Mattingly Concrete Inc. is a local, family owned and operated company. Since our start in 1987, we have grown to serve most or all parts of Hamilton, Marion, and Boone Counties with headquarters located in Carmel, Indiana. Generally, our main focus, at Mattingly Concrete Inc., has been residential concrete removal and complete restoration. Mattingly Concrete carries the philosophy that there is always room for renovation and pride of ownership. We strive to deliver a superb product, in a timely fashion, that you can be truly proud of. When schedules matter, we offer a competitive advantage you can count on. We provide outstanding "backstage" support to our field operations that makes projects run smoothly. In the field, we maintain a steady workforce of skilled industry professionals and project managers so that all projects proceed swiftly to conclusion with outstanding results.
Dan Mattingly and his team did an excellent job of designing and constructing a new front porch and walk. He has samples of different concrete applications surrounding his office/shop. We were able to look at the different styles at our convince and it really helped in making a decision. We live in an 83 year older house and was interested in using a concrete design that would compliment the age of our home. Dan helped us with selecting a washed aggregate style that really works. Dan and his team did and great job and did everything right from design, quick construction and clean-up. Mattingly Concrete is a very good construction company.
Description of Work: Installed a new front porch and walk. Rerouted down spouts by putting drains under porch and thereby getting water away form the house. Also, went the extra mile and helped us recycle our old paving bricks which were given to a friend.
Mr. Mattingly is very professional and explains every detail of the work to be performed. His crew showed up on time every scheduled work day. The noise, debris and dust was kept to a minimum. He coordinated his work with the fencing company I had used, as the gate and posts had to be removed temporarily. He checked for hidden/buried utilities prior to beginning. The project was completed on time, it looks marvelous, and in fact, one of my neighbors decided to have nearly identical work done in their backyard. Mr. Mattingly was always available by phone or in person. The job was done on time and on budget. I had other estimates and although they were all within $100 of each other, I am very pleased that I chose this company. I most certainly recommend him and his company as they are the only firm going forward that I will deal with.
Description of Work: MattinglyConcrete removed my old driveway, expanded the turn-around area and installed new concrete with a decorative stamped and colored border.

Having worked with contractors since mid 1980's, there are only three methods of initially searching for and "vetting" a brand new contractor: (1) search the State Of Indiana website to see if they are a valid company and have they files all the required documents with the state of Indiana, his info below: Mattingly Concrete, Inc. - Articles of Incorporation - 01/04/1991 (2) then see if there is any problems reported at the BBB's website with this company Mattingly Concrete, Inc. Phone: (317) 844-3331 View Additional Phone Numbers 15936 Joilet Road , Westfield, IN 46074 On a scale of A+ to F BBB Rating: A+ (3) and finally, check Angie's list to see what other have said about said contractor.

Member.,,sorry to have missed you.I built my own house and knew that I wanted a certain painter to paint my house. I knew that his was a small company and he did excellent work. we talked about the job..a week later I called him to see where we were at on my estimate..imagine that,,he said he was extremely busy and had my number and job in his folder.no problem, one week later..I get my price..he gets the job.I got my wonderful job done.Good thing I didn't hire him based upon the sound of his voice????(his is kinda high pitched and squeaky..not a good attribute for a grown man) he was also not very punctual.(I knew his work and his reputation..I was willing to wait for my estimate .furthermore ,I was still on his list somewhere because he knew that when he came to my house to look at a promising prospect of a job, that he wasn't going to bump into 10 other painters, each chopping each others price to pcs...Oh..and the sound of his voice.Give me a break..maybe call again just to nudge eh?I don't think this is quite called unresponsiveness..a little weak on promptness, but in the time it took to write your critique you could have just called again and maybe "POLITELY" asked about your estimate?..It's our loss on the project..but if you knew the 25 yrs. of solid projects that kept this company going for this long..maybe you would nudge again...

Outstanding customer experience. Dan Mattingly is engaging and highly professional personally and maintains a punctual, polite, and highly skilled crew. They listened to our needs and concerns, designed solutions for the drainage problems we were having, gave good advice when we had bad ideas, and in all respects exceeded our expectations.
Description of Work: Cleared away old asphalt driveway and poured new concrete driveway. They also arranged clean-out of driveway storm drain, eliminated unnecessary driveway curbs, and eliminated depression at the foot of the driveway where rainwater collected.

