We talk while he works and he is really good. He knows his job very well. He gets the job done and if he cannot get it done, he will not charge me. He runs a test that is cheaper than the service call and if he passes the test then he will do the work for me. He is prompt and is always on time. I know that some people pay less for a water heater but my water is guaranteed for 6 years and I thought that was pretty good. I called him on a Saturday and I was the second caller that he took on Monday. He is here when he says he is going to be here.
Description of Work: I used B & W Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning to get my water heater replaced. We have a plumber from that company that we use for years; ever since we have been in this house.

Ray, the plumber, has been here several times and he is a great guy. They are very prompt and here when they say they will be. They are also very polite, clean and do excellent work. We even received a $25 discount with our Angie's List coupon. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Other than the price the experience was good.
Description of Work: B&W seems like an easy company to work with. They were very responsive. My only complaint is the price. The HSI part is $25.00 or less and the technician probabaly gets about $25.00 per hour. The job took 1 hour. So it looks like the compnay took in about $200.00. That seems high in this market.

I recently purchased a new (used) home in Carmel and had the warrantee for the HVAC system transferred to my name. The house has a top-of-the-line two stage gas furnace that appears to be in very good condition. I had them come out shortly after taking possession to fix a leak between two joints on the condenser exhaust side. The guy did not just disconnect and put it together tighter - he took the whole think apart and reglued every joint until the risk of leak was removed. This was awesome service, and they covered for free since the system was technically under warrantee. I screwed up because at the time I was unaware that the system was showing an error code. I should have guessed because the furnace was never able to heat the house at night, especially when temperature dropped to below 25 deg F outside. I missed my free pass on the warrantee until the paperwork transferred to my name - this caused a two week delay (which got a little chilly at times. Anyways, after the warrantee transferred, I had them come out again and fix the error code. The technician found the root cause of the issue and fixed it on the spot: a misadjusted second stage pressure switch. Now the house is nice and warm and I can even invite my mother over without getting a lecture about how I need to keep the house warmer for the baby. I went ahead and purchased the added 5 year warrantee extension for around $625 and the annual service for $179. I was impressed with them enough to trust their continued service of the system. I like the company and the people they have sent out to service the equipment thusfar. The person in the office who handles warrantees had to put up with my whining after Trane/American Standard Warrantee Corporation took almost two weeks to cash my check and transfer the warrantee - that was not her fault, but she checked the company's warrantee database everytime until finally I showed up. I like companies that do their job, and this is a small privately held company that I wish they would clone. I would recommend them to a friend without reservations.
Description of Work: Warrantee service of existing furnace, purchase of annual service plan, and purchase of 5 year extended warrantee (technically 10 years from the date of first installation)

It's working well after they fixed it. We looked at various options but we decided to repair as opposed to replacing it with a new faucet, and it made sense to move forward with the repair that they did. They were prompt and we were satisfied.

Arrived on time. Was familiar with our Kohler product despite its 25 year age. Other plumbers in the past have not been able to help but Randy adjusted the parts until they functioned. We expected to have to order new parts but that proved unnecessary. The whole operation took less than an hour. Angies List $25.00 discount coupon was applied..

After having to call B&W in two emergency situations, we've learned that they are quick to respond - even on call on a holiday. On New Year's Day, one of the plumbers came to the house immediately, diagnosed the major issue with the sewer line (by using the camera he had with him), and referred us to an excavator. He went above and beyond by marking where he thought the roots were causing the problem with the exterior sewer line. Additionally, he didn't charge us, even though it was on a holiday!

Wonderful experience! Plumber Dave was able to come out the same day and deal with the problem. Other companies I called didn't have the right equipment or couldn't come out immediately. Dave came during the promised window of time and was very personable. He also patiently answered my numerous questions and offered different solutions to deal with the ongoing problem. I plan to use them again in the future.

The toilet was repaired correctly. I identified the icemaker line as being the source of the leak in the kitchen. The technician, David, said he would inspect and found that it was in fact the icemaker line. I told him that because of the age of the refrigerator, I just wanted to have it replaced. I noted (3) times it is just better to replace the entire line and that I preferred to do so. He said I would need to have an appliance company do this. When I said I would just call an appliance company, he said the patch he could apply would work and his exact words were “this patch will hold for now”. I told him I preferred to just have him leave it and have the appliance company replace the line. He advised that the patch would last 6 months. The patch he put on did not last (6) days before major leaks began. The leak became so bad that the water went through to the basement and led the ceiling to cave in. His false statement of guaranteeing the patch would hold led to a large amount of damage. (3) people were there that heard him say the patch would last (6) months. I would have been fine with him just performing the toilet repair, which I repeatedly suggested but he was adament that the patch would hold. When I called the company, the owner suggested that I call my insurance company. The $1,000 deductible to pay would not make sense as it was less than $1,000 of damage. There were 3 other people people who were witnesses that can attest David confirmed the patch would hold. The whole time I told him if he couldn't fix the line to just leave it alone and I would have the appliance company do the work. Also, in my conversation with the owner, Beth on the phone, she told me she did not care and to call my insurance company, as she would not do a thing about it. The work oder provided by David said that there was a pin sized hole in the water line to the refrigerator and that an appliance company would need to look at it. Also, the work order was not signed by David.

