+ 2 moreNick Heldman was an excellent representative of the company to work with. He was involved in every step and was available to us via phone as needed during the wee. As well as nights and weekends when necessary. The siding material is rather new and he worked with the manufacturer to find out all the details and differences in just how to best apply the product to our home. Cape cod style. Nick was aware of our needs because he listens and reacts. Which is what I look for in a contractor. The crew wasn't very responsive. Which is why Nick was so important to be and stay involved during the entire job.
Description of Work: Tore off old damaged siding. Hail damage from 4/06. Replaced with a higher end siding style that we chose. This was on the upper half of our home, as the first floor is brick. They also replaced all guttering and shutters, which had also been damaged.

By mid-June, we were working with 3 other contractors so we did not follow-up. I know all roofing contractors were swamped at this time.

+ 3 moreIt took 5-6 weeks to get on schedule of an estimate. I had to call back after 6 weeks to see if we were on the schedule. Fred came out, spent almost an hour, answered questions, and gave good advice. The estimate came a week later. They were definitely on our short list, but we wanted 3-4 estimates, as it was a big job. I called Fred several times to advise of upgrades in materials we wanted and needed pricing for before we could make our decision. He rarely returned these calls with the needed information, despite promising to do so within a few days. I told him we were almost decided on his company but needed a final, adjusted estimate. They promised he would get it to us but never did. I checked Angie's List again and saw that their ratings had declined over the summer. I think they just overextended themselves after the hail storms. If I couldn't depend on them during the bidding process, I sure didn't want to depend on them to do the actual work.
Description of Work: A 1920s two-story Dutch Colonial needed a new roof, siding, gutters, window wraps, and painting due to hail damage.

+ -1 moreAfter calling several others from Angie's List, we decided on Heldman siding. I called mid June to ask to be put on the schedule, and left that message on the answering machine. I followed up with another call a couple weeks later. An August 16th call confirmed it was in Nick's folder, and he would be here by the first of the week of Aug. 21. Calls on Sept. 6, Sept. 19, Sept. 29 and Oct. 6 have resulted in no return calls, the last 2 which were promised to be from Mr. Heldman. We would still like them to do the work, however we have a 180 day deadline with insurance and it is approaching quickly. The last question asks if I would hire for a future job? I said no, however, if they come through and do a good job, that might change.
Description of Work: Repair a hole in vinyl siding caused by a lightning strike on May 25. I spoke to Mr. Heldman. Mr. Heldman was very knowledgeable. He thought that our siding was probably a certain brand, given the age (23 years) and the builder. He offered a wonderful option of repairing the siding, which would use a piece of the existing siding for the repair and put the new siding piece in a less obvious spot, for the price of $125 (plus the piece of siding). He did let me know that they were 3 to 4 weeks backlogged because of the hail damage repairs.

+ -1 moreThe experience was beyond description. After the discovery of the failed paint and attempt at repairs, we felt we no longer had control of the project and of our home. The first problem was we never felt like their mistake was taken seriously and the completion of our home was not a priority. Their work schedule was not steady and was being performed by only one person. This lasted a few months and when done, was still not acceptable. We had to bear costs of lawyers and additional contractors to help get the project completed. They tried to cut corners or make shoddy repairs and convince us that it was okay. Only by our determination and constant pressure were we able to get them to perform SOME of the work we wanted, again on their time table. The mental stress was unbearable and unwarranted. In fact having Rick Heldman scream at you is not the way any customer should be treated. This has been a HORRIBLE experience!!! And, it is still not over!!
Description of Work: Heldman Siding was contracted to replace siding, paint the new siding, replace windows, gutters and three exterior doors on the house in Aug. 2005. Three months after the initial installation of the siding it was noticed that the paint was failing at the caulk. The wrong type caulk was used and had to be removed and replaced. During the removal process the siding was damaged and numerous attempts to fix this only made the siding look worse. This work taking a few months. After contacting a lawyer, they agreed to replace all the siding, but then changed their mind to only replace certain sections of the siding. After refusing to replace any more siding we had to hire another contractor to remove the damaged siding and replace the remaining siding. Then the final painting was delayed on their part numerous times and the quality of the painting was unacceptable. The entire project has lasted over a year with the repair work lasting 10 months. The project is still not completed.

I called a third time and was told it would be another week and a half. They never showed up, and it is now July. They must have made their fortune and closed up because they apparently aren't interested in doing business.

When we realized our roof was leaking from the hail damage Richard Heldman had his guys out to place a tarp on our roof within a few hours! Richard Heldman did everything he said right on time from the estimate to the finishing of the job. This was very impressive because of so many houses having hail damage his work load was very heavy! Richard also displayed great patience in dealing with us as we had multiple concerns about our home and the work being done. Thanks goes out to all the guys at Heldman Siding for their professionalism, patience , and A job well done!!
Description of Work: Due to hail damage we needed a roof tear-off and new roof installation, replacement of damaged siding, and new gutters and downspouts.

He told me he did not have the pricing for the awning with him so he mail me an estimate. When I received the estimate it did not have the pricing for the awnings or the work that needs to be done for the garage. I called the company & they told the man who came out. They sent me another estimate for the roof work & awnings but it still did not include the garage work.
