Over my long life I've lived in 9 different houses and had a lot of tree work done. I can honestly say this is the best experience I've ever had...and the price was just as competitive as a bid I received from a much smaller and less equipped company. I had heard that Ping's might be a little on the expensive side - and that's not the case. The process was seamless, beginning with the estimator who arrived on time and really knew his trees. The carefully itemized estimate was delivered via email within a couple of days. About 10 days later the first crew of 3 arrived to take out the tree and do all the trimming. They were extremely careful with their work and especially when they had to haul out some large braches from the back yard through my narrow, landscaped side yard. When they finished the lawn and the curbside gutters were cleaner than before they arrived. My experience a week later with the two-man stump grinding crew was similar. I watched as they carefully put down plywood panels to protect the lawn from damage by the heavy machine. They unfolded a flexible screen around the site to prevent chips from flying into the yard. They cleaned up everywhere and even took a rake to fluff-up the grass after removing the plywood. To top it off, a few days later I received a call from their office, before billing me, to make sure I was satisfied with the work!!! If every service provider was this good, life would be so much easier. I can readily see why Ping's keeps winning the super service award.
Description of Work: Removed a 15' tall old redbud tree, ground out the stump, limbed-up two trees, and artfully trimmed and shaped three others. Also removed all the mess.

I was happy with them. I went with them because of reputation, and because the trees that I was taking down, were very close to my house, and I just felt that they were taken care of. A limb did fall on the neighbor's fence, and they were extremely quick in repairing that. The overall quality of work was great. They came when they said they were coming, they answered any question that I had, they cleaned up. They used big equipment, and they used ply wood on the yard, so I didn't have huge gaping holes. There were a few places where the sod was a little messed, but come spring time, we are hoping grass will grow over it. I am happy with their work. I will use them again, because I have talked to them about some winter work.
Description of Work: They took down two trees for me in September. They took down two trees, and removed the wood. They took the stumps out and in the back yard, they shaped and put rods and cables in one tree.

Ping's did a very professional job! They showed up and had the whole tree down, chipped up, and raked the yard of any leaves and sawdust in less than a half hour. The stump grinder crew came back within two days and ground up the stump to below the ground level. I am very pleased with the service and their professionalism. Thank you.

Arborist came immediately after contacting company-surveyed the work--made suggestions. In a day or 2, estimate of cost for work was emailed with price for different options. Emailed the the company with our preference and was told they would put us on the schedule. Workers arrived and explained exactly what they were going to do and had additional suggestions. They efficiently completed their work and cleaned up the areas where they worked. When weather permitted, the stump was ground and the area left very neat and clean. Our trees look so much better. These men are true professionals. We would definitely recommend them and use them again. Received a 5% discount for using Angies list.

I called Ping's on 08/19 requesting an estimate to treat a River Birch with insect infestation and to prune my neighbor's Maple tree from over my house. I had catepillars eating the leaves from the River Birch, as well as some insects mining in a wound in the trunk of the tree. Ping's investigated the problem while I wasn't home and e-mailed me an estimate on 08/21 which I needed to approve in part or in whole. I approved all parts of the estimate which included pruning my neighbor's Maple tree ($239.00), and treating my River Birch tree with a foliar application ($125.00), soil amendments ($120.00), and trunk injections ($100.00). Ping's responded that the approval was received and it could take 3 or 4 weeks for most of the work to be done but the feeding insects had to be treated immediately. Ping's did the foliar application on 08/25, the soil amendments and trunk injections on 10/02, and the tree pruning on 10/15. Ping's sent me 3 seperate invoices after each service was rendered. Ping's did most of the work when I was not home, I had authorized them to do the work at their convenience. I was home on 10/15 for the pruning, which may have been fortunate because they needed to figure out how to get their large equipment into my back yard. This was not a problem because I had a gate they could enter. All debris from the pruning was removed. I am very pleased with their work.

I asked for an arborist to come and advise me on whether my trees needed to be removed and if they posed a danger to my home. Mike Webster came and spent several minutes evaluating several large, mature trees in the small woods behind my home. Between his recommendations and my wishes we arrived at a plan, and he promptly sent an estimate via email. Because I had Ping's do the work, they waived the $75 charge for his services. When the work was performed, the workers were very professional and polite. They worked quickly and efficiently, and finished this big job in just a few hours. The office staff were also professional and helpful. The only downside was that they estimated they could do the work in 3-4 weeks after the estimate, but it actually was 6 weeks after. They explained that the delay was due to the weather and the high number of jobs resulting from the ash borer problem and the harsh winter, along with several rainy days. I did have to contact them after 5 weeks to ask why the work hadn't been done. I have used Ping's several times before and have always been satisfied.

