Our house sits back about 30 feet from a hill that drops 40 to 50 feet down. The tree sits on the hill about 10 feet from the retaining wall. No way to use a truck with a bucket lift. The space they had to work in was very narrow. Next to the retaining wall is a brick walk and then our deck. The limb was a very large one. It was removed without any property damage. The cleanup was exellent. I am using them for a couple of other projects later this year.
Description of Work: cut limb from a tree that was hanging over the deck.

Average at best. The real corker was this....we told them about a psycho neighbor and his obsession with property lines yet they went a foot over and trimmed a rotten branch which had carpenter ants pouring out. The psycho neighbor threatens to sue Pings so they trimmed all of HIS trees which he had never spent a cent on in the 25 years we have lived here. We aren't sure if it was done free but higly suspect it was as the neighbor has never put a dime into his home. We save our money to pay them for an average job and he gets the golden egg for threatening. We never complained about the trashed pine or lousy looking trim job and the psycho wins. Done with Pings. 6/2514. And here we are not even one year later and we have to have the tree redone because of their lousy effort the first time. I will never recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: On two different dates we used Ping. One was to trim a tree up and the second was to trim up the same tree which had storm damage. The first time they did an average job but damaged a small pine by dropping tree limbs on it. Lopped the top of a small pine off. Just recently had them back to trim the same tree which was damaged in a June storm. Guess they did the best they could but the tree looks like h***. Expected more from them..

We've used them twice. They came in April 20th and then I had them come back and do some more work on July 27th and I paid them $836. Overall I would give them an 'A' however they weren't really responsive or punctual.

Pings Tree Service has more positive reviews that any other Tree Service and is an Angie's List Super Service Award Winner for a multitude of reasons! 1) Extraordinary Customer Service: We live in an era where customer service and quality assurance take a back seat to the services being performed. In this economy many services providers simply focus on getting the work done and getting it done quick. Many companies can simply complete a job. Ping's treats each and every job as an opportunity to earn a life long customer. From estimate to job completion, Ping's Tree Service is rooted in customer service, satisfaction, and education. 2) Extraordinary Services Offered: Ping's is not a fly by night operation. They are Certified Arborists devoted to their craft. Every crew member was well educated on their work philosophy and offered congruent job insight. They operate within the boundaries of what is best for your tree. Ping's will not perform work to your tree that will shock, damage, or weaken it. They offered me variety of options to complete what I wanted done. They catered to my needs and educated me as to what was best for my tree. 3) Extraordinary Value: I had over 7 estimates completed for this job. Despite clearly capturing most of the Indianapolis and surrounding area Angie's List Business, Ping's offered the best price to me by 30% on average. I was hesitant to contact them when looking for tree work because of the size and volume of their operation. I assumed that they would cost more because they offer a well documented superior product than anyone else on the market. I was extremely surpirsed to learn that their superior product comes at a superior value. The Details: What I Wanted: I have an extremely large Silver Maple in my back yard that was severely "topped" (Butchered) about 10 years ago before I moved in to the home. This created many weak points where the limbs grew back and large limbs were starting to break off of the tree on average of once a summer. The tree had become a danger to mine and my neighbors property. I put this job off as long as possible because I hate the look of trees that have been chopped or topped and loved the shade that this tree provided to my yard. I made it very clear that this was not the type of service I was looking for and I wanted my tree to maintain a natural appearance even after the work was completed. Initial Contact/Estimate: I contacted Ping's through the Angie's List email link on their profile. They contacted me the next day. The contact was polite and professional. Ping's clearly articulated the time frame in which they would complete the estimate for me. Upon estimate completion Ping's emailed me a professional estimate with a breakdown of services offered. On my estimate they suggested pruning the sides of the tree 6'-8', thinning the entire crown to eliminate wind sail, and attaching a cable system to the main limbs of the tree to provide support to its weakened joints. The estimate was more than competitive and was on average 30% better priced than the other estimates that I received for less work. (Other estimates were for pruning only.) I budgeted slightly less for the project and was only willing to complete 2 of 3 of the options on the estimate. Ping's professionally articulated the merit of the three items on the original estimate but worked with me to decide which two of the three items would ultimately protect my property and be best for the tree. Ping's never made me feel inadequate for not accepting all of the work they suggested. They never tried to sell me on the additional labor. I was impressed by their willingness to work with my budget and valued their assistance in selecting the options that would make the most impact. After we agreed on the work to be completed it was clearly explained to me that it was their busy season and they were booked a little further out than normal. It was also clearly and reasonably explained to me that emergency work where a tree was on a house, car, power line, etc. would take priority over my maintenance work. I was happy with the 2-3 week time frame given because they articulated the terms and managed my expectations appropriately. When setting my expectations I was notified that if there was an opening they would work me in sooner. Every company says this but rarely do you hear back sooner. Ping's called back to work me in about a week later. The Work: As promised, Ping's called the day before the work was to be completed to remind me of the appointment. On the day of the service they arrived on time. Prior to starting the work, the job foreman did a walk around the tree with me to make certain that the work scheduled on the estimate would best serve my wishes. The Foreman did a good job educating me as to why the options we selected were the best options for my tree and the protection of my property. He took care to make careful examples of other trees in my neighborhood in reference to the type of work they were to complete for me. Prior to commencing work I never feared for the outcome of the job or how it would look because careful time was spent educating me as to what the tree would look like when the work was completed. Every member of the crew was clean cut and in work supplied clothing. I had personal interaction with every member of the crew on my property and was pleasantly surprised by their willingness to carry on a conversation with me. You will not be intimidated or scared to have any crew member from Ping's on your property. Because my work was to be completed in my back yard Ping's utilized a specialized piece of equipment called a "back yard bucket". This was a small bucket crane apparatus that fit in to tight spaces and minimized the risk of damage to my grass, fence, etc. Many smaller fly by night operations will not have access to this type of equipment. I was impressed by the range of machines that Ping's has at their disposal in order to take care of my property while completing the work. In order to protect my grass Ping's covered it with plywood when driving the backyard bucket in to my yard and each time the machine was positioned. The crew was a well-oiled machine and no one was ever caught standing around. Each member of the crew worked very hard to complete the job in a timely fashion. Upon job completion the foreman met with me to let me know that they were done. They did an extremely thorough clean up of the job site and my yard was cleaner after they finished than it has ever been. They performed the work agreed upon in the estimate to such a high degree that my neighbor could not tell that the tree had been cut on despite being visually smaller and thinned. This is exactly what I wanted. I did not want the tree to appear butchered. After the Work: We did not do a final walk around of the tree after the work was completed. After they left I noticed that a few of the limbs that I thought would be trimmed were not. I contacted Ping's and let them know that I was extremely happy with all of the work completed with the exception of a few branches that I thought would be trimmed. Ping's sent a supervisor to my property with expedience. The supervisor handled the situation very delicately and always made me feel that I was right. He carefully educated me as to what was actually completed. It became clear to me that all of the work on the estimate was completed. Although the work on the estimate was clearly completed, Ping's offered to do more work for me to ensure my happiness on their dime. While the additional service was offered to me at no charge I did not want to take advantage of the situation because it was clear that the additional limbs I wanted cut were not a part of the initial estimate. Ping's agreed to only charge me for the labor of his team and completed the additional work for me a couple days later.

