It wasn't what I was expected. They did this digital thing but didn't give me any good ideas. They didn't listen to what I was looking for so it was pretty much totally worthless.

Our frustration is absolutely immeasurable when we see a report like this pop up over 2 years after our visit with the client in February of 2011. We can only guess that Angie's List is giving away a gift card of some sort to generate reports because these very old reports start popping up when they give something away. Regardless, this member had us out to her home and here are our exact notes from the visit: She had been in the house for 6 years, she wants to keep her 1930's cabinets (with the doors falling off of several of them) because she likes "old things" and collects antiques (her words, not ours)... she wants to keep her existing black and white floor, she doesn't like Formica tops and thinks she wants wood countertops, likes a white porecelain sink, wants to change 2 light fixtures and hang something vintage, she wants a white subway tile backsplash and a specific color of "1930's green" paint on the walls and she wants us to put tile on a range wall. Now, those were our exact notes from the conversation. So, what did we do? We priced doing those exact things exactly as we were asked. When we suggested that she might want to consider adding a range hood because of the specific design of her kitchen had no ventilation over her range, she said no. That was fine, but we asked the question so we could make her aware of the situation she had. We don't know what she is referring to regarding electrical service because we never discussed electrical service. And yes, we did provide her with a layout of her kitchen in an effort to be nice and helpful, even though the elements being priced did not require a drawing. It is a bit disconcerting to read 2 years later that we didn't listen and our efforts were worthless. We listen extremely well, take detailed notes... and if we didn't... I wouldn't have been able to rewrite our conversation and tell you she wanted 1930's green paint on her walls and white subway tile. If you call us and consider our company for your project, we will take the same type of detailed notes. We will do our very best at maximizing your design, but only to the extent that you direct us to do so based on our conversation we have with you. So, you can be sure we won't design a $50,000 kitchen for a $20,000 budget. We understand that if we help you get what you want within your stated budget, then there is a chance we will get what we want... the opportunity to work with you on the project! Please forgive us for the frustration with this report, but we work so hard to do a good job and take care of people, we feel the need to reply and defend ourselves when a report like this is posted.

I bought an Angie's Big Deal which only included getting a quote from them. I later found out most people don't even charge you to give you a quote. They're very professional and send out notification emails. We decided not to do the remodeling right now. We had a very nice talk with them.

Just a polite clarification, a member taking advantage of the special Angie's List offer for a kitchen design receive a full kitchen design with floor plans and elevations showing each area of cabinets in 3-D. As a courtesy and part of the design process, we provide pricing for the project. There certainly are companies that will do a free quote in the marketplace, but the consumer is not likely to receive copies of full designs that took several hours to create and they won't receive accurate pricing tied to a specific design. We are a professional remodeling company with a staff of employees that work in your homes. Additionally, we have a full service, one stop shop showroom where you can see everything in one place. Given that some of our competitors charge several hundred to a few thousand dollars for the same service we offer Angie's List members for $75... we are comfortable that the price is very fair. We are losing money on the front end design process with this offer based on the many hours we spend, but it gives us a wonderful opportunity to meet with you and show you what we have to offer as your potential partner. In the end, our goal is to work with you on your project. We just wanted to clarify what takes place for the $75 design charge.

Lifestyle Group was great to work with. They listened to what we wanted and liked and then provide their professional opinion to help us achieve our goal. They took the time to educate us on the materials, options, and some things to watch out for or to avoid.
Description of Work: Lifestyle Group came to our home to meet with us about designs and ideas for remodeling our kitchen. They were punctual, professional and courteous. They listened to what we wanted and provided great insight to help us better realize the potential of our kitchen. We met them at their office/showroom and they walked through the details of our design plan, described the different materials and options, and discussed how the elements of the design work together. In all, they gave us a better understanding of how to begin planning our kitchen remodel.

This was an Angie's Big Deal to provide consultation and plans to remodel mater bathroom. The people at Lifestyles were very nice and knowledgable. An initial visit to measure and assess the bathroom was scheduled. The visit started on time and was very thorough. The master bath was an unusual configuration making the remodeling a challenge. Questions about remodeling preferences were asked and various options were discussed. The data gathered would need to be evaluated and a plan created. A few days later we met at the Lifestyle offices. The plans were very detailed and took into account the preferences stated in the first meeting. Options for the remodel were discussed as well as the materials to be used. The folks at Lifestyle knew their business. Their ideas were very creative and the materials presented were over a wide price range allow for budgeting of the project. Unfortunately, the price was more than the budget would allow. This was no fault of Lifestyle but my own lack of knowledge of thecost of remodeling. I would definately recommend Lifestyle for remodeling projects. The staff is responsive, knowledgable and creative.

Today I have a crew here to install the door. However, I was surprised to learn there is electricity running through the wall, so now my low-cost project just got really, really expensive! Had I know about this issue, I would NOT have done this project. Of course, the contractors had already cut a hole through the drywall, so my choices were, hire a dry waller to repair the damage or pay more to have the electric rerouted and the door installed. This company's poor design plan cost me an extra $300. Why did I pay them $60 again? I would NOT recommend this company to people who are seeking plans for a project they plan to get other bids on. This company is charging a "trip charge" and plans to offer you their services. They'll ask you to come to their showroom to talk about it first. This is not just "plans" to build, it's a sales job that covers their trip charge!
Description of Work: Hired company to draw up plans for my guest bathroom. The main objective was to add another door to an existing bathroom to create a "Jack and Jill" situation. The company was very busy but the owner did make it out, took measurements and after two weeks I called to ask where my plans were. He had emailed them to a non-existant account. Worse, it was just a bid for his company to do the project, not detailed plans that would enable me to hire my own contractor. After calling him again, he did send plans.

