Description of Work: The never ending project.... Didn't show up when they said they would, workmanship was of sub par quality. Demeaned by a sub contractor. Management did everything they could to make things right -- I will give them that. They made concessions and allowances, but in the end, I wanted the job done and done well. I'll be repainting the front door (looks like it was done by a child) and having someone else replace a bathroom ceiling.

Late one night, my daughter left the bathtub in our upstairs bathroom running for a really long time. The water ran so long that the tub overflowed and destroyed the bathroom floor, a portion of the floor in our loft, and portions of the floors in the bedrooms on each side of the bathroom. The water also went through the upstairs floors and damaged the ceilings down stairs and the floors downstairs in an office, another bathroom, a portion of our family room and our exercise room. For the most part, about ¼ of our home was damaged. So much water came through the ceiling that the trip around our doors separated from the wall and we had gaping holes in our ceiling. The next morning, I called my State Farm representative who referred me to Hays and Sons. We did not know what to expect because this is our first home and having spent the majority of our adult life in the Air Force and living in military housing, we are not accustomed to having to care of these types of repairs on our own. Furthermore, having used only one other contractor to have a floor replaced about a year ago and having a very bad experience, I was terrified of what I thought was going to happen. And if those things didn’t frighten me enough, I was very nervous about mold damage because I have a baby with severe respiratory problems. When I called Hays and Sons, I initially was told it may take up to six hours for the water damage team to arrive to my home. However, when I explained my baby’s health condition, the woman with whom I spoke said that she would see about getting someone there sooner. Not even two hours later, the team was there. They were a group of very young, but very professional and well mannered men. They set up the equipment and were in and out of our home in another two hours. They thoroughly explained why they had to leave all of the loud equipment in and home and actually apologized for the inconvenience as if they left the water running. Once the water dried, we had two other groups of contractors come out to repair out home. While both were wonderful, Ernie with Generations, and his crew was by far the best. They were quiet, clean and professional. In fact, Ernie gave me a little advice on an issue that ended up saving us a couple of hundred dollars. Once the repairs were done, we had the carpets cleaned by another company contracted by Hays and Sons. And, again, the level of professionalism and the quality of work was spectacular. The work was completed 3 days before Thanksgiving and 2 days before my company arrived. My family did not even believe we had water damage because my house was left in better shape than it had been prior to the damage. We could not even tell where they painted because it was an exact match. I am going to wrap this up by saying that I am completely satisfied. The attention and service I received from Dave, the Hays and Sons employees and the subcontractors was more than excellent, it was accommodating, professional, compassionate, and by far the best experience I could ever expect to have during a situation I wish to never have again.

They were very professional throughout the whole process. The project manager is coming out tomorrow to review the work and make sure it is to our satisfaction. They have been very customer friendly and easy to work with. We would certainly hire them again.

They stay true to their word. If there is something wrong after they have completed the work all I have to do is just call them up. They would be right back out to fix it and that is a great thing for the home owners. I have used them before.

I contacted Hays&Sons to do the repair as they also inspected my home for hail damage. An estimator gave me an estimate for the work. I agreed to have them do it. A project manager inspected the chimney and gave me a time frame when a team would be around to do the work. A two person team came and preformed the work. They were very professional and cleaned up after the work. They did do some very minor damage to the flower bed. Afterwards, the project manager came back and we conducted a joint inspection of the repairs. The work was neat and very professional looking. The company seems to be very professionally organized.
Description of Work: My chimney sweep notices the flashing around the chimney needed repair. The flashing was repaced all around (3 sides) of the chimney.

I called to ask them for an estimate after a neighbor recommended them. The first phone call, I was told I would get a call from a representative who would set up a time for the estimate. After a couple days with no call, I called again to make sure my original call had been documented and that I was on someone's list to be called. She checked and gave me the representative's name who's list I was on. I waited a few more days, and still had not received a call. I called again and told the receptionist my situation, and mentioned that I simply wanted to set up a time to get an estimate. I told her that if I didn't get a phone call by the end of the day, that I was going to go with someone else. I still have not received a call. Meanwhile, several other companies have called, set up appointments, and completed the estimates. I understand that they are busy, but I needed to get an estimate soon, so that I could get the work done within my insurance's allotted time. And frankly, if they wanted my business, they would have called.

Hays & Sons regrets an internal miss-communication occurred between Hays personnel and homeowner, resulting in homeowner not being contacted in normal time frame associated with estimate request. I am personally going to contact this customer and apologize to him. Hay & Sons operates around 100% customer satisfaction, and every customer counts. We are very disappointed this occurred to this client during one of the largest storms to hit Central Indiana in many years. We have put in place procedures to help prevent this from ever happening again. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience we have caused to this client.

We recently purchased this renovated home which had a new roof installed within the last year. We called Hays and Sons since they had installed the roof and asked if they could exhaust the dryer vent since it was roofed over in the renovation. While I'm not sure if the warranty was transferrable or not, Hays and Sons took initiative and offered to complete the work free of charge since it should've been done right the first time. The work was completed quickly and I had nothing but good experiences in dealing with the home office and the contractor. I appreciate the ownership of their work that Hays and Sons showed in repairing a deficiency, where the easy way out was to leave the repair to the new homeowner. I will definately consider Hays and Sons for any future renovation work needed on my house. Special thank yous go out to Don Hornberger and Megan for making this an enjoyable experience.
