Provider was asked to quote on a project ( a block of 3 small concrete steps at the back of my house 5 foot wide ) He came out on a friday & said he would send a quote on monday , i had to follow up with him 3 separate times asking for a quote ! When he finally sent a QUOTE it was for $3200 ! i had also received 3 other quotes from other contractors for $1000-$1200 , so i wouldn't recommend him , he seems like a contractor that wants to cherry pick only the big dollar projects & not general small to medium size jobs.

[Removed mbr name], Thanks for your interest in our company. Of course how we run and manage our company reflects on how people hear about us in the first place. We usually support anywhere from 10-12 full time employees annually. These are a group of men and women that put food on their families tables. We are a small group but we pay our employees well for the expertise they are acquired through their years in the field. That again, is something that shows in the quality of our work. To compare our price with someone that may not have the overhead that we do is ok, but please, before making harsh assessments, remember to compare apples to apples. As far as a hasty return for your phone calls go, I do apologize for any miscommunication that may have transpired during that period in time. We are constantly working on the customer service end of things around here. I hope your project went off without a hitch and everything probably looks great. Thanks again for your interest. Regards, Will Mattingly

Yes sir we are to busy right now to provide you with an estimate. We never told you that we only bid on big jobs and as a matter of fact we were very polite both in person and on the phone. Next time maybe think twice about asking a contractor if they are cheap when you are getting a free estimate. Thanks
Company was able to come out right away in early spring to meet and provide estimate. I had a couple of questions later and Chris was very quick to answer them for me. Actual pour of the patio was about a month and a half out from there, partially from having to wait for HOA approval and partially the company's schedule. Workers arrived on time and introduced themselves and stated what they would be doing that day. Steps were taken to minimize damage to the lawn. However, it was very soggy so more damage was done than we would have liked but really could not be avoided due to wet ground conditions. The workers cleaned up well that day and returned the next to finish and seal the patio. The only negative really was dealing with payment. The contract stated half was due upon excavation and the other half upon completion but no one asked for a check the first day. When the worker finished the next day with sealing, he then asked for full payment. So that was a little unexpected especially since I was not 100% sure if they were coming the next day or two days later to seal and I might not have been home at the time of completion. Luckily it all worked out. We were promptly emailed an invoice for the payment we made the next day and overall had a wonderful experience. We're already received many great comments about our patio.
Description of Work: Excavated approx 400 sq feet and hauled away debris. Poured approx 15' x 26' stamped concrete patio (including subgrade and rebar along edges) in slate pattern with gray antique release powder and sealer.

Chris was punctual and professional and two days later on the 26th I actually received an email with the estimate attached. We had some trouble getting our project approved by our HOA and I was unable to get back to Chris (although I did call the office and left a message for him) until the 26th of April. Chris informed us that our estimate expired on the 24th and they would be happy to give us another estimate for the work- along with their current price increase! Needless to say, I gave Mattingly Concrete the opportunity to perform the work at the original estimate, with no response. Very poor customer service, will caution people who think about utilizing their services.

Just like any other industry pricing can change at any time. This is why it says "void if not signed within 30 days." This is to caution customers who do not call within that time frame that pricing may change, as I am positive other companies have as well. Sorry that you were surprised, but with all do respect, reading the entire document may benefit you next time. Other than that it looks like you had a very pleasant interaction with our company.

The contractor came and was very courteous, friendly and professional. We discussed options for my concrete patio from a range of prices and discussed a final option that was decorative and in my budget. The contractor stated that he would draw up a design and email me a proposal/estimate for the job. The next day I received an email that surprised me. It basically stated that "do to their work load they would be unable to service my project." This seemed totally weird because I indicated that I wanted a patio prior to them coming out to do an estimate and the contractor gave no impression that they would not be able to do the job. I could understand if they said it will be 3 weeks before they could get started or some time frame. However to just state they were too booked to do it was very unprofessional and frankly, made me wonder what the real reason was. (Was the job too small? Not a big enough ticket item? ????) They wasted my time and the contractor's time. In my business, if I know I can't take on new clients, I tell them that up front.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please keep in mind that we do not always know what our clients have in mind until we speak in person. It is not always within a companies best interest to take on every single project that is thrown at them. If we did then we would never be able to keep up with our work load. Also during our busiest season it is not feasible to send a crew an hour away for such a small project. Also I believe we showed up to your appointment on time and responded to all your inquiries in a timely manner (within 24 hours) so I am not sure why we earned such a poor grade in punctuality.

