Concrete removal and replacement, including driveways, sidewalks, patios, porches, footers, foundation work, & more.
On Friday June 27, 2014 we witnessed workers from a Rods Quality Concrete pouring a driveway not far from our home. Needing a concrete patio poured, we stopped and asked which company they were working f or. Their worker was very nice and gave us one of their cards. We called them immediately when we got home. We got a voice mailbox, so we left our name, phone number and address for a respond call. We did not receive a response until Tuesday, July 1. At they time we were told that their estimator would be out on Wednesday, July 2nd, late in the afternoon. When the estimator came, he did nit come to our door. We noticed a truck in front of our house and thought that might be him, but he was in the truck, so I opened the front door to let him know we were home. He never came to the door. So my husband stepped out on our porch, to let the man know we were here. He said that the man was starting up his truck, getting ready to leave. So, I stepped out on the porch. He made no effort to get out of his truck, so we thought maybe it was someone for our neighbor. Then, I got a text message from Jeff Butler, giving me a price for the job ($1800) and telling me if we wanted to move forward to call him. I called the phone number he left. I asked if this was Jeff and if he was sitting out in front of my house. He said yes. I asked why he did not come to the door to talk to my husband. He said he looked at the job and was told to text the price to me. I told him that was not my instructions and that my husband and I had stayed home all day waiting for him to come and talk to us. He sId if my husband wanted to talk to him, why didn't he come outside. I told him that my husband did step outside, but we were unsure of who was out in the truck and he should have come to the door. He said that was not his instructions, to which I told him that I never told anyone to text us the price. He then told me that I was yelling at him and that he did. Not have to do business with anyone who yelled at him. I told him that he was unprofessional and we would not do business with ant company that was so rude. We wanted someone to tell us what they would do, and give us a chance to ask questions, but evidently that is not the way concrete companies work. We contacted another company for concrete work and asked them to come out to give us an estimate and they said they would not come out, just send them some pictures of the area where we want tha concrete poured. Are all concrete contractors that unprofessional?
Description of Work: We wanted a patio slab poured, but due their unprofessional behavior, we will not do business with them.

Horribly. First he was late to our scheduled time. Then he only spent five minutes at my house where he proceeded to tell me what to do. He oddly never asked me what we wanted or did he go over my options. He did send a quote that was over a grand more then the other quotes I got. I then found out he subs all his work anyway and the company that I ended up going with is who he calls so going directly to them saved me a ton of cash and frustration. I just don't get it.

I am a procurement professional for my living - buying goods and services for a Fortune 100 company. I have never had an experience with a potential service provider as I had this week and today with Rod's. 1) I called to set up an estimate. I left a message with all my contact information requesting a return call. 2) I received a return call within a day, but I wasn't home and Jeff Butler left a message to contact him via a gmail account - no return phone number. I thought this was a bit odd.... 3) I responded to the gmail account with a brief overview of the project expecting a return phone call. 4) I received an email response asking for the service address to which I responded with the address. I also noted that I work from home and should be available most days with advance notice so that they don't arrive while I'm busy with work. 5) Estimator shows up today (5/23/14) unannounced - We're anxious to get the project started so I dropped what I was doing to provide him my attention. 6) I laid out the project we wanted done, and also identified that all I needed was for them to do the initial excavation, provide the fill/ foundation, build the molds and complete the pour. 7) I informed him that I already "owned" 9 yards of concrete that I had purchased at a charity auction for a local church/school where our child attends. It was donated to the church/school by IMI (Irving Materials Inc). This is where it gets odd.... 8) The estimator (Jeff Butler) then tells me he'll take measurements and let me know when he's done. He was done in a matter of minutes as he said that his boss (Rod) would not allow him to give me an estimate because "he would not work with IMI". 9) No reason was provided.... Jeff just danced around the fact that they had "past issues with this company", to which I responded that really isn't at play here because the materials "contract" is between myself and IMI. No accounts payable or receivables issues between IMI and Rod's whatsoever! Rod's would have nothing to do with supplying the concrete, and in as much would have no representation of a warranty on materials whatsoever. From a contract perspective Rods' would only be responsible for THEIR workmanship and not the materials. No response 10) I asked to speak with Rod, and Jeff told me that "it wouldn't matter because Rod wouldn't talk to me about it , and that Rod isn't as nice as me anyway" ! To which I told Jeff goodbye. 11) After Jeff left, I called Rod directly at his office number to have a brief - I mean very brief - discussion about this issue, and Rod basically had no interest in talking to me, or earning my business, as he just hung up on me as I was trying to explain that they would not be responsible for any warranty related to the materials. He didn't care. I know this is an unusual situation because of me already having the materials, but the manner in which I was treated by these people, and their lack of even the most basic customer service skills is remarkable and needs to be noted.

