They did a great job removing my old hot tub from the middle of a deck, which was built around the old hot tub and covered ~50% of the height of the hot tub. Then they successfully installed the new hot tub by lowering it into the resulting "hole" in the deck without doing any damage to the deck and with only a couple inches to spare on each of the 4 sides of the new hot tub. Really an incredible job of removal and installation. They also customized the stereo system location above the deck surface since it would otherwise have been below the deck and unusable.
Description of Work: Bought a new, high end hot tub from Royal Spa. They removed my old hot tub, which was sunken in a large wood deck and successfully installed the new one without damaging or having to modify my deck or other surrounding items in our back yard.

Went in to purchase a shop for a new hot tub and found a floor model that was discounted that we liked. They had a 2 years same as cash offer with Fifth Third Bank which made it affordable so we provided the requested $1000 deposit. After two hours in the showroom (Salesperson had a Dippin Dots business and kept getting interrupted by his employees calling or coming in to drop off cash receipts.) we signed the agreement making sure that the financing term was a condition. Three days later, bank called to say they could only approve us for a part of the loan on the 2 years same as cash offer. This was not what we agreed to so we called to cancel and get a refund of the deposit. They refused to provide the refund citing that the agreement we signed did not allow for refunds because they start work right away on sales (remember, we bought a floor model so they were out nothing. We fought with them for 2 weeks then filed a Small Claims Court claim. Went to the court date and the owner of Royal Spa, Bob Dapper, showed up. He was rude and unprofessional, insulting us and our lawyer for being and quot;stupidand quot; and bragging to others waiting in line that he had been in court many times and always won. He bragged that most of the judges in town are customers so he would always win. Shocking given that he was proudly wearing a Royal Spa shirt. Showed up for the court date and would you believe.....the judge disclosed that he had a Royal spa hot tub and thus he would hear the case or we could defer. At that point, the legal fees were mounting and our hope of ever getting the $1000 back was waning. Their products are good, but buyer beware. DO NOT PUT DOWN A DEPOSIT UNTIL ALL YOUR TERMS ARE MET! Horrible experience and want to vomit every time I see Bob's smiling face on a TV ad saying and quot;Oh the things I do for piece and harmony.and quot; What a selfish jerk. For being an Indiana guy, he sure did not demonstrate those values during our transaction.
Description of Work: Purchase a new hot tub DO read all the fine print on their "agreement". DO make sure your terms (financing, delivery, etc) are all met before putting a dime down. DON'T expect resolution if you have an issue DON'T trust everything the sales person says.

The rest of the story is still to come...
Description of Work: We first contacted RoyalSpa in December 2010 as we were purchasing a home that had a relatively new RoyalSpa hottub. In this first call, we inquired about having them do an inspection - we were interested in possibly having this done in conjunction with the traditional housing inspection happening for the home purchase. They assured us that this would be a waste of time and money and that hottubs were very easy to maintain (just dump in the chemicals once as week and it's all fine). We took them at their word. The first time we used the hottub (which was often used by the previous owner) we were struck by the musty smell and what looked like sediment in the water. We couldn't do anything about it, though, until the summer. We consulted again with RoyalSpa for advice on emptying and cleaning and refilling. This took place over 2 or 3 calls. We bought new filters and painstakenly wiped down the hottub after it was drained, which was no easy task since nasty gunk was dried on the surface everywhere. We refilled the hottub, fired up the jets and were right back where we started: nasty junk in the water. Round 2: We sought other advice and used a different chemical process to clean the pipes before draining. And we cleaned the filters. Again. And wiped it all out. Again. And we even used a wet/dry vac to suction the jets, which did result in a large amount of water being retrieved from the pipes. And we refilled. And there the junk is in the water. Again. To say we're furious at this point is an understatement. All of this goes back to: Wrong advice when we first called about an inspection. A hottub should be inspected. And, it should be thoroughly flushed and cleaned in conjunction with ownership changes. (A piece of advice: if you buy a home with a hottub, write into the contract that it must be deep cleaned - this costs app. $400 and it's only fair that the sellers do this.) Continually offering poor advice about maintenance. They tout on their website how minimal the maintenance is and they certainly stick to this when you speak to them. Well, it seems that this is a true case of getting out of it what you put in. Minimal maintenance, as they suggest, results in a really disgusting, frustrating and expensive hottub. Nine months out, we have spent over $300 in supplies; put in 15+ hours of labor, research, calls, etc.; and wasted 1,000 gallons of water. We have not been able to use it in months. Now, at a minimum, we will dish out another $400 for deep cleaning and another 500 gallons to refill the beast (again). Thanks, RoyalSpa, for your lousy advice. Honesty 9 months ago would've saved us notable money, time and frustration.

