Big Dog Flooring

The carpet installation was flawless. The carpet was beautifully installed and the price was very competitive. It has been installed for almost a year at this point and it wears very well, spots clean up with a damp cloth as promised. I couldn't be happier with the carpet. The tile instillations in the master bathroom went very well but a couple of sections that line the base of cabinet have come unglued. So far none of the tiles in the floor portion have come loose but it concerns me that they might. The part of the job that was most disappointing was the hardwood floors. The rooms that had new hardwood added are adjoining the room with existing hardwood, which was to be refinished. It was my understanding that all the floor would match when they were installed. I hate the look of patchwork floors in a house...it always looks bad to me. They installed pre-finished hardwood floors, which as it turns out are very difficult to match to existing hardwood. It took a long time to finally get the refinishing part of the job done. When it finally did get done, it was a complete disaster. The person who did the work was either a first timer or was in such a hurry that he didn't care what the finished work looked like. They stain was unevenly applied, you could see visible brush marks in several places, and they took no care to protect the baseboards, which had all just been painted. There was stain splashed on the walls and all over the baseboards. It looked terrible!!!! I texted Chip and he said he would take a look at the work. That took 2 months but he did finally send someone back over to completely redo the work, which meant we had to go through the whole process of getting kicked out of our house, boarding our dogs and getting sanding dust all over everything again. The work was redone and the floors looked much better the second time. The guy who did the work tried very hard to match the stain to the new floors. He did tell me, however, that it was impossible to match refinished floors to prefinished floor but no one ever mentioned that to me before. It would have been good to know. Chip also replaced the carpet in the master bedroom closet, which was not part of the original estimate and didn?t charge us for it. I think he did that to help offset the cost of boarding our dogs a second time. At this point the baseboards were still a mess, there was a piece of existing floor trim in the dining room that was neither replaced or refinished, even though I had asked about it multiple times. I also asked about a plank on the new floor that cracked but that was never addressed either. About 3 months after the floors were refinished the 2nd time around, they finally came and replaced the qtr. round but they didn?t repaint any of the areas where they got stain on the rest of the baseboards. I haven't heard from them since. It still looks terrible! The new hardwood doesn't match the old hardwood, the dining room trim remains unfinished, the tile in the bathroom is falling down and there are a couple of places were the new hardwood is showing serious signs of wear after little more than a year. I was so happy with their work in the beginning and it is sad that it ended up like this. I would like all the outstanding issues to be addressed once and for all, but I honestly was so frustrated that it was easier not to deal with it. I still would like to get to have all this stuff addressed. Chip is a supper nice guy and tries very hard, but I think he is very busy and probably counts on his subcontractors to do work correctly and there is no quality assurance. Towards the end of the process I started to feel like a nag and I still feel a little like a nag but we spent a lot of money trying to update our house and it?s so frustrating when things are done correctly. I would give them an A on carpet and and F on the hardwood floors.

We visited their showroom and found some in stock carpet at a great price. We also found a great deal on a remnant piece of vinyl and special ordered the rest. We received a verbal quote quickly and accepted the offer. The quoted amount was our exact cost of the job, they didn't monkey with the charges at the end of the job. The installation took a few days, but they were able to complete the job before our given deadline. It was outstanding that my wife and I didn't have to take time off of work to be there for the installation. The flooring and service that we received from Big Dog Flooring was exceptional, we will definitely use them again in the future for all of our flooring needs.

Chris and his wife were excellent. The installers were very professional and task-oriented. They worked with precision and left with their mess cleaned up. We LOVE our floor!

Their pricing was adequate and fine but it took the guy extremely long to install it the way it would fit in. He was nice and did a good job but it's just that he was at my place forever. I would use them again in the future but probably with a different installer.

We were very happy with them. They were friendly and easy to work with. They were honest. The pricing was good. We did shop around some. We felt good about the company. They were very professional.

Chip was very timely with looking at our situation and giving us bids. In retrospect I wish that he would have been a little more helpful about wear and tear issues as the floors already look "lived in". The install went smoothly and the workers were very understanding of our situation with dogs that needed to go in and out. I appreciated that very much. However they did not clean up and I had to call to get them back out to clean up mess. Also left scrap board and cig butts in the front yard. We have called several times since install to ask for rect./prooof of purchase and warranty/care information and have never received so I do not give them high marks for follow through.

