Description of Work: I'd called them to do a cleaning and inspection since we'd only lived in the house a year and didn't know when it was last done. They came exactly when they said they would, and were extremely pleasant, professional, and informative. Turns out the system was fine and needed minimal work, so they charged me less than quoted. Still, they cleaned soot from the logs, added coals, rearranged the logs for maximum efficiency, and explained the system in detail to me, basically telling me it's an older system that has very little that can go wrong, and doesn't need annual inspection. They could have lied and I would have had them out here every year! Can't recommend them highly enough.

Description of Work: My gas log fireplace would not light. They were booked up several weeks out because of the start of cold weather season but I was able to get an appointment within 3 weeks. Serviceman showed up as scheduled and proceeded to give the fireplace a thorough cleaning. We had expected to have to buy a new part, but his cleaning was sufficient to get things working again. He made some adjustments to the flame that would help slow down the buildup of residue that caused the problem. He took the time to explain everything and answer my questions. His work came with a one year warranty. Very happy with service.

Description of Work: Installed fireplace insert. I paid extra to have outside air intake option connected. The outside air was intalled improperly, not according to the manufacturers specs. With door closed, fire would go out! After I called, they came out and spent most of the day installing a correct outside vent system. |If you get the outside vent option, which will keep your house warmer and make your system more efficient, be sure they intall a 4" opening to the outside.

+ -1 moreI went to their store to look at gas fireplaces, since I heard about them from Angie's List and I looked up their store on the internet. There were many fireplaces on display at the store, and it was easy to find one I liked. I find it hard to grade price, since I didn't visit other stores; but I think it is a quality fireplace. Everyone was very helpful, informative, and professional from the sale through the installation. They come to the house in advance to make sure what the customer wants can be done, and take measurements at that time. The installation went well. They were at my house on time, careful to keep the carpeting clean, made sure everything was to my liking, cleaned up, and explained how everything works. They also follow up after the work is done. That is the place to go if you are looking for a fireplace.
Description of Work: I bought a gas fireplace (direct vent) from Godby Hearth and Home, and they installed it on March 16, 2011.

+ -1 moreGodby Hearth & Home have an excellent selection of fireplaces, mantels, fireplace doors and all fireplace accessories, the best in the City we felt. Their showroom is impressive and they maintain books of pictures showing varieties of fireplaces. They were helpful and understood completely when we backed off additional fireplace remodel work, after discovering this type of work is relatively expensive; we were considering a more extensive remodel, but for now decided to stay with new fireplace doors only. It did take two separate visits to get the measurements right and we wish the fireplace door samples available (colors, materials) had been larger to make our decision with, but overall we are very satisfied with the end result. We hope to replace the mantel next year and will feel comfortable dealing with Godby again.
