Most of the time the system seems to work OK, although occasionally it goes down at night for unknown reasons. Mainly my complaint is with Customer Service. Recently I received an error message, that contact was lost with my siren alarm. This is an alarm that calls the Fire Department when it senses that a smoke alarm has gone off. I called Customer Service, and was told that I need a 3 volt lithium battery, I don't remember the name of it, but it cost $9 on sale! When we climbed up to change the battery, we found that what was really needed was a CR 2450, which is far less expensive. When I called Customer Service, they said, "oh well, we don't have any batteries in stock, just take it back and ask for a refund." They were not concerned at all that employees are giving misinformation to customers! As if this wasn't bad enough...they sent a survey to my email address, but it was addressed to my neighbor, instead of to me.....and they even spelled my neighbor's last name wrong!

From Day 1 issues. My residence is NOT condusive for having the monitors which by the way is NOT cordless. The installer gave me a key chain finding that it did not work, the system goes out randomly providing me with an email. I have placed calls to this company religious monthly with another issue. I was on vacation in July, called to let them know that I was out of town so that they could come to my residence right away if the alarm went out. Well at the end of July/early August guess what I found out? Although I was being charged for the monitoring service, my security system was NOT activated. Something about a permit from my city which is NOT applicable. However they installed the system in my residence without it AND never let me know that my system was not yet active. I found out on my own. The issue surfaced this week is that the door that I utilize the most [garage door] the sensor randomly works. Working in the evening when I get home from work which I was advised to call but then again this morning I had to bypass the garage door to activate the system. After locking my door I waited to ensure that the system was active. It wasn't as the alarm sounded. I have had several home security systems and by far this is the worse! I am looking forward to when I can walk away and go back to a credible usable security system. I am not confident that this system will EVER be of use to me and the time it takes for resolving when the solution is send out replacement equipment....
Description of Work: Installed the Home Security System in my residence May 2015. I love technology and the advertisement showed home monitoring that you can monitor from your phone.

I had the system since about 2008. It was easy to install but have had multiple technical problems. Firstly, it frequently "loses" the sensors and I received a "sensor out of range" message; however, the sensors had not been moved and I have a small 1 story house. I purchased new sensors and batteries but found the same issue. Secondly, it reads a "no internet connection" message frequently despite the fact I've only had internet service outage one time. I have high speed internet through my cable provider and have not had issues with streaming video, etc. Their customer service reps are very nice and professional when you can reach them. You're frequently on hold for extended periods of time and their online troubleshooting and support is non-existent. I had hoped when Direct purchased the company, the service would improve; however that was not the case. I've recently moved but didn't take the system with me and am currently shopping for replacement product.
Description of Work: it was a self-install system, so the provider only sent the devices and installation instructions.