I had requested that someone come out and do an estimate on trimming the trees away from my house. The estimator was right on time and provided a decent price. I authorized him to proceed with trimming of the trees immediately. He said it would be 2-3 weeks but they would do it once they provided an email quote to me. I should have sensed an issue when I never received a formal quote. I contacted the sales rep and he confirmed it was done. I also received a call from their office person saying the quote was confirmed but that she did not represent the scheduler. That was over a month ago. Since then no one has called or emailed me to arrange the work to be done. I sent them yet another email to arrange the work. No response. Apparently they have too much business as my small job was not important enough. Perhaps after this review they will have more time on their hands... Update: Ping's called me immediately after this review. They promised to complete the work the next day and they did. They did an excellent job and did exactly what I needed. Only one issue is that they broke a window which they were very apologetic for. They called me immediately and arranged for someone to cover the window right away. By the time I got home 20 minutes later they had a window man there measuring the window for replacement. As I told the guys, problems happen, it all comes down to how you respond to it. They did an excellent job fixing the situation and were very responsive. Only wish they had followed up on my quote quicker or I would have given them a higher score. All in all I think they did a good job, just one slip up by not responding right away but other than that they did great.

In 2012 I had Ping remove several trees. Their work was incredible to watch. Surgical precision as they dismantled the trees with excellent care given to my property. When they were finished... you could only tell they'd been there because the trees were gone. I bragged to every friend and neighbor about the excellence of Ping. I told everyone who mentioned tree work to be sure they called Ping. I did not bother me one little bit to pay their bill after seeing how well they took care of me. (2014) Naturally, when I suffered major loss of trees due to the Emerald Ash Borer, I called Ping. The Estimate for the work I needed was astronomical. But this is Ping! Remember how they treated you before? No one else can do this job right. So, I hired Ping expecting the same service I received in 2012. The Ping of 2012 is not the Ping of 2014. Here's what I recommend. When hiring a company to do tree work at your property... whether it's removal, trimming, whatever, be sure to ask every question you can imagine and be sure to include these! How much damage will be done to my lawn in the completion of your work? How much damage will be done to my neighbor's lawn in the completion of your work? How much recovery time will my property need after you've left for good? Are you going to dismantle the trees you're removing lowering them gently to the ground, like you've done before, or allow entire trees fall and reshape my yard? Are you going to come back and defend me when the neighbors attack? Will the verbal promises of the estimators make it trough to the actual work crew? Will you remove about half the wood, then stop, and remove the rest as soon as the lawn under the wood piles is dead? Can you please avoid telling me you had equipment troubles earlier in the week when you were here earlier in the week using the equipment? And... if you're going to tell me you didn't show up because of somebody else's storm damage... make sure there was a storm? If you like the answers you receive to these questions, and other questions you've added to this list, be sure those answers appear in writing before you sign anything. It's possible, if you're loosing 95% of your trees to the Ash Borer, they may anticipate no repeat business from you... and a reduction of interest in customer satisfaction. The last time I looked, Ping had 84% "A" on Angie's List. So, 84% of you may believe I am being too harsh on them. I believe I am being generous to give them a B overall. If "C" is Average, than a "B" is above average. I still consider Ping to be the best, but yikes! What does that say about the rest of this industry? Who am I going to call next time I need tree work? Now, when I walk through my yard I have to be really careful not to let my ankle twist in the holes and ruts left behind. I will be able to use up to half of the grindings left behind to gradually fill in the ruts and holes, as the grindings are a 60/40 mix of wood shavings and dirt. (It is not mulch, as the estimates tend to describe it. If you landscaper brought you a load of wood shavings and told you it was mulch... you wouldn't be very happy with them.) The Invoices arrived faster than email replies. And, I did get a phone call from one of the good guys "G" at Ping asking me how the job went. (I'm pretty sure he had read or heard about my emails.) I described the difference between the 2012 Ping and the 2014 Ping. He listened and was polite about it. I mentioned a tree I was told would be 'dead wooded' , and was not, as well as some of the remaining Ash trees with 'suckers' all over them. He told me he would get that dead wood taken care of and that I should not remove the suckers on the Ash tree. (This is tiring because every tree man I ask gives me a different answer. I think I will have to remove some of them because they look like h***. And, right now the majority of opinions lean toward cleaning them off so more of the tree's energy heads for the top... which makes sense.) I mentioned we had totally missed one Ash Tree neither treating it or cutting it. It is in good condition right now, so I'd like to treat it! He told me he would call "tomorrow" and would refer my Ash tree question to "J" who would call me. Still waiting... almost a month later. Funny thing is: I still believe "G" will get this done, and I will still hear from "J". Therefore, I haven't learned much. Just be sure everything you've asked for is on the Proposal before you sign it, and maybe get a commitment on start time and end time. I wish Angie's List had some "Maybe" choices rather than Yes and No, when it comes to using a provider in the future. I would use Ping again... but I would be much more careful next time. If this review makes them angry, they may refuse to assist me in the future as well. *UPDATE* Almost two months later and no call from "G" or from "J". I was wrong about them, or have offended Ping by describing my experience.

