Schaefer Improvements

They couldn't have done better. They showed up on time, worked hard, were polite, cleaned up and charged a fair price.

The two repairmen were very knowledgeable and understood exactly what I needed done. They set to work on separate tasks and finished within a couple of hours. They even bagged several trash bags full of leaves and pieces of shingle that had washed into the gutters. I really appreciated their repairing the gutters that needed some work and adding hardware to complete the job. Very efficient and well worth the investment!

This job went very well. After my call, Steve made an appointment to see what needed to be done. He took care of every detail and kept in touch. The shutters were installed on the date promised.

We have been talking about it but I think my wife's going to figure it out here in the next month.

2 or 3 days later I received a call back letting me know I would receive another call to schedule the appointment. We agreed on a date and they never showed up, never called, and never made an attempt to do anything after the first couple of phone calls.

They replaced weather stripping on two of our doors. Also, they built a really nice cover for our crawl space. They replaced an old light fixture with a new one that we bought. They were here about 3 hours. They picked up and put everything away and did a good job. They were punctual and if I remember right they were a little early. The staff was very courteous.

Schaefer Improvements did the actual work okay, but professionalism suffered because we bought a Big Deal. Examples: 1. Schaefer Improvements measured the porch for materials. When Steve went to purchase materials, he said he wasn't charging us for his trip to the hardware store as a "favor" even though we bought the BIg Deal. 2. We were charged $25 for removal of old materials "because we bought the Big Deal." 3. The exterior of the porch had to be repainted before gutters could be reinstalled. When I called Steve to tell him he could come and put the gutters back up, he said he didn't know if he had told us but there would be a $25 charge to put the gutters back up because he needed to cover the cost of the trip since we bought the Big Deal. If a provider doesn't want to participate in Big Deals, they should not participate.

We had some issues communicating. We set up an appointment today. They called and said they were not going to show up and to find someone else.

We are very pleased with his work. He did everything with quality and quickness. We probably needed more items to keep him busy.

We are always happy with the work from Schaefer Improvements. We have called them out several times over the past year and will continue to do so. It is hard to find a company that is consistent. I have referred them to family and friends as much as possible! Thanks again Steve!

They were polite, considerate and worked very efficiently! Best $200 we've spent in a good while. We would definitely consider them for any type of home repair/home remodeling project.

I had purchased two of Angie's Big Deals for a total of 8 hours of work. Two nice young men came out for 4 hours on Saturday morning. I had intended to have the supplies they needed before they arrived, but life had gotten in the way and I needed them to do the "shopping." I was told I would have to pay for the supplies and also an up-charge for this service which I was perfectly happy to do. As it turned out, they looked at the situation, I told them what I thought I wanted, and what I wanted the end result to be. They did some measuring and asked me a few questions, then they took off. If I had done the shopping, I would have gotten the wrong things. They knew what to get to achieve my goal. They were both very friendly, very polite. I had started to wonder if this rail was savable. They did a great job. It looks amazing. I am getting ready to move and put this house on the market. They gave me a business card, and I will definitely recommend their services to anyone looking for good work from creative problem-solvers. (By the way, the Big Deals were $99 for 4 hours of labor. Because they had to go shopping for me, there was an up-charge of $25 which was okay. I would have had to pay someone to deliver the goods anyway, and I would not have purchased the right things.)

They called ahead to let me know they were coming, and arrived when they said. They were curtious and friendly. They took care of as many items on our list as they could with the 2 hr time frame we hired them for (deal was for 4hrs, but 2 workers so did work in 2 hrs.) They cleaned up afterword. Price was great but it was an online promotional deal so better value than normal price. Would still use them in the future since it was a good experience.