I had a great experience with Big Dog's flooring. All contacts were professional, friendly and knowledgeable with the products and service. The variety of flooring was abundant, so I took home several samples so as to match the right shade of carpet with my furniture and wall colors. I really can't say if the pricing was fair or not since as I did not compare with any other company. I had Chip( the owner) arrive on time, give me an estimate for the work and carpet/padding. Accepted the bid and set up a date/time for installation. The installers arrived on time and did a GREAT job with the removal/installation of the carpet. They had to move several pieces of heavy furniture that I was unable to remove before installation. The clean up was great following the job. The installers were professional and friendly and after talking found out they had done work for me thru another company in the past. I am very pleased with Big Dog's flooring and the installation of my new carpet! I will definitely check out Big Dog's flooring for any future flooring needs. Thank you BIG DOG'S flooring. May 2013, A year later the carpet still looks great, installation was great as I have not had any problems with stretching or pulling from the floor/wall. We wanted to have hardwood floor installed and asked around for a few bids. We were either not happy with the price or could not tell whether the contractor is trustworthy or not. I finally decided to try Angie's list. I was a little disappointed that there were no local stores or contractors in Bloomington with good rating. Big dog showed up at the top of the list so we decided to give them a call. It turned out that they are willing to come done to do the work. We feel comfortable to work with them for two reasons: they have a good rating from Angie's list and they have a brick-and-mortor store. We went to visit the store and liked the wood samples and were pretty happy with the rough price bid the owner Chip provided. Everything went very smoothy from there on. We finally had Asian Walnut installed in our living and dining area. The house looks much more upscaled than it did before. The crew were professional and reasonable. In short, I would have future flooring job done with them and I am already recommending them to my friends. It is so great to find a honest and capable team to work for me. I originally went to Lowes for a quote...we had a terrible experience (three different employees asked to schedule the work...even before measurements). We then, went to see Chip, GREAT PERSON and picked out our Carpet and Hardwood Laminate Floors. We had everything measured again, and were quoted a very reasonable price. We scheduled the work, and they showed up on time. They are very diligent, hard working, very skilled carpenters., and they are VERY HONEST TOO!!! I LET THEM INTO MY HOME TO WORK, AND WE DID NOT EVEN HAVE TO BE THERE. (How great is that? Contractors that you can let inside of your home, without fear of any problems in our absence). I met with Chip, and we went through my house to make sure everything was to our satisfaction...and everything looks wonderful. I will be using Big Dog Flooring again, to do the rest of the upstairs next spring. I would certainly recommend them to family and friends, YOU are in good hands with everyone at Big Dog Flooring!!! Chip, the owner came out and measured the job, quoted us a fair price for the carpet install. His 2 man crew came out on the day they said they would and on time. They did an excellent job on all three rooms, and some nice work on the bonus room stair case. Helped with a couple of stair threads that had a squeak in them. Finished on time and cleaned up all the loose material. They were more than professional and did a great job!

Chip was very accommodating to meet for the estimate in the evening, so we didn't have to take off of work. He was quick, presented some reasonable samples, did his measurements, and gave me an estimate. One thing that initially made me wary was that the written "estimate" was on the back of his business card instead of a regular invoice. We did discover that this price was not the final one, but the end price was still the best one in comparison to our other possibilities. We received the actual end price after we called with a few questions. When we called to give them the go-ahead to order and put 1/2 down, it was without issue. They were able to take a credit card over the phone. We were called promptly as soon as the carpet came in, and then it was up to us to work the install into our work schedules. The install crew were timely and efficient and did a great job. My daughter (3 1/2) was so excited about having carpet in the besment that she gave them both a big hug when they arrived. I think that made their day. We highly recommend them. We felt good to support a local business as well, instead of a national chain (like Empire).

Kudos to Chip and his wife and the installers for a fantastic job. We were in the market for flooring and checked Angies list for companies on the south side. We went to Big Dog Flooring due to the review they had on Angies List and were very pleased with the service we received at the store. Chip let us borrow a sample board of colors and we took them home to chose the colors we wanted. Chip then came to our house and measured the rooms we wanted to carpet. Chip was very polite and professional during the whole selection and installation process. I called him several times and he was very prompt on returning my calls. We were in the process of remodeling rooms and were not ready for all rooms when the carpet arrived and Chip worked with us on splitting the install dates and storing the material until we were ready. The install crew that came out ( Alan and Pat), were very polite and did a great job and during the whole install showed pride in their job. There were a few special instructions I had asked them to do during the install and they carried this out when the time came and verified with me that they were doing what I had wanted when they had got to that point of the install. I would highly recommend this company to anyone who is on the market for flooring and would use them again when the time comes. Thank you Big Dog Flooring for a job well done

I saw they were on Angie's list. They were good I was happy with them.

