were prompt and pleasant but then I felt like I was getting the sales job. As I said above I agreed to the sanitizer. It was a fog that they sucked through. Then they tried to sell me a $130 filter. But here is why I was so dissatisfied. They finished and packed up. As they were leaving I checked one of my ducts and it looked like it hadn't been touched! A half inch of dirt and dust still in there. I was able to catch them as they were just driving off. They came back and apologized and cleaned that section claiming they had missed it because that section of ductwork had been shut off by a valve in the basement. I also looked in the furnace that I paid them $170 to clean and there is still obvious dirt and dust. Unfortunately I looked after they left. The fact that they didn't check their work and pushing sales of more services just made feel like I had chosen the wrong company. I'll stick with the ones with more ratings in the future.
Description of Work: I scheduled air duct cleaning for an old house I recently purchased and when they came out I also agreed to have them clean the furnace. In addition they talked me into sanitizing the ducts saying that since my house had previously had coal and oil heat in the past there was buildup that the sanitizer would encapsulate. I think this was a total ripoff.

I called Sears Carpet Cleaning because of a coupon that I received in the mail, and thinking that they were related to the department store because they had the same logo... they are not related. Jon and James were polite and professional and did the best job they could do, but they couldn't completely get up the chocolate milk spill nor the other stain in my dining room. They came back a 2nd time and still couldn't completely get the chocolate milk stain out, but it's not as noticeable now. They couldn't get the other stain out in my dining room, which they tried to tell me was a pet stain. Another carpet cleaning company was able to treat the area and now the stain is no longer visible.
Description of Work: They cleaned a large chocolate milk spill on my off-white carpet in my breakfast area, and I decided to go ahead and have them clean and protect three areas, along with treating and cleaning the chocolate milk spill and another stain on white carpet in my dining room that was of unknown origin.

Sears came out. They were on time. They evaluated and counted all my ducts as I wasn't sure exactly how many I had when I scheduled. They gave me a final exact price and started work. They were done in about 1.5 hours. They were polite and professional. They did try to sell me some air filters which I did not need but were not pushy. Think is part of their typical call procedure. Apparently my ducts were really dirty as my builders used the AC during the construction process. This has helped a ton with the dust.
Description of Work: Cleaned all the air ducts in my 5400 sq ft house. I had a ton of ducts, I think over 30. Basically connected big suction hose to suck all dirt and debris out and used another hose to to blow air in and create a vortex. Seemed to work. A lot less dust. Price seemed competitive but do think its a lot to have ducts cleaned.

It went well. They showed up on time. The floor looked amazing and they followed detailed instructions such as locking the door behind them because we couldn't be there when they finished. The receptionist was very polite. I also used a valpack.com coupon to get that price. I was also referred by a friend who also liked their work. If you are going to get work done on Saturday call in advance because they are busy that day.

We have 7 areas of carpeting, about 990 sq. ft. We added enzyme cleaner and Teflon coating in all the rooms. In one of the bedrooms, there was a pet urine odor, that was still there after cleaning, and they came out and re-sprayed the enzyme cleaner, and now it's great. I bought special floor mats for the entry doors to help collect and hold the dirt; they are guaranteed for life. They only had 1 one the truck, but another cleaning person drove over to give me the 2nd one.

We hired Sears to clean our air ducts, in hopes of reducing the dust in our home. The technicians did not call the requested phone number ahead of time as promised, which caught us unaware early in the morning. Both techs seemed relatively new on the job, but were polite. I left to run errands (my husband was home), so I was not there when they left. When I returned, I found that the floor beneath each register or cold air return was filthy, and any furniture that they had moved was not returned to its original spot. Also, several hours later I discovered that they did not patch several holes they had cut into the main duct work in my basement, allowing heat to escape. When I called to complain, they said they would call back after contacting the techs. I waited over an hour, then left to run errands. When I returned, there was a piece of metal tape hanging on my front door, with a note asking that I patch the holes myself!
Description of Work: Cleaned air ducts within entire house. Also serviced furnace for an extra $100 charge. Also bought a ''lifetime'' furnace filter that the technicians recommended for another $100. (When Dial One came to service my AC this Spring, they laughed at the filter, and told me it was much worse at catching dust and debris than the 4'' media filter I already had in place.) I will be contacting Sears for my money back on this filter!

THE TWO GENTLEMEN WHO SERVICED MY AIR DUCTS ARRIVED AT THE APPOINTED TIME. THEY SEEMED TO KNOW WHAT THEY WERE DOING, AND I WILL SAY THAT THEY DID A GOOD JOB OF CLEANING THE DUCTS. I LIKED THE FACT THAT THEY PRICED BY THE DUCT AND NOT BY SQUARE FOOTAGE OF THE HOME. THEIR PRICE WAS CHEAPER THAN OTHERS. HOWEVER WHEN THEY CUT THE HOLES IN THE COLD AIR RETURN, THEY LEFT METAL SHAVINGS ALL OVER THE FLOOR AND DID NOT CLEAN THEM UP AND IN FACT TRACKED THRU THEM SEVERAL TIMES. I HAD TO VACUUM AFTER THEY LEFT. ALSO, WHEN ATTACHING A METAL PLATE TO CLOSE UP THE HOLE IN THE COLD AIR RETURN, THE MAN PUSHED SO HARD TRYING TO START THE SCREW THAT HE BENT THE DUCT INWARD, THEN LEFT IT THAT WAY. THEY ALSO EACH PICKED DUST OFF MY FILTER BEFORE REPLACING IT INTO THE COMPARTMENT AND FLICKED IT ONTO THE FLOOR. I DON'T THINK ANY OF THIS WAS INTENTIONAL, BUT WAS JUST INDICATIVE OF A GENERAL LACK OF THIS COMPANY'S ATTENTION TO DETAIL. I HAVE TO SAY THOUGH THAT THEY DID GET THE DUCTS VERY CLEAN.
Description of Work: AIR DUCTS WERE CLEANED AND FURNACE BLOWER WAS CLEANED. THIS CLEANING INVOLVES CUTTING A HOLE IN THE COLD RETURN, ATTACHING A SUCTION HOSE, AND RUNNING A STRINGLIKE 'BEATER' INTO EACH DUCT WHILE THE SUCTION HOSE SUCKS OUT THE LINT, DIRT, DEBRIS, ETC.