Response from B & W Plumbing Heating And Air Conditioning Co Inc
January 29, 2013 Response to Pamela Chaney Millard Review On December 28,2012 we received a message from our answering service from Camille Dunne requesting service for Pam Chaney at 3302 Delta Drive address. The request was to repair an icemaker line and toilet that runs continuously. Below is the response from David McDonough the plumber at Member's home. “Upon arrival Camille Dunn, Pamela Chaney and another gentleman were there and showed me the damage to the ceiling from the refrigerator line. There was approximately 2-foot hole in the drywall caused by the leak. The plumber asked if they had shut the water off, the answer was no and then was told it only leaks when you get water from the door. I then told Member it was an appliance problem and she needed to get an appliance repair company. She insisted it was the water line to the refrigerator. I told her it would be $75 for me to pull out the refrigerator and show her the plumbing line was not leaking. She said ok. After pulling out the refrigerator it showed my diagnosis to be correct and informed her she would need to call an appliance repair company. I put electrical tape on the pex line to mark where the leak was. This line is built inside the refrigerator and is not standard plumbing size of pex. She told me she had an appliance company to contact. They asked me how long the tape would last, I told them I could not answer that. It might last a day or it could last 6 months but they need to contact an appliance repair man now. I repaired the toilet on 2nd floor and showed her cleaning person and maintenance man how the other toilets could be fixed if needed.” On January 4th at approximately 2:30 pm Camille Dunn called our office and I spoke to her. She told me the refrigerator had started leaking again. I read the work order and asked if they had contacted an appliance repair company. She said they had not because they thought the tape David had put on the line would hold for 6 months. I told her I would have David contact her. He called the number she left and received her voice mail. He left her a message and never received return call. On January 14th Member contacted our office and I spoke to her. She indicated that the refrigerator had started leaking again. I reviewed her work order and confirmed she did sign the workorder. On the workorder David had written” Water line to door drinking water has a pin hole. Odd size line on fridge not ¼” and 3/8” in between, temp fix must have appliance man look at. “ She agreed that was on the copy she signed. She indicated that the basement ceiling damage was caused by David’s repair. She then told me her husband took Angie’s List public and was the chairman of the business division of Barnes and Thornburg. She said we would be “toast on Angie’s List”. I never told her I did not care. I would never say that to any customer because it is not true. Both personally and professionally, I care deeply that we provide excellent service. I know there are times when a solution cannot be reached immediately. I felt this was one of those times. I knew the ceiling was down when we arrived for the call. I told her since we could not agree on liability, I would contact our insurance company and she should do the same. The insurance companies would determine the liability. We did contact our insurance company. We strongly disagree with Member's assessment of this situation. I told the B&W phone receptionist that I needed an estimate for replacing a residential toilet tank kit. I described the problem that I was having and she connected me with a plumber. I told the plumber the toilet was in a 13 year old home and that the handle was difficult to push in order to flush the toilet. I told him toilet tank repair kits to rebuild the mechanicals in the tank were around $20 at Home Depot, but I wanted an estimate for B&W to do the work. He asked me what kind of toilet it is and I replied that it is a Mansfield. He then gave me a price of $450.00 to install the new toilet tank kit!! I reminded him that the kit was only around $20? He said that he would replace it with a Mansfield kit instead of a universal kit like the one from Home Depot. I asked how much the Mansfield kit was and he said $35. So $415.00 labor to switch out the toilet tank mechanicals??! I told him that I thought this estimate was awfully high and he then said, ?wait a minute, I am looking at a different sheet now, so it would be $350.00.? I was no happier with that ridiculous price so he then said that if he were to only replace the flush valve, it would be $195.00. He said that 99% of the time, it is the flush valve causing this problem. I was convinced that B&W was absolutely trying to take me for as much money as they could, so I told him I needed to make additional calls for estimates and we politely hung up. I then Googled the flush valve issue with hard-to-flush Mansfield toilets and found that his clue would fix our toilet for $1.78 plus tax. Thanks to the plumber?s clue, a quick Google search revealed that this is a very common problem with Mansfield toilets and that there is a very easy and inexpensive fix. This search even gave me a two minute YouTube video showing me how to replace this very inexpensive seal. We then bought the recommended red rubber seal from Home Depot for $1.78 - this installed just below the existing flush valve in under 5 minutes and no tools were needed at all. In summary, I absolutely believe that every company deserves to make a fair profit. However, B&W tried to take us to the bank on this one. With tax, we paid $1.99 for this repair. We expect that the plumber at B&W well knew that this was no $450.00, $350.00 or $195.00 repair, but those were the prices that B&W quoted me and those were the prices that B&W would have collected. I can tell you that the next time I need a professional plumber, I will certainly not be calling B&W.
Description of Work: Called to get estimate on installing toilet tank repair kit. Described the problem and asked what the approximate cost would be for repair.