I am beginning to think that all these ?wireless? alarm companies that offer their service are the same. Prior to dealing with these ?wireless? alarm companies we came from a home that had a wired alarm system which was installed back in 1996. All of these years we had ZERO issues, and the only thing we needed to do occasionally was replace the back up battery. But sadly we no longer live in that home and I guess those days are over and now everyone is going ?wireless?. The first company we decided to try was Comcast Home Security for their bundle packaging. This relationship didn?t last 48 hours after I was awoken at 3:30 in the morning to a malfunctioning device. But this review isn?t about Comcast Home Security, it?s about LifeShield. But the reason I bring them up is to let everyone know that Comcast offers a 30day satisfaction period, LifeShield DOES NOT if the unit was professionally installed, and I am using professionally loosely. LifeShield showed up to house fairly quickly for the Professional Installation. The installation process took hours, for what I consider an extremely simple process. Remember, I had an entire home wired and that took an entire day, and this was almost as long. During the installation I learned that everything is taped on, even the devices that come hardware to mount to a wall like the ?motion detectors?. The motion detectors where installed at the height at which the installer could reach, no stepladder was used, probably against company policy to have an employee climbing such a dangerous device. I asked him why he wasn?t using the screws and his replay was they?re not allowed. Then during the installation I learned we were NOT getting a smoke and fire detector, rather we are getting a smoke and fired detector monitor. Keeping in mind, once again, that our old wired system had a perfectly operating smoke and fire detection system. The only thing I can guess is that they don?t want the lability of your house burning down, see with this monitor they can place the blame on your existing smoke and fire detection if it never goes off. So after all this the Professional Installer leaves. Within a days time the motion detector fell off the wall, leaving me to screw it into place after raising it to the proper height. We have owned this system for just about a month now, and I have needed to call LifeShield every week, sometimes multiple times. Either a unit wasn?t functioning properly, the understanding how the cameras work, or paying for monitoring when the unit was in ?practice mode?. So let me try and break all this down. One of the first calls was about the security cameras (2) that came with the system. I had mounted them in the garage to monitor my vehicles and tools when the door might be open. I tried to figure out how to get the video to playback with no luck. I called, told them what I was trying to accomplish, I was then informed that the camera are not surveillance camera and rather security camera that only come on when ?triggered?. So, I asked them what triggers them? An alarm event. Well that defeats the purpose of what I am trying to do, they then suggested getting a motion detector in the garage to act as the trigger. Well that means I have to spend more money on the system, but hey if it does the trick no big deal. The motion detecters show up, I add one to an additional room and the other one to the garage camera. All is good, for now. Keeping with the cameras, a week or two passes and I noticed one of the cameras went off line, I didn?t have the time to figure it out. And a week later our wireless router had a major problem and it needed to reset to the factory settings. Router was up and running but now both cameras are off line. I call again only to be told I need to plug them into the router with a CAT6 cable to reset them. This after I had hard wired these camera in my garage with split loom and zip ties and screws that their ?professional installer? wasn?t allowed to use! I about blew a gasket and told them I was not going to do that and if I am going to uninstall them I am canceling my service agreement and sending everything back. Yeah, about that! They only offer a 7day satisfaction period if I installed the system and 0day satisfaction period if it was ?professionally installed?. So it?s either pay them $500 plus dollars or deal with it. We agreed for me send the cameras back and canceling the camera service. But now I have a motion detection unit in our garage with nothing to do. So I decided to hookup the motion to the ?instant on? mode of the alarm. Since the garage door to the house was instant, then if someone gets into my garage using a remote or force the motion will detect it and sound the alarm. Well, thats not an option! I can only have motion set to ?stay and away? only! That doesn?t work! I park vehicles in the garage, sometimes I come home and don?t go into the house right away, and I don?t want to worry about tripping the alarm. Their suggestion is to use the remote keychain pad, which I will not ever use because there?s zero security protection. If someone gets their hands on the key fob and your address the party is over. Also their smart phone app also has zero security protection, it never logs or times out automatically. Anyone can grab your phone, open the app and turn the alarm off. It is not alarm.com app that requires a 4 digit PIN every time it is opened. The latest event was me coming home just 15minutes after arming the system to have the remote key pad not communicating with the base unit, this triggered a false alarm. I have also had the user pad not communicating with the base pad, the alarm was off but it was still beeping and not accepting the PIN number. All this in just a month?s time! That last thing I want to point out that made me very unhappy was the City Alarm Permit and ?Practice Mode?. I called LifeShield to ask why the unit was still in practice mode only to be told they will not release it from ?Practice? until the permit is on file. I told them I submitted the paperwork to the city, their reply was it was illegal from them to turn the alarm on before I had a permit number. WHICH WAS A COMPETE LIE! The city only required the permit be filled within 30days of alarm installation and activation, which it was. For all I knew it was going to take weeks for the city to file the application. Which brought up the FACT that I was paying for monitoring when in fact LifeShield WAS NOT monitoring our home! After arguing with them for almost 30 minutes they finally agreed to wave the month?s monitoring fee. This should have been a no-brainer! In between all this there have been some more Mickey Mouse issues that are not really worth the time to get into. But beware with LifeShield or any other ?wireless? alarm company, they are not at all what I was expecting or became accustomed to. My expectations were set high from past experience and LifeShield and Comcast Home Security have fallen extremely short all the while locking us into a multi-year contract.