We had approximately 850 square feet of very badly spalled driveway, sidewalk, and one step replaced by Mattingly Concrete. While Dan Mattingly was the last person to contact me after I put out requests for estimates (HINT: do not use their "Contact Us" area on their web page, just call Dan), he saved us approximately $600 over the middle bid, and $1,700 over the high bid. All contractors were A-rated on Angie's List.Dan's crew, operated by his son, did a great job getting the old concrete removed and the new concrete poured with minimal disturbance to our grass and shrubs. We made sure they avoided two shrubs that have high replacement value, and they did. We had a small amount of reseeding to do, but that was expected. It was a two day job, then we waited a week before we could drive on it.I never thought anyone could get so excited over a new driveway, but our family is thrilled with it. Not only is it beautiful and dramatically improved the appearance of our home, but now when we drive on it, we hear nothing but silence. The old driveway was so trashed that it sounded like driving on a gravel driveway. Also, our neighbors were so impressed with Mattingly Concrete's work for us that they also had their driveway done by them, and it also looks great. Dan struck me as an honest man with integrity, and his crew was very capable. Our short sidewalk was especially nicely shaped and poured to better fit the steps and porch, and is wider than it used to be.In short, we are very happy customers. I would definitely recommend including them among your companies from whom to get estimates.

He researched various drain options, quoted me prices and sent details of their design until we reached agreement on the specific drain (replacing a plastic one that had broken over the years). Installed in concreted to provide a more solid base for the drain than asphalt. Removed section of the asphalt and cleaned up all the debris. Sealed the concrete and the install looks nice. It has developed a crack now, but most concrete does I suppose, hopefully it won't chip/split there.

Dan and his crew showed up promptly at the time we agreed upon. They were all very courteous, professonal, and friendly. They told us it would take a couple of days to complete the job. The crew had the old portion of the driveway removed, hauled away, and the preparation for pouring the new concrete done on the first day. They were incredibly fast, but careful. I didn't think it was possible to be that accurate with a backhoe; none of the original (portion to be left in tact) driveway was damaged, and no basement windows were broken - they were working in very close quarters. By the end of the second day they had completed the job, and the concrete was walkable later that day. The finished surface is very neat and smooth - no crooked or uneven expansion lines. Dan advised us not to drive on it for at least a week. Exactly one day before the end of that week, we had a fairly intense rainstorm. My wife & I are still elated - no more water in the basement, and a wall that won't have to be painted again for many years to come! This was by far the best experience we have ever had with a contractor, and believe me, we have had our share of bad ones. We would not hesitate recommending Mattingly Concrete to anyone. If all contractors were as good as these guys, there would be no need for the BBB or, forgive me, Angies List.
Description of Work: My wife and I live in a single story older brick bungalow. Settling over the the lifespan of our home had left us with a constant water intrusion (basement) problem. We had originally planned to have our entire driveway renovated to allow for proper drainage away from the house, but fell short of the funds to accomplish that. The owner of Mattingly Concrete, Dan, impressively eyeballed us a quote we could handle that would allow for half the width of the driveway to be done, while still providing proper drainage. I typically would have been nervous about getting a quote from someone I never saw measure, or check the grading with a level, but the friend that referred me to him said he was that good. I trust my friend; he is a general contractor, and not easily impressed. He told me Mattingly Concrete could work magic, and he was right.

This project was the result of the city causing a problem after the main street in our neighborhood had been resurfaced. The street looked very nice; however, with the way it was resurfaced, residents' cars were bottoming out as they backed out of their driveways and, obviously causing wear and tear on the vehicles. I called the Department of Public Works, and a project manager was sent out. When I (and a few of my neighbors) met with him, I showed him how my car bottomed out when backing out of my driveway. He acknowledged the problem, but after going through the powers that be, in the end DPW was not willing to fix the problem. (Our neighborhood is on the list for sidewalk and curb repair, but with no idea of when that will happen--could be years!) Dan Mattingly had done driveway work on my neighbor's driveway and sidewalk and it was beautiful! I called and e-mailed Dan a few times before he got back with me to draw up a proposal. He tried to work with another client in my neighborhood so that it would be more cost effective for me. Dan was successful in doing this. When we connected to go over the final details of the project, he wrote out the proposal as soon as we finished our discussion. Work began that same day. Time was of the essence, as I needed to get this work done before the weather prohibited doing the concrete work properly. Dan was on top of everything! The entire project was completed in less than a week. Dan and his crew were polite, friendly, professional and EXTREMELY COMPETENT! They were ready to go the extra mile to help me keep the area protected until everything was dry. The driveway restoration looks GREAT! The restored aggregate matches our existing aggregate almost perfectly (and the existing driveway is over 10 years old)! The restored sidewalk areas look wonderful and match up to the existing sidewalk so it doesn't look out of place. The curb area looks terrific! This area was particularly difficult because it had to be done to eliminate the bottoming out of cars while keeping the newly resurfaced street in tact. Dan knew how to solve the problem, and it worked out beautifully. Sealing the existing driveway along with the restored areas gave everything the same look. (This was not part of the original plan. Dan gave me a good price to go ahead and do it. I'm so glad I did!) It is unfortunate that I had to pay out of pocket to get the problem caused by the Department of Public Works fixed, but at least Dan Mattingly knew how to get the job done right! I couldn't be happier with the way this project turned out!
Description of Work: Complete removal and restoration of approximately 194 sq. ft. of driveway and sidewalk area. Compete removal of approximately 18 ft. of curbing. 75 sq. ft. of driveway restored in aggregate form. All other areas restored in vanilla concrete w/ brush texture. Sealers included. Miscellaneous patching of approximately 6 ft. of curbing. All jointing to match existing. Seal the existing aggregate driveway.
They do a great job and are experts in their field. I absolutely would never use anyone else. They did a great job pouring my concrete and I couldn't be happier. The patio was poured last year and the driveway was just completed this summer. I recommend them to anyone every chance I get.

