Provider called when he realized he was going to be late for the appointment . He gave me a new time and showed up promptly.

He is such a nice guy but its not fair to Angie's list patrons to read all the good reviews and not know what might go wrong. The job was supposed to take 4 weeks and after 8 was still not complete. We ran out of tile on 3 separate occasions requiring a reorder. (not in stock) He had car trouble on 3 different occasions missing work those days. He did not assign enough work for the couple that actually set the tile so they might work a few hours and go home. The couple always worked in the afternoon so a half day was all they could do. They were supposed to use a water saw that would make a nice clean cut but he never brought one and they cut the tile with a power hand saw. They did not clean up the work area and left piles of trash in the master bedroom. (bath was the master) . I paid extra for epoxy grout and they never properly cleaned it off the tile and the floor is still sticky. I have been cleaning it myself since they tried twice with no luck. I had to finish the grouting the spots they missed with regular grout. There is damage to my new hardwood floor at the bathroom door. It took 6 hours to clean up my garage after they blew tile dust everywhere. I could go on forever but you get the idea. He will promise you anything but not deliver on that promise. This is my 6th house and 8 remodel job and by far the worst experience I have ever had.

Overall, Louis was great to work with. He gave me a fairly priced quote and was able to start on my schedule. I work pretty weird hours so it is usually tough for me to work with contractors but Louis was flexible. He had two employees (Lee and Jesse) help lay the tile and they were great. They were professional and worked hard to do the job in a few days. They only worked afternoons which helped me because of my schedule. Louis ended up putting the finishing touches for me on a Saturday which was the only day I could do it. The project ended up looking great. There are probably other contractors that can get the job done fasted but Louis provided great quality, at a great price, on my schedule which I really appreciated. Overall, I would use him again.

BUYER BEWARE! PLEASE LET US SAVE YOU FRUSTRATION, STRESS AND MONEY! I'm so shocked to see such good reviews on this contractor as that was not our experience. Yes, he is "nice, polite" and has a gentle demeanor about him. He's hard not to like. But our work experience with him was frustrating from the beginning. We were desperate for a job to get done in time for our son's graduation openhouse, so I ignored the red flags waving wildly in front of me from the beginning. I should have known when he missed our initial consultation because he forgot about it -- I should have just stopped the process then! I so wish I would have. There's so much wrong here I fear that writing a very long review will prevent potential customers from reading it. So, I'll just list the top 10 highlights of what went wrong for us. Honestly if we can save someone the frustration, disappointment and money loss, that will help us in knowing we helped someone else! 1. Was 1 1/2 hour late to initial consultation to do an estimate. He forgot and I called him, so he came out. During that consultation he took a call from another client and had to state to that client "I didn't forget about you. I'll get back as soon as I can to finish it up for you." RED FLAG! 2. I had to call and "track" Louis down via phone to find out when he was starting 3. Louis kept assuring me he would be "done this weekend" and he wouldn't even show up when he said he would be there 4. Worked most days 11:30am to 3:30 pm - - 4 to 5 hours maximum most days 5. One difficulty seemed to be in the fact that Louis' adult son works for him and doesn't drive and he has to pick him up and drop him off each day. 6. Adult son seemed to do a good job on the prep work, but didn't glue all the tiles down where needed 7. Son used the wrong box of tiles (from a different batch) even after I told him and Louis which tiles to use first 8. My husband and I spent 10 hours scrubbing tile mortar off of our good tile floor. The floor was never covered, so drips, foot prints and bucket rings of tile glue were dried all over our good tile floor. Unbelievable!!!! This could have been prevented so easily. 9. Too many times to count that we left our dogs locked up in a bedroom because Louis said he'd be at the house to work and didn't show up. Only one time did he call to say he wouldn't be there. All other times I had to call him when I got home from work and discovered he had not been here. And then he'd say "oh we will be there tomorrow" or "we are planning to be at your house the bulk of next week." Most of the time, these promises were never met. 10. Son had a screaming fit on one day regarding his pay. He ended up stomping out of our house and taking off on his bike. Yelling the whole time! That was it for us. During the last week, he only showed up one time of four times he said he would be here. The last weekend, he came on a Friday evening (after receiving two calls from us) and worked from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm and as he left he said he'd be back on Saturday afternoon. He did not show up or call throughout the whole three day weekend. When he came on Tuesday morning (and we didn't have any idea he was coming back), he found his items on the front porch where we had placed them and we asked him to not come back. We took a loss but we were so relieved to not have the stress in our home any longer. We had heard other stories about his being behind on many other jobs and we didn't want to put up with the frustration any longer. Having your home torn up is stressful enough and when the contractor is making promises and not showing up it just adds to the stress.

