D & J Carpet & Tile

The provider failed to provide service. After repeated telephone calls and emails I finally had to get my money back. I purchased two painters and their labor on Friday, 9/21/12 for $399. Order number 435174. Coupon code "Painters-435174-1". The service was to be performed by D&J Carpet and Tile. Randy Jones 9141 Sargent Manor Ct., Lawrence, IN 46256 317-577-9798. This is my 1st review ever for Angie's List...It didn't. D & J ran a Angie's List "deal" coupon "special" the contractor couldn't deliver on. Into the 4th month waiting for project to start, I threw in the towel & told Randy Jones that I wanted to just a refund. I've heard every contractor excuse and Randy said (among other reasons) he had a mortgage & kids he had to think of .. and when he emailed me with the statement "when any one runs a Special that's too good to be true you sell a lot" and tells me I am not patient, I knew I had made the right decision. I cannot say what kind of contractor D & J is for their "retail" customer- having had this experience with such justifications, I won't ever be their customer. Angie's List was gracious and refunded my payment in full.

D & J Carpet & Tile did a good job of what they were doing. They did it in a timely manner and did what I had contracted them to do. They were reasonably priced.

I telephoned D&J when I saw the ad due to the fact that my home was larger than was provided for in "the deal". He came over promptly to discuss the job. We discussed the price and as he walked around the house with me he discussed repairs that would be covered as well as other repairs and updates he recommended that wouldn't be covered. He was very clear about the work as well as being prompt, professional, and very knowledgable about his service. His price was very reasonable and there were things he covered in the price that I didn't anticipate him covering. He had several good suggestions on how to improve the exterior that have added much to the look of our home such as some trim work and updated lighting. He and his men worked hard, were courteous and professional, and kept me updated during the work. They cleaned up after themselves and answered any questions I had. When there was a brief break in the work, he explained the circumstances to me and was back on the job when he said he would be there. He supervised his own crew and made sure they corrected any errors before I even noticed it. He was as concerned about the quality of his work and my home as we were. They were as interested in their quality of work and reputation as I was about my home. Unfortunately, that isn't the norm today, so it was a very pleasant surprise to find a company as interested in their quality as D&J is. I can't recommend this company highly enough and will definitely use them in the future should the need arise.

They did a fine job. They were fine. They were prompt and they provided the service that we were asking them to do.

The painting was good and Randy did a great job with the soffit work in replacing the corners that needed to be addressed. I appreciate the time they took for us. I know he is busy, he followed up with me in regards to the project. I also had him redo tile floor in my dining room. it was a job well done. thank you

Of all the stuff that they completed, I don't have any complaint about their workmanship, they did good work, the painting and the trim work that they repaired were good, and they spent a lot of time deciding how to go about that but after replacing several window sills, the screens in those windows no longer fit because the sills were a little bit thicker than the original and he told me that he would resize the screens and get them all to fit again but that has never happened. Also, there is one window frame on one side of the house that he never finished painting and this was in November last year, weather was a little difficult and they definitely had to work around whether or not, it's fair enough, I don't have any complaint about that but I had to keep reminding the owner there was still stuff left undone, he kept assuring me that they would finish the work and they would get the screens back in and then I wouldn't hear from them, I would drop them an e-mail again or call and leave a message again and he would say they will be over to get it done but it never happened. Probably in January, I just got fed up with calling and trying to schedule a firm time when they would actually be able to finish. The last coat of the painting they can't really do if it's raining or it's cold but the fixing of the screens can be done anytime. I think the cost for the stuff that they actually did was fair. It was good work, I didn't really have any complaint about it but they could have done a better work cleaning up.

I purchased a one bedroom painting deal from Groupon and set an appointment with Randy to have the room painted. He came out and took a look at the room. There was some damage to the walls and the edges need to be caulked, so we agreed to a price for that. Then his team came and got the work done in about three hours. Everyone was friendly and professional.

I did not get a call from them until quite a while after I purchased the big deal. Since I hadn't heard from them, I requested a refund. After I received the refund, they called me and said they had not received any information about me from Angie's list until just then and wanted to know if I was still interested.

