Call requesting an estimate was returned on the same day. They prepared an estimate the next day and handed it to us. The estimate was competitive with other bids we had for the service. They arrived as promised and finished within the time frame they had promised. They cleaned the area completely after finishing. They were very helpful in determining how far back we could trim the trees. They were very professional. We received the Angie's List discount.
Description of Work: Date of work--=-12/14/07. Type of work---tree trimming. Specific Work--- two medium sized trees on the front corners of our house that to be trimmed back to prevent them from being on the roof and the gutters. Trees were trimmed and shaped according to our instructions with their help to decide how far we could cut them back and not hurt the trees.

We ended up going with the lowest estimate.

When I got estimates from Broad Ripple Tree Service and Ping's Tree Service last December when I wanted a silver maple tree cut down. Ping's tree Service estimate was considerably lower so I had them cut it down. But I hired Broad Ripple Tree Service this time. Ping's would give a discount only if the job cost over $300 dollars. Broad Ripple Tree Service gave Angie's List member 5% discount even on a small job that cost $150.00.
Description of Work: I called Broad Ripple Tree Service to ask them to remove some "Volunteer" trees from my property that have grown so tall they were obscuring my security (spotlights) at the back of the house that light the way from the garage to the house.

They were very responsive. They called me back the same day I called and, said it was the wrong time of the year to do the work. They agreed to call me in the spring, so I didn't have to worry about them remembering who I was. I thought that was really good and that they were very honest.

I called on Monday to get an estimate. They came out on Tuesday and left the estimate. On Thursday I called & scheduled the work to be done on Friday. Friday they came out to do the work. They cut the tree down, removed it & cleaned up. They said the person that would grind the stump was running behind & asked if they could finish on Monday. They never showed up on Monday. I called & was told they would be out on Tuesday. At 5pm on Tuesday I called & they said Wednesday at the latest, but maybe still Tuesday. They did eventually come out Tuesday evening to finish the job.
Description of Work: I had a tree that was damaged in the wind. A large part of the tree had fallen and the rest of it needed to be removed. They cut down what was left of the tree, removed the tree & ground the stump.

Jerry Dunlevy was accommodating in meeting me at my home to give me an estimate even before they had said they could. He was fast and efficient, writing up the estimate on a little card. The ample crew, all polite and hard working, led by a young man named Paul, was professional and got done even faster than they said they would. They WORKED. In the future, I won't shop around, I will just call them.
Description of Work: Their team removed three trees, seven huge bushes, a massive pile of brush and a wood pile another tree service did not take away a year ago. They cleaned everything up and ground out all the stumps as well. (It took me about three hours of hard work to remove one similar large bush in the past, by the way). Two other contractors, one a tree service, one a hauler, had failed at removing the brush pile in the last couple of years. This crew did it completely, and fast.

The rick of firewood we ordered was delivered the following day. Arrangements were made to stack the wood as usual and I was so pleased to see that the old wood was removed/ the new wood stacked and the old wood was replaced on the top. The ordering and delivery service went very well; unfortunately the wood was not seasoned well and would not burn without constant attention. We still have lots of VERY large pieces that we were unable to get into the fireplace and will have to find someone who can chop them into smaller logs. We have gotten wood from Broad Ripple Tree Service for several years, but I think we will find a different source from now on.

The whole process from getting three quotes to getting the tree removed took place within a week or so. I only saw one of the contractors. I had the tree marked, so they could easily come by when I was at work to see the tree and make an estimate. After I chose Broad Ripple Tree Service, they set up a date to do the work. When I came home from work that day, the tree was gone, the stump was gone, and all the waste was completely gone. I was very impressed with the cleanup. The tree was in the back yard, but they had all the logs, limbs and branches very thoroughly cleaned up. The only down side was that some of the heavy equipment they used left "holes" in the lawn where the soil had been compacted. There were three or four of those. Everything else was done so well that this matter was nothing to complain about.
Description of Work: I had a large maple tree that was dying that was located right next to the house with branches overhanging the house. It had numerous dead branches that would fall on the roof from time to time as they broke off of the tree. I was planning to have the roof replaced on the house this summer, so I decided to have the tree and stump removed before the roof replacement was started. I called three Angie's List contractors to obtain quotes. I've used all three contractors in the past, and have been happy with all of them. I chose this contractor since he gave me the best price.

They did a good job of removing the large trees and shrubs. The tree trimming was not so good. The Hawthorns were left uneven, the Apple trims were just cut flat across the tops, the large Crab apple was pruned more severely than we would have preferred. The man who gave the estimate and was supposed to be a certified arborist did not show up with the work crew. We left for out of town immediately after they finished so didn't inspect things carefully. We called after returning home and asked the arborist to please come out to even the Hawthorns and prune the Apple trees appropriately. It took two weeks and two calls before he came out. He said the crew didn't have experience in pruning Apple trees. I think we should have been told that at the beginning and we would have called someone else. The Hawthorns were re-trimmed but still are not shaped like we hoped. The Apple trees were thinned but many small branches that should be pruned were left on.
Description of Work: They were to remove two large Pine trees and three Yew shrubs; trim two Hawthorn trees, one Crabapple tree and three Apple trees.