Just got off the phone with Megan (LifeSHIELD Customer Care), who was EXCELLENT! She immediately told me that I should not be charged for additional sensors or service calls since I was a "bundled" customer w/DirectTV and LifeSHIELD! She told me that she ordered additional sensors for me, and I would not be charged for them or the service call to have them installed! She also told me that I should not have had to pay for the window decals I purchased five months ago! Megan said she would contact me tomorrow and schedule the service call appointment, and make sure my sensors were on their way! I hope I get everything as promised, and everything is taken care of at no charge .... fingers crossed ..
Description of Work: After having new windows installed, I took advantage of an offer for DirectTV customers for a wireless home security alarm with LifeSHIELD, which would reduce my monthly DirectTV bill by $10. This was November 2014. I've had nothing but problems since. The equipment seems faulty. I've gotten numerous bogus readings and msgs on my Dashboard. I've encountered a "not ready" msg because it showed a door or window was open, when it actually wasn't. My Dashboard showed it was ready to arm a few minutes earlier, and no windows or doors had been open since. Other times, I've come home, with the alarm set, but when enter my door, the beeping noise that tells me I've got 60 secs to disarm my system, never sounded! When I walked into my house and looked at the touchpad, the alarm is still armed! Other times, I couldn't set my alarm because either the screen was frozen or I would receive a bogus msg. When I'm trying to set my alarm, it's because I'm going to bed or I'm leaving the house. I don't always have the time to call LifeSHIELD every time I have an issue with my system. I have called LifeSHIELD on numerous occasions, and their customer service/tech support is usually pretty good. But my frustrations are primarily with the equipment and the bogus msgs/readings I frequently get. One time I kept receiving a Low Battery msg on my keypad. I was told that it was okay, but giving a bogus msg. Then another time I was told that my keypad had an old version of their app on it (two months after they installed my system), and had to swap it out. When my system was initially installed, the package only came with 9 sensors, and I was told that I needed to pay $28 for each additional sensor I needed. Technician said he could put the motion detector up in one of my bedrooms that had three windows. That way, it would eliminate the need for three additional sensors. I didn't realize until later what a problem that would be. That meant I couldn't go into that bedroom, if my alarm was set! Then a couple of weeks ago, one of the sensors fell off the window, and into my cat's litter box! Luckily, I was at home, and the alarm was not set AND that I noticed the sensor in the litter box before my cat buried it! I called LifeSHIELD to come and put the sensor back up since the adhesive tape would no longer stick. I was told that LifeSHIELD come come out, but they would charge me. (They apparently charge for every little thing -- even their LifeSHIELD window decals! I had to pay for those since I only received 2 when my alarm was installed.) LifeSHIELD suggested I just buy two-sided tape and put the sensor back up myself. So that's what I did. But when I attempted to put the sensor back up, I realized WHY it fell off! The spot where the installer taped the (smaller) sensor was on the vertical part of the sliding window, which doesn't actually have enough room to fit the sensor when the window is closed! So for the past 6 months I was opening and closing the window, I kept slamming the sensor into the frame of the stationary window, thus unknowingly loosening it until it fell off. Not sure WHY the installer taped the sensors at that particular spot on the window. He taped the sensors on the bottom of the window in my kitchen, and it's fine. It's been a very frustrating six months with my LifeSHIELD system, but I'm locked in to a two-year contract. I plan to switch to another alarm company ASAP. I never put my review in Angie's list because it never occurred to me that LifeSHIELD would be listed with Angie's list. I only found out today, when I was on LifeSHIELD's website, searching for their phone number. Their phone number is easy to find on their website, but when you're logged into their system, it's impossible to find! I plan to call LifeSHIELD today to ask them to come out and move and replace the sensor that was improperly installed, and to re-connect and configure the keypad that was sent to me a couple of months ago. I will also request that I not be charged for this. If I am, I will escalate.

I called the company because I'm a new customer. I bundle my cable, internet and home phone number with Direct TV and ATT and they offer me the security system with LifeShield. I was an ADT customer for 10 years and no problem but only have a basic service, only main entrance alarm and a motion detector. I signed up with Life Shield on 12/2014 but the service did not start until 1/03/2015. Since then we've been having problems with false alarm, disconnected services, incorrect information in their system that made us unable to verified out identity and they dispatch police to my house. The system motion detector is not working properly and set the alarm off three times. Due to this false alarm the city is charging me $200.00 for false alarm fees. Life Shield does not recognize the motion detector is not working properly they said things in my house trigger the movement. Although they offer a replacement they did not want to give me a letter as a proof that I've been having problems with a defective motion detector so I can file an appeal with the city. I decline the new motion detector because I work and I can't have time off for an installer get on my house to install a new sensor I explained to them how frustrating is my experience with the service they provided so far .I requested to cancel the service because I've only been with the service for a moth and I having so many troubles. Even my husband had to get time off from his job to make these calls and the policy patrol in my house a couple of time. They remind me that I have a contract for 3 years and that I need to pay a $500.00 fee if I want to cancel. As of right now I have a bill of $200.00 dollars from the city and three years ahead of me of bad service due to my ignorance about this so new company. Please do not sign up for LifeShield security system. What they offer sound good but what they delivery is not. Very frustrating with this service It took me more than an hour on the phone and a conversation with three people to realize I'm trap with this bad service company.