I finally got a refund in March. I ordered the deal in October. Never did get together. He called when I finally got my refund, through Angie's List. Was supposed to get in touch with me the next week......last I ever heard.

I am bothered that he did not ever call to address the issue and that he had weeks to evaluate the contract before the day of the appointment. A phone call would have been the more courteous, professional way to go about this.

They can do anything and do it well. There were very few things they couldn't do for us. They treated us just fine. They were very easy to work with.

I purchased a Big Deal from this company and they never contacted me. After several attempts with Angie's List to contact them, with no response, I finally requested a full refund.

The job went well. Randy did a good job of keeping us in the loop on his schedule, obstacles encountered, etc.

Went well, not much to tell in addition to info. mentioned above. Do tell him your preferred method of communication, ie. phone vs email. As I don't check my emails daily, and missed communication from him regarding change in schedule due to the heavy snow on Monday. But we connected and resolved the date change which accomodated my schedule. He is very good about returning phone calls .

The paperwork did not match our conversations and we were never able to come to an agreement. The money for the big deal was refunded.

I bought the deal but it was only the fraction of the work needed but I knew there were issues that need to be addressed that would be more than the advertised deal and the initial estimate was lower than the actual price. Randy was very quick to come to me with the additional work and cost needed to complete the job. In the end I believe that the price was fair and the work was done fairly well. There are a few spots where paint was dripped on the brick siding on the front of the house and not properly cleaned up. There are a few spots the were not prepared very well and painted over that should have been taken care of but were not. At times I was frustrated by the promise to return on a particular date only to have them come out a few days later without calling until well after the initial appointment was missed. There was wood rot on several of the windows and brick molding and when Randy did the wood working, it came out very well. The re-built soffit and re-screening of the porch was very good as well. In some cases Randy went above and beyond to try to make us satisfied but his commitments to other jobs seemed to trump get our job done as quickly as it should have been done. Overall, the work was about a B+ but the communications was a C-. I was not as unhappy as my wife who was not happy with clean up after the job, the lack of communication, the slow responsiveness to our phone calls and very poor initial cost estimate by Randy. This is why I would not use them again.

The stain was pretty set by the time they were able to get here, but it looks a lot better than I would have hoped. They also cleaned three other rooms that now look great.

The tile and grout were deep cleaned. Both had some sort of sealant or polish on them which made it difficult to clean. Randy provided on the spot solutions and was able to clean it to new. He worked for hours on it at the same price and only charged for the extra supplies. Well worth the price and product.

They worked with me on price and times to get in and work on the house. The painters were very polite and profesional. After they left there was no trash left around. Overall great experience and the house looks great!!

Paid for Angie's List Big deal in October 2012. D&J Carpet and Tile were supposed to e-mail within a couple of days to schedule service. Then never e-mailed. Called and left message. No reply recieved. Evidentily they took the money and ran. Would not use or recommend.

It was a huge mess. I first had him come to my house and look at the shower where I wanted him to do the Big Deal work. I also wanted him to clean some grout in a rental apartment that we own. They didn’t show up 3 days in a row for the appointments we’d made for that work. He didn’t even call me to cancel—I had to call him. I gave him another chance, but he screwed up again. When I left him a message to cancel my appointment, he never even called to confirm he had received it. After his lack of response about the rental apartment, I’m not going to have him do the work on my own shower.

He came on time and used grout to caulk the shower----It didn't hold and I had to call him back. He did come right back and put caulk around the base of the shower. It really didn't hold that good. I waited the right amount of time before I used the shower but I really am not that satisfied with what he did. I will probably have to have it caulked again. He was very nice but the job was not great. A grade of C.

The floors now look almost like new.

He was able to get the job done on short notice and he did a wonderful job. He placed the old mildewy caulk from around the shower/tub area w/new mildew resistant caulk, and the shower/tub area looks like new. He was fast, personable, and reasonable. I would recommend this company again to anyone. GREAT JOB!!!! :)