*UPDATE* In response to this provider's "response", that they have no record of doing business with the person who's name is on our Angie's List account -- That is because the Angie's List account is in my husbands name, and this provider dealt with me. This review is 100% factually correct. -- Let me started by saying that I hate that I have to leave this review. Unfortunately, this service provider left me no choice. I contacted Mattingly Concrete for a quote on concrete work we needed to have done at our house. This included the driveway, sidewalks, and the front porch. Mattingly's initial quote was the second highest of the initial bunch we received, and after one provider lowered their quote, was the highest. However, I was impressed with the work that Mattingly showed off on their website, and I felt good speaking with the two estimators that came out to our house. One of the estimators, Will Mattingly, was who I initially spoke with, and who I spoke with after the quote. This is the first time we've ever done any concrete work, and therefore I had a number of questions about how the job would be done, materials, and etc. I asked Will numerous questions, I will admit, and he seemed happy to answer them (at that time). Price was still a factor, and Will was able to negotiate a bit with me after seeing a couple of other of the written quotes we had received. I appreciated this. I was ready to agree to have Mattingly Concrete do the work, when we received a personal recommendation for another concrete company that we had not previously spoken with. Because this was a personal recommendation, we felt like it would not hurt to speak with this other company and get one final quote. We met with this other company, and they had lots of great ideas for our project. We really got a great feeling about them, and frankly they do have a better rating (more ratings) here on Angie's List than Mattingly. I also negotiated a bit with this other company, and they lowered their price to match Mattingly - while including some additional work that Mattingly was not going to do. We decided ultimately to go with this final company, and I was tasked with informing the companies that we did not select. I emailed Will to let him know we had decided to use someone else. I thanked him for his time, and wished him the 'best of luck' and hoped he had a busy upcoming concrete season. This is where things broke down, and the reason why I was forced to write this review. Will responded that he was glad they were able to educate me on concrete when 'my choice contractor wasn't'. He then stated he would be invoicing me for 2 office hours. Huh? Invoicing me for two office hours?! Sure enough, 10 minutes later I received an invoice for 2.5 hours of office consultation. $120.00, for their "time". I sent a couple of follow-up emails, and now of course Will would no longer respond. The company was at this point hiding behind their generic "info" (info@) email address, with no names attached to what they were saying. They accused me of having a lack of respect for a service provider, by apparently asking so many questions and then not choosing them in the end. They accused me of 'wasting their time' with 'incessant questioning'. I was FULLY PREPARED to leave Mattingly Concrete a positive review on Angie's List for taking their time to come out and quote our job, and answer my questions, just as I did last night for another company who came out and quoted for us. I was fully prepared to recommend Mattingly to others, and fully prepared to use Mattingly in the future, if I ever needed more concrete work done at some point down the road. But, then they sent that email, and invoice, and forced me to write this long-winded negative review, instead. Frankly, I think we dodged a bullet here by not selecting Mattingly Concrete. If this is the kind of company they are, then I am glad we did not end up selecting them. We were VERY close to selecting Mattingly. I fear what could have happened if we had selected them and something went wrong during the project. So, fellow Angie's Listers, beware. Your 'free quote' from this company might turn into a $120.00 bill for wasting their time. This reflects so poorly on their character. It makes me sad.
Description of Work: Quoted concrete work to be done at our home. Decided they were going to invoice me for their 'time' after we decided to go with another provider. Sent me an invoice for $120 for their 'time' -- when all I agreed to was a free quote. BEWARE. If you ask them too many questions and don't select them to do your job their "free quote" might turn into an invoice for a $120.00 office consultation!

Overall, the work was well done and the young man who completed the work was very polite (Mr. Mattingly's son). I got 3 estimates from various Angie's lIst "A" rated concrete driveway companies. Mattingly's quote was in the middle of the 3 and I was surprised by the differences in price among the 3. Just goes to show how important getting several quotes can be. Mattingly was the only one who indicated he would provide a 5 inch slab and use rebar. The crew was very professional and the work was well executed. I am very pleased with the quality and appearance of the driveway. I would definitely recommend them.

