Dave Wilson has assembled a team of knowledgeable employees who responded to my emergency promptly and took decisive actions to remediate my water damage in a manner to aid the speed of restoration and minimize the cost! They are a family owned business specializing in fast and effect dry-out and reconstruction service. They are big enough to do the job and small enough to care!
Description of Work: I own a custom home built less than 8 years ago and have unfortunately suffered two different episodes of significant water damage resulting from toilet supply line failures to two different upstairs bathrooms in my home. The first episode occurred in September 2008 causing approximately $30,000 worth of damage. The second episode occurred in July 2009 and caused over $100,000 worth of damage requiring my family and I to relocate to a temporary living space for over eight weeks. In both cases I called upon the expertise and courteous service of A&D Hydra Clean.

They came out and gave us a ridiculously high estimate. We decided to go with the company and the man from the company said that the final price would not go over the estimate. After all of the work was said and done we received another surprise bill for five hundred dollars. They gave us an estimate for how long the work would take and during the project they told us that it would actually have to take longer for all of the work to be completed. In the end the project took less time than they originally estimated and they used no extra materials so there was no reason to charge us an extra five hundred dollars for the project. They were overpriced for the work from the beginning, but to throw on an extra bill was ridiculous. I would have graded them better had they left the bill that they were supposed to. We got everything ready for Friday, because we needed to be out of the house. They called because they could not rent the truck and said that they would do the work Monday. Monday they called and said that they could not to the work Monday, because they could not rent the truck. We had to work around their schedule in the end. They were on time when they finally got everything scheduled. They were professional with their appearance and their speech; however they were not professional about handling the project with the price and the scheduling.
Description of Work: A & D Hydra Clean Inc. gave me and estimate. They did complete the cleaning.

Response from A & D Hydra Clean Inc
FIRST – to correct and clarify: 1.) the “cleaning” entailed extracting three month’s worth of raw sewage, effluent, and sludge from this homeowner’s crawl space, a deep putrid lake under his house. 2.) The “Approximate Cost” invoiced was $ 3267.60, not $5,000 as claimed. 3.) We never said nor implied that “the final price would not go over the estimate.” -- in fact, we were very clear about just the opposite possibility, both in writing and verbally. The staff and owners of A&D Hydra Clean genuinely appreciate the privilege and responsibility of professionally serving homeowners in central Indiana. Due to the difficult and sometimes hazardous nature of some of the unique situations we are contracted to resolve, such as was the case here, we are not always able to foresee and provide an exact up-front scope of the required work or the costs associated with it. We do give the homeowners a written estimate of the approximate range of costs and anticipated labor to complete the work. On this job, since we knew there was an indeterminate depth of raw sewage in the crawl space, we included the following on the front page of the estimate: “NOTE: This is an estimate based on initial inspection and testing. Actual procedures and equipment necessary to complete the sewer leak clean-up may vary from this estimate, affecting price”. The homeowner signed and agreed to the parameters of this estimate of $ 2694.60, paying ½ of the estimated costs up front via check and the balance of the estimated amount when we finished. Everything appeared to be satisfactory until the homeowner received the actual invoice detailing the adjusted costs for the service, including the overage of $573.60, apparently the “extra five hundred dollars for the project” the homeowner referred to in his comments. The estimate was based on our initial projections of potential volume of fluid and waste that would need to be removed. In actuality there was a much higher volume of sewage effluent and sludge, in addition to the heavier contaminated pea rock in the deeper areas. This caused the costs of the fluid waste extraction and hauling to be higher than originally estimated because the sub-contracted waste hauler charges for time on the job and also passes on to us the charges for additional weight and volume of waste hauled and disposed of. In fact, A&D absorbed a significant portion of the increased costs of the labor and waste hauling which actually exceeded the extra $573 that was billed to the homeowner. We explained all of this to the homeowner and at one point on the phone, he promised to pay off the balance due in $100 payments as he was able, starting on the third week of November. Unfortunately, even though the homeowner agreed to the terms of payment and collections as set forth in the estimate, he has not fulfilled his part of the signed contract – the $573 balance due is still outstanding. Finally, in response to the homeowner’s complaint about scheduling, we coordinated the job around the length of time required, the current weather conditions, and the protracted availability of the waste hauling rig. During this time we kept the homeowner informed of our need for a flexible schedule due to these factors. Didn’t seem to be a problem until now. Thank you for taking the time to read our response. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Should you find yourself in need of any of our services, we welcome your inquiries and would be honored by your selection of A&D Hydra Clean to help meet those needs. Dave Wilson, owner

