He responded promptly to my call. Made an immediate appointment, arrived on time, supplied report the next day. And the report was very extensive.

From the first call Kidwell was great to deal with. He was very accommodating on the phone and outlined pricing and what we would receive in return. He was available quickly which wasn't the case with each of the companies that I called. We are helping our son buy his first home and so our son met him at the site (we did not) but our son was very comfortable with him and felt that he was very thorough. The report was emailed to us later in the same day and was great -- a lot of detail along with the photos and easy to read and understand -- even though I wasn't present for the inspection. I thought that his pricing was great and would definitely use him again

I was extremely pleased with thoroughness of the inspection and the detail of the report I received. John had so many photos I felt I had been in the attic & crawl space myself and it gave me piece of mind in buying my new home. He took the time to answer all questions I had and also provided me with information for maintaining my home for the future. It was excellent. He was very thorough. Took a lot of pictures and created a very nice book. He was little late because his computer went down, but he gave me a discount.

John was easy to reach by phone and came to inspect the home multiple times during its construction and in a timely manner. If i had questions during the process it was nice to be able to call john and ask his opinion on aspects of building. He found issues that were good to get fixed before they became a problem and cost issue for us. I do recommend Kidwell and would use him again.

Kidwell conducted a home inspection, including a termite inspection, and certified in a written report that there was no evidence of wood destroying insects. This spring, we contracted with another Angie's List contractor to perform repairs on our screened-in porch. That contractor discovered extensive termite damage in the porch. We brought in an exterminator to inspect and treat the damage. He stated that the infestation was at least ten years old and that external evidence of the damage was present and would have been present when Kidwell performed the inspection. We had to have our porch substantially rebuilt and paid for very expensive termite treatment to the whole house. We contacted Kidwell in writing twice and stated that we believed that Kidwell was responsible for failing to detect the termite damage and for the expense we incurred in treating it. It was extremely disappointing to us that they failed entirely to respond to two letters.

We had him do an inspection of a house in May we were preparing to buy. He turned up a number of severe problems that we didn't even see that would have cost tens of thousands to repair. We passed on that house and a couple of months later, found another. He came out to inspect and we discovered that, despite what we had been told, the water wasn't hooked up to the house, so he couldn't do the complete inspection. He gave us a partial report that allowed us to have the seller fix some of the issues. When the water was turned on and the leak he'd found during the first inspection was fixed, he went out to reinspect and found some additional problems. He gave us a completed report and only charged us as though he'd only had to go out once to complete one report. He gave us lots of info on home and septic tank maintenance and was very thorough. We just closed on the 2nd house he inspected.

Inspection took about 1 1/2-2 hrs, everything went well.

I had some flooding in my basement area in June. I had to get someone out to my home to try to advise me and tell me what I needed to do to correct this situation. I called this company and they came out. John Kidwell, the owner, made a thorough evaluation of the situation and made excellent recommendations in terms of a solution to my problem. Also, he sent me a list of people that might be able to correct my problem. He was very professional and arrived on time. He was extremely helpful and I would recommend him strongly. He did an outstanding job. If I need this type of assistance again, I will certainly give John Kidwell a call.

Mr. Kidwell was very friendly, professional, and offered many helpful suggestions on things he noticed about the house. The report he submitted was very well done and well photo-documented.

John was great to work with. He was on time and did a very thorough inspection. The inspection report was fantastic, with great descriptions and pictures. It was a great experience.

I called John to set up an appointment early in the week and he was able to get the inspection scheduled within my time requests. He called to confirm it was a go days before the appointment and was there before we got there (we were running a few minutes late). He welcomed myself and my family who accompanied me. He gave a lot of wonderful tips, background information, and went over the different deficiencies we are now addressing with the buyers. Overall it was a wonderful experience and he has since provided me with documents and literature to help me as a first time home owner.

Very professional. Punctual. Spent 1-2 hrs and did a general inspection. For what I paid, it was okay..even though not as in depth as in past. I appreciated the owner's effort in ensuring that I recieved the report before my mtg with the builder-he drove it out to my home the eve before when it hadn't shown up in mail. Definitely went the extra mile! The report was presented in a very professional binder...

John is wonderful! He answered all of our questions and explained, in great detail, what he was doing and why. We couldn't be happier!

I am absolutely impressed with John's work. He has done my son's house as well as a house for one of my client's and he is the best.

Very poor. My wife called to set up an apointment and she said it was for the 23rd at 11am. No one came. I called and John said no, he had it for the 30th in his appointment list. OK, communication error on our part. On the 30th, 11am came and went. No one showed up and no calls. I called his number at 12noon and left a message asking what happened and asking him to call. As of 5:25pm no call and no one showed up. Very POOR customer service. Will not use nor recommend.

