Schaefer Improvements

All was done on time and done well. What more can one ask?

2 gentleman were able to arrive earlier than the original time scheduled. They worked extremely hard for 1.5 hours, accomplished everything I needed and did an excellent job in doing so. Provided potential options for reinforcement of shelving and the feasibility of each option, letting me make the decision as to how to proceed. Excellent job!

Steve immediately diagnosed the problem. Tried to fix it without cutting into the wall. But had to cut into wall anyway. He offered some lower cost alternatives, but we went with the full fix. The door now works again and all is well.

They were wonderful. I had purchased 6 hours of handyman service and he sent two men that were very nice. They did their thing and did a very nice job. They cleaned up after themselves. I would certainly use them again and I would highly recommend them. Mr. Schaefer was really nice to; I had spoken to him over the phone several times. They were here the 3 hours and did not charge me any extra. I plan on using them again.

Their service turned out pretty well. I am not sure I got my money's worth, as I had to leave before they were standing. They were pretty much within the time frame they said they would be here, but I had this appointment so I had to leave and they were aware of that when I made the appointment. I have screens on my gutters and in one section they said they were worn out and they took that off. I am assuming they cleaned the gutters, I did not actually see that. I wanted them checked before the bad weather because I was having some that where overflowing. They had some time left and so they did some caulking for me and I think that was pretty well done. I only paid the big deal purchase, nothing extra. He did call me right back once I called in. They were professional.

I purchased a Big Deal for 3 hours of work for $99 at the end of October and explained I would like them to re-caulk all the exterior windows on my [two-story] home. Steve brought another worker with him and the two worked very quickly to add caulk where it was needed, and did a great job making it look nice and clean. They were able to complete the job within the time frame allowed by the Big Deal and my only additional expense was the caulk, so for me this was a wonderful deal.

I emailed the company before I purchased this to see if they installed new bath fan and wiring and if it would be a problem and they said no, but now that I purchased it I was told that it was a lot more complicated than expected and there would be a $100 surcharge! This turned into a huge expensive project and decided I cannot do it right now!

I had made a couple phone calls and emails prior to the appointment. He never replied but did show up on time to the appointment. Rather than getting the work half completed, he said he would reschedule the appointment before Thnaksgiving as requested. I have left 2 voicemails and 2 emails with no response. He was very nice and professional.

They worked through a pretty long to do list with time to spare!

I got two men for 2 hours and they never came back. They set up a date but did not show, did not call and have not called. I have called and left messages with no response. Somebody owes me money?

SCHAEFER IMPROVEMENTS worked at our house for three hours, replacing three indoor facets and one outdoor facet. They also did a few other minor repairs. They were very personable and friendly and did a nice job.

Cleaned gutters and replaced trim around several windows (including painting them). It went well.

Mr. Schaefer was on time; he and his assistant tackled the issues and solved them in short order. I am only disappointed that I didn't have more for him to do! Very professional, knowledgeable, and fast. Would highly recommend.......certainly for the issues that I had. That said, I get the feeling that his skills far exceed what he helped me with. Many thanks!

Two men came: Steve and Justin. Steve went right to work on the electrical, while Justin completed the job on straightening and adding knobs to my 3 closet doors upstairs. Then they both went to the kitchen and straightened my cabinet doors there. They were both very friendly and they both completed the work to my satisfaction. It only took about an hour!

Scheduled with Steve for work to be done 10/11. Steve called me the night before (10/10) and said son was sick and had to reschedule and we agreed on 10/17. I had already used one vacation day for previous missed appointment and took off from work again on 10/17 and he did not show. I texted him and left him a voice mail when it was past time for arrival with no luck. Steve did not call and after 3 days I made other arrangements and left him a voice mail cancelling.

The owner and one of his workers arrived when scheduled. First thing the owner said before going upstairs to start the work, when I asked if there was anything he needed from me, was to just sit down and leave the work and worry to him. Easiest thing I ever had to do! Both men took their shoes off while inside, without my even asking--wonderful for my carpets! When carrying things up the stairs, which have a 90-degree bend in them, they were extremely careful, and I didn't have so much as a scratch on my stairwell walls. I had removed everything from a desk and multi-drawer nightstand cabinet so they could move be moved away from the window being replaced more easily, if needed (I wasn't able to pick them up by myself, even with nothing in the drawers). Only one needed to be moved, and the owner, alone, picked up that one and moved it aside like it was a feather. I should have asked him what gym he uses. Working from the inside and (via a ladder) outside simultaneously, they had the job finished in two hours. The window worked fine, looked great from the ground outside and from the inside of the room it was in. They cleaned up inside and out, put the piece of furniture that had been moved back, explained how the window operated and how to wash it, and were just nice as could be. They wouldn't even take refreshments I offered, they were so dedicated. They also brought the extra window into my garage for me, wrapped in a moving blanket, and the owner said that if I ever needed it installed, he'd do it for the same installation fee charged for the window that did get installed--$300. The firm had sent two other employees to my house for a separate job of painting, caulking, and fixing nail pops a month or so earlier (I've already written a separate review on that), which I mention only to say that when the owner called to ask how the men had done, I talked to him about my window woes, to see if he could take care of them. He said that he could, and just needed to find out the cost of the windows from his supplier. He called me back the next day, come over, took measurements (even though an employee from the previous job had kindly taken measurements, the owner personally wanted to confirm them, which I thought was great). He gave me a written estimate, and we established a day and time for the work. The professionalism and caring throughout was exceptional. This is a man who cares about his firm, his workers, and, very importantly to customers, his reputation. He obviously knew what he was doing, I couldn't be more pleased, and I would heartily recommend this man and his wonderful company.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and the service was pretty much average.