Response from Royal Spa
The member never hired Royal Spa nor did she invite us onto her property to perform any work. Royal Spa will gladly inspect a hot tub manufactured by our company for $125.00. The only stipulations we ask is that the spa to be filled with water and have power running to the unit to perform a complete inspection. Our Service Department would perform the inspection via a service call that includes a detailed report of the product and any cost necessary to repair such item. Again, we have no record of service or a request for inspection from the member. As it appears, someone at our company may have informed the member that the inspection was not all-together necessary in her case and they must have been right. Nowhere in the complaint did she mention the spa to be non-functional, only dirty and in need of being cleaned. It sounds like we saved this person $125.00 for an unnecessary inspection. (Inspections do not include cleaning and filling a spa.) The musty smell and sediment in the water is due to neglect and lack of maintenance by the current and/or previous homeowner. Royal Spa Sales and Service is more than happy to offer advice, via the phone or in person at the stores, on chemicals and how to clean the spa. Also, our Service Department offers a Standard DCR (drain, clean, and refill) for a regular size spa for $250.00. Other services are available for an additional fee. Royal Spa will notify the customer of extra costs and get approval before the work is performed. If the member called the Royal Spa Service Department to inquire about inspection, she would have been given the above listed price. If a person declines to have a spa inspected, Royal Spa cannot be held responsible for the condition of the product. We cannot presume to know how a previous owner used the spa or did maintenance on the unit. For the member to hold Royal Spa responsible is unfair and misleading… She purchased a “used” spa that is more than 8 years old and elected to not have it inspected or cleaned. We invite this person to contact our Service Manager (317-781-0828 Ext 24), Ron Southern, if she requires advice or service on her spa. For the member to spend $300 in supplies, 15 hours in labor, and waste 1,000 gallons of water does not make sense. She could have hired us to drain, clean, and refill her spa for as little as $250.00. However, Royal Spa will not service this spa until the member recants her statement. Sincerely, Rees Wiesenauer Customer Relations Manager Royal Spa (317) 781-0828 Ext 15

The spa is great. They have four year warranty on the sale and a three year warranty. For some reason if I don't like one of the jets, they will come out and replace it. They would put a different one that I like at no charge. They make it there. He walked me through the whole place and showed me how they make it. Their filters are a lot cheaper compared to other places. They are smart and they know exactly what they are talking about. They told us the differences. The thing works great and I am impressed with them. They are nice and polite. They seem to know what they are doing. They also have custom bath tubs. The guy who I spoke to was in the business for about 14 years and he was very knowledgeable. I would recommend them to anyone.

It's a good company. The first time they came out, my pump had gone out of warranty. They went ahead and honored the warranty because it was so close to the warranty date. They are just an excellent company to work with. They are very responsive. They back their equipment and products 100%. They are pretty available. You can set up an appointment online. They are very accommodating.

About four months after purchase, the tub shut down and we were a bit freaked. My husband called and the tech walked him through what to do via phone. He stayed on the line until it was running. Minor thing that we now know how to handle if it happens again.
Description of Work: First interaction was the purchase itself. They take the time to explain the features and product attributes. Definitely recommend that you take them up on the "wet test" offer (visit store after hours to use the hot tubs you're interested in). After taking the wet test, our second fave tub became our first fave so really glad we did that. Install was hassle free.

We have worked with the owner of Royal Spa, Bob Dapper and have come to a happy resolution to the issues we had regarding the spa and the cloudiness of the water in the spa. Bob was responsive to our concerns that we did not get the spa we negiotiated for and is exchanging the spa for a new one with the additional lights we thought we had purchased. Bob also came out to our home and discussed the cloudy nature of the water and resolved that issue too. We appreciate Bob resolving our issues and our new spa is scheduled for delivery on Nov 4th. Bob stepped up and made the it right for us. We appreciate his efforts. Overall experience was atrocious! We had purchased a spa from Royal Spa 12 years ago (a Sultan) and had very few problems with it. The cabinet was wood and had begun to detriorate, so we went to Royal Spa to inquire as to the cost of replacing the cabinet on the old spa. The salesperson in the Avon store made it sound like such a better deal to purchase a new spa then trying to get the cabinet replaced give the cost of replacement and the upgraded features on the new spa. We purchased a new spa and are regretting our decision. First, we did not get the spa we negotiated for. We were under the understanding with the salesperson that we were getting the total light package. We specifically asked him during our negotiations and completion of the invoice that we were getting all the lights demonstrated on the floor model with stereo, waterfall and fountains .. his reply was yes what we saw on the floor model was what we were getting. Not so. As soon as we noticed we did not get the entire package after delivery (next day), we began calling represenatives of Royal Spa. They would not answer the phone or would not return our calls after repeated meassages. One represenative acknowledged to me in a later call they did answer that they had received our voicemail messages. This leads me to belive they are screening their calls in hopes we will go away. Second, we have used the spa once and have since been unable to get the chemicals correct. We followed the instruction manual to no avail and spoken with several individuals of Royal Spa and they all have instructed us to do something different. We have followed their instructions to the letter and the spa is still as cloudy as milk. We are now of the opinion that the filtration system is defective. Again, no represenative of Royal Spa has stepped up to assist with this problem even when asked by us. We have gotten conflicting instructions and the shove-off with this problem too. We never, ever had this problem with our old spa. Royal Spa has no customer assistance and we are seeking a full return of our monies and having the new spa removed. I am appalled at the poor quality of the merchandise we received, the poor customer service after delivery, and dismal corporate attitude displayed by the management of Royal Spa. Customers deserve call backs when promised or at all and resolution to problems. Defective product and defective service. Royal Spa is bad.
Description of Work: Purchased a new Sultan spa with waterfall, fountains, lights, stereo, cover with lifter, steps with delivery and set-up. They were also to remove our old spa which we had purchased from Royal Spa 12 years ago.

