Culligan Water Conditioning of Indianapolis

It was great. The service man called me about a half hour before he arrived. He did the work quickly and cleaned up after himself. This is the first time I have needed service and it was great.

Our ancient rental unit stopped working and was judged by Culligan to be unrepairable because there were no parts for the out-of-manufacture type of valve in it -- by name, a Fleck valve. We talked to Culligan and other vendors and decided to replace our Culligan rental system with one purchased from a Culligan competitor -- which we did. Culligan removed the old unit, which their man said was junk, except for the brine tank, which is still in use as a rainwater collector. Unfortunately for us, Culligan claims that the (junk) equipment was never removed and continued to bill us for the rental (which was unrepairable and would not have been operational had it not been removed) despite our best efforts to get someone to listen to reason. Ultimately, we were sued by the debt collector and have counter sued the collector and Culligan. While we are absolutely sure of winning this, the fact that my credit rating was damaged and we had to hire an attorney, all because Culligan relied on their faulty record-keeping and stonewalling instead of common sense and reasonable discussion, is my reason for filing this bad report.

Culligan men were very nice and punctual. They worked out a reasonable handling fee too remove the old softener. We purchased a new one from them and we're happy with our choice and with Culligan. We also purchased a service agreement with them. We worked with Steve York , a manager, and he was on site with the technician.

The were timely. They did what they said they were going to do. I always do use them.

I had been noticing that my softener had seemingly not been regenerating when it should have been. It had been some time since I had to add salt. So, I called Culligan out for a look. Within 2 minutes, he located a loose wire on the unit, hooked it back up and the problem was fixed. He then proceeded to add 3 small packs of some sort of mineral regenerating agent to my salt tank and did a very quick water test. All in all, the tech was cordial but I was appalled to find out that the cost of finding a loose wire in less that 2 minutes was going to run me over $150! This is where I thought a company should have a bit more integrity with it's customers, especially after having originally purchased a $2000 unit from them. One would have thought the company representative could have said "you know, it was a loose wire... let's just call it X dollars and I'll be on my way."

I order 5 bags at a time. They deliver when you ask and are always on time.

My fiance says they are really easy to work with and they are installing on time. We've been real pleased with them.

They told me I need a whole new unit but was able to get it fixed for $90 and it works great.

The service tech couldn't have done a better job! I am very happy with them!

The salesman, Dave Reifeis, was superior to any sales rep we had in our home exploring various methods of water treatment. The installation went almost trouble free. I would highly recommend them and their prices are competitive with others of similar quality.

Our Culligan representative's name was Logan. He was a very nice man, however I didn't feel that he was as informed as I hoped. He was suppose to come the day before and somehow the office had given him our old address as opposed to the hew house address and our home phone as opposed to my cell phone like I requested. Consequently we were waiting at the new house while he was lost finding our temporary apartment. After I called to find out why he hadn't arrived they were still going to send him, but then he got stuck in an accident. We rescheduled for the next day and only found out by accident that he had the previous address and were able to correct it before our meeting time. Once there he was extremely nice, but had to search through his binder a lot for information. The quotes seemed extremely high and he said they didn't provide things I had heard they provided. We ultimately went with Indiana Soft Water Company even though we had been prepared to sign up with Culligan that day.

Never spoke to me as the two men entered my home with dirty feet and left muddy spots on my light carpet. They quietly fiddled at the sink about 5 minutes. One just stood and watched. Then said it was in good shape and presented me with a bill for $179. I expressed my shock over the bill and ended up calling their supervisor who confirmed the charge and said he couldn't change it. I spent more time cleaning carpet and writing the check then they did "working".

They charge to unhook the system, will not move the system. Then charge to reconnect the system by the hour. The service took 3hrs and 40min, The service person was unable to hookup the water filtration system(REO). So someone else will have to come out. Again I will get charged for a service that should have been taken care of at first. The service man was pleasant, but just could not get the job done. There scheduling time was never convenient. I work nights, and no matter how often I requested an early appointment, I could never get one. Which meant I had to stay up all morning to wait for them. I still have no clue how much the final bill will be, because the work is not done yet.

We have been very happy so far with this company. They have installed a censor to save us on salt which will save us money.

The water softener they installed was brand new. For $21.73 a month it is a great deal. They come out every other month and check my salt. If I need it, they leave it and send a bill. Otherwise, it is nothing. I never have to fill the salt because they take care of it.

The technician, Tim, was very polite and was on time. Our only complaint was that we had to pay $120 for a service call on a 2 year old unit that we originally paid $1,270 for, and that Culligan does not warranty the interior of their product. We have decided that when we need a new water softener, we will either rent one (that will cover any repairs as needed), or purchase from another source.

John Gorman was great to work with, answered all our questions, and took time with us. Installer worked hard and installed in about 2 hours or just a bit more. He installed the softener two days after purchase; which is great turnaround time. We are very happy with the quick results we've had and with the service and equipment we've purchased.

I have had the best service with them. I love this company. I will use them again and would recommend.

I haven't commented before now, because I'm not sure if I am happy or not. The salesman was a little shady, I thought, and I think he suggested a water softener that is much more expensive than I needed. I am at fault, however, for not checking Angie's List before I called him. He made me uncomfortable when he scanned my credit card with a pen and a piece of paper. ''A little trick I learned'', he said. But the softener is working fine so far, so I have no real complaints.

I set up an appointments for an estimate on a Saturday morning. Less than 20 minutes later, I realized we had a scheduling conflict so called back and cancelled it. At 6:15 on Saturday morning the representative called to ask if we wanted him to come. No joke, 6:15 on a Saturday morning. He was very rude, telling me that he was going to have to get up then in order to make it to my house on time, and didn't want to go to the trouble if we weren't interested! No apologies for the early phone call, not even after I told him that the appointment had been cancelled the previous morning. I called the Culligan office on Monday to complain. They apologized for their tech's behavior, saying they had never had this experience before. However, I got the impression that they didn't really care. This impression was further enforced when no supervisor or anybody in authority called to follow up. We will NEVER use or recommend them.

We have used them for 5 years, and never had problems until we moved a 1/2 mile and bought our own cooler. In the three months since the move they had servicing problems twice (2 months).

Culligan came out as requested to check system No charge for visit, fee is bi-month rental.

The sales representative who visited our home was terrible. We scheduled an appt. at 8:00 p.m. He called requesting to come early which was inconvenient for us because we have small children. He spent 30 minutes trying to engage in small talk that had nothing to do with water softeners. After we asked him 3 times politely to move things along he told us he needed to reschedule or just leave. When we said we were disappointed he indicated he was choosing to just leave. He did not test our water or provide us with any quote. Unbelievable. He totally wasted our time.

They did the job. I just wish they could give a better idea of an arrival time. I asked for a first morning appointment and they didn't come until early afternoon.

In a word their service is terrible. Called and scheduled an appointment for the afternoon of 3/9. Was supposed to show between 12-2. Repairman never showed. Called service line and could hear rep telling service man to get ''back to work.'' Asked that they come after 3:30 so I could pick up son from school. Rep said fine. Got home at 3:30 and saw Culligan had called. Called Culligan and told serviceman had been there and left. Talked to manager who apologized and promised to have someone come out by 5:00. A repairman shows up well after 5:00 and proceeds to tell me he doesn't carry parts in his van for my softener and that he was told to simply bypass the unit. Writes out invoice and notes that someone needs to call me about repairing or upgrading unit. 10 days later no one has called. If you are thinking about going with a culligan water softener think twice! The service is terrible. I note that I would hire again because I have little choice. UGH!!