I had contacted them before and they let me know they were a little busy, but they'd be able to do the work around 3-4 weeks out. I called them back at the end of the 4 weeks and they scheduled to come out the next day. It was a difficult job, as the one larger tree was 50 years old and the other around 30 years old. The larger tree was in an area next to the house, electric wires, shed, and fence. They ground both of the stumps, and I'm satisfied with the work they did.

Our tree had a fungus, so the spray didn't really do what we needed it to do for our apples. They should have caught it on the first two visits, but didn't. Now we can not eat the apples unless we skin them. It was too late in the year by the time they came to prevent the fungus. At this point, they have sprayed to prevent insects and next year they are going to come out and spray for the fungus free of charge before the apples bloom.

I asked them when they would be out and the representative said, “it’s a free service” and came out to my home while we were sleeping. I asked for an estimate on a pine & maple tree. They gave the estimate for the pine tree but instead of giving one for the maple, they did one for my red bush tree. Their estimate was quite a bit higher than who we ended up going with for the work.

I would like to comment on my previous review of Ping Tree Service. I had a complaint with how things were handled and received a personal and unexpected call from management. I received an apology for the mistake and felt it was handled in the most professional manner. Mistakes are made and I understand that. I just want you to know that Ping Tree service did a quality job on the tree trimming and I would recommend them. If they make a mistake, I can assure you they make it right and go above and beyond to satisfy the customer.

Jeff came out on June 19th and gave me an estimate to remove 3 shrubs. I thought the price was a little high but since they got good marks on Angie's List I decided to go with them rather than getting other estimates. Jeff told me that someone would be out in two weeks to do the work. On July 16th, 4 weeks later, the shrubs were still there. I sent an e-mail that morning and got a call that afternoon saying they would be out the next morning around 10 and that I didn't need to be home for this. The crew that cut down the shrubs arrived at 9:40 and they were very professional. They told me the grinding crew would be back later to finish the job. The crew showed up mid afternoon and asked me to show them where the stumps were as they didn't have a work order. Two problems here: what were they going to do if I hadn't been home and also I detected an attitude as if they had been pulled away from something else to do this job. Later that day when we were cleaning up the debris we discovered the driveway had been damaged by the auger. This was not a tight spot and there was no reason for them to be that close to the drive. I stewed about this for a few days and then sent sent in payment minus $30, what I decided it would cost for me to repair the damage. I sent an e-mail explaining all this but didn't get any calls from that. I got a call asking about the invoice and my note on it about the damage. They agreed to the $30 deduction. Now 2 weeks later I happened to be outside when the irrigation was running in that area and discovered that water was gushing out of the hole in the area where they damaged the driveway. So now I have to pay for someone to fix the line they damaged and I am waiting to see what my water bill is going to look like. I guess I should be happy it wasn't the gas line since they didn't send out the crews who mark the utilities before doing the work.