They did a fantastic job! Even though they had to deal with a somewhat wonky wall that was definitely out of plumb, as well as long, skinny tiles, they did wonderful work! We could not be happier.

Louis is the nicest and most polite contractor I've ever met. He also made sure he understood what we wanted done and, once I hired him, made arrangements for one of his employees (with 30 years experience installing tile) to handle the job. They worked around our schedule and had the job completed in just two days. We had previously purchased the tile and grout so they only had to provide the thin-set. Since the job was completed, we noticed a few things that need fixed (missing grout, a few crooked tiles, and a few cracked tiles). Louis has been contacted to come take a look and says he will. I will update when he does. Update: Louis returned, personally, and made all necessary repairs. We are very happy with the outcome and wouldn't hesitate to hire Louis again.

He was one of the most professional workers I have ever had in our home. He explained the advantages of upgrading the grout so that everything is sealed and will not absorb any stains, mold, mildew, etc. He had to complete the work in stages -- every day when he left we could have eaten off the floor!! I have never seen a man clean up every day like he did. We are delighted with his work and will recommend him every chance we get.

We had a house built in 1997 and had an older looking fireplace and hearth. We wanted to replaced it with stacked stone and new floating mantle. We interviewed a few companies and got along best with Lewis and felt his company was the most capable. We supplied the hardscapes and supplies and Lewis' quoted fee was for labor to demolish old fireplace and mantle and install a new façade and mantle and minor supplies to get that done. Only minor issues with some appointment times punctuality, but didn't get in the way of the work and not something to be concerned with moving forward. Timeframe of the work was as quote as was the price. Will be using this company again next time we need help with their work. Before and after pics attached.

I thought his quote for the job was good and paid him half to start the job. He showed up when promised and cleaned and grouted the shower for 2 days and returned a 3rd day to wipe off the tile. The shower tile looked the cleanest it looked for quite awhile and grout lines were crisp. The wall/floor joint line was a little thicker than usual but the narrow line didn't hold up before. How good of a job depends on how long the joint lasts. Its 2 months later and it is still tight. Suggestions: He could wear shoe covers when walking over customers carpets and put a tarp down at his work area because he works with caustic cleaning solutions and grout mortar. Also, ventilation is needed for the fumes and a fan to dry the new grout.

We are very pleased with the work done by Louis and his assistant Lee. It is unusual to find a craftsman who takes the time required to do a job right, the first time. Louis is meticulous in his work and will redo anything you (or he) are not pleased with. He may take a little longer to finish a job, but it is because he strives for perfection. In addition to his high quality work, he is a high character individual and a true gentleman. I have great trust in him and would recommend him to friends.

After locating Louis Mitchell's name on Angies List, I called him regarding my job needs and he immediately returned my phone call. I told him I was having difficulty in getting help with finding the right kind of tile and he told me first of all where to go. He sent me to Miles Distributors where he does business and they were absolutely fabulous. Louis came to my home, looked at the areas to be serviced and gave me an estimate within a day or two of our initial phone conversation. We set a date for him to come and start the job and he showed up exactly on time. He is a true gentleman. Louis was extremely personable, courteous and his workmanship is of the highest quality. He spent hours cutting out tile squares so that everything would look perfect around the wood edging above the back splash. When he was going to be late, he would call and tell me exactly what had happened and when he would be arriving. Yes, it took him a while to do my back splash but the job is absolutely perfect and I have had so may compliments from neighbors and friends. The shower in my master bathroom looks better than when it was initially installed. Every night when he finished, he would clean up the entire area as to not leave any dust or debris. Louis is truly a gifted craftsman. He is a man of integrity and honesty. I felt I could leave the house and not have to worry about him being there alone. We had many wonderful conversations and it was evident that he is very dedicated to every job he does and he treated my home like he was remodeling something in his own home. I very highly recommend Louis Mitchell and would call him again in a heartbeat to do additional tile work in my home if needed.