Sometimes trades people get buried in estimates and working...hard to get back with everyone. Its hard to admit that a company does not have an interest in EVERY job..its even harder to tell a client that their job is one of those...most times I am told that I am one of the four or five estimates that a homeowner is obtaining.

I left a message on the Company VM on Friday evening, Nov. 12, 2010. The call was returned at 8 a.m. on Mon. Nov. 15; Mr. Mattingly was at outr honme at 8:40; we agreed on terms that morning; work began Tuesday morning with the removal of the old material. The sub-base was prepared on Wednesday; concrete was poured on Thursday; clean-up was done on Friday; due to temperatures, the concrete did not sufficiently cure to do the sealing until Saturday; final touches were done on Monday, Nov. 22.
Description of Work: Removal of approximately 1600 sf. of driveway (one layer of concrete and 2 layers of asphalt), laying of 36 tons of #53 stone; laying of new driveway consisting of 4-5.5" of 4000 psi, fiber reenforced concrete with continuous rebar placed in concrete along both edges; 3 1/2" curb along a portion of one side to control drainage onto adjoining property; mechanically sawn control joints; sealing of entire surface; placement of fill dirt along edges. In addition, removal and replacement of four panels of concrete sidewalk.

Decorative tile started cracking and shifting within 3 months on the surface of the new porch. Mattingly sent someone to cut out a few of the then cracked tile and replace in April 2004. Very messy as they used a concrete saw. Over time the brick facade has shifted at least 4 inches at the base and chunks of mortar are falling into the grass. Within 3 months of replicating porch water again made its way into the basement wall and plaster is bowed and crumbling. Manhole cover size bulges of plaster. When I could no longer ignore the deteroriation of the porch, I started calling Mattingly in February 2010. Left at least 8 messages and spoke to him once in spring 2010. He promised to look at my porch within 3 weeks but never came. He showed up about 4 weeks ago unannounced and agreed that the tile was "really messed up on top". He snorted around and spooked me. He admitted he was intentionally not taking my calls but said he had a concrete job down the street on Meridian and he would "repair" my porch in June. He promised to come by in the meantime (within the last month) to remove a decorative tile so that he would have the dimensions in order to secure replacement tile. (there are at least 30 broken 6X6 in. tile of 200 total inlaid on the top of the porch, others are freely moving so no longer inlaid). Mold is growing on one third of the concrete surface as it holds water so pitch is toward the house. It stays wet and moldy and black all year. He said there was no problem with the masonry porch facade shifting several inches and falling in the grass. Huh? I did not even mention the crumbling interior wall as I don't want him in my house. I have before and after pictures to prove this sad saga. And the receipt and original work order.
Description of Work: Front concrete and masonry porch was excavated and rebuilt as original as dictated by historic preservation guidelines. We have had perpetual crumbling plaster wall problems that extend the length of the front porch and were told that water was getting in where the porch abutted the house. Hired Dan Mattingly concrete to remove existing concrete porch replicate original. Decorative ceramic tile was inlaid in concrete to replicate the 90 year old porch that needed replacement. I had taken pictures of the original porch as I had to get approval from Meridian Street Preservation Commission to proceed with the work. I had purchased the decorative outdoor tile in advance of the project and Mattingly Concrete had agreed to clean and reuse original masonry brick facade. The scope of work included existing concrete porch removal and new "whatever goes under a huge poored concrete porch to support it". I did not try to cosmetically fix an original concrete. I paid for a built from scratch, new historically appropriate patent porch that exends the entire length of my 3 story home on the front. The only person that uses this porch is the mailman so I have never subjected this porch to anything that would break the tile.