It all seemed to go very well. The two workers that did most of the work were polite and punctual. The problem stems from the fact that Mr Schaefer for some reason will not return my telephone calls. I have left 5 messages for Mr Schaefer and he is not professional enough to at least return my calls. My concern is that he purchased $340.00 worth of materials on my son-in-law's credit card (I was out of town at the time the work was completed). I am simply asking for a receipt and detail of all the material that was purchased. If he does not have anything to hide, it would seem to be a simple request. However, I have not received any sign of any professionalism from Mr. Schaefer. I would gladly hire the workers who performed the work. I would never work with Mr Schaefer again.

After I contacted Steve, he immediately responded to me for an appraisal on a partial remodel for a small bathroom. After the appraisal and estimate, I asked for a change from a surround wall over a tub to a walk-in shower install. He accommodated my request with a reasonable estimate for the change. He started and finished the job as promised. During the shower install, the shower would not fit and be level in the wall space where the old tub and wall surround was so he installed additional hardwood to attach the shower and ensured the shower was level. He added 1x4 trim around the top and sides of the shower. I had concerns about the trim before he installed it on the sides because the placement of the vanity. After the trim was installed, it was determined the trim would not work because there was not space for the vanity. My husband replaced the original trim with a smaller trim. I did not ask Steve to come back and replace the trim. As agreeded, Steve and his crew came back a week later and installed the shower doors and moved the toilet flange over 2 inches from the wall per my request. Steve was in constant communication with me from start to finish on this job. Steve and his crew were very professional and polite. The job area was cleaned up immediately and left in great condition. Update as of July 8, 2014: On March 21st, I called Steve due to some issues with the plumbing. I had a plumbing company come out to fix the issues and they determined that there was problems with the plumbing due to the work that had been done by Schaefer Improvements. Steve stated that he would refund me $200 for the troubles (even though it cost me $293 to fix). He asked that I text him to remind him and where to send the refund. I text him the reminder on March 22, 2014 at 1:26p. On April 28, 2014 I text him again and he responded stating that he had sent it through Chase. I still haven't received it. I had text him again on May 19, 2014 for the refund and he stated that it was processing. I still have not received anything or heard from Steve.

The guys from Schaefer Improvements found a leak that others were not able to locate. They fixed the leak in a timely manner.

They did a great job. They were on time. They were polite and knock out my list for me.

It went very well. They showed up on time and I would recommend them. I thought the price was pretty good.

This was an Angie's list deal of 4 man-hours of handyman service for $99; I don't know what the acual cost should have been. THey called the night before to confirm the date and time, which I appreciated, and called the next day to say they had finished another job earlier than expected and asked if they could come earlier, wich I was happy to agree to. They were courteous, professional, and efficient, splitting their time individually among the various projects and coming together to help each other when needed. I would definitely hire them again.

Quality of work was below expectations

The quality of the service was excellent, as was the professionalism of the staff. My onlyl disappointment was that I wasn't aware they required a travel charge to my side of town.

I liked all items that were completed by two men in 2 hours: 1) installed 3 ceiling lights; 2) replaced faucet & wall plumbing on laundry tub; 3) made temporary patch to siding hole; 4) removed hose reel screwed into brick wall; 5) fixed shower selector pin; 6) evaluated door handles and determined need to replace; 7) hung large bulletin board; and 8) evaluated temperature controlled roof vent for what size motor need to order. Dustin and Willy were very professional in regard to work and communication. The only reason I evaluated as B in Quality is that they did not have all plumbing needs and siding hole materials on the truck. Mr Schaefer had my list of needs and picture of the hole. I thought they would have been prepared for my needs or told me ahead of time of the materials I would have to go purchase.

I was very satisfied with the work and results.

It went very well. They showed up on time and worked not stop while they were here. The owner, Steve Schaefer, does not usually work Saturdays, but he did in this case. Steve and the two guys he had working for him were friendly and respectful. They had finished with most of what we talked about and had packed up their tools. I noticed a spot, hidden behind a bush, that needed repair. They only had 15 minutes left of the time I had paid for. They got out the tools they needed and went ahead and fixed it, having to stay late to finish it. They all exceeded my expectations. Great work, great service, professional, and friendly. I will definitely use them again and will recommend them to family and friends.