Description of Work: We are wanting to extend our driveway.
Rod's team did a quick job removing the old drive and patio, worked with me on new design and layout. He delivered a great result with excellent price, and was even willing to come back and fix a few places that needed attention. We have rec'd quite a few compliments on the new look and we're very pleased.

I didn't have any dislikes. I loved the way they were able to come out and do the job very fast, and very efficiently. They were very professional, and very prompt. It took only 23 hours from the start to the finish of the job, which really surprised me. When I called and gave them the approval to do the job, they were out within two days, when I expected them to take a couple to 3 weeks to work me in. I am extremely satisfied with their service.

I left a voicemail and received a call-back several days later. The gentleman that returned my call seemed very hurried and not very interested in even discussing the work in detail. He asked for square footage and just rattled off an estimate. He didn't offer to come out and look at our patio or offer suggestions and a more reliable quote. Very disappointing.

The owner of the company, Mr. Rod Vore, was courteous and polite on our initial consultation. He verbally promised he would start work on a particular day, but didn't show up. After a few phone calls to his secretary, he called back to say he was swamped with work and would be out soon. On the day he arrived to do the job, he came extremely early and was unannounced. Once Mr. Vore got his employees familiar with the task, he left and was gone most of the day. He did return that night to supervise and answer any questions. Mr. Vore's numerous employees did a tremendous job getting started and stayed on task. The job was big and the employees put in a long, hard day. The employees were friendly and polite, and worked consistently and diligently. The end product looked very professional, and we were very pleased with the outcome.
Description of Work: Graded existing gravel driveway, spread existing gravel where needed. Built forms for new driveway, confirmed design with homeowner. Poured 2/3 driveway and a short sidewalk on one day, sent worker out the following day to cut joints. Poured remaining 1/3 of driveway a few days later, then returned to cut joints. Attempted to seal concrete with sealant during a rainstorm; most of sealant washed away. Returned a final time and sealed entire driveway.

Rod's Quality Concrete poured a brand new concrete driveway at my house that replaced my gravel driveway. The quote he gave me was the best one after getting quotes from about 5 contractors. Rod and his crew were extremely friendly and professional. The entire job was done in one day, and this was with dealing with potential rain that week and having to possibly work around the weather. The driveway is gorgeous and I am very very pleased with the work and the price. I will definitely call them again if I have future jobs and would highly recommend this company to anybody else.

Loved working with this company. Rod has a heart of gold and he and his workers were very nice and professional. When it was getting close to the time they were getting ready to pour the concrete on the sidewalk which I wanted to design and I wasn't home, Rod worked very hard to find me, and when I returned home, they reconfigured what they had dug to suit me. They were very mindful of building the new driveway to grade for water runoff. The part that connects to the garage is so smooth, I don't feel a bump when I pull out of the garage. They were careful to ask that I raise the garage door while they worked near it so they did not harm it. As a result, I was comfortable leaving the house unlocked while they were here. The new driveway and walk look great! Rod made sure they cleaned up well afterward before asking for my final payment. I highly recommend Rod's Quality Concrete.