I arrived after the halfway point of his inspection. I didn't feel that I needed to watch him on the roof and in the attic. He went over everything with me and showed me the pictures that he took. He was also very helpful in showing me ways to save money for chimney cleaning, roof repairs, and insulation. I walked away with a lot more knowledge then I expected. I highly recommend John for any job! He is very detailed which isn't my style so I recommend coming towards the end of the inspection if you are short on time. I prefer having detailed inspectors!

John did a great job at a fair price. He took excellent photos. He has up to the date tools. (A very cool heat sensing thingy that I had to have until he told me it cost $2500!.) He took plenty of time with me going around the house and pointing out everything. (I got there just as he was finishing up.) He emailed a copy of the report within 1 day with photos and followed up with hard copy the next week.

The experience was great. John did get there earlier than we did. But from his report we could tell that he did in fact inspect the outside of the house. He told us everything that he saw and told us helpful ways that we could fix or improve the situation. He was very friendly. Let us ask him any question and had great answers for us. The only issue we had was he sent his report to the wrong email address, but I do have sloppy handwriting. The report he gave us was detailed and contained a number of pictures that we didnt even realize he had taken. So even if we hadnt take notes we can go into the report and look and see what he had to say. He also gave us a homeowners packet that contained help tips on maintaining the house. I would definitley recomend him to any one!

Very well. John was very prompt and did a thorough job of inspecting the house we were set to purchase. The report was very extensive and caught a number of issues that we were able to address with the seller prior to closing.

John did a GREAT job. We could not be at the property when he went out for the inspection. He went out in the freezing cold and found all kinds of things we had no idea were in need of repair. He did a very detailed inspection report and gave us some tips on what could be done for a reasonable price. When all was said and done, we were very satisfied with the service that John perform on our home. I would recommend him to anyone who is new to this type of thing.

Our realtor referred us to John. At first, he was very friendly and appeared to be knowledgeable about what hew was doing. He took tons of pictures and put together a very nice book to review so we could make our decision on purchasing the home. But that is where the good experiences stop. (It should be noted that my realtor was kind enough to purchase us a home warranty for the house.) He inspected the house in the beginning of January, we closed on the loan at the end of January, and we moved in at the beginning of March due to prior lease obligations. From the time we bought the home to when we moved in, we kept all of the essential utilities going (heat, electricity, water) as we did some basic touch-ups in the house (painting the bathrooms, installing curtain rods and curtains, blinds, changing out all of the locks, etc). We never used any of the showers until we moved into the house in early March. On the very first night of living in the home, we discovered that there was a cracked PVC pipe in the shower that the inspector would have caught if he had actually run the shower in the hallway like he was supposed to during his inspection. 80 gallons of water in my basement later (a lot of it cascaded over my gas water heater) and I was on the phone with the warranty company to see if they could send someone out. The plumber that came out was very surprised to see that the pipe was cracked from the install of the shower. He said they usually only crack in the winter due to low temperatures. Considering that the warranty company never would have paid the claim if the pipe had cracked due to freezing shows that the pipe was cracked before the inspection. Another thing John missed was the uncapped and illegal drain vent coming from the kitchen sink. It was within 10 feet from our gas furnace. Thank goodness for our home owner's warranty that we didn't have to pay out more than $350 hundred dollars for the repairs. But, that's how much the inspection cost, $350. Now, the problem isn't so much as the fact that he was negligent in his inspection. The problem was when I notified John via email that the real problems arose. I sent John an email that basically said that I was upset that he was negligent in his inspection and I wanted him to make the situation right. I included some photos of the broken PVC pipe from the hallway shower and all of the damage from the uncapped vent pipe when it shot out several gallons of settled goop from the pipe all over my basement, as well as sent him the invoices from the plumbing company. (the photos have since been lost on my end due to a hard drive crash, but I still do have the invoices) John's response was not to respond at all. So, after 3 days of waiting, I called him. He was instantly surly once I told him who I was. He said that the email had offended him and that there was no way I was getting a refund, then hung up. I called back and asked why he hung up on me, and he replied "Because I am tried of your whining", and hung up again. I called right back and told him not to hang up, and that he was obligated as a service provider to resolve this conflict. He called me a "p****" and told me to be a man and stop whining, then hung up on me for a 3rd time. I of course called back, livid. I threatened to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and even look into getting a lawyer if that was the way he wanted to handle it, and he started to scream at me over the phone that he didn't care, then hung up for a 4th time. Why am I writing this so late? Because I just paid for a year long Angie's list subscription and I happened to see Kidwell Home Inspections at the top of the list and wanted to share my experience with John Kidwell. That's why. :)
