Schaefer Improvements

I contacted Steven Schaefer regarding some structural work and also erecting new drywall and painting. He came to the appointment to review the job and to measure, in order to provide an estimate for the job. Unfortunately, he seemed to drop off the face of the earth after that. I contacted his office approximately five times to follow up and to ask for the job proposal. He seemed like a nice guy when I met him, but lacked the gumption and level of professionalism to get back to me - even if it was to say that he did not want to do the job. In fairness, I waited a few weeks before writing this negative review, to allow him time to respond to me. He never did get back to me. I would not use him in future, and recommend other Angie's List members find an alternative to hiring Schaefer Improvements

Everything turned out okay. He was a very nice guy and was very consistent during our appointment. He was average when it came to scheduling. I thought the work he did was good and it was at a good price. There were some drying stages so he had to come and go during that 2 hours. We tried to have some other work done with him later on and he never chose to respond to us.

He did a marvelous job. He was fast and professional. He is a very talented man.

It went great. We had tried this before ourselves and it was just messy and a hassle because woodworking skills are not our forte'. We called Steve on a chance and he made himself avaiable VERY quickly. We got lucky finding the right person at the right time. We did have a dumpster already becuase we are doing a bathroom renovation ourselves but the doors were just something we were not up to doing. So all of the materials had been purchased and were available when Steve arrived. He put covers over our laminate and hardwood flooring and made sure that he went through with a broom in great detail to make sure there was no left over debris from their work. It was probably cleaner after they left than it had been before they got there. It only took a few hours to demo and set both of these doors for us and he apoligized becuase his helper had to make a run to the store for an air compressor part. That took an extra 30 minutes and he was sorry for that. We have 13 more doors to do in our house and you better believe we will be calling Steve again to do them. GREAT JOB!!!!!! I know he said he does more than just this type of work also. If you are interested in great quality and craftmanship for any job give him a call and he will tell you if it is something he can do. He is not high pressure and will get it done right.

Replaced tall power-flush toilet in my cream colored masterbath. Insisted he had to put in a white one and said that everyone was going to white. My bathrooms are both cream or beige and I replaced the second one by going to Home Depot and finding an even taller Kohler in the light cream color. I totally dislike the white toilet, dislike the American Standard brand, and don't trust the power-flush mechanism for long term due to his attempts to adjust it three times. I think I should have a whole new mechanism installed in the back. He does not listen to his customer and told me I should decorate with white and is too pushy for me to ever call again. I now have two new toilets and much prefer the one I picked out myself. It is taller, flushes very nicely, and the installation price was much more reasonable. It matches my bath and ceramic floors.

They came out to see the project, advised estimated material cost and overall job cost beyond the Big Deal price which was more than reasonable, arranged material pick up and scheduled a job date. They arrived on time as promised and did the job they were hired to do. Their professionalism, knowledge and ability did not go unnoticed. Excellent work! I absolutely will hire them again... in fact, I'm already compiling my list for Spring!

It went well. We are waiting to get rid of the snow to finish the project but they have done a great job.

Placed two exterior GFI outlets, reconnected a dryer vent in the crawl space, replaced two electrical box covers, one in the attic and one in the crawl. I was told to expect them between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. At almost 9:00 a.m. I received a call saying they were running late and would be there closer to 10:00 a.m. (It was the day after Christmas so I was understanding), however when they did come it was obvious they were in a hurry and had other jobs scheduled. They needed additional items to reconnect the dryer vent and originally wanted to come back another day. I reminding the contractor we were closing on the sale of our house the next day (which I shared when I scheduled the repairs to begin with) and therefore could not reschedule. I understood that I had paid for a total of 4 hours of handyman service with the "Big Deal" - two guys for two hours each. When they realized they needed more materials for the dryer vent they had been at my home for approximately 45 minutes. They then needed an additional $50 to go and get the dryer supplies and return to fix the vent. I don't see how I ever received my 4 hours of service. There were two guys and even with the time they spent going to get the additional supplies I received two guys for a total of 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hours of service. I do not feel I received what I paid for and will probably not respond to any more "big deals".