I was aware that I would have to install the equipment myself, however, it was a very easy process. It only took maybe 30 minutes to install it and I have it on 3 doors and also have it on several windows. I am very pleased with their service and like that they give you yard and window signs and decals. I would highly recommend this service to others and find their rates to be reasonable. They also have an added feature that if your smoke detector goes off, they will alert your local fire department and the same thing for a possible break in, they alert your police department. This company has been very helpful and informative with questions and issues I've had thus far. I actually had to call them because I had not received a couple alarm triggers for my windows, and when I called they were very helpful and had those shipped right away. They have great customer service. Also, if you move, you can take the alarm system with you.

I have always paid my monthly bill for more than five years. I pay it with my credit union VISA debit card. Every two years, my credit union issues me a new VISA card with a new expiration date. In July, they issued me a new card. In August I got an email from Lifeshield that my card had been declined. So I immediately logged into my LifeShield account and updated the card info. This morning, around 8AM, the LifeShield security system started emitting a very loud shrill beep. It awoke me and my wife. There was no way to stop the beeping. There was just a message to call LifeShield. I called LifeShield, and they informed me that they would only turn off the loud beeping if I paid them. LifeShield used my security system to invade the sanctity and peace of my home. They used the security system to extort me -- either I paid them or they would destroy the peace of my home. The irony is that they were wrong -- I had already updated my VISA card info, so they could have charged my card. They did not try to call me to talk to me before they applied their invasive extortion tactic. The security system is supposed to make my family feel secure in our home, but LifeShield used the security system to attack us in our home. There are few times in life that I have been so angry and felt so violated. LifeShield has refused to tell me that they will not again set off my alarm system for reasons other than a security threat. Years ago when I installed my LifeShield Security system, I really liked and trusted them. But a few years ago, they were taken ever by management from NutriSystem. Now what does a diet company have to do with the security of my home???

The Technician called me the night before and let me know what time he would arrive and he was actually early compared to what he stated, he did give me a 20 minutes heads up and he was prompt. He was very professional and carried proper identification that told me he was who he said he was and it made me happy to see that level of security. The LifeShield system is designed to be installed by the home owner, so my cost was additional because I wanted it installed professionally. The Lifeshield people were great. They did not pressure me at all and in fact wanted me to shop around for my system. I called two other companies and both of them pressured me trying to get me to buy right then. At that point I decided that Lifeshield was the company for me. They have excellent reviews on the Consumer Advocate Website and they provided all my equipment at no charge. The only cost to me was the instillation and the monthly charge which was similar no matter whose system I would have gotten.

Do not buy this sytem! We purchased it for my mother inlaw because it touted the fact that it did not need internet service and was simple to use. We waited for 6 plus months for a piece of the equipement to make the product work (never arrived) while getting billed. My husband spent HOURS and HOURS on the phone with customer support. The first few calls promised the missing pieces ASAP. The last few calls were trying to stop the 'service' and get a refund. The 'service' was stopped but the refund was never given. All wanted to do was get a little piece of mind for my mother inlaw and all we ended up with was lies, more lies, failed service and just crap customer care. Please do NOT go with life shield.

There were 3, they worked poorly and I spent a lot of time on the phone with Lifeview trying to get the cameras to work. They sent me a new one, and they were nice, however, I did not purchase this to spend hours a day trying to make it work. I finally just stopped using it. I purchased this system in August 2013. In February 2014, I ask to cancel my service since it does not work. They agreed to cancel the service, however I would have to pay the full $2400 for the full service agreement, regardless of it usefulness . If you are looking for a system. Please don't buy this one. This is an incredible scam.