Our son awakened us about 5:30 AM on June 5, 2009, saying, "We have an issue here." I was about half way out of our bedroom before the squishing under my feet made it clear what the issue was. In our upstaris laundry room, next to the bedroom, water was shooting up to the ceiling. The floor was about an inch deep in water. Downstairs the ceiling was raining on the dining and kitchen area laminate floor and counters. After we turned off the water and got busy with the carpet cleaner and shop vac, I started carrying wet stuff outside. Our neighbor noticed we were having a "water problem" and recommended A&D Hydra Clean based on personal experience (we weren't Angie's list members at the time). A&D responded with a completely equipped truck and a crew of 4-5 men in just a few hours. They were able to accomplish the dry out very quickly as such things go. Our carpet did not need replacement, but the laminate did. Much of the downstairs ceiling had to be replaced, painted and textured. In all phases of the dry-out and reconstruction A&D was responsive and professional. There is no sign that anything in the house is a repair instead of the original. There were always company supervisors for any contractors and the project management and follow-up was excellent. Likely there are cheaper contractors in this area, but the A&D guys are the best we've ever heard of.
Description of Work: The work performed was dry-out and reconstruction after an upstairs laundry room hose burst in the middle of the night.

After realizing our water heater blew out at the bottom and flooded the lower area, I looked up Angie's list and found A & D. The owner answered his cell phone and within a few hours had a crew here to start the clean up. Only problem, couldn't get a plumber here until Sunday. Thinking the water was off to the water heater, they proceeded to clean up and start the drying process.Early Sun. I realized that water heater was still flooding the lower level. A & D returned to remove water and start drying again. They did an excellent job overall and would use them again, but hope I don't have to for water damage.
Description of Work: removed water, cut out and removed wall board and floor trim.Remediated mold. Returned 2nd time, after the leak continued to remove water, then set dryers. Followed up daily and kept in contact on condition.

A&D was very thorough in making sure the interior walls were completely dried out before beginning the refurbishing to make sure mold wouldn't start growing. They did an excellent job in getting our house back to normal quickly both upstairs and in the kitchen. They answered all of our questions completely and were nice to work with. The refurbishing job was done very well, and we were very pleased with the results. I would recommend this company and would use them again (but hopefully I won't need to).
Description of Work: We had water damage to 2nd floor bathroom and kitchen ceiling and walls below due to water leaking in around sky light. A&D came out the same day I called to start the drying out process. They provided a detailed estimate of the clean-up and refurbishing and worked very well with my insurance carrier. My insurance company had previously worked successfully with A&D on other claims, so that made me feel I had selected a good contractor in addition to what I had read on Angie's List.

We have also found they left a bulk head full of water and fecal matter in between 2 spaces they did do remediation on. This bulk head also contained electrical wires. We have an HVAC that needs a $7000 dollar clean. We had to do more testing by a industrial hygienist. Ecoli has been found on surfaces never touched by the spill. At this point I am ready to file a criminal complaint. I have been in the emergency 3 times in the last month. I am expecting a full refund but also reimbursed for cost of cleaning HVAC system. If they don't fix them in some fashion I will report them to every city official because they are not registered only as rug and upholstery cleaners. They have no credentials to do mold remediation or general contracting. We had to leave our house because of total infestation, and had to remove all of our belongings because of the HVAC issues. August 22, 2009 Since my last communication further information and damage has come to light providing another $20,000 to $30,000. The most current industrial hygienist report (received last week) revealed strachyboctrus (black toxic mold) in "very high levels" throughout my house both on surfaces, in the air, and growing on the insulation. My entire house has been cross-contaminated including but not limited to my HVAC system and ducts. further demolition of materials revealed that portions of my ducts are flex-line and connot be cleaned. Cross-contamination has cost me an additional $15000 plus three trips to the emergency room for headaches, nausea, shortness of breath, lung pain, split vision and ringing in my ears. A and D was called to clean up a toilet water overflow which has the same protocol for remediation as mold. At the first arrival my home should have been partitioned and the HVAC should have been capped off. At the time that mold was discovered (in the first six hours of a two week job) the industrial hygienist should have been called and all work stopped until that report was complete. Rather than doing that they continued the dry-out over a two week period, scraped the mold that was there allowing it to become airbourn while my HVAC continued to run covering all of my posessions as well as the ducts with e-coli, strachyboctrus, chaetomium, corynbacterium as well as another one I cannot spell that can lead to diptheria. Al of this has been confirmed through I.H. reports. They completed all of this before they ever received an I.H. report. When confronted with these issues late in June upon discovery, their response was to instruct their employees not to speak with me at all and to not return my call at all. To date I have not spoken with the manager or the owner. They have offered no resolve, no refund, no explanation and no recourse. My insurance company paid A and D at my direction in good faith that the work was done properly - it was not.
Description of Work: They were contracted to do a water dryout and clean up of a live sewage level 3 toilet spill. When they began to pull the floor when they saw that it was beyond salvaging. Once under there they discovered a bunch of mold. At that point hey said they would be separated each section of my home, topping of the HVAC to prevent further contamination because it was a level 3 toilet spill in addition to the mold. At that point you have possibility of ecoli. Because it was level 3 they should have capped off HVAC right away, but they did not. As a result of that there is bacteria, ecoli, chaetomium and corynebacterium bacteria rolling around our HVAC.