Response from Lifestyle Group Residential Remodeling
This reply is being written by Geoff Horen, the CEO of The Lifestyle Group... I am the person who personally visited her home to look at this project. This member has a very distorted view of this situation. We were asked to visit her home for a bathroom project, like we do for hundreds of other families annually. We were indeed very busy at the time she called (as she suggested) and we were unable to run out the very next day, but when she told us she had been recovering from a significant medical condition, we made it a point to fit her into our schedule quickly to help her. Not only that, but I told her I would email the price information because she was unable to drive to our office for the second visit. When I arrived at her home, she took me to a very small upstairs bathroom off a spare bedroom. When you walk in the bathroom and look to the left, there was a small 24" vanity and a very tight space for a toilet, because the bathroom was only 52" wide. Then, if you looked to your right when you entered the bathroom, you saw a small shower that wasn't being touched. When you look straight ahead when entering the bathroom, you see a blank wall. The request of the client was to simply put a door in that blank wall so you could enter the bathroom from the other bedroom. Seemed quite simple. That was her idea of a design. I told her it was definitely possible. No problem on our end... it isn't uncommon that we look at a project where very few changes can or will be made. So, we priced to install that door to connect the other bedroom... and we priced to move an outlet in that other bedroom. Also, per request we priced a new vanity cabinet at her request. We even informed her that her current vanity size was actually against code because it was 3" too large and did not leave the proper space for the stool... to which she replied that she was not surprised because Carmel High School students built her house as a class / high school project. I said if you have lived with it for 17 years and want the same size vanity that you have, it shouldn't be a problem. Let me be extremely clear...this was not a traditional bathroom remodel design. The shower wasn't being touched. The stool wasn't being changed or moved. This was simply a door installation with a price for a new vanity. We gave her a menu of pricing for flooring and painting in the bathroom as well. When we talk about creating an opening in any wall, I ALWAYS tell the prospective client that we do not have X-Ray vision... so we don't know what is hidden in a wall. But in this case... I knew an outlet needed to be moved... and I priced to move it as part of the door project! I am not at all surprised that there was electrical in the wall where she wanted to create a pass through. I told her there was! To draw this to conclusion, when we first sent the original email, she did not receive it. So, she did follow up with us shortly after she expected it and we resent the original information moments after hearing from her... the same day. Then, she went ballistic because she expected a computer "design". I politely explained that since it was a 4' x 5' bathroom space and nothing was moving, we did not create a computer design, but I would be happy to do so. We did it that evening and she had it in her hands the next morning. All of that took place... 3-1/2 months ago! And, now we get this crazy report. Maybe if she had hired us, she wouldn't have had these problems... because someone else is doing the work and now she is having challenges. We are an "A-rated" company with Super Service Provider Awards every year since 1999. We don't mislead people. We tell them everything we can possibly tell them when we are at the home during the first visit so they are as informed as they can be, regardless of whether or not we are selected to be a partner on the project. However, there are occasions when a potential client chooses not to effectively listen. Given her report, this is clearly the case. If she revisits the pricing from us she was provided, she will see that we put IN WRITING that electrical had to be moved. Our price included that. Apparently, her selected contractor did not see what I saw and what I priced for.

Getting the plans for a kitchen remodel was worth the experience and gave me some good ideas to consider. Even though I elected to go another route, I am using the plans and ideas I formed in the process.
Description of Work: Plans only for a kitchen remodel. The visit to their showroom to view plans and products was a good experience and their plans are extremely nice. However, the "sticker shock" drove me to look for competitive pricing with other suppliers. After looking at other options, I chose to go no further with this company.

I then went to Lifestyle Group's office to meet with Geoff to go over the plans. He had some great ideas and walked through his proposed plans with me. He also showed me some items in his showroom. His price was right on point with what we expected and his design was great. My husband and I plan to use Lifestyle group to get the renovations done -- We are just not ready to begin yet. But we were impressed with Lifestyle and thought they would do a great job and keep us in line with what we wanted to spend.
Description of Work: I used an Angie's List deal to have Lifestyle Group prepare some proposed remodeling plans for our kitchen. Geoff came out to our house and spent some time with me in discovering what we wanted to do with our kitchen. He was very helpful in explaining to me how Lifestyle Group worked and what kind of ideas he had to remodel our kitchen. Our kitchen is in need of more than just an update and my husband and and I want to take down some walls to accomplish the remodel job. This was no problem for Geoff.

We were not in the market for having our kitchen remodeled right away, but were trying to get some ideas on what should be done. The owner of Lifestyle Group, Greg Horen, came to our house and took measurements and photos. He was very helpful and professional. Approximately one or two weeks later, we met with Greg and his sister at the Lifestyle Group office where they showed us the drawings and discussed various options with us. We told them at the time we were just trying to get some ideas for remodeling our kitchen but were not in the market for doing it in the near future. They were very professional and did an excellent job explaining options. The experience was very positive.

Bought the Big Deal and they were great to work with, very professional, yet down to earth and friendly. They knew we might be scheduling the work in a year or two, but still addressed the project and our needs effectively. The appoinments were confirmed prior and we met as scheduled each time. The office meeting to review the estimate and drawings went well and was helpful and easy to follow along with Geoff. When our grandson is a little older we will finish the basement and this group will be in the mix for consideration as our contractor.