Response from SavATree Indianapolis
Dear (member name removed): I am writing to you in regards to the damage that occurred at your home by one of our stump crews. First and foremost, as our valued customer, we want to extend our apologies for the damage to your driveway. It is a company policy that employees report any damages to a client’s property posthaste. In the event that damages are not reported by an employee we initiate disciplinary actions that vary from a verbal warning up, and to, termination. In this particular incident the employee was questioned by Phil Ping, the owner. I, too, spoke with him, and he remains adamant that he was unaware of the damage that was caused by the grinder wheel. In our opinion this is impossible. Based on my onsite inspection the grinding wheel hit the driveway. This employee was given a 3 day suspension. We do contact 811 on a daily basis to mark utilities. But they cannot determine where sprinkler heads, and systems, are installed. In searching our database for the recorded communications from you, in regards to the damages, I was only able to locate the one email where you deducted the $30.00 for the concrete repair. This was dated July 26th. This e-mail was immediately forwarded, by Jasmine, to Phil Ping, And upper management. It is my understanding that Jasmine called you back voicing her concern, and agreeing to your resolution after speaking with Mr. Ping about the matter. Customer satisfaction is our highest priority here at Ping’s. Had we been made aware of the damage to the sprinkler system, we would have addressed it expediently. Mr. Ping was disappointed that we were not given that opportunity before you posted your review. After speaking to you, and assuring you that we would compensate you for the damages to the sprinkler system, and coming to your home for more photos of the damaged driveway, for our own internal investigation, we are hopeful that you will give us the opportunity to work for you in the future. If you have any further concerns please feel free to contact us directly. You have the names of our upper management team, as well as Phil Ping, the owner. Regards, Tim Ping Ping’s Tree Service, Inc.

I've used them several times. Their price was always very good. They don't obviously require somebody to be home to get trees down. They've always done a very nice job of cleaning up afterwards. Larry Thomas was punctual & couteous, but I was not confident in his knowledge about removing my two living ash trees, since, so I understand, he's not an arborist. Larry tied a red ribbon around each of our three ash trees, two of which are still living. He said they all needed to be removed. I was not in agreement of his decision. However, he respected my decision and gave me a price to remove one ash tree, the cost of wood removal, and the cost to remove the two remaining ash trees, if I changed my mind. His price to remove one ash tree was reasonable, but there was an additional charge to remove the wood ($75.00). However, he does give a 5% discount to Angies List customers, which brought the total cost to the amount I've listed above, a reasonable amount. He gave the free estimate on Friday, and his detailed estimate was emailed to me on Monday. Very efficient. I think his prices were reasonable. However, I've chosen another tree company, who I've used in the past, that does not charge extra to remove the wood.
Description of Work: Larry Thomas came out to give me a free estimate on the removal of our one dead ash tree, on the day he said he would arrive.

There was a little confusion in their arrival time but they arrived on the day promised and completed the work required. We have a difficult yard to access because of all the trees and bushes. They were able to get their truck in close enough to do some of the work and when the truck was unable to reach one of the workers scaled the tree and removed the branches. It was unbelievable to watch him climb and work. I had to turn away for fear he would fall. I have many flower beds under and near the trees and they were very careful when dropping the limbs. We hired them to work by the hour with a 2 hour minimum and they made sure I was aware of the 2 hour mark. They cleaned up the yard better than it was before they arrived. They were all three extremely hard workers, never wasting any time. I would definitely hire them again.

An arborist with Ping's came out and took copious notes about how I wanted my trees trimmed. He offered professional advice on what should and shouldn't be done and where on the limbs to cut. A few weeks later I was called with a date the work would be done. Kevin and his crew called just before arrival to say they were on the way. He followed the notes of the arborist and consulted me often about how I thought the job was progressing. The entire crew was professional, polite, and efficient. They raked the yard and cleaned up beautifully. The crew went above and beyond the call of duty. I couldn't have been more pleased. All in all they trimmed 3 large maples, a pear, a large tulip, and a big weedy old mulberry on my creek bank that holds the bank soil in place. .The old mulberry looks positively elegant!

The estimator/arborist came out promptly and consulted on the two sick trees and examined the other jobs we wanted done. He e-mailed an estimate which included many options (remove/not remove trees, etc.) with itemized costs. I e-mailed my approval and they said they would be able to do the job within a week or so. It was less than a week, and they came out on time with a large crew and plenty of equipment and did the work safely, completely and efficiently over a 4 hour span. The only problem (and this why the "B" for professionalism) was that they ripped out my overhead Comcast cable from the house and several poles with their bucket truck. They were very very apologetic, and one of the guys managed to get the cable reattached to the house and working (thank goodness for that - Comcast wouldn't come out until the next week, as usual) so I did not lose TV or internet service for very long. The cable is still laying on the ground however so Comcast will have to remount it to the poles.
Description of Work: Removed a downed tree, removed large number of downed branches we had collected near the lot line, and trimmed two 70+ foot tall trees which are on their way to dying (we will have them removed within a year or two when they actually die but did not want to spend the money now).