Response from A & D Hydra Clean Inc
For nearly fifteen years as A&D Hydra Clean and twenty five years prior to that in various capacities in cleaning and construction industry, I have professionally served literally thousands of residential and commercial customers having a wide assortment of structural needs and expectations. In all those years, I can only think of one other customer with a situation that even comes close to unbelievable level of unsubstantiated allegations, gross distortions and outright misrepresenting of the facts applicable to this home and its occupants. Faulty premises always result in wrong conclusions. With rapid-fire technical terms and inaccurate chronicling and depiction of events, this customer weaves a tangled web of misapplied half-truths, libelous accusations, and arrogant presumptions of expertise which only serve to reinforce our insistence that this complaint wrongly finds A&D "guilty as charged".As of this writing, since June 19 when we completed our emergency services dryout, not one document, lab test result, or inspection report from an independent expert - nothing (except more words)- as been presented to A&D or our legal counsel or our insurance company corroborating her blame -shifting claims. We neither caused the pre-existing structural and physical conditions, nor were we hired to cure them. What we did was to fulfill our contract with them to "...preserve, protect, a d secure from further damage..." by professionally drying in five days those parts of their home aft cted by this most recent water loss. Some of our staff and technicians as well as the owner provided some technical advice over the phone, put together an estimate for mold remediation in an area of pre-existing damage due to a different water source, and referred her to some legal and environmental hygiene specialists that might be of some help in ascertaining "responsibility" for several other areas of damage in the home. Little did we know we were next, which began about the same time her insurance company paid us directly for our emergency services, to which the husband agreed when he signed the Work Authorization. Prior to this point, we were totally unaware of the impending torrent of accusations just around the bend. In addition to the complaint registered here by her, behind the scenes we have received many phone calls -- sometimes shrill and vulgar, always demanding - in addition to voice messages and e-mails threatening lawsuits, picketing, Rafael's Six on Your Side, national news exposure, the EPA, with a commitment to "ruin your business" if we do not deal with her and meet her demands for money. If this is not extortion, it sure feels like it. There is much more to this story than can be adequately or appropriately addressed in this forum of Angie's List, so if you as a reader are in need of any of the services we provide, but are troubled by or are questioning whether you should consider A&D Hydra Clean as your service provider of choice as a result of this report and our response, please consider this: For the last four years in a row, A&D has been a recipient of the coveted Angie's List Super Service Award. We encourage you to read the comments and job assessments sent in to Angie's List by other subscribers whom we served well. We did not earn and maintain these distinctions by being unprofessional, irresponsible, or dishonest in our serving the needs of our customers. Considering the potential financial and legal quagmire for many professionals and service providers recently or even now involved in this ongoing saga, we at A&D will continue to resist being drawn into any improper or unnecessary discussion pertaining to this loss. However, if you have questions or need advice regarding your own situation, you may call for 24-hr. emergency service-255-5658 Dave Wilson-Founder & Owner