A PING salesperson lied to me in order to secure the work agreement. I held up my end of the agreement (paid in full) but THEY DID NOT complete the work they explicitly told me on the phone they would complete. I agreed to the "emergency service" and "emergency rates" with the UNDERSTANDING that I would receive TWO FULL HOURS of work related NOT ONLY to the damaged tree but for other dead limbs on the affected tree AND other trees on my property - but that DID NOT OCCUR. The workers did perform good service in terms of cutting down the damaged limb and cleaning up all debris. HOWEVER, they only worked for one hour and DID NOT even cut down all of the other dead limbs on the affected tree. IN FACT, I asked the man cutting the damaged limb to also cut down the other dead limbs in the affected tree and he responded "I could stay up here for another hour to cut down all of the dead limbs in this tree." To this I responded that I was in fact paying for two hours of work and they had only worked for an hour. He must not have understood me or been made aware of the agreement that was made between myself and PING's sales office (that I would in fact receive two hours of labor for the rate I was paying) because he LEFT all of the other dead limbs in the tree. Or perhaps this is the standard - deceitful - operating procedure of PING's Tree Service. I do not mind paying a premium for requested work - emergency or otherwise - but I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT ACCEPT being lied to about the specifics of contracted work which is exactly what PING did in this case. As such, I will NEVER use their services again and I DO NOT (and WILL NOT) recommend their services with anyone else in which I come into contact over such matters. PING was recommended to me and now this recommendation line is broken and I expect unfavorable sentiments about them to ripple throughout my neighborhood and beyond. It is the responsibility for neighbors to highlight bad business actors performing work in their area so other community members are not also harmed.

Ping's crew did an excellent job. They arrived on the day and time as scheduled to take trees down. Zak was the main contact on this day, he and the other guys worked very hard and even when it began to rain they continued until they absolutely had to stop. They came back the following day to complete their part, plus 2 neighbors came to them and they cut down trees for them. The next step was to remove all of the wood, David and Nathan arrived on time to remove the wood. Matt was the contact person for the grinding of the stumps and explained several things that I was not aware of. One was getting all lines marked prior to the stump removal. Matt also explained how much grindings I would have to deal with if they didn't remove. He also explained they would bring in top soil and seed the entire area. Once the lines were marked a date was scheduled. Again, the crew arrived on time. I have to say it was a Friday and Matt, David, Jason and Nathan worked all day non stop. Job was not completed, but only from lack of time. Matt and Jason returned on Monday to complete the job of top soil and seed. They were great! I know I probably left a few names out, but all the guys that helped to complete this job were very professional, informative and did an excellent job. I just want to say Thank You to them again. The backyard is now very open and bright we are very pleased. We were very satisfied with our experience working with all Ping's staff!

Ping's was actually there to cut down some trees for my neighbor. Two of the trees, were close to my house, overhanging my gutters and had caused my gutters to clog up. It was the hottest day in July and near the end of the day when I arrived home. Even though they were not working for me, they came over to explain the work that they were doing and how they were being careful to bring the trees down without damaging my property. I had wanted to get my River Birch trimmed and asked the foreman if I could get an estimate sometime. It was late, hot and I fully expected him to just give me the number to call. Instead, George came right over and gave me a quote. it seemed reasonable and I asked when I could schedule the job. He stated that he and the crew would be happy to stay late and do the job then and there. He even apologized that they would have to finish my neighbor's job first! The crew then got quickly to work and did a great job. They do a meticulous cleanup, leaving the place cleaner than when they arrived. Even though I was an unexpected add-on, they were courteous, professional and even gave me the Angie's List discount. I have a few other trees that I think will need to be trimmed in the future and will be sure to use Ping's again.

Everything was great. Originally we just asked about removing the dead pine tree, but before the work was performed we decided that we wanted a large bush in front of a window removed as well. They added it to the work list and removed it as requested. The price for all of the work was really reasonable. The only issue we had was that the workers who did the stump work said that we'd receive an invoice for payment, but we never received one. About two weeks later someone called about a late payment, but when I called back she was really nice about the confusion and just took the payment over the phone. We'll definitely use them for any future tree needs.

Due to the high number of storms in the area, Ping's was unable to complete the requested service in a timely manner. I had to email several times to get a confirmation of when they'd be arriving. Once I was able to get a confirmation, then they didn't show up, which was an imposition as we had to remove a panel on our fence so they could bring in equipment. When I called to say they didn't show, I was told that I had told them not to come, which was not the case. It seemed like they were overwhelmed and we fell through the cracks. Once they did show up, they were very speedy and professional. The crew was quite impressive. Overall, the service was good, but the communication was lacking. After we put the fence panel back up, then a man showed up the next day to grind the stump, which we were not aware that it was a 2 day process, which meant weAGAIN had to take the fence panel down. We were also told they would leave the wood in 18 inch sections, and that is not the case. Maybe a little fine tuning on the communication side would help. I will use them again and receommend them to my friends and family, and I already have.

Pings was hired to remove a 40-50 ft tall locust tree that was overhanging our home. While they were cutting down the tree it shifted and did hit a window dormer on my second story. While the follow up customer service was initially poor (no contact for 2+ weeks) the foreman from the crew came out to my home and apologized for the issue and did everything he could to make it right. I understand that things sometimes happen on jobs and I appreciate the professional follow up from the foreman.
Description of Work: They took down a 40-50 ft tall locust tree located next to our home.