Response from B & W Plumbing Heating And Air Conditioning Co Inc
January 31,2013 Member spoke to our licensed plumber Aaron. Here is Aaron’s recollection of the conversation. “Customer called and said toilet handle was sticking. I asked him what kind of toilet he had. He said Mansfield. I informed him most likely he would only have to change the gasket. He said he had never made any repairs to this toilet and he wanted to replace all the parts. I told him to replace all the parts except the china would be $300-$320. This would be using Mansfield parts. He thought that price was high. I did inform him we would use genuine parts. I again said normally all that is needed is to change the gasket and the fill valve. Our price to provide and install those parts is $193.27. I then told him the steps to do it and how to take the diaphragm apart. He then said he would call us if he needed us. “ This is why many companies will not quote prices over the phone. The homeowner is describing their perspective of the problem. When quoting tasks we have not seen we feel it is better to err on the higher side. It is better to arrive at the home and determine the price is less than more. We use menu pricing so we can always diagnosis the problem and quote the price prior to doing the work. It is consumers’s right to determine if the price equals their perceived value. Every employee in our plumbing service department is a licensed journeyman plumber. All have had a minimum of 4 years of school and continual education to stay current with new products and technologies. As Member acknowledges the technical knowledge Aaron freely shared helped him solve this problem. I am disturbed by Member's assumption of our intention. In 2010, Member was selling his home and his realtor was familiar with our company. They had just a few days before closing to correct rusted ducts in the crawl space. When we completed the work, Member sent the following email “I wanted to send you a quick note to thank you for the outstanding service that you provided today. Not only was your response time fantastic but our technician, Brandon Miller, is a true professional and the quality of his work and professional demeanor are much appreciated. B&W’s true “customer service” and quality of workmanship is what all homeowners look for in a service company, but don’t always find. We will be using B&W in the future and we will also be spreading the word about the quality services that your company provides. Thanks again. Rob & Carol Payne” Beth Rovazzini President

B&W accepted the $25 Angies List coupon. Plumber arrived and replaced most of the hardware in the faucet and provided a 2 year warranty. Work was done well and professionally. For 20 minutes of work, I believe this repair is overpriced in the charge fee for plumbing repair based on service performed rather than time worked.

I called B&W just after 8 in the morning and they had a plumber to the house before noon; excellent service. I had the same plumber out a few months ago and he did a fine job again. Had to use the electric drain machine to get down into the drain system and unclog it. Discovered that the drain collar in the sink was broken and coming apart; leaking, so he replaced that also. Got $25 off with Angie's List coupon, too.

Great. I called on SAturday night not even expecting to talk to someone. The after hours service was great and she was very professional. A plumber called me back within 15 minutes and told me the price difference for Sundays versus Mondays. We decided to wait until Monday. He said he could fit me in first thing on Monday. Monday morning he called me and got to my house even earlier than he had originally told me. He was professional. Wore shoe covers and explained what he was doing. Took care of our 3 plumbing issues. Would definitely use again.

Plumber informed me thoroughly as to what he was going to do, and some possible risks involved as our home is over 100 years and some of the cast iron pipes are quite old. Heater was installed in about 2 hours, old one removed and plumber spent time showing me how to light the new type of gas pilot light, as well as some maintenance tips. Heater has 6-year warranty for parts and labor. Very Pleased with B&W Plumbing.

Given that our home was completely re-done inside after we purchased it, doing such messy work as replacing toilets, pumps and water heater could have been a disaster but both Plumber Dave (toilets, water heater, sump pump) and Plumber Mike (lift pump) were extremely conscious of keeping the work area and any walk paths clean. They are very responsive and punctual. This last job (water heater) was scheduled within two days after the call (could have been sooner but we asked for Plumber Dave since he was familiar with our home). I have not priced other plumbing companies because of the level of trust that B&W has established. As far as I can tell they are competitive. The cost for the 75 gal water heater might have been on the high side based on some online costs, but when you find a service provider that is responsive and thorough you really don't care. I was able to negotiate a better price when I installed the 3 toilets based on getting some cost estimates for the toilets. We like B&W so much we are probably going to switch over our HAC maintenance contract to them when current one expires. Their price was significantly less than the current company providing that service.
Description of Work: We purchased a new home in 2011 and have had a series of "replacements" that need to be done. So far we have replaced 3 toilets, lift pump, sump pump and most recently a 75 gallon water heater.

Our kitchen sink was not draining at all and this caused burping and pooling of water in our utility room drain for the hot water heater. I called B&W Plumbing on Sunday. 'Plumber Dave' arrived at my house within an hour of my call. He cleared a significant blockage in our kitchen drain running across the length of our foundation. He was done in 90 minutes and everything is draining perfectly now. I would definitely recommend using B&W and 'Plumber Dave'.
Description of Work: Cleared a significant clog in our kitchen drain.
