I needed to have work done on a very short turnaround, to accomodate a new tenant. Called Steve on a Tuesday, explained the situation, and asked when he could fit it into his schedule (fully expecting to wait at least a week or two). Steve really came through, though, offering to do the work that Thurdsay and work into the evening if necessary to get the work done that day. Steve made himself available on Thursday even earlier than promised. Brought his assistant, went to the hardware store and picked up the countertop I had purchased the evening before (along with the sink, faucets etc.), came right back, and completed all the work by about 3:30 that afternoon. I was very impressed with Steve and his assistant and their willingness to help make my situation work. Steve is obviously very experienced, and has a terrific "let's get it done!" approach to business. I would absolutely recommend Schaefer Improvements - Thanks Steve!

I was very pleased that Steve listened to what I wanted and did not try to upsell me on something other than what I asked him to do. He was very open to doing additional small things for me while he was here.

Very good, Steve is a careful and hard-working home improvement specialist.

I can't add much more to what I said above. The first day Steve laid/glued the tile after he removed the toilet. The second day was for grouting. I provided the tile and grout. He added half round all the way around the perimeter. He cleaned up well and removed all trash.

Steve called prior to his arrive to let me know when to expect him. He arrived at the time specified. I walked through the house showing him everything I had on my list. I thought it was quite a lot, but not for Steve. He had an assistant with him, so with the two Bid Deals I had the two of them for 3 hours. About 2 hours into the job Steve asked if there was anything else, because they would be finishing soon. I actually ran to the store to buy four more light fixtures for them to install! I never thought they would be able to finish what I had on the list, let alone adding more. They were very professional, and easy to work with. I will absolutely use them again the the future.

I was really looking forward to working with Mr. Schaefer based on his excellent Angie's List reviews. However, he never responded to the message I sent him through this site, nor did he return my call after I left him a detailed voicemail. I was very disappointed that he did not bother to respond to me even if he was too busy to perform the work; I feel his failure to return messages was unprofessional. I will be hiring someone else for this job and for future work on our rentals.

Very prompt (in fact they called ahead to see if they could arrive early!). Very polite and got to work right away. I had a list of random things that needed fixed and there wasn't anything that they couldn't do! They were very efficient with their time and I felt like I got a steal with this special offer. I would absolutely recommend them and will certainly use them again when the need arrises.

Our garage service door and frame were damaged during a break in. Steve called me back the same day that I left a message and stopped by to look at it. He gave me a price on the spot and said he could fit it in the next day. I had been waiting three days for a response from another contractor, so I accepted to get the garage secured. Steve and his helper showed up on time the next day and completed the job in only one hour. Steve advised that they do just about everything in terms of home repair and maintenance. I will definitely use him again.

They did a real nice job on both projects especially the drywall which was textured and they matched existing very well..

Steve always does a great job- we will continue to call him when we have work to do around the house!

Steve and his helper arrived on time and ready to work. I have a 24' x 24' billiard room with a cathedral ceiling and all of the drywall tape was falling out of every corner including the ceiling. Rather than re tape it all I decided to have them covered with case moulding. The moulding had to be ripped the entire lengths at an angle and some had to be beveled on the ends. They had to use a scaffold to do the center of the cathedral ceiling and work around a pool table that couldn't be moved. After nailing, they caulked all around every piece. The job was finished and cleaned up in very good time. I am very happy with the way the job was performed and with the outcome. I no longer have to see all of that loose tape.

We initially met Steve when we asked him to give us an estimate on our roof, which we thought might have been damaged in a hail storm. There was no damage so no work was done. Just a little while later, the house next door to us, which was being repaired, was broken into and the thieves, trying to steal the furnace in the basement, cut the gas line. Consequently, the house exploded and we had some major damage to one side of our house (siding) and the AC unit. We called Steve and he was very helpful in dealing with our insurance company, State Farm. Steve, along with our insurance adjustor, was able to get us a new furnace along with the AC unit; the reason being the new AC unit would not be compatible with our old furnace. We had to wait until the rubble was cleared off our house but once it was gone, Steve and his crew were quick to show up and begin working on our home. As mentioned above, the furnace and AC unit were done first. Second, the siding was replaced (we paid for two sides, the front being brick). Since one of the window screens was damaged in the blast, we asked him to fix four more which had previously been torn in a hail storm. He charged a reasonable fee for this. Next, he and his crew did plaster work around the damaged window then painted the living room. After the window came in, he installed it, going the extra mile to install a replaced window blind. Steve and his crew also put up curtains for us and moved the furniture. Tiles needed to be replaced underneath the bathroom window. Luckily, we had tiles and grout that matched and they both did a very good job of installation. Since he was doing work for us anyway, we asked him to install an exhaust fan in the bathroom. Steve and crew did an excellent job. We were very pleased and plan to call him again soon.

I purchased the big deal. After discussing my "to do" list with Steve he suggested he bring his assistant which would cut the time of the deal in half but felt they could get everything accomplished. They were able to complete the list within the allotted time. There was no wasted time - they got to work immediately. They did a nice job of cleanup afterwards .I am pleased with the work and would use him again. Communication from initial contact to job completion great.

I had no idea what the job involved since the rollers could not be seen without removing the doors. The door hardware was probably 50 years old and of unknown brand. Steven came out with help as scheduled and removed one door to examine the hardware. He removed the rollers and secured the door safely and said he would have to try to find replacements. Christmas vacation fell in the middle of the process and by the time he finally located hardware we had left for Florida. When we returned I called Steve and he arranged to come out within 2 days. He showed up as promised installed the hardware and remounted and adjusted the doors. He also replaced a halogen bulb in an exterior spotlight without additional charge. I was very pleased with the outcome particularly since I thought it might not be possible to locate suitable replacement hardware on doors this old. Replacing the doors, if possible would have cost over $5000.

He installed two ceiling lights, one with a fan that work great. My husband was in the hospital and I wanted this work done before he came home. This was on short notice and Steve made sure the work was completed in plenty of time before Dick came home. Whenever I have projects around the house/garage, Steve does the work. I have never been disappointed. He's clean, efficient and trustworthy. I recommend his work and abilities highly.

Steven showed up around 10AM, was very professional and clean. He was done with the job by noon and cleaned up his mess and showed me how everything worked.

They were prompt and cleaned up well. They did a fine job.

Very well. I only had minor picture hanging and a shower head installed. He also repaired my constantly running toilets. I am very grateful for his completed work on the toilets. There was a slight residual problem that resulted from packaging from the parts either being flushed into the toilet or not fully removed. However once discovered is was easily resolved. Overall, it was a good experience and I totally recommend his services.

We contacted Steve Schaefer for an estimate for some minor household repairs and a larger project, and we liked him very much. He seemed knowledgeable and had good ideas, and said he'd get right back with us with estimates. Time passed, no contact. We sent an email, and also put a note on the Angie's list 'send a note' page. Eventually he sent a quick note that some family issues had come up and he'd get back with us. We understood that, and though he didn't seem able to tell us approximately how long it would be (days, months?), we waited for a month or so. We then noticed on Angie's list that other people had filed reports on his work recently (they liked his work), so we called his number again. We asked him to please either get with us to do the work, or at least tell us if he was too booked up and unable to take on anything else. Nothing. Nobody likes being ignored--at least give your potential customers a polite brush-off if you aren't interested in the job!

I am always impressed with the attention to detail and above and beyond service. I am so pleased I found this company on Angie's List and HIGHLY recommend them to friends and family. I will definitely be using Schaefer Improvements for my roof repairs/ replacement.

Work was done quickly and he was neat and clean.
