Response from Booher Remodeling Company
First and foremost, please understand that we have never received a review like this on Angie’s List. It is also our standard business practice that we only give estimates with the homeowner present. It is important to get specific information when considering a remodeling project. We take this very seriously as we always have our customers’ best interest at heart, 100% of the time. Furthermore, we have adopted our $250.00 estimate fee as a standard practice because there have been several instances where we have given estimates for realtors or customers who are purchasing a home. 95% of these estimates given are used to negotiate the price of the home or the deal does not go through and the work is never completed. Retaining these types of jobs has much less than 50/50 chance. Rightfully, the customer will get three estimates and look at other homes during the home buying process. When this member called in for an appointment, we advised him that we only give free estimates if you own your home, otherwise there will be a $250.00 estimate fee that will be credited back to your invoice if you choose our company for the remodeling project. The member proceeded to give us the code to the house and this confused us. We called him back to verify that the homeowner would be there and he assured us that they would be. In talking with the member, we could not get him to confirm or deny that he actually owned the home. We didn’t know if it would be him or a client of his. When Mike arrived to the appointment, there was a for sale sign in the yard. No one was there and he waited for 15 minutes. We never gave Mike the code to the house because someone was supposed to be there. We feel that we made it very clear what our policy is to this member and that he tried to evade our estimate fee. Upon further investigation, based on the Marion County Tax records, the home is not owned by this member.