Louis returned my initial call promptly and arranged a site visit to quote the job. He was very professional and friendly. Louis showed up on time for the appointment and quoted a very fair price for the work. I was looking for a "get the job done" contractor and Louis accommodated my time frame and completed the work quickly. He always called to tell me he was on his way to the job. I am very pleased with his work and would use him again for any future projects.

Mr. Mitchell was very personable, professional and knowledgable. He fixed the problem thoroughly and quickly.

Louis did 99% of the work himself. He is a meticulous professional. I would rate his quality as second to none. The shower that he rebuilt looks like something you would see in a 5 star hotel. All of the ceramic tiles are hand cut by him. The only negative is that perfection takes time and the job took longer than we would have preferred. Louis was very professional and we will certainly call him again.

We were told it'd take about 3 days. It took about 8-9. However, he gave us a free estimate, was able to WORK within about 2-3 days of calling him, & most places we would've had to wait for about 6-8 weeks for them to even START working, so he saved us a considerable amount of time. Plus, he was doing everything by himself with a small tile cutter. The price was only for labor & we had to pay for all the materials. We had gotten a couple estimates beforehand that were a little lower than that-1 that would've included the grout & cement board in the price from another tile company with 2 workers & 1 even lower that was from a handy man who could've worked sooner as well-which while he did some good work, only had done a few tile jobs & we would've had to go with him to a store further away to get his discount on grout & still pay for the extras & he didn't feel it was necessary to have cement board. We just felt more comfortable & felt it would last longer if we had cement board & a professional who only did tile work. We only put a C for the price due to the lower quotes we got, but we were so happy with the outcome, we also felt like he deserved it. Louis was extremely friendly & my 5 year old daughter who's sometimes shy around new people, but has no problem telling me how she feels, told me he was the nicest tile guy she's ever met. ;) He let my 4 year old son sit quietly & watch him a few times to learn what he was doing when asked which was a huge blessing & I kept making sure it was alright, & he reassured me he was fine & loved that he wanted to learn. We also felt comfy leaving the house a few times when needed with him over by himself because he was very trustworthy & has great character. He wasn't always on time, but he was traveling further to our house & always called to let me know when he'd arrive. Honestly, I don't mind a little late. There were a couple times it was a couple hours due to car trouble, but like I said, he always called to let me know, & worked later those days. We've had someone work on our kitchen before that would show up anywhere from 2-4 hours late, not communicate very well, bring his wife who would just try to talk to me while I could barely hear her with work going on, & who never intended to work later when he was that late when I was 37-40 weeks pregnant (due to how long it took him) with a 2 & 3 year old, so this was a breath of fresh air compared to that! I have to be honest, there were a few days where maybe 5-8 tiles were laid that it was a little hard to be patient, but like I said, he saved us a considerable amount of time working right away, & we absolutely loved the final outcome that it was worth the wait! Not to mention, sometimes it can just be uncomfortable having people work in your home when you have to be there & a little nerve-wracking when you can't be, & he made that part an absolute breeze! Incredibly nice, genuine guy-my husband, myself, & my kids all felt that way. :) If I can figure out how to post pictures, I will. :)

Very good work, knowledgeable helpful, came out for estimate, 3 days later did work for us, stayed until completed; not just few hours then came back, but stayed until finished; low mess and dust, cleaned up well. Two days later called to follow up to make sure all was still well, Not many people do that this was excellent; oh he was going to be running late the day he did the work and he called me to tell me he would be running late; great. Yes i will be hiring him again

Mr. Mitchell is a super nice man and a hard worker. He puts his heart into everything he does and ensures that it comes out perfect. At the time he did our job, he was short handed, so it took a while to complete. However, the work was really fantastic.