Initially everything was fantastic. The salesperson was good and the price was great, and the installation whet well also. However, within around two years, the cover began to break down and the heating element in the hot tub went out. They came out and fixed the heating element but said that it was not covered under warranty because they claimed that I had not done the chemicals correctly. I had been doing the chemicals exactly as the instruction manual explained, so I was disappointed with how they treated us and how they responded. They failed to return our phone calls, failed to resolve our issues, and I would not buy another spa from them again.

I phoned service to get "advice." The gentleman in the service department offerred me a very easy potnetial fix I could try--rather than simply sending out a service technician for an expensive service call. I was not sucessful and left a message (after normal business hours) that this was not successful and that I would, indeed, need a service call. The service technician was at my home the very next day. He assessed the problem and noticed from my records that they had previously made this repair. Becuase of that, there was no charge. I was SO impressed that they gave me "options" on my first call rather simply recommending/scheduling a service call. I was equally impressed by how quickly they arranged the service and the integrity they showed in realizing this had previously been repaired by them and covering it under warranty. This kind of honesty and integrity are exceptional and I wanted to be sure to "brag" about them.

Purchase experience was good. Pre-sale, salesman came out to look at our 2nd story deck to be sure the tub would be able to be lifted up to it. However, we were promised that a week after the installation, the salesman would return and go over the chemical treatments. He never followed up and several calls to the store have gone unreturned. Very disappointed in the follow-through considering the extra cost for a Royal Spa hot tub.

We saw them at a patio show and they offered us a "good deal" on a spa for $10,000. One of the side walls was bulged, so they ended up charging us $500 more than the original quote to repair/replace that wall. We had lots of problems with this entire experience. When the swim spa was delivered and installed, it wouldn't even start up, so they had to replace parts in the black control box. They delivered the wrong spa cover twice. Within a year, we noticed that the wall they had replaced was bulging again, so they offered to replace the spa. The new spa they had delivered was completely inferior to the first one, it leaked, and apparently had been shipped from the factory without the necessary seals. They had to come back multiple times for repairs because they didn't do it right the first times. Then, after a year, we still had leaks and they determined the other side didn't have seals either... Also, during this time, the heater had gone out, and they said we would have to pay for that and it would not be covered by warranty. We had problems with the steps fading and they were supposed to replace the steps, but never did. Also, the wood had never been sealed as it was supposed to have been, on the second spa, and may not even be the correct type of wood that we paid for. We also had to replace the electrical boxes on the spa twice. This was a horrible experienced and we would not use them again. They still haven't resolved all of the problems. They had very poor attitudes and they didn't follow through on warranty work that should have been covered and been completed. They also promised a refund check that I never received.

After returning from our honeymoon, I discovered the hot tub was not working. I called royal spa for suggestions. The gentlemen there treated my like an idiot as I tried to figure out the GFI outlest and breakers. He informed me to call back when my husband was home. This is not the first time someone was rude there after the spa was bought and delivered. My husband and I got the breaker tripped and the hot tub going. Unfortunately, this ended up being a daily event. So, I called the company back and they continued to be rude as they tried to give other suggestions and I said I had done all those things (cleaned the filters, put new water in, etc). They didn't want to come out and just look at it, so I hired an electrician which cost a lot of money. The breaker was not the problem and the hot tub did the same thing after he left. So, I called royal spa again and the service department tried to walk me through it again. Finally, I convinced them to come out and look at it. Luckily, the gentleman they sent was super nice although they failed to tell him that my cell phone has a different area code, so he never called to say he was on his way. He also explained everything he was doing for me and told me the 2 possible problems which we corrected and the hot tub is working fine. I only had to pay the trip charge since I am on the warranty plan. The field tech was the only shining star in the whole process. Unfortunately, I would have to use royal spa until I am out of my warranty. But there post sales service otherwise leaves much to be desired.

We needed a new spa cover for our hot tub. We stopped by on a Saturday and picked up a cover that we were told was new but dusty. We were told we were getting a price break because it was out of the box. When we got it home, and put it on the tub, it was missing a strap. When we called the following Monday and spoke to the service department, we were told that it was a previously used cover, although they weren't aware that it was damaged. We were told to return it for an exchange. We did return it on the following Saturday. They pleasantly replaced it with a new one in the box. It was then that we learned that we had not received a price break on the used cover. I felt like someone had tried to pull one over on us. I trusted this locally owned and operated company to treat me right. I always thought their prices were a little high but had continued to do business with them because they were local. This experience caused us a great deal of frustration, having to load a spa cover on our car more than once and having to return to Royal Spa. When we build our new home, we will be shopping around for our new hot tub.
Description of Work: Purchased replacement spa cover.