This transaction went really well. Rod quoted $2000 less than one company and $1000 less than another. We agreed to do the job with him. He's a really down-to-Earth guy, very polite and professional. The work crew were all kind, answered all of our questions, went above-and-beyond in clean-up, and worked very hard. A crew came on Saturday to remove most of the old driveway and Rod came on Sunday (!) to go over any last questions or concerns before they started the work on Monday (thinking we may not be home on Monday). All-in-all a great experience; great price and we would suggest them to anyone.

I called Rod early in the week to set up an appointment to receive a quote and left a message. I received a call back the next day and Rod was willing to meet me on Thursday evening at 6pm. Thursday afternoon at 4:21 I received a phone call from Rod confirming my appointment. I was unable to answer Rod's, but promptly called him back and left him a message at 4:28pm confirming our appointment at 6:00pm. I drive an hour from work to get home and I placed this phone call in the car driving home. When I was finished calling Rod back I placed the phone on the passenger seat. Rod later called me at 5:06pm, texted me at 5:07pm, and called two more times at 5:15pm. Rod was unable to locate my address in mapquest and was trying to get directions(my house is new construction and does not show up in MapQuest yet, it does show up in google maps). I did not answer Rod's phone calls or text messages because I was driving and my phone was on vibrate on the passenger seat. I returned Rod's call at 5:37pm to an enraged Rod that proceeded to lecture/yell at me about the importance of returning phone calls in a more timely manner. He continued to explained that he had grown tired of waiting (in an area about 10 minutes from my house) and left. Feeling outraged myself at receiving this treatment, I explained I sit around waiting for Rod to call me, exchanged some pleasantries and we decided it was not best to pursue the quote or concrete work. In my opinion Rod didn't want my work or my money and I wish he would have said so upfront. Had Rod simply asked me for directions when I returned his phone call he would have arrived at my house early for our 6pm appointment. So the fact he didn't wait until our appointment time before he gave up waiting tells me he real;l;y didn't want this job and was searching for a way not to take it or quote it. My neighbors also called Rod earlier in the week and are still waiting for a call back. so I can't speak to Rod's quality of work, but his professionalism and customer service stinks. So hopefully you have a better experience with Rod and he calls you back and shows up, but buyer be ware.

We received numerous quotes for this project, and Rod's was definitely the most attractive. Price wasn't the only thing that sold us - it was the genuine care and time that Rod took. He was involved throughout the entire process. The folks that work for Rod are some of the most hardworking I've seen. And the results.....fantastic!! It might be hard for some to get excited about a new driveway, but the finished product is just beautiful and we are thrilled! Rod did some extra things to enhance the apprearance of our sidewalk and steps which looks awesome! Everything looks so great that our neighbor is now going to hire Rod and his crew! I highly recommend Rod for any concrete or aggregate needs.

Mr. Vole had scheduled our work for Thursday Oct 3rd and the day started out looking like a rainy day. The weather cleared and a demolition crew arrived in the afternoon. Demolition and forming were completed the following day. Concrete was poured Saturday morning just in time to beat the rain due about noon. Forms were stripped the following day and the tooled liners were saw cut. Clean up occurred Monday morning. The cool, damp conditions are ideal for curing concrete. The driveway measuring 52ft. by 16ft. was removed and placed for $3850. The curved sidewalk approximately 38ft. by 3'10 replaced for $960; the 14ft. by 11ft. patio for $900; and the 3ft. by 3ft. back step for $150. Mr. Vole's crews work so well together that it's impossible to tell which who's the crew leader. The sites were all prepared for concrete placement properly and the finishers did an excellent job. The concrete mix had air entrainment which is essential for durability. Joints were saw cut at about 8 ft. which should eliminate cracking between the joints in the future. Everything looks good. I have since changed our landscaping and asked the landscaper his opinion of the cleanup work. He replied, "much better than most". Rod's Quality Concrete, Inc. does excellent work.