12-19-14. Just got off the phone with LifeShield after discussing the Angie's List promotion. THE OFFER AND WEBSITE INFO ARE NO LONGER ACCURATE! According to the customer service rep, "many changes have occurred in the past week." Apparently, LifeShield has merged with DirectTV and cellular redundancy is no longer offered. That was a "deal breaker" for me. Per the rep, if your internet goes down or is cut, the local alarm will sound (and perhaps scare the intruder away), but your home is not monitored and police will not be called. The rep says they'll know more after January 1, so beware of ordering before LifeShield gets things together>

At first, LifeShield looked appealing to me and was one of four companies I researched. Their equipment has one of the lowest up front costs. However, the only way they can do that is to lock you in a contract of up to 5 years. Although the monthly fees are reasonable, over the course of 5 years, the total cost of the alarm (equipment and fess) end up being no bargain. In addition to that, the people I dealt with did not leave a good impression on me. On a couple of occasions, when I called I ended up with someone who had no clue and was not able to answer even simple questions. Then when I asked to be transferred to someone else, I ended up with what seemed like a used car salesman who was just after closing the sale. I felt pressured and when I continued to ask more questions, he was impatient, and started losing interest. In the end I did enough research to conclude that LifeShield was not for me.

[removed member name] Thanks for taking the time to leave a review about LifeShield. In fact, we offer 3 AND 5 year contracts for each of our different packages. The 5 year is a bit lower because you are locking in a lower rate for a longer period of time. I am very sorry to hear you did not get a good feeling with our LifeShield sales folks. They are here to help with any questions and are very well-versed on the technology behind our system. If you would like to give us a second chance, please reply to me directly and I will appoint someone specifically to help you answer any questions you have about LifeShield. Sincerely, Alex Customer Reviews Manager, LifeShield

So I got this through an Angie's List deal. Seems like kind of a cheap system but takes advantage of the internet. I like that you can add on other elements at a later time. The installer was like 17 years old and just not very "polished" Nice enough guy but not sure he was super well trained. Certainly an opportunity for improvement there. The system itself uses a lot of sticky tape and pulgs into a standard outlet. The whole thing just seems sort of cheap.

Hi (removed member name), Thanks for taking the time to review LifeShield. Our system offers the latest in home security technology, and uses a strong adhesive to attach to doors and windows so you don't have to drill holes in your walls and door frames to attach it. This also allows you to take your system with you if you ever move to a new home. Similarly, the system plugs into a regular outlet so you don't have to drill and put loads of wires behind your wall to hardwire it (also a feature of being able to take it with you and not have permanently wired systems in your home). Thanks for becoming a valued LifeShield customer! Best, Alex Customer Reviews Manager, LifeShield

I called specifically wanting a professionally installed system. Not interested in a Do - it - yourself system. They did not specify this AT ALL when I asked when purchasing the contract. I got the equipment and out of curiosity opened the box and started installing it myself. I realized that the equipment seemed flimsy when I placed it on my doors and windows and I personally did not feel secure. I called to pursue the professional installation and lo and behold, it's not available where I live. Just called and cancelled the service. Wish I would have been told about this from the beginning and I would have not pursued anything with them. Otherwise, they are always very attentive and nice, just NOT the product I was looking for.

Hi (Member name removed), Thanks for taking the time to leave a review for LifeShield! I'm sorry to hear the system did not work out for you. Despite your feeling the system was not what you thought, it is a well designed system with more than 20 patents on our wireless technology and proprietary equipment, all designed to work together seamlessly. Most customers who come to LifeShield choose us because we are an easy-to-install DIY security system. We also offer installation services to customers who prefer to have the system installed for them, though we would not have offered you an installation at time of sale because a recently enacted change in Texas state law requires new licensing and background procedures be completed to be a licensed alarm installer. Our installation professionals are currently obtaining these additional licenses and other approvals from the state of Texas. Until then, we can not offer installation to customers who reside in TX. Cheers, and have a great day. Sincerely, Alex Customer Reviews Manager, LifeShield

The system is installed by the Customer...however it is very simple and you can contact Life Shield for assistance. I never had to wait long and the Technician was very thorough in answering all my questions and walking me through the process. The website is great and it lets me set or disarm my system remotely for when I have family dropping by unexpectantly.