OUR ARBORISTS HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF EXPERIENCE IN PRUNING FRUIT TREES BECAUSE THEY DO IT EACH DAY. THE CUSTOMER HAD A VERY SPECIFIC OPINION OF HOW HER TREES SHOULD LOOK. WE CAME BACK OUT IN A TIMELY MANNER AND PRUNED THE TREES AGAIN IN THE HOPE OF BETTER MEETING HER IDEA OF HOW THE TREES SHOULD LOOK. WE DID THIS AT NO EXTRA CHARGE BECAUSE OUR GOAL IS COMPLETE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION.

We had considered removing the trees ourselves, but wanted to check around to see if it was worth our effort. I contact many companies for an estimate. After receiving two, I cancelled the other estimates since Broadripple was so reasonable. Stacy, the phone service representative, was extremely helpful and a wealth of information. The estimate was performed the day I called. Within 5 days, service was rendered. Although I was not here for the entire procedure, my husband reports that it was done extremely well. They arrived on time and got to work. All three trees were removed with stumps ground down to 15 inches below the surface. They made every effort to preserve the appearance of our yard, despite the wetness of the back. Clean up was well done. We would highly recommend their services to anyone looking for well done work at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: We had three trees removed, including stumps. One was a 20 foot black willow with a bad fungus, one was a 7-8 foot Spruce with wet feet and the third was a 20+ foot River Birch that was too close to the house. Jon came out, gave an estimate for tree removal with stumps. He was very thorough, asking if we intended to replant in areas... The estimate was almost half that of other companies. I contacted them based on Angie's List ratings.

Before calling, I had reviewed a number of the reports on Angie's List and selected 3 or 4 to contact for estimates. The owner and an arborist came to our home within an hour of the call and reviewed the work needed to be done and gave a preliminary estimate. They were quite professional and answered all questions to my satisfaction. The next morning the arborist performed measurements on the oak to be sure that there was not inner rot. After another estimate which was higher, I decided not to call the others on the list. On the scheduled day, the crew arrived approximately on time and began work. The owner also came out to be sure that I and the crew had a similar idea of what I needed and wanted. The crew and crew chief were knowledgeable, did an excellent job and worked very hard completing everything we had agreed upon in less that the estimated 8 hours. I believe that this is the first time in my memory that I have been charged considerably less than original estimate.
Description of Work: Trimmed many very large limbs from a huge white oak, trimmed dead branches from a number of trees and filed somewhere between 6 and 8 additional trees in our woods that were close to the house and driveway.

We had several estimates from Angie's list service providers for the job described above. The prices varied WIDELY!! We chose the least expensive. The crew came when they said they would come, they reviewed the tasks as they were described on the original estimate and then went right to work. Two fellows quickly and efficiently worked the Berry tree branches and two others made quick work of removing the dead trunk/branch of the Ash tree. They cut up the Ash tree pieces for fire wood at my request (not on the original estimate). After the Crab Apple stump was removed, all remaining cutting debris was cleaned up. These fellows completed the task in short order.

They told me who to call to have our various utilities marked. All of our utility lines were running toward the base of the tree. They were able to grind down the stump without affecting the lines. They forgot to bring the topsoil to fill the hole, but it wasn't a big issue because they took it off the bill. The tree was over two stories tall and they had it down in under 30 minutes. I was very pleased.

Well-they were prompt, and got right to work. They did a very nice job shaping the Magnolia. The tree that they took down that was hanging over the house was down very carefully and with no problems at all. The only problem was that the hydraulic hose on the cherry picker blew and sprayed a mixture of oil and water over the driveway/lawn and tree. This was a pure accident and not something that they could have avoided. They did a great job washing everything down with soapy water and then powerwashing the driveway to be sure that all the oil was off the macadam. They cleaned everything up on the property and even hauled away a brush pile that they didn't have to take away. It was very nice.

They provided me a quote for $650. After they completed the work, they asked my wife to pay $950, which she did. How the job increased $300 above the quote is beyond me. In addition, the quality of the work was very poor. The tree they trimmed looked like it got a very bad haircut. They also butchered two trees that belonged to my neighbor that we had merely asked to be trimmed, not hacked. It was similar to getting an ear cut off at the barber shop. Fortunately, my neighbor was very understanding and was not mad. I called to complain and they claimed that they came out to review the work and claimed that they were pleased with their work. They offered to refund $100 to appease me. I was very disappointed, especially since I relied on the several positive reviews they have received through Angie's List.