This water damage event occurred in July 2007(this is a belated acknowledgment of this good company). The day after my husband's mother died, we discovered that a water pipe in our crawlspace had been leaking and spraying water on the sub-floor for several hours. We selected A & D Hydra Clean based on positive reports from Angie's List and the knowledge demonstrated by the owner, Dave Wilson, in our initial phone conversation. Dave and his employees handled our water damage event with such professionalism and competence that they took the stress out of this potentially stressful event. They were knowledgeable, respectful, and always willing to hear and answer our questions. They kept us informed at every stage of the four day drying out process. They were so considerate of our needs and time schedule at a time when we were dealing with my mother-in-law's death and her funeral. The drying out of the sub-floor was so successful that we did not have to have it replaced. The technicians always cleaned up their work area and even straightened the vapor barrier on the crawlspace floor so that it provided better coverage. Dave gave us $100 off the final bill for our Angie's List discount.
Description of Work: Provided inspection and remediation for water damage from pipe leak in our crawlspace. Tested for moisture in sub-floor and joists. Dried out affected area by setting up a large capacity dehumidifier in a tented area for 4 days. Came by daily to monitor progress and measure the moisture level in the sub-floor. Communicated well with our insurance claim representative.

He came to my home for the estimate. He explained to me that the job would cost 1800-2000 dollars. I called another company and they gave me a better quote and decided to go with the other company. I then received a phone call from A & D and they asked me why I hadn't paid my bill! I explained that I hadn't had any work done they explained to me that I owed them 150.00 dollars for an estimate that was never communicated to me there was even a charge and not to mention the contractor only spent around 15 minutes in my home. I didn't receive the call to pay the "bill" for five weeks and I never even received a bill. They explained to me that they would put one in the mail today. I would also like to include that I never received a written estimate from this company.

Response from A & D Hydra Clean Inc
Clearly, an unintentional communication gap has occurred here somewhere between the member’s first call to A&D for help and our later phone call to her inquiring about the overdue $150 bill for the initial water damage assessment/service call. When a call comes in requesting service related to emergency water damage, our standard procedure is to quickly dispatch two certified technicians in a fully equipped truck, ready for testing and evaluation and full service. Once our technicians have completed the testing and apprised the customer of the known extent of the damage and recommended solutions, we obtain the customer’s written permission to proceed with the remediation - extraction, furniture moving, dryout, etc. If at all possible, we inform the insurance company as well as to the extent of the damage and our recommended procedures. Rarely are we asked for an “estimate” since the full extent of the water migration and subsequent dryout and possible demolition costs cannot always be foreseen, similar to exploratory surgery. Other variables such as changing weather, length of time between occurrence and discovery and service, continuing seepage, available electrical power for our dryout equipment, density or porosity of the wet structure, and so forth must be factored into any estimate. Our $150 service charge covers our actual up-front costs for fuel, vehicle, technicians’ travel time, testing equipment, on-the-job consulting time, and administrative time putting the estimate together. This charge satisfies the basic service call fee associated with the actual remediation work. While our technicians may give a “ballpark” estimate at your home, upon request, we follow through by putting the details in writing. In essence, the $150 is not the cost for an estimate but is rather, a charge for professional job-needs assessment and consultation. Having explained all this, in her situation, we do not have any specific note indicating that we informed her of the $150 service call, testing, and evaluation charge. To be ethical, we cannot rightly expect her to pay for a service she never contracted for. Therefore, we are waiving the charges for our services. (Incidentally, for the record, our technicians’ time sheets indicate they were on-site for 35 minutes 8/5/08. Also, we sent her a written estimate and invoice the next day and again on 9/24/08) With our information as a backdrop, we sincerely hope she was served well by the other company. We would appreciate another opportunity to serve her in the future, and we as a professional company stand reminded to be very thorough in understanding and communicating the mutual expectations of our customers and A&D Hydra Clean.

Went very well and their office was good with follow up.
Description of Work: I had sewer flooding in the basement on the weekend. They were out within a few hours and were able to get the water out. They also figured out where the leak came from.

One week before we were set to put our home on the market, we discovered water damage in our basement. I called A & D on a Monday morning, they came out within a hour, and began the job immediately. The job was completed by the end of the week and the basement was spotless. We had a showing on Saturday! The gentleman who came out to perform the job was incredibly personable and professional. He helped us find out where the leak was arising from and made recommendations to prevent future leaking.
Description of Work: Removal of carpet pad, drying carpet, removal of base board, carpet cleaning, replacement of new carpet pad.