I recently completed a full remodel of the master bathroom but used a different service provider to install tile on the shower walls and floor, as well install a tile floor in the rest of the bathroom. That service provider didn't slope the shower floor properly so water pooled really bad and wouldn't drain at all. In fact, the water pooled along the curb and had no way to drain without using a squeegee to push the water out. I decided not to call the same provider since I was so upset, instead left him a review appropriate for the job. I bumped into Louis Mitchell through a Deal of the Day email from Angie's List so gave him a call (didn't use the deal of the day special). From the beginning he was polite, professional, and gave me the information I needed without trying to take advantage of my situation (like a couple others here tried to do). Louis came out twice - one day to tear out the previously installed tile floor and re-slope the concrete subfloor; then came back out a week later (my schedule couldn't get him back in earlier) and installed the tile and grout. The water now runs out better than with the old floor pan before the remodel. All looks great and I couldn't be happier. A couple little things I noticed with Louis compared to many other contractors I've used over the years: Louis cleaned up after himself; he worked hard when he was at the house; and explained things to me in detail so I understood why he was doing certain things. While Louis was out I had him quote a bigger job that I'm planning in the next 2 to 3 months. I have no plans on calling anyone else when I'm ready, he has clearly proven how good he is and his professionalism and friendliness can't be beat.

Needed to have our backsplash redone and sealed in our kitchen. A friend used Mr. Mitchell in the past and referred us to him. Mr. Mitchell was courteous, respectful and provided high quality workmanship. He arrived on time, on the day he committed and the overall work was done in a very timely manner. The overall price for the services provided was very good. I will be using Mr. Mitchell in the future for other projects and highly recommend him.

Louis was great to work with. He and his staff did a tremendous job on our bathroom. They are meticulous and very detail oriented. He is an honest man of strong character and we really enjoyed working with him. He is extremely knowledgeable and offered us some excellent advice/insight to make our shower even better than we could have imagined.

Went very well - he is very busy but his work is great and professional.

Louis was initially very responsive with an estimate. We actually had him provide an estimate for both the master and the larger hall bath and planned to use him for both. He began work just a week later. Initially his son came to do the tear out of the first bath. This seemed to go ok even though he was not there for more than a few hours a day and not consecutive days. However from there, the time delays continued to increase. Several days would go by without any work being done. Sometimes Louis would come, but only stay a couple hrs. We were very happy with the quality of his work but were very frustrated about the length of time it took. On multiple occasions we asked him to just give us a realistic end date, which gopher would give a date, but that date would come and go without the work being complete. In the end, it was over 3 months between the time we signed the estimate and the time the bath was completed. In the end, we chose not to use him for the 2nd bath due to the length of time and stress from the first bath experience. There were some misunderstandings or differences of opinion along the way as well, e.g. whether the tub tear out was included or not in estimate, trash haul away, grout purchased for the both baths but gone after first bath, refund of over payment. My recommendation if you use Louis in the future would be to get a very detailed estimate in writing with cost/payment dependent on a delivery timeline. I do want to emphasize that his work was high quality and we are happy with the end product. Just getting to the end was very painful.

Mr. Mitchell is a wonderful man. My Mother passed away a few days after he started our job and Mr. Mitchell, his assistant, Lee and his son, Mark were all so kind during such a difficult time. They showed genuine concern and were so helpful to me. Mr. Mitchell had wonderful ideas for the showers. One was a large walk in with no curb, a bench, and niches to hold shampoo, etc. It was tricky to make the transition from the shower floor to the bathroom floor, but it is done to perfection. He takes great pride in his work, and he should, because he is a true craftsman. Everything was explained in detail and if he had any suggestions we were open to the changes. He and his workman were very polite and always cleaned up each night. He will be coming back to put epoxy grout on our existing kitchen tile. Although we have the grout steam cleaned and sealed it is still very dirty looking. Mr. Mitchell told us what he could do that would make it look brand new. He is also going to be installing blue stone over concrete steps and walkway at my son's house. Mr. Mitchell and Lee were such a pleasure to be around that I miss seeing them! I had an estimate from another company that said we needed all kinds of liners and sealers and when I talked to Mr. Mitchell about that, he said that we were laying the tile on a concrete floor which was best for adhesion and we did not need liners except in the showers. I would highly recommend Mr. Mitchell if you are looking to have wonderful work performed properly.

His communication has been good thus far. He also sent us to a great tile place, where we received help picking out our materials. We will look forward to using him in a month to do the job.