As you can see from the "after" photos, this work transformed our patio from an eyesore to a wonderful entertainment space! We are so satisfied with the project's outcome. The ramped sidewalk provides easy access for all our guests and keeps their feet clean and dry. The wall cap (which another bidder said would be too expensive to do) really transformed the aging wall. In addition to the work that was contracted to be done, Dan's team also built a set of steps for us that we had not originally anticipated, replaced an existing door slab rather than just tying the walkway into it, and brought in dirt when the project was done to dress up the transition from the yard to the new walk. (They also used their bobcat to move a large boulder for me.) The concrete work was completed in three days, the final seal coat in one. I really believe that Dan and his crew cared as much about the outcome of this project as my wife and I did. They obviously take great pride in their work. (Unfortunately, Dan was not always the easiest guy to reach, hence the "B" in responsiveness.) The biggest issue that we encountered, and this is not Dan's fault, was in understanding how the color of finished concrete is achieved. As we eventually learned, there are four parts: the base color of the concrete, the color of the releasing agent used in the stamping process, the color of any stain (if one is used), and the color introduced by the sealing agent. My wife and I were really taken by the beauty of some of the projects Dan has completed (see the Mattingly web site and displays at his office), but it became clear that the outcome is not all that predictable. Given that there are even variations in the concrete alone, any project is at least one part art and one part luck. In the end, we settled on basic concrete with a basic gray release. Once sealed it was perfect for our needs! Lastly, be aware of downspout issues and utility wire issues when planning your project. Dan's crew buried two downspout lines and a conduit for CATV/U-verse/phone lines under the new sidewalk. They might have done this entirely on their own, but it never hurts to be proactive.
Description of Work: Mattingly Concrete applied a stamped, concrete cap to both levels of our old patio - one part had already been stripped of its old brick veneer leaving an irregular but solid slab, the other was a combination of brick veneer and an old hot tub pad. Capping the old patio rather than tearing it out provided a significant cost savings over hardscape. They also built a stamped sidewalk, replacing some awful steps, from the patio to the drive. Lastly, they also capped the original patio wall. I've included both before pictures and after pictures.
It went great. We got many estimates and Mattingly's was right in the middle, but I got a good feeling from him, in terms of returning calls, stopping by when he said he would, and just generally seeming like a straight shooter. We negotiated a bit over the price an he was reasonable?I added a patch of section that originally had not been part of the estimate, and he "swapped" it for a section of the driveway curb which HE noted (not me) didn't really need to be replaced. In other words, saved me a few hundred bucks and cost himself, in the interest of being fair. The guys showed up on time, were courteous and seemed hardworking. Dan Mattingly was around on and off, checking in with us about things and supervising. Everything was done within the time frame indicated, and at EXACTLY the estimated cost -- nothing like "Oh, we had to charge you a little extra for x, y, and z." The driveway looks great; the decorative porch, in particular, is beautiful, and the steps (which had been crumbling and getting a bit dangerous) are now functional and attractive. I would feel very comfortable using Mattingly again, and recommend him and his team.
Description of Work: Tear out existing our old driveway, which was old, well-used, and badly rutted, and pour a new one. Also tear out a crumbling brick patio and steps and replace with a new porch of stamped concrete.

Mattingly concrete did a great job. I didn't know much about cement and asked about different textures and cement colors. They sent me to their office where I could look at over 15 different sample areas around their property as well as samples in books.. Actually seeing, touching and feeling the cement helped me pick out the right cement for our backyard. Mattingly concrete met at our appointed time, gave me some great suggestions, offered to also make cement steps the shame shape as our patio and submitted an estimate with a couple of options...stamping or plain cement. The Mattingly crew were very professional. Dan would call and let me know when the crew was coming to our house and they laid down boards on our lawn to protect the grass. I love the final product. The patio is 2 toned with a glazed protective coat. Also they accepted the Angie's list coupon which saved us $100.00. I would highly recommend Mattingly concrete!

Dan Mattingly came out and gave the estimate. Work started on steps, sidewalk, and retaining wall promptly and was completed in 4 days. The driveway was done last and took 5 days. It looks great ! They also installed drain tile under driveway to catch two gutter-dischare down spouts and take water from eves to street. The crew was excellent and hard working. Mr. Mattingly was very responsive and returned all calls promptly. I would highly recommend Mattingly Concrete. I also got a 5% discount with a coupon they offered on Angie"s List.

Dan gave us a free estimate and explained how he would complete the job. We accepted Dan's bid because he took time explain in detail what he was going to do. Dan's bid was the middle bid out of three different bids. Work started on 6/28 and finished on 7/1. Work crew did an outstanding of taking out old concrete and hauling away it away. They answered all of questions, and they worked very carefully around the flowers and bushes. They did an excellent job of cleaning up the area once they completed the job. They returned on 7/2 to place dirt around the work area, and they asked if everything was ok. We are very satisfied with their work and we recommend anyone who needs concrete work on their house to give Dan a call.