Fantastic experience overall. Steve and Dustin both showed up right when they said they would on a Saturday morning. I had hired them initially to help replace a rotted wood deck railing and then help strip away all the peeling paint so that I could paint it myself later after it dried and the weather turned. They completed the work very quickly and cleaned up after themselves. On the way out I had them check out another project I had in mind and they noticed I had a door that needed a quick repair as well as a light fixture I had messed up in trying to install myself some time ago. They went ahead and fixed both of them in no time. I'm considering them for another bathroom remodel job I may end up doing in the future and would offer my highest recommendation for anyone in the future. These guys can seemingly do just about anything and do it professionally and take pride in the quality of their work. Awesome!

He showed up on time. I had requested he put up four fence panels but he said I didn't tell him the fence posts were not already installed so he didn't do that. I, as well, asked him to tear down the shed & haul it off. He completed that within 2 1/2 hours. The remaining 1 1/2 hour he apparently used to take the load to the dump. He charged me an additional $132 to pay for 'dump fees' hauling and some 'truck' charge over and above the Big Deal. I was given a choice of having him to haul away the rest and pay double the fees or I could haul it away myself. His fees were quite equivalent to another I had for hauling away the shed but the competitor would have hauled the whole shed away.

I purchased a "Big Deal" from this company in July 2013. It was for 4 hours of handyman service for $99.00 plus materials. We had originally scheduled service for 10/9/2013, but the day before Steve called to say that he had a conflict. We rescheduled for 10/19/13, but it was raining in the morning. The appointment was rescheduled for 10/21/2013 at 9 to 9:15 am. I missed his phone call in the morning at 8:35 and again at 9:15 as I was expecting him to arrive at 9 to 9:15. Since he was unable to reach me, he went on to another job. I called him at 9:45. He called back at 10:45 to say that he was on his way and would arrive in 40 minutes (which he did). He and his assistant got straight to work and completed to job in one hour after stopping to pick up the required materials. They worked quickly and replaced the wood in a very nice way. I am very pleased with the quality of the work performed. I would consider using Steve again.

I was very pleased how fast and effecient the workers were and they accomplished all my jobs I wanted them to do in a very short amount of time. They did a very good job.

His employees picked up the new toilet we bought at Lowes. They installed it and took away the old one and all the hardware and trash. They installed a light fixture, smoke alarm, range hood, and bathroom faucet. Dustin and Jim were courtious and respectful. This was a great experience and I will defiently use Schaefer Improvements again.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It didn't go very well. Two guys came out and one guy did a good job and he did some of the handyman work throughout. The other guy put in my faucet. I had all the pieces because I'd had somebody look at it. I don't know if he didn't know what he was doing because we kind of got in an argument. It was a back and forth in an email with the owner because they came out and cut off all the copper tubing. He put the faucet in but he cut the copper tubing to the ice maker so I had to have somebody else come and hook up the ice maker. I had all the right pieces and the guy kept telling me it wouldn't work the way I had it. The other person that hooked it up said it was right. I really don't think the guy knew what he was doing. I did get my faucet in but I had to get somebody else to hook up my ice maker. They said the part was wrong and wouldn't seat right so they wouldn't guarantee it. I didn't even have them come back. I purchased the deal in July and they didn't come out until September. I wasn't really happy. I'm not a plumber so I can't say that I am 100% right. One of the guys had a really good attitude. My caregiver was here and she said the other guy was arrogant and didn't want any input or need any input. The owner went with him and then the owner kind of dropped me. The customer service wasn't very good from the owner. I think he should have taken a trip out here to look at it. The price of the deal was good. I don't know what his normal charges were. His trip charge back was $65. They were right on time.

Everything completed on the first visit seemed to be fine except for the toilet. I purchased a universal repair kit ahead of time as they suggested. After they had completed the work, I found that every other time the toilet flushed, it would not flush the paper down. When they came back for the additional work, he did take a look at the toilet and said it was repaired. I later noticed it was still not flushing properly. I had left a message with the owner. He did not call back, but one of his crew members returned my call. He explained that because it is an older toilet, it may not be compatible with the toilet repair kit that was installed. After he had completed the work in the closet, I found that the boards needed to be sanded because the braces could snag the clothing. They also ran out of paint and could not finish painting. I thought they had done a good job, but I did have to go back and touch up the paint where I had to complete the sanding on the support boards. However, the guys did work hard and I appreciated their work. When I first contacted them, I had submitted a proposal by email that provided specifics on my closets from the measurements to what I wanted painted. The owner, Keith Schaefer, wrote back with an estimated cost. When they did come to complete the work, they were unable to complete everything I had asked of them as I had ran out of paint. However, if I had the amount of paint needed for the job, they would have been here until 9pm finishing the work. He explained that he didn?t think the owner looked at my list of jobs accurately and misjudged the amount of time needed to complete what I had requested to have done. Overall, the workmanship of the job was good, but the quality of the toilet repair was not.