Over a 5 year period of time, I had contacted no less than 6 different contractors to get bids on doing a complete tearout and install of a concrete driveway. This year, I finally contacted Rod Vore of Rod's Quality Concrete. Rod was the only contractor who did not push his own agenda and wanted to truly do a quality job based on high industry standards. He did not question my request for a 5 inch base, for wire mesh and steel rebar reinforcement, for 8 inch footings around the perimeter, and for hand finished contraction joints and edging. He understood my needs and wanted to do the job the better way. My information for prepping for a driveway install was based on previous experience doing concrete work on the west coast, reading articles in Fine Homebuilding magazine and a recommendation from Rod to get on Concrete.Com. All of this experience and info pointed me to Rod to get the job done. And that he did. He has an outstanding crew of very hard working men and I would challenge anyone who thinks otherwise. Working hard physical labor 10 -14 hour days 6 days a week is not for the average crowd, and Rod's crew is a dedicated workforce. Like any major undertaking, it takes time, money and an understanding (read communication), to be able to get the job done. Rod has a great understanding of his craft and is able to communicate it to his crews and his customers for the best results. I wish I had him as my contractor 20 years ago when I had foundation work done for a shop addition to my garage. Rod is a man of his word, and I truly appreciate the fine job that he and his men did. Thanks guys.

Quote was the lowest of two by quite a bit. Several delays in starting and completing job - 4 1/2 days total, work including Saturdays and Sundays (not my favorite scheduling). Some delays were reasonable because of potential rain. Rod, the contractor, was on site and supervising no more than half an hour, total, on this job. Otherwise, the crew spoke almost no English which limited problem-solving. Sealer is uneven, with yellow patches. When Rod first arrived he quickly spray-painted a red X on an existing step which he incorrectly assumed that I wanted removed. After much attempted cleaning by me, the red X is still very noticeable. Dark blotches in the concrete. Coloring used in the stamping was spilled on recently sealed asphalt driveway and does not come off. Crew discarded globs of wet concrete in ground cover at back of property without asking. Control joints cut into surface of stamped concrete without discussing how they would look in relation to the patteern. Joints are chipped at top edge (dull saw). Hole inserted to mount iron railing (which was on site) is one inch off. Rod did return, after a couple of delays, to look at most of these problems but has not followed up to correct anything. Rod declined to do a written contract and declined to cure the concrete. Wanted payment before job concluded - was angry when we insisted on job completion before payment. To sum up, this seems to be a get-er-done contractor and the Hispanic crew are nice guys, but clearly the emphasis was juggling a lot of jobs, getting on to the next one rather than perfectionist or even attempting to leave things clean.

Absolutely the most pleasant experience we've ever received from any contractor and crew. Rod was such an expert in his craft, and his ideals are what got us more than we had dreamed of. His crew were a joy to work with and they were extremely polite, hardworking, and in general went out of their way to add a few extra touches to our project, that made it more special. At the end of of each day and at the finish of the finished project, they took extra time and care to leave our property in the best condition they could. When the project was completed, we had numerous neighbors in our subdivision and surrounding area, stop and tell us what a beautiful driveway we have. We have no doubt that Rod was contacted for a few estimates. All in all.......we couldn't be happier with the service we received.

Rod is a nice, honest guy who does high quality concrete work. He's a "handshake" businessman so if you're a Type A personality and want all the details nailed down then you may end up frustrated. But if you want high-quality, fair-priced concrete then take a chill pill and work with Rod. He did the intial estimates and then his crew of 3 guys did the install. In addition to pouring the driveway, patio, and sidewalk they added a trench drain because the driveway slopes towards our garage. We had a couple minor concerns (yard clean up, a minor missed saw cut) that he happily fixed when we did the job completion walkthrough.