I think this says a great deal about the quality of the product they have. While the service is ok, I finally gave up on hardware and bought two "different brand" cameras that provide the service I expect. In fact, I feel that had I been afforded a 30 days trial period (not the customary 7), I might have opted not to buy this service plan because the new cameras I bought do exactly what I expect. Now I am stuck with an iron clad contract for service that is of very little use to me. I am very disappointed.
Description of Work: This was s service support telephone call. I called to inquire about how long it would take to get refunded for two cameras that did not work. I was told it takes a while to log them in, even though one was sent back and received over 3 weeks ago, and the other was sent back and received 8/26/2012. ) I had UPS tracking for both cameras to be safe). I was told that they are backlogged in logging in returned items.

I rented a single family home in 2011 already equiped with an ADT home security system. Since I was renting, ADT would not accept me as a customer and referred me to LifeShield. Lifeshield required a three-year contract, which was fine with me at the time since I planned to remain in the home for at least three years. After my experience dealing with ADT, the idea of a self-installed system was appealing. However, I am now moving to a home with a complete security system already installed and called LifeShield customer service about termination fees. After a long period on hold (common with this company) the rep said I essentially have to buy out the remainder of the contract or make an arrangement with the new tenant. No complaints, I new this going into the contract. However, this is the last time I enter into any long-term contract with an alarm company. The few alarms I experienced were handled well by the monitoring company (contracted by Lifeshield). On several occassions I purchased additional equipment, i.e. window sensors, motion sensors, wireless keychains, extra batteries, etc. Two new window sensors failed immediately but were replaced by calling customer service. Both failed again later, as did the wireless keychains. Customer service referred me to a phone number to contact to troubleshoot the sensors. It was difficult to connect; long phone tree (push 1 for this, 2 for that, etc.); kept on hold forever; ran out of time to wait on hold. I eventually just bought new sensors and replaced the wireless keychains. I did try replacing the batteries on the sensors and keychains twice without success. The extra batteries I order from LifeShield were clearly on the shelf too long. They failed almost immediately so I bought replacements from a local battery store. I may try customer service again if I have an hour to kill. Lesson learned: go local. There are several reputable local alarm companies in the area, with high ratings on Angie's List, which do not require long-term contracts; locally owned and operated. Deciding now whether to just buy out the contract and move on, or install the LifeShield system in the new home. Leaning toward the buy out. My contact with customer service did nothing to convince me to remain with the company.

Heard about Lifeshield from a web forum, emailed the sales rep as a referral and the referrer was able to get $150 while I got a free network camera. The network camera's quality is average at best ... they've since changed the referral program so the new subscriber now gets $100 store credit. Anywho, after emailing the rep with questions and requirements, getting on the phone to do the credit check, I got a kit to try out delivered to me. I installed the base unit and connected the telephone line and ethernet cable (to internet), associated the GSM unit for the backup cell service, and installed the door/window sensors and motion sensors. After about a week, I noticed the GSM unit kept losing signal, I emailed tech support and told them about the issue, did some troubleshooting with them which didn't fix the issue, and a replacement GSM unit was send to me. While that was happening, I noticed the broadband wasn't working ... turns out they had different starter kits: "Home Essentials Kit - Cell Ready" and a "Home Essentials Kit with Broadband" ... I was sent the wrong one. They replaced that and everything has been fine since. A couple of notes: - I believe the sensor batteries are covered by Lifeshield for the length of the lease. I had one die at the start of my contracted period, and they just sent a new battery after I emailed support. The console will tell you which sensor has a dying battery. - I was without electricity for 5.5 days after Sandy hit. The base and GSM units have backup batteries in them, so my system was still connected for 4 days. I was on the phone with my friends checking my house 4 days after Sandy hit and I didn't know if the alarm was still working since I couldn't connect to it via the webpage nor app ... it was, about 30 seconds after they opened the basement door, the monitoring service called about the alarm! So the base was able to keep functioning with the GSM unit!
Description of Work: Bought the alarm system and central monitoring service from Lifeshield. Protection One is the central monitoring station that they're currently using.

They sent us the supplies and we install it by ourselves and it was very, very to install. After we installed it we called them to activate it. We could turn it on and off through our phone.