Applied mosaic tiles around tub surround. Deal was $99 for 2 hours of labor. Sent 2 guys and 10 minutes before the end of time told me it would be an additional charge to complete the job. Of course I was going to pay it because the job was only half done. At the same time, the laborers were not skilled enough to handle some of the tricky parts of the installation. | |I had to contact Schaefer's to get on their schedule as nobody called me after I purchased the deal. They explained that they had been very busy and apologized for not getting back to me. | |Problem might have existed with any installer but not being a professional I expected more from those that do this type of work for a living.

They replaced the wood trim around 2 second story windows.

Installed bicycle hoist and peg board in garage and in master bathroom hung 2 mirrored medicine cabinets, replaced towel ring and toilet paper holder, repaired a loose commode seat and put in new outlet under sink. |Steve was very enthusiastic & friendly. I asked him about a future remodeling job that I will probably use him for. We had an appointment for one morning after his 7:30 dentist appointment and had to reschedule for the next day. He was right on time for the rescheduled appointment.

I scheduled the service over the phone with Steve Schaefer. I bought the deal in October, but was not ready to go until November, when I had purchased all of the supplies needed. I scheduled him to show up with another handyman on Dec. 4.

He called and set appt. time called and said they had a bigger job to finish first and he would have to cancel my appt. and that he would call and reschedule with me. After numerous calls to him I never heard from him again. I would like a refund for this job.

It was easy to schedule an appointment and they got back to me quickly. They were great! Steven, the owner, came for the work with one other crew member. They showed up when they said that they would and did a good job.

They did a really great job and I would recommend them to anyone.

They replaced 6 electrical outlets, 3 ceiling lights, attic and outdoor lights. Also fixed a threshold and recaulked bathroom. Everything was done well and efficiently.

Original appointment was scheduled for November 19th. They called November 18th at 8 pm asking to reschedule. I told them it must be done before Thanksgiving. They rescheduled another client to fit me in on November 27th between 8 am and 9 am. They never showed up on November 27th. I left a message at 10 am and another message at 11 am. They did not respond. I left a message on December 3rd to reschedule and they did not respond. I cancelled the service through Angie's List on December 6th.

Only communicated by phone. Two dates scheduled, No call/ No show. No apology by them the second time.

Steve Schaefer did not call to schedule apt with me, he can still call my cell in Fla, 941-920-1239, I want to set a time for April when I come back to Indy, I really need him to call me, my landline is 941-756-4487 and leave a message also. I am very disappointed in the service that I already paid for. By the way, my daughters name is Angie, that's one of the reasons I joined your group. Marilyn Beck. ,

But when trying to contact them after to come back and do some more, they didn't return any of our calls. we purchased a deal for 3 man hours and they were only here for 1 hr with two guys, so I didn't feel we got our full deal redeemed. If they would have come back, we needed about 3 more hours, so one from old deal and then just what ever they would charge above that.

His work was excellent,that alone would make him number one. But let me explain what happened next, we paid in full and was very pleased I filed my bill with our trust fund and the mis-undersrood and sent the check to Schaefer's and he cashed the check when called him he wanted different proofs as I tried to resolved the matter he never seemed interested to pay us. Arrived on time. Got right to work. Had other work ready if they finished with time still left over. actually ran over time a little but said ok no additional charges.

Steve was very quick to call to set up appt & returned my calls promptly. He was courteous & very flexible to work around my schedule. He was prompt (called before arrived), efficient & extremely knowledgeable. He deduced problem immediately & worked to solve to my satisfaction. He gave me estimate on a future project & I plan to call him after first of year. Very happy with Steve's service!

We were completely satisfied with Steve's professionalism and service. He was prompt, wasted no time, and did the jobs to our complete satisfaction. There was a problem with gutters that were poorly installed by another company after hail damage a few years ago. Steve found the problem when cleaning out the gutters for us and was able to get the problem taken care of quickly and well. No problems with the leakage and spilling of water we experiences before. I would recommend Steve and his employees without reservation.