The store representatives, including a very enthusiastic and friendly greeting from a dog named Max and the really big dog, Bernie were very friendly and courteous. We enjoyed our visits with them. The estimate for services was exactly the final cost for the work. Responsiveness to our needs and punctuality of the installers was a plus. The only negative was that the tile installers did not clean up very well and a replacement tile next to a fireplace was not very level and the grout did not match. The vinyl installers knocked loose a trim piece on a cabinet face and left a few spots of glue, mostly in a corner of the kitchen. I was able to clean things up the next morning and an easy fix on the cabinet trim. Overall, we are quite pleased with the appearance of the flooring and would certainly consider using Big Dog Flooring in the future.

Price was good and general workmanship was excellent. Communication between BD and their installer and myself where horrible. Plans, pre prep, seizing, followup etc was seldom if ever completed in a timely manner. On 4 separate occasions I had to stop by store for face to face followup that was not completed even after promises. Even after all these problems the final cleanup was never completed. While the finished product looked good I would not recommend BD, the surrounding communication problems were just to much.

I guess I answered this on the above question.

Found Big Dog through Angies List. Stopped by and set up appointment for "tile guy" to come by and do estimate. Was called the day before and told he was ill and could not make appointment, OK. He came by a few days later and gave us an estimate. Price was OK so we went with BD. Waited a few weeks and were told tile was on backorder. New date given and that morning installer called and stated he would be late he needed material. He came later with helper and when he arrived he had no idea of what style we wanted or even what or work was. He was a good worker but would constantly have to leave to pickup other flooring needs. It took twice as long as was stated after multiple starts and stops. Backsplash tile was short and we had to wait 2+ weeks for the project to be completed. On three separate occasions we called store for information on when job would be completed and were promised phone calls back to clarify and received none. This went on for over two weeks with me having to stop by the store and speak to them twice but with no callbacks. After finishing grout some grout was left on marble, reported additional cleanup needed, BD never returned or called again. The only help we received was from the lady working weekends, she always contacted us back. The work was done well but pre work, project needs and communication were average to poor.

As described above the procedure was a long one but Chip stayed with it and a beautiful new floor was installed.

All work was done just as they told us. They are pros and do the job like it was for their home. They were short a piece of trim. We had no problem with them coming back to replace it. They called next day and came that afternoon to replace trim part, just as they said.

I found Big Dog Flooring on Angie's List and also received a strong recommendation from my coworker to check them out. We went to the showroom to look at samples and took several home with us. The following week Chip came out to measure and give an estimate. I realized the samples I liked were outside my budget and needed to select something less expensive. Chip said no problem and we went back to the showroom and he had several samples that better fit our budget waiting for us. We scheduled the installation for a couple weeks later. The installers showed up on time and were professional and friendly. I could not be happier with Big Dog Flooring I will absolutely hire them in the future for our next flooring project.

Can't say enough good things about Chip, Chris and Susan. They went above and beyond to work with me on this purchase and installation. Whatever I needed or wanted, they took care of for me. I was initially very indecisive about what type of carpet to go with. Susan and Chris were both very patient with me during this process. It took me several visits to make a decision. They let me take home as many samples as I needed to. This entire process as an education session for me. They asked a lot of questions about how we used our home...how many children we had...how many grandchildren...pets...and made suggestions based on what I told them. It has been a long time since I last purchased carpet and technology has come a log way. They just worked very hard to bring me up to date. Their patience continued during my installation process as I had some difficult timelines to deal with. Installers were as professional and quick as they could be. Very polite. From start to finish a great experience. Wonderful folks to work with.

This is our second time working with Big Dog; I have recommended them to family, friends and coworkers! I can not say enough positive comments regarding their professionalism!

Color to match what was in the kitchen was a problem. With estimators help we made a decision. When installers showed with the material the first few pieces did not look like much of a match so a different color was chosen. Turns out I should have stayed with the original decision. Hardwood has color variances from piece to piece. I did not want to go through the dirt/trouble to sand and re-stain at this time. Installer advised if we wanted to buy 1/4 round they would come back and install. Trouble was this was already included in the bid. When I discovered this I asked for reimbursement from Big Dog. We received a check within two days.
